[Q] Usb OTG problems - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I today I just got a USB OTG cable from amazon. It works perfectly but after using/testing it I went to plug my phone in and no charging light came on so i tried rebooting and reflashing my rom but still not light or indicator on my screen. So after leaving it plugged in, my battery level started to increase. So what is causing this false not charging indicator on my phone? I even tested it on my friends s4 and it didn't screw up his. Please help...

[Q]

Hi ... i'm using Android with my hd2 and i installed it on Thursday and everything has been fine until this morning. My battery died last night and when I went to plug it in, the little charging light didn't go on. it turned my phone on .... and said that i need to plug in my charger. i've had it plugged in for a while now and it's not charging. if i unplug it, it turns off because its battery is done ... HELP me please!!!!!
Doesn't sound like a battery or android issue. My guess is that your charger has worn out. Try using a different micro usb cord.
I thought so too ... so this morning I had it charging at home and the same thing happened ... I came to work and plugged in a different charger into my USB..... and no difference.

Charging problems - only charging over USB

Hi there,
I have a big problem with charging my Galaxy S4. It only charges with my notebook USB Port, my AC-adapter does not work.
In the battery menu I can see that AC is connected, when I plug my adapter in. But charging does not work with my device.
Over USB I can charge slowly. This isn't a software problem, I have done some resets and firmware changes since the problem.
Maybe my phone got a little bit wet earlier. Could this be the problem? Can I fix this with changing the USB port part of the hardware?

Yes, I tried another cable but had no success
I dunno if I can ask it here, but i don't charge over usb, i mean it just "hold" the power level for me. Is that normal ?
Is your AC outlet working ?
Having issue where S4 only charges with USB and vibrates when using AC charger
I've been having some issues with my S4. I did recently get it a little wet, but it's working fine in all cases except charging. I have my phone next to my bed charging every night. I noticed it was dead one morning, but I figured I didn't connect the charger properly. The next night I noticed it was vibrating every 5 seconds or so, but the phone had turned off due to a low battery. Very strange behavior.
I realized that it would start charging, but it would stop between 1-3 minutes. The the phone would vibrate and not charge.
I've ready MANY posts from others with the same issue and someone mentioned their phone charges over USB. Seemed odd, but I tried it and voila, my phone charged perfectly. I have many samsung cables, none of which work. It's definitely not the cable. I can plug a samsung cable into my phone connected to AC and it doesn't work. I pull the USB portion out of the AC charger and plug into a computer and it immediately and consistently charges. The battery holds its charge as expected, so it doesn't appear to be a battery issue.
I've tried the developer mode options - no luck.
I've tried bending the charging prong - no luck.
I've tried blowing out the charging port with compressed air - no luck.
I recently got an update pushed to my phone (Sprint), but I don't think it was happening right after the update. Seems like a likely software issue.
I did get my phone a little wet recently, actually it was my young children throwing water at me.
I've read so many posts and nobody seems to have a good answer for this issue. Any suggestions are appreciated.

S4 i9506 charging issues, won't charge more than 20%

Hey guys, got a problem with my S4 i9506, yesterday all of the sudden its telling me that the usb cable is pluged in (message when u plug the usb), but I just surf the web without any cable attached! afterwards it started to get a little hot on the back, and later the evening, when the battery was drained, I pluged the charger and it would NOT charge! it did see the plug, the battery icon changed, but the battery were still going down! I tried another S4 battery, same thing - so its the phone. I googled the issue, cleaned the USB connections carefully, tried hard reset, tried charging from PC (the PC detects the phone, I can transfere files), so the USB port seems to be fine. the battery died comepletly, I tried do charge when its turned of, did't help, its just vibrating every second, without any display activity. I put it overnight charging, woke up this morning and it did acctually charge, but VERY slowly, and won't get higher than 20% charge.

[Q] Charging is only possible through USB

Hi
I have the Galaxy S5 for about 1 month now and I like it very much. But two days before, I noticed issues with charging the phone through the AC Adapter (Samsung original USB Charger) - the phone did not charge during the night. So the phone stopped charging with the wall charger. I tried out many other USB chargers and also USB 3.0 cable. Without success!
It charges just fine when it's plugged into my laptop or desktop PC.
When the phone is turned on and I plug the charger in, nothing happens. The battery condition in android is still "discharging". But when the phones is turned off and plugged into the wall charger, it vibrates in intervals and the screen stays blank (the little battery animation doesn't appear). Removing the battery and replacing it does not help. I tried almost everything...
Has anybody an idea? Otherwise it seems to be a hardware problem. Same issue also here: Androidforums
I'm on OMEGA 5 ROM now with OMEGA Kernel. I cannot believe that the OMEGA Kernel has something to do with this issue.
Thanks for any help

It seems that it was a hardware problem, probably because of some water inside the USB connector. After some days I blow out the socket with a spray duster and since this time, the issue never happened again. :good:
I think, I will never test the water resistance again...
Did water enter the usb port and was the flap closed or not?

The flap was closed of course. I don't know if water has entered into the socket, but I think not.
One day after my post, the issue happened again. Now, I have updated to OMEGA 5.1 and flashed the Samsung stock kernel instead of the Omega Kernel. Now, the issue never occured again.
I cannot believe that this is because of the kernel, because the issue was also when the phone was turned off.
Now for 1 week, I never encountered the problem again

USB Charging issues / Computer does not recognize while on

So this issue happened out of no where after my phone died to zero last night. I tried charging it back up but all I could get out of it was the grey charging battery but it would only stay on for 1-2 seconds shut down and reboot. Let it charging for an hour and got to about 1-2% and it would die as soon as it booted up. Factory restored to OA6 and still see the same issue. This is also the odd thing... I was able to connect it to my computer and use Oden to do the restore! After lots of troubleshooting, trying 4 chargers, I realized wireless charging still works fine. Charged it up 100% over night and wireless charging is still working fine and phone is working fine. Still cannot get USB to be recognized while on either by computer or from USB charger. With a full battery, phone off, and USB plugged in phone still flashes the grey battery icon and reboots constantly.
Only thing I can think of is I had it in my pocket after spin class for a little and moisture might have gotten in the port?
Any ideas what happened here?
Update: I ended up just buying the Nexus 6P since I'm about due for a new phone anyways.
Well just figured I would pass this along. Was bored before and looked at diagrams to fix the USB board and saw this little port in the back you can access really easy. Decided to open that up and press the connection down a little tighter (the USB board is separate from the main board). USB didn't work before doing this, then pressed it tighter plugged USB in again and it worked.
