I have a s4 on unlimited data and want to give the s4 to my wife and get the note 3. I qualify to get the note 3 on Verizon edge. Question is can I swap the phones over similar to what most people do when opening just a normal 2nd line or its not possible because the 25$ for edge is linked to the note 3?
Yes it is possible. All you have to do is swap SIM.

If my wife wanted to upgrade the note 3 would have to be turned back in correct?
I've never turned in a phone at upgrade...

I thought I read somewhere for Verizon edge you have to turn the phone back in.

Only if the phone isn't paid off. You can upgrade your phone after 6 months and you would have to turn the other phone back in.
Why would you want to go with the EDGE program?
I'm not going with it I'm keeping my unlimited plan. I was starting Verizon edge for my wife because it seems like it's a better deal than going with a traditional contract.
Why do you need to keep a phone that's out of date? These devices are getting replaced by faster counterparts every 3-5 months as it is, granted nothing like the note 3 w/ s-pen, but still internal guts wise.
Its only $45-60(depending on conditions, etc) more at the end of 6 months then buying it on a subsidized rate, and I get the latest piece of tech for only tax again....and i'm not in contract anymore, month per month.
So I decided to give a shot,
I lost my unlimited, oh well. My data-whore days are over. I did however 'sweet-talk/complain' my way into a 8gb for the price of 2gb, instead of the 6gb they were going to offer me.
So my bill going from my old unlimited plan , to this new w/ 8gb, only went up $30( ($125.53 p/m) after taxes, no-contract, great LTE coverage, and new toy ever 5-7 months... and only having to pay $40 at the Verizon store and walking out with a new Note 3.
I'm not sure what you're trying to explain. I'm adding Verizon edge as a second line and swapping sim cards with the note 3. They will have to trick me or just completely take away my unlimited before I just gave it up.

I was basically just explain the perks in me IMO.
In your case, you can swap the sims (should be able to), but the Note 3 will never be yours unless you pay outright for it all $700 of it. Even if you are putting your sim into the note 3 from the s4, the contract is written out for the device you get on the upgrade.
Edge is a 0% interest loan basically on the phone, and you can upgrade to a newer phone once you hit $350 paid or 6 months, which ever is first.

I see. So you're adding a second line? Or is the second line your wife's line and its available for the Edge upgrade?
Double post.
I was under the impression you pay the 25$ a month and once you pay the phone off its yours to upgrade or trade. I think you're saying that if I want to upgrade before I pay the phone off I would have the swap the Sims back around since the contract is for the note 3?
Yep I'm adding a second line for my wife. She likes my s4 and I want the note 3.

Just get the Note 3 for your wife and swap SIMs. Don't go with Edge. The Edge program is only available for lines that have upgrades available so you wouldn't be able to put it on your wife's line. If you do the Edge upgrade on your line, you will lose your unlimited data. So you might as well start a new contract with your wife's line and pay subsidized price of the Note 3. You're gonna be locked in for two years anyway for the new line.
I'm a available for a upgrade but I will never use it when I talked to the Verizon rep he said I could start a new line with edge and it will not affect my plan what so ever

As the title says Galaxy Note cost me $300 with 2yrs of AT&T contract, HOW? I upgraded my line for IPHONE 4S 16GB for $200, Sold it on Craigslist for $650 and add $100 more on top of $650 and bought GNOTE from Handtec.co.uk for $750. I think i got a good deal and most of Super phones that comes out these days cost $200-300 on a contract anyways. My Gnote is in transit and i am gonna receive it tomo via Fedex can't wait..... THANKs To HANDTEC for a great price and fast shipping.
I just bought a 4s and am doing the same thing but I'm waiting on the white Note to be released.

galaxy s2
Me too just did the same thing wit the galaxy s2 but I only got $450 for it.
I do the same but with two galaxy s II
Was going to do the same thing but in the end, straight talk at $45 a month unlimited comes out cheaper over the 2 year run (saving $40 a month every single month), if I get booted for too much data, than I will do this
Galaxy note from India
Will the Galaxy note from India work for ATT?
specs are as follows:
Band GSM&EDGE Band 850/900/1,800/1,900
3G Band 850/900/1,900/2,100
Network&Data GPRS 850/900/1,800/1,900
EDGE 850/900/1,800/1,900
3G HSPA+ 21Mbps
Regional Availability Global
Any information will be highly helpful.
thanks
Yes the galaxy Note from India will work with AT&T.
At&T uses band 850 and 1900 for 3G network.
I thought the Note may come out on ATT officially before end of the year with LTE support. Why not just wait another 1-2 months and see what happens.

I highly, highly doubt it. But if it does, I can always sell my current one and use the money to buy the AT&T version. Unless AT&T's version is crappier, in which case I'll simply be glad I enjoyed my Note for all of that time before AT&T got around to releasing one, and also appreciate how much better my international version is.
For people waiting to "cash in" their 24 month upgrade credit, the smart way to do it is to buy the most valuable for resale phone at the time (unfortunately usually an iphone) and sell it, saving the money for the phone they actually want. No point in waiting for the phone you actually want to be released unless you know it's coming soon and the resale value's high enough that with ebay/paypal fees included it wouldn't make more sense to go the other iroute.
Thoughts?

I'm on AT&T myself and might just wait and see what happens. If it doesn't come to AT&T, I could still always choose the UK version...and maybe the price would even come down a bit.
I'm using the Dell Streak right now. I love it, so I really don't mind waiting a bit.
mha1021 or anyone here, Can someone please, please tell me how to get a an iphone 4s with a 2 year contract to get the discount but instead activate a galaxy note instead? Perhaps i missed the details but I live in Long Island NY and at&t is not selling the iphone 4s without activating it. Am i supposed to buy it, activate the iphone and then use the sim card with the note? Is the iphone then locked or imei not cleared and not sell-able? My goal is to get a 2 year contract using the galaxy note, but purchase the iphone on the 2 year contract at $200 and then sell it to offset the cost of the note.

It doesn't hurt anything to activate the sim card in the iphone then take it out and use it in the Note. You may have to put it in a dumbphone before the Note if you want to call in and have them switch you to the $15 unlimited dumbphone data, or you may be able to just call them, give them the Note's IMEI, and tell them it's a dumbphone (insert brand/name of dumbphone here.)
But if you want the iphone unopened/unactivated (maybe it sells for more? I don't know), you can purchase it through apple in a store or on their website, using your upgrade for the $200 price, then when it gets to the apple store tell them not to open or activate it.
Thank you Max, I do not have an upgrade as I am not an at&t customer. I am planning of going under my gf's family plan so I was looking to get a new 2 year contract under that plan. (Does that matter?) I am OK with paying all of the family plan rates and am not looking to get unlimited via other means. My main problem is I was lead to believe via many posts (not here) that getting an iphone 4s with the 2 year discount was easy and I could then sell it. at&t will not sell an iphone 4s here in LI without activating it. So, is activation what I have to do or are there other options where I could get a boxed iphone 4s (legally) and activate my note instead? However, this is another important question... If I activate a brand new iphone 4s, what do I have to do to make this phone sell-able? at&t said that I had to keep the iphone for 6 months. How do they know? Is the imei locked? Do I have to unlock it via other means or can someone just add this phone to their plan? I wish at&t was more forthcoming. I do not see why there is a problem here since I am buying the 2 year contract in the first place.

Only problem is no insurance through ATT if you have an accident. You can buy a year online for $60 from a 3rd party though.
I have seen so many S3 owners saying they used their upgrade to get this phone, but this phone wasn't even released until 7/10/12, which was only 21 months ago, so how are so many getting to upgrade early?
I don't know about anyone else, but I have unlimited data and pay full retail. Anyone in that situation can buy a phone whenever they want.
Have you tried calling and asking for an early updgrade, I am guessing if you call once or twice, you will have success if you lock in. Obviously, people have additional lines, etc., and use work arounds to get upgrades.

I looked at that, but it seems awfully expensive in the end. What is the monthly cost on the S5 with Edge? Do they keep the phone even if you do pay enough to cover the full price after 2 years?

If you wait every 2 years it probably wouldn't be worth it, but if you upgrade every year it's not really that bad. It's about 25 bucks a month extra, so over the course of the year, it would cost $300. Considering you probably pay around $250 for a new phone when it is time to upgrade, your really only paying $50 more a month to be able to upgrade every year. You cannot keep your phone for early edge. But after that, I'm not sure.
I did the edge program. I got 10gb of data shared with my wife. They give you am extra $25 off the cost of edge. So I am only paying 22¢ a month for each phone.
I didn't want to do the edge previously, they changed the pricing and now it cost us almost the same amount we were paying with our separate accounts.

Lol. 2 ways. You pay a prorated amount so if you have 3 months left on your contact you will only pay like 11 dollars per outstanding month. $33 dollars isn't a deterrent for most.
Also, a large portion of phone buyers (myself included) pay non contract prices for their phones.

I came from the s3, but I came to the s3 from the galaxy nexus. Got my nexus on upgrade, s3 i got from a friend for 100 bucks after they cracked their screen and use their dad's upgrade to replace it. I spent 18 bucks and put new glass on.

I upgraded from my S3. I paid full price
Came from the S3, didn't pay early upgrade fees or pay full price and kept my unlimited data plan! I call that a Win Win situation!
On top of that I bought my wife a S3 right after the S4 came out and we both upgraded to the S5!
We have 5 lines on our family plan and we use the other 3 (which aren't data lines and have non-contracted phones). We upgrade the other lines when we want to get a new phone. Since we plan on having a cell phone no matter what and Verizon has the best coverage in our area we don't mind the 2 year contracts.
So we are working on getting all of our personal items off the S3's right now so that we can sell them and cover that cost of the S5's. (BTW, I forgot to mention, we bought 1 S5 and got 1 for free through Verizons special they were running, so other than being locked into a 2 year contract we will basically get them for free!).
Win Win here as well. I used the upgrade from another line on my family plan and I did it through costco so it was only $100 bucks. I was able to keep unlimited too

Anyone else doing this? I have unlimited on one line and have pre ordered a note. I plan on transferring an eligible upgrade from an existing dumb phone line to a 2gb smartphone line to get the note at the upgrade price.
last time I went to best buy, they couldn't do this but that was awhile ago. Never had a problem with costco to do the upgrade swap. I recently did it an upgrade swap with my second line to keep my unlimited data. BTW, costco only charges tax on the sales price on the phone and not tax on the retail price of the phone which is nice.

You can switch phones as often as you want between lines. However, be careful. I'm currently in quite the argument with Verizon supervisors about some miscommunication between myself and their reps.
I did this for my wife last month to get her the iPhone 6. Well the short version is when I went to put the "dumb phone" back on a basic 10$ add a line (like two different reps ASSURED me I could. And have done it twice in the past) I am now being told the new contracts say you must keep the 2gb 29.99 data plan through the length of the contract, regardless of what phone is on that line.
This is a new practice for them, and total BS because I've had this line for a longggg time. It's been a gigantic hassle while I wait for them to pull the phone calls, etc.

I can use this method online thru vzw.com, if I transfer the upgrade from the dumbphone line (no data) to the 2gb smartphone line it doesn't prompt me to add data to the dumbphone line, it just verifies the 2gb line has data which is obv does. I understand what you're saying though, I saw some update to Verizon's policy at the end of August this year that does state if you add data to a line it must keep data for the life of the contract. Obviously if you were told by 2 reps they could remove it then they should honor it.
If nothing else I plan on doing this, just move the upgrade to the 2gb line. And activate the note 4 on the 2gb line. I'll then go to a Verizon corporate store and have them do a device swap between the 2gb line and the unlimited line device.

I was considering using Costco but the $200 gift card at best buy is such a good deal. I have an old droid x2 which isn't worth $10 @ Verizon or Costco (cannot qualify for the rebate thru Samsung) but is worth $15 at best buy....
I was going to use a phone line with data that is due but the upgrade is available. Best Buy will apply the offer to that line and then switch my sim card for my line into the N4. I say WAS, since without root I will not bother
with the N4. Need card writes for non stock apps. Too many emulator and media apps the access my 128gb card. No card writes means no Note 4 and probably six months to wait for Lollipop that MIGHT have external writes enabled for non stock apps.
With the BB method you MUST have them ship the phone and you activate it with your current UDP sim card.

What conditions? BB will activate it on the line (if data on it already) and then do the switch in store. Fairly common practice by staff at my local store.

I think the only way it works is if you have a device already with a sim card that fits. Not for sure though, so BB could tell you.
BB told me I can't just take the sim card from my G3, and swap it into the Note 4 when I buy it outright. They have to activate a new sim card that comes with it but they told me it does NOT effect my unlimited data at all.

So does anyone have anymore information on this? My understanding is on November 15 the price will go up from 29.99 a month to 49.99 for anyone not on contract with an unlimited data plan.

If you are on contract then it does not apply to you. If you are on a month to month basis then it will apply to you. I am on contract based a loophole and still have unlimited data.

still cheaper for me to stay on this plan and pay $20 more than to goto someone else for tiered data bs.

Still in the long run, it ends up being cheaper if you're a heavy user. It's just b.s. that they tried to sneak it pass everyone. I highly doubt that less than 1% is harming the network. It's more of a revenue generator for them.
I have a TDP line on my account. A couple switches and I upgraded to a new phone, subsidized, kept UDP, and am now locked under contract until 10/30/17 for another 2 years of $30/month

Best Buy Method: Buy Phone EDIT: Online in store[/Srike]. The phone will come with SIM in it. Destroy that SIM and put in your old one. I can't believe this still works, but people are reporting success.
4ever Method (AKA Alternate Upgrade): You need at least one UDP and one TDP line. Transfer Upgrade from UDP to TDP. Activate phone on TDP Line. Remove the line from the plan, reactivate TDP's normal phone. You now have a free-floating Verizon phone. You can sell it (without the SIM), or use it on the UDP line. Either way, the UDP line gets the contract.
My contract date is now 10/30/2017 and I bought a new, subsidized phone.
Thanks droidguy22 for correcting me. I'm correcting my post in case anyone reads just mine, but not droidguy's correction below!

Correcting Best Buy method: Buy phone online and ship it to your address and when you get the phone - do not power it, open the sim slot and destroy the sim which came with the phone and put your old sim in the new phone. I did this last week and everything worked fine.
Please let me know if this is correct for transferring upgrade to lock contract. 1. I am on UDP and my wife is on TDP, I transfer my upgrade to my wife and she gets a LG G4. 2. My wife continues to use her iPhone 6+ and I use my sim in the LG G4. Is that too blatant that the phone was for me? 3. That locks me into a contract for 2 years and I continue to pay 29.99. Is it best to do this online? When is the cut off for a move like this, I have heard Nov 15 is the day of effect. Thanks!

You just need to activate the phone on her line after you get it. Once you activate it, put the iPhone back on (you will need the SIM number handy for the iPhone), and your phone and the G4 is free to move lines.
Is it too late to get myself lock in a year contract to keep my unlimited price at 29.99?

I am going to get another phone tomorrow to get me locked into a 2 year contract. When I spoke to Verizon I was told that Nov. 15 is the date it takes effect. I was also told that I will inherit my wife's upgrade date which is 1.5 years, she just got her iphone 6 months ago. Now the big question. What phone do I buy to be able to root and it be a semi new release. I was thinking the G4, now I am reading that the Moto X Pure has an unlockable bootloader. What else is on Big Red's lineup that is open for clean rooting?
Upgrade question
So if I'm taking an upgrade to extend my contract but want to stick with my Note 4 Dev after the activation, do all the VZW phones use the same size SIM?

No they dont. All the new iphones and note 5 and galaxy s6 use the nano sims. The note 4 takes the Micro Sim.
My girlfriends dad works at an AT&T call center and told me they started doing a BOGO deal Saturday 2/27.
I already did a pre-order at Best Buy…went back Sunday 2/28 and cancelled my order and re-placed with a BOGO. Both phones have to be on AT&T Next. The BOGO covers around $23/month for the 2nd phone and you can get either model for the 2nd phone. Best Buy also told me I’d get the free Gear VR and Micro SD card for both phones…don’t think there’s a better deal out there.
Can't find anything mentioned via google or on ATT site.

I didn't either but I definitely got the BOGO deal at BestBuy and talked to AT&T support on the phone who confirmed the BOGO deal availability. Not sure why they aren't advertising it everywhere.
Still have to pay the first 2-3 months for both phones on AT&T Next but AT&T credits the 2-3 months of payments back for the 2nd BOGO phone and then cover $23-ish per month going forward. You also have to pay the tax upfront for both phones not just 1.
Other mentions of the BOGO deal here. Wonder if you can get two $100 Target gift cards with a BOGO. That would be way better than BestBuy considering MicroSD cards are only $30 each.
I'm reading the fineprint and it doesn't seem the S7 is part of this deal...

Its the iphone that is BOGO
The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge were just added to the BOGO promotion a few days ago.

I've searched the AT&T website a few times and can't ever find the S7 BOGO details even though I was able to order it.
From your experience have you seen AT&T not show promos like this? I'm amazed AT&T isn't running commercials about this to try and get customers to switch.
Can someone explain this to me, without me having to call AT&T. Was planing on getting the S7 anyway but might as well maybe do this. I know I will have to pay for taxes for both and I think the first 3 months. But It says I have to add a new line..Does that make it cost more monthly? I would like to just give my wife the other S7.
Thanks

As far as I know you have to add a new line. I added a line to my mobile share plan and ported my girlfriend from Verizon.
If you and your wife already have a shared plan and one of you is on month-to-month billing (No 2 year plan or AT&T Next still lingering), maybe you can have AT&T cancel that line and re-add a "new" line with the same phone number so you can get the BOGO. That's the best I got for "cheating" the system lol.
I just switched from vzw to at&t and got the bogo deal on 2 s7s and 2 edges with the unlimited plan for uverse subscribers. Only needed 3,myself, my wife and son, but with the 4th line free and 2 free phones I now get to be the douche who carries 2 phones around because why not, it was free. Wife gets an edge and son gets the s7 and I can play with both with unlimited data. Eat that Verizon!
I just spoke with at&t as I have a pre-order for s7 Edge arriving today for a new line I added. She said there was a BOGO offer between 2/23 and 2/28 (I believe) and my order was on the 26th, so I was eligible for it. However, it's too late now to take advantage of it. Even if I returned the device, there isnt a current BOGO offer on S7/S7E.
Let me know if anyone has different information, but that's what I was just told.

It must have gone past the 28th. I went to Best Buy on the 27th about an hour before they closed and asked them about the deal. They just got the email 15 minutes before I came. They were stunned I knew about it.
I did this today so it is still working, went to best buy and walked out with 2 S7's and VR headsets and everything. The actual AT&T rep was there and confirmed that the bogo worked.
I don't think this was answered:
Do you have to add a new line? My wife and I are already on AT&T, and last time we tried to open new line with old number it turned into a giant clusterbomb.
Would it work if I ported my number to Google Voice earlier in the day? That way AT&T would presumably cancel my existing line, and then I can open a new line for the free phone? Can this be avoided???

You have to add a new line, yes. if you had a line not under contract you could do a work around by porting it if you want to keep the number but I don't think google voice would work... Maybe a cheap prepaid though like tracfone?
To anyone who hasn't found anything on the BOGO deal, it's official now.

Just to make sure I understand, if I go and buy a Tracfone sim-card tonight and port my AT&T number to it, then when I go to buy my S7's on Friday I can just port the number right back and there won't be any issues and it will count as a new line?
Thanks for this thread everyone. Just called AT&T after I got my pre-order from Best Buy & got another Galaxy S7 Edge. Had to open another line but I'm thinking about doing the same thing as porting the number out then back in. Thanks
