SetVsel And Cyanogenmod 7 RC0

hello everyone
i have a quick question
is it true i shouldn't use setvsel with CM7?because i just read that in the FAQ thread for CM7 here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1065798
and i need setvsel because i use it to undervolting and also i don't to overclock my cpu to 1Ghz since 800mhz can handle all the games i play and im getting 1900-2100 score in quadrant on stock cpu speed
and if i can't use it or shouldn't what program should i use ??since cpu settings in cm settings doesn't include undervolting
(although i've been use it on CM7 rom for 3 days now and i didn't have any trouble)

Hi there,
CM7 RC0 has the CPU clock speeds & Vsel in the bootmenu where you can overclock, undervolt, change the governor etc.
If you reboot your phone & go into the bootmenu when the blue led comes on then you can access the overclock menu.

From what I've read in the relevant threads about CM7 many people are saying not use it.
I used it in froyo but since flashing CM7 RC0 I only use the bootmenu for CPU settings.

I used the same settings that peetr_ used in the post I've linked to above. It uses the smartass governor.
It appears that there's different settings depending upon which governor is selected:
eg; for the smartass governor then in the overclock settings list the settings that start with _smt are relevant,
interactive governor _int,
ondemand governor _ond, etc.
Think that's how it works

Not sure yet as only changed the settings last night.
Also today I have changed the screen brightness levels so will see how it goes.

I left the bootmenu cpu frequencies as to what they were but undervolted them slightly.
300/22, 600/34, 1000/54 - I tried many settings using setvsel when running froyo so I know these work fine for me.
As for the other settings I just used those that peetr_ posted for the smartass governor & it seems to run nicely. Haven't had any issues yet

btw...when i used the values in the post you gave me the phone was running without any issues but if you open setvsel and looked at the cpu it keeps changing from 300 to 1000 even if you are not doing anything but if you used the ondemand scale governor you will notice that if you are not doing anything the value stays 300mhz so im not sure that smartass is a good governor after all...or maybe its just me
anyways i think i will keep the settings like this:

My cpu sometimes jumped from 300-1000 when I used setvsel on froyo.
Temperature wise it seems to be running similar if not slightly cooler than when on froyo. Now the hottest I have seen battery temp is 35C but it is mostly much cooler than that.

hmm..mine reached 39c on very heavy use...normaly its around 30c
and about the youtube app..no it wasn't included and i downloaded the app in the market but it crashes on most videos

btw im getting 2000-2500 in quadrant...how come?i think that is too good to be true

i don't know...really..i can't seem to relate what are the values for with the available governors
my only problem with smartass governor that even if im not using the cpu the values keep changing between 300mhz-1000ghz but when im using on demand if im not doing anything with the phone the cpu stays at 300mhz but when i start using the phone(moving the screen up and down for example)the values changes to 1000ghz and when i stop the values goes back to 300mhz that's why im using on demand...but again it might be just my cpu
looks like it requires to dig more in the differences between each governor
anyway i read in the latest post in CM7 DEV thread that some people is actually using setvsel so i opened my boot menu,and went to overclock,selected set default,reboted,and installed setvsel and applied these values:
20/300
33/600
47/800
up_therhold:75
oh and btw...how's your battery life ?

Yes I've got CM7 RC0 & using the bootmenu overclock.
There's many values in the menu as it depends upon which governor you have set it to so only those values relevant to that governor will be used.
For instance on Smartass governor - the values starting with _smt will apply

Proper way to Overclock Nook Miui?

Can someone help me with the proper way to overclock the miui rom? I have dalingrins latest kernal, SETCPU, and nook tweaks all installed.
I have my steps set in nook tweaks and it set to set on boot. Also have setcpu set to ondemand gov. Should setcpu be also set on boot?
What I want is 375 min, 1100 max, and ondemand governor. What's the proper way to achieve this? Is setCPU even necessary?

This depends on MIUI's build.
If it's depending on the latest builds with dalgirins kernal and it recogonizes the 1100 and 1200 steps in it's settings, then you can set ondemand and 1100 and set on boot.
If it's not based on the integrated kernal, which you can tell the settings will only go to 925, then you need to install dalgrins kernal and use setcpu, allow root. Set it on boot. Max the setting at 1100, and set the governor on demand. profile it as you like.

WIth Dalgrin's mod... download 1.4.3 nook tweaks.. that is all you need period.
you can test what the highest voltage you can get to without UV. So try 1300 in Nook tweaks and leave the voltage alone. (DO NOT SET ON BOOT) until you have run through nenamarks back to back multiple times and quadrants back to back multiple times without random reboots or freezes.
In CM Mod Settings, Change the governer to conservative, that is your best bet to oc as it is built for solid state memory, such as memory cards (which is all cell phones.)
That is all you need... the rest is just trial and error because all chips are different period.
Then when everything is kewl, then start undervolting.... from the bottom clock speeds and up

In my experience on phones, setcpu does drain battery a little more than other apps.....

SetCPU is to set the actual OC and governor of the processor. Nook Tweaks simply changes the steppings that setCPU sees and allows for UV/OV.

CPU governor or SetCPU or both questions

I currently have UD 1.1b2 with sibere kernel v13 installed.
Now I think, it clocks not to 1200 but to 1000, due to a report of Quadrant System information.
Do I have to edit a file (which one) on my device so CPU governor is clocking to 1200 or is installation of SetCPU required?
Somewhere I read, these two interfere with each other.

Posted the same in the other Thread:
I installed Stab. Test but it tells me with the root testing (name forgotten) that only 1000 MHz max are tested.
I have an overclocking kernel which should go to 1200.
How can I test 1200 with this app?

The governor is responsible for the adjusting of the clock while Android is running.
SetCPU allows for an easier switching between installed governors and to set other Min-Max Frequencies.
They both do a complete different job.
Please check with either SetCpu or Overclock Widget that the min-max values are 300-1200 and then you should be good.
And keep in mind, with any other governor then performance you will prob. never see 1200 on any widget.
Setcpu has an info page where you can see (time in state ) what freqs are used.

I just let Uruk handle the CPU governor. I also use the following...

That is the problem.
I set SetCPU to 300 - 1200.
Shortly after doing that, it switches automatically to 800 or 300 - 1000.
No more 1200 anymore on SetCPU main Screen.

I like to minimize the number of apps not written by me doing stuff behind the scenes, and so I just use a startup script to set the CPU settings. This also fixes a problem with video player apps on the Gen8 archos automatically fixing the CPU rate at 800 MHz (which is sometimes not enough for Netflix and sometimes too much for other things), though it may be that the current version of SetCPU also fixes this (I reported the issue to the SetCPU author).

[Q] System Tuner Settings

You can search all you want and still come up short, I'm trying to use system tuner to change the cpu and gpu settings and I cant find any help on how to use this app. Im running the latest Kaos Droid rom for 4.1.2, the latest Motley kernel and twrp, props to all developers:good:. Im looking for what the optimal settings are and how to use system tuner to change them. Can someone tell me or show me the right thread that can help? Im not sure what the min/max cpu settings should be and I cant seem to find where to change the gpu settings. We are all noobs at some point. I just want to beef my nexus up a little, nothing crazy.

I wouldn't use system tuner for this because it doesn't have the ability to change the GPU speed. I'd recommend TricksterMOD which is available here for free. Depending on your kernel (not sure if motley's kernel has configurable GPU now, it didn't when I used it) you can change different settings. It is personally up to you how you want to configure your device and change things depending on how it runs. Anyway, I'll give you an idea of my settings that I have changed.
CPU - Governor is Interactive (my kernels default but another alternative would be ondemand) running @ 102mhz min - 1600mhz max
IO - Governor is deadline (again default but imo the only one you should use) with cache at 1024.
GPU - 600mhz
VOLTAGES - My kernels defaults.
Make sure that you set the settings to be applied at boot (I use a delay of 1 because it didn't seem to apply without it) and also make sure your kernel has the powerHAL fix included, or else (in the case of trinity kernel) you will need to download this file (this is for Android 4.2.x). This will allow your CPU overclock to stick and not be reset to stock.
Hopefully this helps! But again, just play around with your frequency's and maybe look into voltage tweaking to get your personal balance between performance and power consumption. And if you are going for performance, I'd look at turning off fsync and using the ext4 mount script to boost your I/O dramatically (this will result in things such as faster app installs)

Phone slow after root

I rooted and am running tek s ROM. The phone has been super laggy and slow since I flashed that ROM. Any advice.

Have you switched the governor to interactive or on-demand? That's the most important piece. The below link has a bunch of tips (universal to qualcomm/US S7 and S7e) to improve performance.

Bug #1: Phone is laggy after rooting the phone/Battery is down the tank.
Fix: The phone is (partially) lagging because the ENG bootloader automatically sets the CPU governor to "Performance." While this is supposed to lock the CPU frequency at the maximum values, it does cause a lot of heat and possibly throttling. Additionally, the max core clocks are set to 1.593Ghz instead of their actual maximums. Not every CPU Tuner will allow you to set the big cores separately, so look around for one that does if you don't want to use Kernel Toolkit.
First, use Flashify to flash one of two zips provided by psouza4 on our sister Verizon Galaxy S7 (Edge) threads.
1. Kernel fixes & tweaks V15
2. Kernel fixes, tweaks, & Debloater
You need only flash one of these two zips. One additionally debloats the system, one does not. Choose whichever suits your needs.
What the zips do:

Next, install a CPU Tuner utility like Kernel Toolkit, then change the governor from "Performance" to "Interactive." Also change the max CPU frequency of the little cores to 1.593Ghz and the big cores to 2.150Ghz while you're at it. Leave the cores at their default minimum frequency. This will go a long way to improving the speed of the phone. Also make sure you that have the new settings to apply on boot. Every kernel manager should have this option somewhere.
Note: Although the max frequency in the settings screen will drop to some number, as long as you can see the CPU ramp up to the new settings in the information screen, then everything is fine. You can test the max frequency by turning the screen off and then back on.
Then, install sEFix and set entropy to "Ultra."
Lastly, install L Speed and:
