I just moved to a new state, where my current phone service BLOWS (Sprint).
I want the G2 but I want to try both TMO & ATT to figure out who's service is best for me.
From what I understand the TMO G2 is missing the 850 LTE band and I have no idea if I need it.
"AT&T version (D800) does not support WCDMA 1700 / T-Mobile version (D801) does not support LTE 850"
http://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p=4216
What I gather from this wiki I should be ok... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AT&T_Mobility
So, If I get the LG G2 d801 and get it unlocked will I be able to hop networks without issue?
Tmobile d801 on ATT
Hey,
Kinda new on the forums in terms of posting but have been reading for a while.
I talked to an ATT rep today about using the unlocked tmobile d801 on att, here is his response:
"ok here is how it works, if the phone is LTE capable you can get the LTE speed but not right at first, the problem is that our system does not recognize other carriers phones, so it is difficult to get it assigned on the right speed for the device, usually we get on a data connection that does work then file a ticket to have the data speed manually altered to the right connection for the phone, because the system cant do it on its own this usually takes a week or so to get set up properly but once that is done you have the LTE"
He then looked up the specs for the tmobile d801 lg g2 and said that it does get the correct bands.

Works on my TMO G2 and I get LTE. (Straight Talk AT&T)

I'm *very* interested in the Optimus 7 -- and I never thought I'd say that about an LG phone!
Anyhow, one deal breaker for me would be 3G network access with T-Mobile. Anyone know if the Optimus 7 can do 3G on T-Mo, or is it only Edge network speed? I see that the Optimus 7 covers several frequencies, but I'm seeing conflicting info as to what is the 3G band for T-Mo. I've seen 1700mhz and 2100mhz listed for T-Mo's 3G. The Optimus 7 appears to cover the 2100mhz range, but not 1700mhz.
So... does anyone know if it'll work? Anyone have first-hand knowledge?!
Thanks,
Yip
This is a great question. Unfortunately, I have no concrete answer for it. However, I came across a very interesting piece of information in the MFG software on the LG Optimus 7 I have ( from Telus ). There does not seem to be any 1700 band support, but there is an unexpected 900 band support for 3G. ( Optimus 7 owners should check the Call UI Display in the MFG menu, or go to the Engineer Menu and check modem settings->band settings ). I guess since this device is being launched in Europe, LG used the same quad-band GSM/quad-band 3G modem in the Optimus 7, but the 900 band is disabled by default in Canada.
Unfortunately, LG Optimus 7 does not support AWS, hence it will not support 3G neither on T-Mobile USA nor Wind Mobile or Mobilicity (it will fall back to GSM/EDGE modes on T-Mobile and will always be in Wind Away zone roaming through Rogers if you were to use Wind Mobile SIM card).
I have the opposite question - do you know if T-Mobiles HTC HD7 will work on HSPA+ networks like AT&T, Telus or Rogers? Or it only has AWS 3G?
I know that T-Mobile is not a "top Tier" carrier, but they actually have decent coverage where I use my phone and the $30 plan suits my needs at a LOW price. Anyway, my options for which phone to buy look like this:
AT&T version/D800: Looks like I would get 21Mbit/s instead of 42Mbit/s on 3G (according to Wikipedia frequency chart). T-Mobil rep said I would not get LTE. However, the wiki page for LG G2 show the phones having identical LTE frequencies (other than 850 MHz), so I'm not sure. Is the rep right, no LTE?
Verizon version/VZ980: Missing the UTMS 1700 MHz band, so limited to 21Mbit/s like the AT&T D800. It has NONE of the LTE frequencies that the T-Mobile version has, no LTE. It has only one of the LTE frequencies, 1700(band 4).
T-Mobile version/D801: Obviously will work perfectly, but not much development at all.
The only reason I'm not just buying the T-Mobile version is the lack of development. Maybe I should just live with that and hope that developers at least release more D801 mods so that I can mod the stock ROM....people seem to like the stock ROM a bit. Opinions?
I just bought an AT&T LG G2 plan on unlocking it for Tmobile/metropcs (they merged in my area) Will I be able to get full connections to everything once I unlock the phone for Tmobile network? I'd hate to realize I wont get any data or get very slow data after spending so much money.
Since MetroPCS uses Tmobiles system in my area but also still use their systems can I choose if I want to use a metropcs or a tmobile sim card? Or are they both on GSM towers and so there would be no difference? 4G for MetroPCS is available in my area but so is Tmobile HSPA+ which is better?
Not if you don't have the 1700 AWS band...

not sure what you're saying. 4G is 2100. but other than that if i leave 4G area i wont have any reception at all?
4G uses different bandwidths. Not all carries use the same... Still the same old "GSM/CDMA" scenario, just a bit more relaxed.
Just bought an AT&T Lg G2 and unlocked it for Tmobile/Metropcs use and after setting APN settings I still have no connection at all. Im unable to send a single text, get online or anything. Im sure im doing something simple wrong. Tmobile has 4G in my area so i should get great speeds. Anyone got any ideas?
I've entered APN for both 4G and non 4G
Did you reboot? Probably did but it already, right?
yup I've rebooted multiple times. Went into Networks searched networks it found AT&T Tmobile and MetroPCS and a few others. i've tried AT&T tmobile and Tmobile LTE and Metro PCs...all with no luck

I'm afraid that the AT&T D800 does not support AWS/UMTS Bands, which are T-Mobile's main frequencies. I've just pulled this list from Wikipedia:
AT&T - D800
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 850/1900/2100
LTE 1900(2)/1700(4)/850(5)/700(17)
T-Mobile - D801
GSM 850/900/1800/1900
UMTS 850/1700/1900/2100
LTE 1900(2)/1700(4)/700(17)
Namely, you are missing UMTS band 1700 which manages about 50% of T-Mobile customers' HSPA+ connection. That being said, the fact that you cannot connect to T-Mobile's LTE band 1700 is weird. Also, UMTS band 1900 should also work.
Perhaps you're in an area with ONLY UMTS 1700 which would not work with the AT&T LG G2. Do you know if there's LTE coverage in your area?

Yes I am in DFW area which is one of the largest LTE areas Tmobile has. I'm unable to get a connection at all. It says phone is for "emergencies only" I cant make calls, text, or use web.
Sounds like the phone is not SIM unlocked. Need to verify it is SIM unlocked. Also where did you buy it. If the phone was bought from a person it could have been reported stolen or lost and blocked from T-Mobile.

I bought it off Swappa. Ill try the unlock code again but it said it was unlocked. it doesnt come up with any error when i put the new sim card in anymore.
You're likely in an area that does not have HSPA 1900 coverage; and since you're AT&T variant doesn't support the band, is showing no service. Locking onto LTE wouldn't help as HSPA is required for voice access.
I created a thread in the Q&A asking for ways to enable the missing AWS band on our AT&T / Canadian variant handsets. It was doable on Samsung and am hoping it can be done on our handsets.
turns out MetroPCS had to activate it. you cant just stick a sim into a new phone. they have to activate it on your account. $15 later (yeah i know...its BS) but the Lg G2 is up and running and getting 4G speeds
Can an unlocked lg g2 that is the at&t model be run on tmobile's network or are the radios in each different?

It works on TMO, AT&T doesn't have WCDMA 1700, TMO version doesn't have LTE 850.
Im actually using it vice versa, AT&T on TMO G2.

If it's missing 1700 will I be missing anything running it on tmobile? Is that a frequency tmobile uses?
Edit:
Never mind, I realized tmobile uses that band for wide band audio calls so you lose hd voice.
I put my ATT D800 on a T-Mobile prepaid Sim a couple days ago. I get better speeds on TMO's LTE than I do on ATT's, in my home. Other location vary. Given i get more than enough speed, I am not concerning myself with 1700
