I'm looking for a kernel that supports loop devices, Im trying to run Kali Linux from the complete Linux installer app but I need a kernel that supports loop device. I have the CyanogenMod and I thought it would work because it supported backtrack and let me run it and everything but with a little googling I found out that it doesn't support loop devices??? I tried looking through Google for answers to this but it seems like there's a whole lot of questions pertaining to the subject but no answers. So can anyone give me some help finding a kernel supporting it or even better a good ROM that I could just plug in?

hello,
as you probably know ubuntu has bin able to run on the nexus one and evo 4g i have spoken to the dev of both the ''mods'' and he has informed me that if someone can make a kernel for the droid x with loop devices enabled and u follow hes video its possible that ubuntu can run on the droid x.he's exact words are ''You will need a new kernel image with loop devices enabled I think. I haven't tried it on Droid X yet but it should be possible with that new kernel. You should ask someone on XDA to compile a new kernel with loop device support, someone will do it.'' and im hopping someone here can do it and we can all run ubuntu on out droid x's i would do it myself if i had any idea of what to do lol.
thank you for your help and good luck to all ubuntu loving droid x users.
You can't flash a new kernel but you can probably build loop as a module.
As for ubuntu I had sucess in running Debian from my second SD partition in a chroot environment. I installed with debootsrap and have apt nmap wifi, etc. I just need to compile a compatible kernel (for ubuntu not android) for a full install.

As of right now we have no way to boot a custom kernel even if one were to be created.
yea and how long can it take for u to compile one for ubuntu and once you have compiled one for ubuntu will it actually work for booting ubuntu even in ui mode as i can use terminal but it would be more eye-candy with the UI

sounds good man , so will this be like a rom i install and that enables me to install ubuntu?
Gotta love open source!
can u tell me how to get debian on my droid x?
Has any progress been made on creating a loop device module and getting ubuntu( or any distro) running on our droidx?
I'm willing to test.
I have been busy lately an unable to post a mini guide on getting this done. Just had my first child!!
In anycase I haven't tried making a loop module, I am waiting for the 2.2 kernel source. But I did make a second ext3 partition on my sd card and used debootstrap to install debian. It is currently only a chroot environment but I can use apt to install pacakgrs over wifi.
Hopefully in a few days I will have some time to post a step by step. If you want to try you can do some research on debootstrapp. I used a card reader to format the sd and use debootstrap to install ubuntu or debian.

I use Ubuntu on my other PC, if I could use it on my phone I would die of happiness!
Would the same method run on d2?

Hi guys,
which alternative os could be installed on the Nexus 7 (2013)?
Actually i would be glad to install Ubuntu on my device, but thats not possible because of a different cpu architecture...
So i ask you for a list of possible operating systems which not based on android like cyanogon...
Why? Just want to free from google and test it...

Actually you can install lots of different versions of linux on your Nexus 7, including Ubuntu and Backtrack. Check this app. The Nexus 7 is on the supported list.

Actually cyanogenMod is just a customized version of Android, it's not a different OS. So i take that what you meant is installing a different ROM on your Nexus 7. Anyway you should start from here
This app seems to be an emulator for different linux distros, don't?
I would prefer a full flash and boot right into linux e.g ubuntu...

He was just trying to help you. May be you should use search in the forums or use google. I typed linux on nexus 7 and found tons of results. Also there is a thread for Firefox OS in the Development forums. You would be much safer doing the linux inside android from the play store.

Okay - I will give it a try. But I realy can't imagine it's fast and stable enough for continuous running (what I am looking for)...
Firefox os sounds greate too! Thanks for the hint!
The complete Linux installer says it only works on certain supported kernels. I'm no expert, so is the stock kernel supported? I'd like to try Ubuntu on my rooted stock Nexus 7 2013. (32G)
Scroll down some and you would of found this.

My Device:
Nexus 7 (2013) - cyanogenmod 4.3.1
Hello everyone,
Before you start flaming me for posting a redundant thread, please hear me out.
After bricking my TF300T (had xubuntu installed and had to f*** with partitions..and I f***** it real good) I've decided to get myself a Nexus 10. I've been doing some research on the matter of running Ubuntu Desktop (NOT touch) on it I've seen many tutorials on how to do it I've come across plenty howtos on how to install it on the Nexus 7.
My question is, is it possible to use the same process/images for my brand new Nexus 10? How different are the devices from each other?
I've seen that Canonical has released a Ubuntu Dual Boot Installer compatible with the Nexus 10. Would it be possible to use the Rabbits kernel I used for the TF300T? Also, as far as I've seen Multiboot is only compatible with the Nexus 7.. or have I seen wrong? Did I make a bad purchase and should've gotten an other tablet?
Thanks in advance for your time and help and my advanced apologies for inconveniencing anyone with this thread.
As far as I know (and I've only triedndoing this once a while back so I may be wrong) there is no way to partition the storage in the nexus 10 to install Ubuntu, and there is no kernel to support it. You would have to run the Ubuntu iso through chroot in the terminal, and then use a VNC client app to use Ubuntu. Effectively, you'd be running Ubuntu in the background whilst running android to view it, so performance (and compatibility) takes a hit.
But, like I say, times and developers have changed so I may be entirely wrong now...
Say you manage to partition the emmc.. Then what? You'll need to port drivers over from Android (not an easy thing to do since they're proprietary).. Ubuntu touch is Android based.

Hi Friends, I was wondering how to compile android from source for My MAKO Device ?
before anyone says that What the Heck ?? ____ I have been through many tutorials, unfortunatily those are for compiline CM which i am not able to clone on my Laptop due to some GIT access issue from my Workplace.
Further i followed the official documentation for compilind android on source.android.com and was able to bild the IMAGE but as soon as i flashed the Image My Nexus's scren got blank and nothing happened .
so, can someone please guide me on how to compile Android from Source (NO CM/ ETC.) for MAKO ..
Thanks in Advance.
AOSP (source.android.com) is android. Are you sure you compiled the right packages. That you included the prebuilts and everything?
Ya . I did everything step by step. And finally I got the images but after flashing the images on my N4 I got a blank screen after boot animation.
Do you have another link so that I can try that method !.

Did you compile for the right device? I believe the guide on source.android.com is for the emulator.
Well they also have a device guide, which i followed , do i have to manually add device driver binaries as i did not do that as ot was not there in the guide.

It is, maybe you should read it again to see if you haven't missed anything.
Sure SMillerNL, i will do it again and report back.
Another thing, is actually , when i compile the sorce, I get various images, bootloader.img, system.img, etc. So, How to make a flashable zip out of those, so i can test the rom on MultiRom on my device, rather than flashing from ground 0 , as nexus4 is my kinna daily driver mobile phone.
You have to run "make mako otapackage"
Hi
I have seen this hacking app called "Reaver" and i had to install "Bcmon" for this to work but i cannot get bcmon up and working it either force closes or it says device not supported, as i tried hacking my own WiFi which my bro change the password and he doesn't want to give the code, so i tried hacking because wifi is my life i cant live without her , anyways so i am asking if there is anyway to make this broadcom wifi chipset work? Anyway at all? If you can mod please do
Thanks alot in advance

Bcmon is very finicky when it comes to what it will work with. I suggest checking out their dev page for a better idea of the requirements. Unless you have the ability to code your own driver for mon, it's not likely to find support. For penn testing You can go the linux deploy route, that coupled with a usb otg cable and a wifi card that works with the Bully\aircrack suite (I think that's what reaver needs ).

Hi first u need a compatible device to hack a WPA wpa2 WiFi or let it be wep
First u need to get a mobile having 4329, or4330 WiFi chipset I refer u HTC nexus one which is rare mobile having 0.5 % popularity or galaxy gs2 then if u got n1 install cm9 on it (cm10 on gs2) and then I hope u'r bcmon will work once it'll work then u can use either RFA or air crack GUI thanks ...
Im trying to make Reaver for Android work on my device due its not compatible with bcmon, im using custom scripts.
Im getting the following error:
CANNOT LINK EXECUTABLE: library "libpcap.so.1" not found
Due that, i used the following solution command:
export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/path/to/your/dir:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH
Obvious /path/to/your/dir is an example, mine is /sdcard/Download/libpcap.so.1
But im not getting success... i continue getting the error... Please somebody help
