Nexus 4 8gb - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it enough 8gb of storage in you n4?
Sent from my HTC One X

It truly depends. Are you going to stream your music from the cloud, or are you going to store it on the device? Do you want to have full-length HD movies saved on your device? Do you want plenty of room for backups? It's totally your call.

I have a 16 GB nexus (12 gb usable) , and I only use half of it, considering that I have a lot of useless images saved, and some old ROM zips here and there.
You can also use Google Drive, or Dropbox as cloud storage, and get extra space.

I find it is plenty, for Music I use Google drive to store and stream my MP3' and tune in radio for other music,
and Google + syncs my photos when i'm on wifi automatically
I have a 5 gig data plan so it is not an issue, but it could be if you want to store and stream music from the cloud.

from 8gb you have 5gb available to user, I tend to save 2 gb for recording funny events while out in public
the photos use alot of space due to exif data,
1gb for cwm backup
i don't have a good plan so I store music and use my network to stream when at home.

I've got nearly 12 GB free in my 16GB version so I could have managed easily with the 8. You never know when you might need the space though!

I usually use about half of my 8gb nexus, I have mainly small apps (not much of a mobile gamer) and photos.

On my hox now i used 8gb memory but its good to know that there is plenty left.. so with n4 i should watch what i keep in there

I would go with the 16gb. I would rather have more than enough space, instead of not having enough.

Go for 16gb. You'll need it.

Go with 16GB I have close to 1.5 GB in ROM backups. Approx 10.5 GB free.

Second micro Sd

I'm running out of space with 32gb card. Will my home screen get messed up or change if I change the sd cards from time to time even if I make sure that both cards have the apps I have on the home screen? I only use three pages of home screen including some folders. I don't keep shortcuts to xperia play optimised games as they appear in the play launcher anyway, same with pocket ps games. Those are probably the most space consuming apps so I'm hoping I could use 2 cards without having to redo the home screens every time.

If you copy your basic app and settings data to the second card, but not your media, it should be ok

Keep the apps that you use regularly on both sd cards and you will be fine.

Bought all gameloft games and they downloaded lots of data to sd. Some other games, Psxexperia games' data. Normally don't have media on the card - tend to stream it from NAS drive - but would not mind putting a few for when traveling.

Batch converter for MP3's to make them more Nexus 7 compatible

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good MP3 converter that I could use to lower the bitrate on 360 MP3 files? They are talk only educational files (study material for a licensing exam) but they are inexplicably recorded in 256kpbs making them over 6GB together. As they are basically a lecturer talking I really don't need such high quality and since our 16GB Nexus devices only come with 13GB of usable space, that's almost half the space right there!
So what do you folks use to batch convert? I've only found ways to convert one at a time and...like I said...there's 360 files! LOL
I use dbPoweramp. Works quite well and is multithreaded.

[Q] FPse and External Drives

I am using FPse on my Nexus 10. I have found it difficult to search for this issue but I would like to have a giant library of games stored on my tablet but since there is a lack of SD card support I find that 16GB is a little difficult to work with when some of the games take up roughly 2GB or so.
Anyway, my question is I have an OTG cable and a flashdrive that all works fine with the N10 but I cant seem to figure out how to store the psone games on the flash drive and load them up using FPse. I have nexus media loader, stock rom, not rooted or anything. I just want to be able to store them on an external device and not locally since they take up too much room.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You could create a symlink I guess, but you'd have to root.

Google play music

So after yesterday's announcement I canceled Spotify and subscribe to all play but I'm noticing that Google play music is using up a lot of data. I streamed only about 6 songs and it used up 160 mb. I don't have it set to high quality and I even in checked cache music during play back. Spotify didn't use up 1/10 as much data. Any idea why is using up so much data.

Wow even more. It added 20mb for the one 3:45 minute song I just listened to. Looks like I need to cancel and go back to Spotify
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using Tapatalk 2
It could be caching the next few songs in your playlist before you get to them.
Is it even worth cancelling my rhapsody account for this?

I don't know I canceled all play and went back to Spotify. I don't think it's caching the sins because I unchecked the cache during playback plus I ran the app for a while when I was connected to wifi incase it was caching my playlist. It's just way too much data for 6 or 7 songs.

After a few more days I can say wow, Google Music All Access is using a ton of data. I've used it a few days during my commute and the amount of data this app pulls is astounding.
Google Music definitely is a data hog but in my opinion, its far better than any other streaming service.

Yeah I canceled and went ban to Spotify. They have just as much music and use a fraction of the data.

If you're on limited data like me, I would take advantage of your phone and get a 64GB SD card. It's a good thing you have a phone with SD storage.
I am already at 40GB, using Google Music All Access since it came out, using it during work and on my drive time. That is about a week of listening. It went up 2 GB just listening this morning.

[Q] 16 GB is enough?

I was wondering if nexus 4's 16 GB of internal storage is good enough and the fact that i'm not able to expand it won't be a pain
Yes and no. I had a micro 32g in my RAZR and it was plenty.
Now I have a 16g Nexus and am half full. I don't have movies on my phone. All pictures are stored in the cloud and viewed with GalleryNext from CyanogenMod.
Music is not a problem.
All files are on my cloud Drive.

16gb is more than enough if you believe in the cloud. If you like to have everything (e.g. videos, phone, music, etc.) stored on your phone then you will need more than 16 GB. Jeff.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA
if you can adapt i would say yes.
ik was used to have a 16gb sd card as additional storage, phone itself had also 16 gb of storage. so now i have only a half of the storage i was used too. but i started to use cloud services to store pictures and video's. now i still have some personal pictures on my phone and some music.
right now i have about 6 or 7 gb of storage left.
so if you are going to use a cloud service i would definately say yes..
I have 8 and I don't care.

Your only problem is if you install multiple large game files. For instance, I currently have gta Vice City, gta San Andreas, and dungeon hunter 4 installed and they combine over 5 GB.
My solutions. Once a week I transfer pics & video to the PC, I never install apps I don't need, I stream music from google when I'm on wi-fi, and I usually keep a movie and a few full albums in storage.
You'll have to shift things around but it's very doable. Good luck.
Used to have 16gig internal + 32gig external on my Note II, and i never filled up that space.
I have the 16gig model and i didn't fill it up either. 3 gigs of music, 3 gigs of apps, 1 gig of pics. NOT using Cloud because i have no data plan (lol, 2014)
12.92gb is what you really have, you can fill 12.92gb of your things but then you need the space for pictures and cwm backup, I always try to keep 1.5gb free for videos and pictures on the fly and then 900mb is for my cwm backup. 600mb for android/data and 400mb for images thumbnails which leaves me 9.5gb for my things.
Most of you have a cloud, I have a home server for music, images, videos etc, so I don't have any bandwidth for services once I leave my wifi and I need the battery to make it throughout the day.
Its enough if you manage your files keep what you need on there, 100hours of music is enough
No!
