What has been your experiences with Gorilla Glass 3? have you scratched it and how. Light finger swipes, heavy finger swipes, grit on the S Pen or your finger, coins in pocket, left it on the dashboard and had it slide?

I still have no case or screen protector on it.. I put my phone in my pocket and sometimes i forget i have my keys in there, but i have now been much more aware to where i put it.
Which means i will prob run it over with my car soon.

It's very easy for dust (which can contain grains of sand) to get into your pocket, a little piece of it rubbing on your screen can cause scratches.
check out the tech 21 site.. their screen protectors are derived from materials of a bullet proof glass... the video they show is enough to make u want to buy one! essentially... makes your screen shatter proof to any types of drops what so ever.... not avail for note 3 yet :\
scratches... you tube it... knife test etc.. i'd say anything is possible.... but u'd have to try or put something metal in your pocket and let it hang out for a good 8 hrs maybe just maybe you might have bad luck and get it... that side metal though.. beware that will scuff real fast... luckily i haven't done it myself... still waiting to see if UAG is going to get their stuff together and start sending cases before i order
I just left the screen protector that the Note came with and it works perfevt.

I managed to crack an LCD screen after 3 years of use and the Gorilla glass was still flawless. I don't understand it.

my phone is being replace by sprint on tuesday. With me knowing that I decided to put our screen through a test. Off came the screen protector, I scratched the screen with keys, coins and nails. I put it in my pocket. Placed it on dinner table face down and slid it across the table. To my surprise, the screen is brand new without a scratch or surface scratch. I've come to the conclusion, screen protectors are a waste of money.
I was thinking of doing a youtube video. But it's friday, and I have better things to do.
Well, it's very scratch resistant based on the stories here, however adding some sand to your tests and you'll probably be singing a different tune. Some jewelry can also scratch the screen.
There is a Korean-language demonstration of this on youtube. They tried it on the i9000. It's pretty impressive. I think you can find it if you search 'galaxy s scratch test' or something similar

i dont know how i did it, but mine is scratched. 2 very small thin scratches, but they are there. i rubbed it with a cloth thinking it was a smudge. no dice. its a scratch.

LOL, read around and you'll see what I mean about sand. (but please don't do it).
And besides, you cannot claim "scratch proof" until you've tested it in all conditions.
I've had two epics. The first one I left bare, and even though I babied it and never set it anywhere but on my pocket and it's rabbit fur charging bed, it still got a lil hair sized scratch in the middle of the screen.
I've put a screen protector on the second one.
I noticed the screen is very resistant to scratches myself. When I first got the phone I had a screen protector on it but then I took it off because it kinda ruins the brightness of the display.
Anyway, after having it off for about a month the screen has maybe 4 very small scratches and that's it. I've dropped it in the parking lot, floor and slid it across the table tons of times not to mention it being in my pocket with keys. I'm in the Army I've even had it with me at the range where we lay on the ground and get sandy dirt in our pockets and it still is doing really well. I'm impressed.
It is definitely NOT scratch proof!
It is very durable and scratch resistant though.
I've had it since launch day, I have a small, fine, but visible, scratch near the top left of my screen. It's as if there's a small, fine facial hair the screen I can't remove.
I don't know how it got there, I keep it out of the pocket that I put my keys/change in. I've never dropped it.
That said, I've been hesitant to get a protector because I like how smooth the screen is.

Exactly, resistant enough that I prefer no screen protection. I can live with hairline scratches if its the only thing is need to ware a screen protector for. I have I small hairline scratch and its so difficult to see, I have to have a bright light hit it just so and look really hard to find it because its so fine...

Yes, its fairly scratch resistant but not scratch proof..it boils down to applying pressure at the right angle..
I work with alot of abrasive materials. Sometimes I'll have sand and diamond dust on my fingers when using my phone. My phone is scratched to hell from this. But nothing to deep to maker me warrant using a screen protector. The scratches are only visanle with the screen off

Not in the least. I just returned a TMobile tab that I've had since release date (replaced w/ an ATT tab that I will be flashing soon) and I can't imagine what you've done to scratch that thing... actually, what did you do to scratch it?
I've babied this thing. The only time I transport it is in the inner pocket of my jacket which is clean. 2 hair line scratches down each side of the screen. Wish I knew what did it so I could avoid doing so again. I hate screen protectors and feel they are a waste on today's generation of screens. Maybe not. Otherwise I'm very happy with it.

but anyway, ive dropped mine a few times, stood on it in boots, had my cousin kick it and it has no marks at all. damn impressed.
Anything harder than Gorilla Glass can scratch it. Many types of sand particles are hard enough. Sounds like that jacket pocket ain't as clean as you think it is.
I dropped mine 5 feet face down onto dirty hardwood floor. It slid face down over dirt and sand for about 3 feet. Not one scratch. My heart however will probably not recover from the scare. I had just opened the box and taken the plastic cover off.

I use Clear Protector shields on anything I get since Gorilla Glass can get beat up by giraffes LOL.
I'm quite impressed by how tough the display is to be honest.
I had it in my pocket next to a bunch of keys...not a single mark on the screen.
Fingerprints are a pain, but there's actually something quite satisfying when cleaning the display with chamois leather until it is squeeky-shiny-new
I don't trust any glass products not to scratch, whatever fancy name they call it. I've had one of these on since day 1: http://www.handhelditems.com/steinh...-screen-protector-ultra-crystal-p-152827.html
Gorilla Glass isn't scratch proof, and I have no idea if you were babying it how you scratched it. I'm pretty tough on my devices (Samsung Fascinate, Samsung Focus, and Galaxy Tab) - and not a single one has scratches.
Do you have sand or something in your pocket or bag? Sand is strong enough to scratch glass.
@daniel.weck - keys won't scratch normal glass, let alone supposed gorilla glass, they aren't strong enough.
People have had luck in the past buffing out small scratches with glass polish - YMMV and I'd personally be too afraid to try it.
Some screen protectors because of how they are applied will "fill in" small scratches so you don't even see them anymore. I highly recommend this route.
Does. The tab really need an screen protector?
Or is the gorilla glass tuff enuff? Did anyone get scratches to your GT screen? Without dropping it onto gravel or anything else extreme....

No you dont need it... Try with some metal, nails whatever... Glass is harder than steal so it canot be scratched... (with some normal use afcourse).

Played with a Tab at BB yesterday and it had a big scratch near the front camera. So it can definitely scratch.
Better safe than sorry!
A small particle of sand will leave a decent scratch. I always protect the screen, if not a scratch is bound to show up some day.
I like to touch directly to the glass.
So I leave the screen protector..
I use a screen protector, not to protect the screen but to eliminate the fingerprints problem
Sent from my GT-P1000
my first tab before it broke had a scratch on the screen within a week (god knows how)
so the new one had a screen protector put on it straight away, they are scratch resistant not proof, same as the galaxy S and my S also has scratches on it.
its better than normal plastic/glass but they do scratch fairly easy!
no need for one. If you drop it on the floor it might crack, but it will do that if you have a screen protector too.
i dont have screen protector on mine, no scratch..yet.

This has been thoroughly discussed in the accessories section.
I have the Zagg Invisible Shield and i like it. You can't notice it on the screen exept if there is sun like a lot of sunlight on it, but you do feel like a bit of a plastic everytime you tuch the screen, i mean it is not that smooth to the feel, but the phone registers your touch every time with no problem.
I use one I got from bestskinsever.com (I think), its great. Takes a little getting used to the texture as you're obviously not touching bare glass anymore but it definitely does the job well, no discolouring or marks on my phone since using it
Why use a Display Shield when you have a Gorilla Glass onboard?
To be, or not to be: that is the question!
you don't need a screen shield
the glass is harder than the shields
i tried to scratch it with keys and it just can't be scratched
a firend of mine did it. and why not be on the safe side if you can?
havent used a screen protector since i bought the phone about 8 months ago
i havent got any visible scratch on the screen. not even under the sun
maybe when i use a microscope, then yes, but mmm.. im not going to
Had mine bare for 8 months as well and the screen still looks perfect, and trust me I'd notice any significant blemishes. Just the other day I wiped it clean and looked under bright light and could only see a couple of near-microscopic scratches.
A shield would ruin the feel IMO. I just keep out in its own pocket and hold it tight.

I prefer having one than not too... I had one so far and know that i removed i see i'd rather have one on for extra protection. After all Gorilla glass can be scratched too (although it's not easy to scratch it). I'm on the "better safe than sorry" side but for others who are very careful with the phone i would just suggest a case!
It is not neccesary for scratches but it may help to protect the screen from shattering when you drop it..

the force that is needed to scratch this glass would also scratch it past one of the screen shields
screen shields are useless for this phone, they just make it look uglier... and in some cases like zaag they also add a rubbery feel which ruins the smooth experience

to be honest it's unnecessary but for me it's annoying to wipe my screen everytime it gets dirty, and with a screen protector it doesn't smudge as easily
I took off my screen protector and now have a scratch. Its only visible if you switch off display and see the screen under a bright light. The back cover really needs some protection cause its a scratch magnet.
Gorilla Glass is resistant to everyday scratches, like from dust particles and carrying it in your pocket and things like that. No screen is resistant to high force impact.
I've had my Galaxy for over a month now and the display glass is still pristine (and I use it in differrent environments)! I had a Desire which was durable to some extent as well, but I managed to scratch its screen somehow. This phone? No problem whatsoever.
The plastic casing, however... the back cover has visible "signs" of usage
Strangely enough I have had some mixed experiences with gorilla glass.. My own galaxy GT-i9000 went 2 weeks and the screen was fine.. then i decided my fingers had grubbed it up a little too much.. took my cleaning cloth for my glasses and went to work only to find i had basically put hairline scratches over the whole screen.. Not terrible mind you but noticeable under bright lights or on low screen brightness..
On the other end of the scale I convinced a friend to get the galaxy s also.. Walking down a dirt road, he tripped while holding the phone and it slip maybe 5 meters down the dirt.. not a single scratch.. the plastic was a bit tarnished though from bouncing around.
I've treated the phone with kid gloves since I got it and already I've 2 scratches on the screen

You will have your money on Monday.
same here, with the desire HD after 2 years of rugged use not a single scratch, with the note 2, 2 days no sand, no keys, nothing that could scratch it, but still a tiny scratch already on the screen pretty bummed about it, as i was going to get the official flip book case for protection, but it isn't out yet... so much for a non scratched device after 2 days...
Despite name I'm no where near the sea/beach although sand does get everywhere! I'm guessing there would be no way to Polish a scratch out? Due to the special coating on the glass?
I wonder when replacement glass will be available for some diy repairs?

Did you put it in a pocket - probably a bit of grit in there.
Also, need to make sure there is no particles on the pen tip - on my old Touch Pro a couple of years ago, I got into the habit of always rubbing the tip of the stylus against my shirt or trousers first thing after taking it out of the silo.
GG and Samsung is the phones that for me always get some marks on the screen. Same as my old s2 back in the days and S3 both got it even if I dont threat my devices so damn hard. and I am not close to sand so that is not the problem...

This was in XDA Portal once. Worth a watch. And this is about OG Note... Im pretty sure the glass on Note is much better... It shouldnt scratch with any amount of keys/sand in the pockey...or even rubbing them on it lol..
I think someone dropped your phone from a moderate heighy...
I had a Nokia N8 (long time ago, my little brother still uses it as a camera and treats it badly), an SGSII and a Note 1 before my Note 2. Never used any screen protector, never had a single scratch. The guy who bought the SGSII for me still uses it and it is still flawless. I will buy the flip from ebay since in my country even the Note 2 won't be available this year, let alone a cover, but just because the flip actually protects it from falls. My Note "1" fell twice and the flip made it survive without scratches on the body. As a rule I don't put it in my pocket, if that counts =)
You know which screens don't scratch? Ones with screen protectors. It's not a matter of how long you went without a scratch, it's how long until you get one. Again, I like the ability to replace a screen protector with ease vs any sort of DIY glass replacement. Next you guys are going to start saying how cases are silly because you never got a scratch on the phone... poppycock.
Its never been dropped, not even put in my pocket! (DONT LAUGH) but I keep it in a clean sock, changed every day and carried in my hand always.
