[Q] Replaced LCD, phone won't turn on - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I just replaced my broken LCD but now it won't start. I'm worried I might have damaged the battery and I have damaged the logic board. The very little black thing pointed with an arrow in the picture below is hanging by a thread.
Symptom :
When plugged in USB, the red light flash constantly
Screen does not turn on, no vibration
If I unplug the battery and plug the USB nothing happens
I'm trying to diagnose wether it's the battery or motherboard or both that are broken
Question :
Should it start with the battery unplugged (it does not)
Should it start with a broken battery plugged
Do you think the little black thing I half broke can prevent it to start
Now that the screen is not broken, can I get the rest of the phone fixed by the warranty or they will be able to tell I opened it
Thanks !

No its not ur battery. The red light issue appears with nexus 4 a lot especially when your battery drains out to 0%. Let it charge for couple hours.

I ended up transfering the internal from another nexus 4, and it did the same thing. As you said, after charging for a while it started normally.
Although I still can't tell if the first one is working, I'll have to reconnect it to a broken screen and see if it boot after charging for a while because I forogt to do a nandroid backup of this one

I know this is a silly question, but are you sure you reconnected the battery where it needs to go? I would have a look at an article/video about replacing the battery and make sure you've sat it in correctly.
There is no way to connect the battery else-where it should to be connected, I saw more than a video for De- and Re-assembly of the device.
I guess you did not catch my problem, the device sense the charger is connected, after long press on Power Button display shows me the white icon of (Fully Charged Battery) in middle of a black screen but IT NEVER START UP how long I pressed the Power Button.
I forgot to mention that; the device showed me once the word "Google" which appears before Nexus Splash Screen while starting-up the mobile and froze on it till I disconnect the battery.
At this moment it acts like before ; Freezing on (Fully Charged Battery) icon !!

[Q] Nexus won't detect replacement battery

Hi guys.
I bought a Nexus 4 from Ebay but ever since it arrived I've been having problems with the original battery (the battery would drop from 80% charge to 0, the phone would refuse to start up until i connected it to the charger, and cell signal would drop every now and then).
I just bought an original replacement battery, but after I installed it, the phone would not start, so i put it on charger and the white lightning would pop up and show that the battery is being charged.
The problem is - even after 10 hours at this state, the battery did not charge at all. The phone won't do anything without the charger connected at all, and when i hold the power button with the charger connected the phone just blinks red and restarts to the charging screen every time.
The phone is just acting the same as it is acting without any battery inserted at all.
So to clarify - new battery is not charging, I can get to bootloader mode and charging screen, and when i try to start up the device I get one quick blink from the red notif. light and quick restart back to the charging screen.
I'm having the new battery replaced on monday just in case I bought a faulty replacement battery, but do you have any tips in the meantime on how could I fix the issue?

If this continues to happen after replacing the battery again, the charging port must be fried.

See but the thing is, the phone charges the old battery just fine. I'm charging it right now as we speak.
Battery is probably copy/faulty, get a replacement.
Might not actually be a battery problem sounds more like the red light of death, which may have been caused by the battery changing but doesn't mean the battery is actually the problem. Plenty of threads around here on how to fix rlod

Well I thought so too, but I have tried literally everything except charging the battery with separate cables outside the phone and nothing helped. I actually think this can't be it, because I couldn't find a single thread about having RLOD after replacing battery on the internet. Anyway, I'll exchange the new battery for another new battery on monday and see if that helps or not.

[Q] LG G2 Red Light No Power

Hi All
My friend recently gave me his LG G2 as it had a problem.
What happens is currently if you try and turn on the phone nothing happens. When you plug the phone into the charger the red led blinks and nothing else happens. He told me that he got the phone brand new off eBay and that the problem started after he left the phone plugged in overnight. No software modifications have been done to the phone prior to the red light issue.
After some investigation into the issue i found nothing except another eBay listing with a LG G2 D802 where the guy got water into his phone and it has the exact problem where the phone does not turn on and a red light comes on when attempting to charge the phone. The eBay listing also says that the phone was seen by a service technician who said the circuit board was damaged but is repairable
Before i spend any money buying spare parts does anyone have any idea on what the problem is and whether its worth fixing?
Thanks
Could it be that the motherboard got damaged?
I don't think the mother board got damaged. I had the same problem with both my G2's. (D800 and LS980)
I had changed the motherboard from ls980 to the d800, I connect everything, LCD, digitizer, battery, front and back camera ..etc..
I go to try and power the phone up but nothing happens..
I go to plug in the phone.(Nothing happens)
I use another charger(nothing happens.)
My phone wasn't water damaged though. In your case you could open up your phone and disconnect the battery connector, After about 1-3 minutes connect it back & leave phone alone.(don't try to power up)
I had a problem with one of the phones not having the red LED light coming up to tell nevit was charging. I switch the battery to another bezel & motherboard & it shows 40% battery level.
It definitely worth a try to open your phone & disconnect and connect the battery if the phone was charging one night.. I remember seeing a forum on here that the phone might be still on charging mode or something.

Hi,
I have the same problem, the only sign of life is a red flashing led when I try to charge it up.
My lg g2 (D802) did get water damaged tho, however I don't think it has been damaged that bad. When I found it in the watery environment it still worked, but it was quite warm. First hour or so I put in in a towel, because I wasnt home. When I got home I discovered it was dead. Then I put it in rice for two days, but now this problem occurred.
I reconnected the battery (twice) but it didnt change a thing, and now it still won't boot up...
Hopefully someone can help me (or sees this at all),
Thanks in advance
I have the same problem with my G2. I changed the motherboard after it got water damage but nothing else changed. what should i do?
Solution for blinking red error
Hello Guys,
I have the same problem like you others. 8 times red blinks, phone won't charge, PC won't recognize it, dead at all. But I found the solution. There is a short circuit on the moterboard. That can be LCD, digitizer, buttons or anything other. I have unpluged digitizer connector and BOoM!, connected it to charger and turn on with power button. So you guys can test what's making problem on your MB, it can be anythinhg. I hope that will help to someone.
Sorry for bad English.
same thing here
I have an LG G2 that I recently replaced the batter (ordered from ebay). After the install, the phone just blinks the red indicator light. When I hold the power button, it blinks 8 times, pauses then starts over again blinking 8 times and pausing. Please help.

I'm having the exact same problem...working ls980 phone using to restore my D801 motherboard....but have no power.
When I plug the ls980 board back in it works again. Last time my D801 board red led blinked 2x but wouldn't startup with its own battery. How did you fix it?
It is the battery. either the cable is ripped or the battery is at 0 volts I've just tested this on my LS980 using my analyzer to fully charge a battery externally to 100% made it work fine, please check the battery cable its very thin and very easy to rip without knowing it. (I work at a battery store) Hope this helps some of you!
A solution for 8 Red blinks:
If you have 8 Red blinks when you change the screen the Solution is:
The two metal joints from two small boards (besides volume and power button) that connect to the motherboard they should be completely attached to the connector.

[Q] Nexus 7 (2012) dead. Just flickers

My Nexus 7(2012) 16 gb appears dead. Was on CM11 with TWRP recovery.
Here's what happened :
I was using my N7, the screen froze for a second while scrolling on the browser.
After that a dead black line appeared permanently in the middle of the screen(horizontal).
I figured it might just be the case of dead pixels.
I continued using it like that only.
After a few weeks of usage, now the device won't power up at all.
When i connect to the wall charger, i just get a back light. No display. Nothing.
I tried booting into recovery, but nothing appears on the screen.
I kept it charging for few hours, but no luck.
It only flickers when connected to charger. Disconnecting the charger causes no activity what so ever on the device.
Nothing happens if i connect it to computer via usb.
Any solutions i can try?
Press & Hold the power button for at least 10 seconds while plugged into a power source. If no signs of life after completing the above step my first thought would be a faulty board..
Its just a black blank screen.

Well, I would hate to be the bearer of bad news but it appears your device had a critical failure and is now dead... Obvious answer right? HaHa
RIP Nexus :crying:
You can always try and leave it to charger for a day and see if you get some life to your nexus. I had similiar thing with my nexus, I was actually booting new ROM and then it did some flickering and got blacked out. After connecting to charger nothing happened, just random flickering. I was able to recover and get it back in bussiness when I woke up next morning (it had been charging over night). This was almost a year ago and atm I'm writing this with the same particular device. So give it a shot again, you might still get it back to work. Also you could try to boot the device to fastboot mode by pressing power+volume buttons at the same time for a while. Good luck, let me know if you were able to get it boot&work again!
You could also try popping the back off and make sure the ribbon cables for the display are seated properly. While your there check the battery cable.

Battery or Mobo, opinion please!!

Replaced the LCD full screen assembly on my LG G2, all went smooth following a YT video couldn't really have gone wrong,
Switched phone on and battery displayed 0% for several minutes, eventually getting to 2% when I turned it on, all was still OK, however it dropped to 0% within a few minutes even while still plugged in,
Then it was completely dead, no charge light and couldn't turn on,
Removed all of the components again from inside of phone and rechecked all of the connections, again all OK, this time it cam on again!! 0% charging, so I left it charging waiting as long as poss, 45% it was at when I checked but left it while I was sleeping,
Woke up this morning to phone completely dead, cant power on and no charge light showing
Am I wasting my time buying a new battery? could this be another component? LCD?
Appreciate any help,
Thanks
Lee
have now disassembled and re-assembled a further twice and now it does not power on at all
no red flashing light and nothing on display
I've got a similar problem. Did you find out anything? Bought a replacement screen from ebay, and was really confident I could do this, since I earlier replaced the usb charging port with no issues. Of course the battery was discharged completely before this, but I charged the phone and it worked a week ago (which resulted in an annoying alarm that I was unable to shut off because of the broken screen). So after replacing the screen, I plugged it in and turned it on before putting on the back cover. At first it vibrated and I could see the backlight turning on. Then I could see the red led, and thought it was charging, but then the led started to cycle between different colors. I was not able to get a picture on the screen. I then plugged it out and put on the back cover, in case that was needed (didn't seem so from the yt video I used). After that, nothing. Not even a LED. And the phone didn't get any hot like it does when charging/working. It did somewhat get a bit hot the first time.
My first suspect was the battery. It did take some wiggling and force/heat to remove it‚ and it did kind of bend at the edges, but not very much. Any ideas?
