No Open GL ES 3.0 on GT-I9500? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I updated today to 4.3 based in several websites this update should bring open GL 3.0 included.
Antutu still says my device does not supports it and checking on Internet found an article that says only the snapdragon supports it.
Can anyone clarify this info?
Thanks

The PowerVR SGS544 MP3 inside the Exynos 5410 does not support OpenGL ES 3.0. Imagination technologies did say they were gonna make API's for the GPU so it can have some but not all of its features. Samsung may include it in a software update in the future.

No, and probably NEVER. We do have chances of getting open gl 2.1 with some feature set from 3.0. And that's all.

Well that sucks! Still a great phone, I just wish we could always get the latest features.
Thanks!

[Q] Which eclpise?

Which version of eclipse do i need to start off? I am very new to android and am just looking for some guidance!
http://www.eclipse.org/downloads/packages/eclipse-ide-java-ee-developers/heliossr2
That one ^, then you need to download the Android plug-ins for it.
ok and since it is a zip file do i need to unpack it? and are the plug ins on the same site?
Look on the website for the Android SDK setup. It tells you how to get the ADT Plugin and everything else you need to get started with Android. If you're setting up the SDK, it will walk you through everything.
Get the galieo 3.5 or 3.6. Not the heilos. I had helios version but alot of commands were not compatible to programming.

He's right.
Helios contains a really annoying bug, when you type and it tries to complete your code it freezes, and in a slower pc like mine it could be more then 1 min (in my friend's pc with dual core 2.6 GHz processor and 4 GB RAM it was about 15 secs, but it's annoying too). AFAIK galileo doesn't contain this bug.

The latest update has solved this issue. It is working perfectly now, I am using Helios, I suggest you give it a try again.
i did have the latest update installed but had problems setting up the plugin for GIT with github. with galileo it worked fine
And if I"m not mistaken, you can disable "code completion".

I searched for it, but I couldn't find & it makes the development easier

I haven't tried it, but look under "Eclipse, Preferences, Java, Editor, Content Assist". There might be something there that overrides it.
I'm also experimenting with Intellij IDEA10 for development...seems to be a bit quicker with code completion, but does lack some features of Eclipse.
Gallileo is MUCH stabler than helios learned that today..

Multiscreen GT2 7.0 ?

I've seen Galaxy Note 10.1, the multi screen was good. Is that possible for GT 2 7.0?
I haven't use any ROM yet. Just stock 4.0.4.

As i know till now not possible may be somewhat difficult as processor of tab2 less than note10 wish in the future
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
Its possible, maybe itll come.
Sent from my SGH-I997 using xda app-developers app
If that matter related to hardware limitation maybe you're right. It's not possible.
Actually, our device already run multitask, but can't show that side by side display.
Except when using the mini apps on the lower nav bar.
This will be great if some devs out there take this challenge and bring something new for the device.
Make this happen.

well our tab might be able to pull it off....i can run a video in dice player and play a light game simultaneously, so i guess its possible...

You wouldn't want such a lousy implemented proprietary feature that only works with proprietary Samsung apps.
There is a company who is working on this http://www.onskreen.com/cornerstone/ and they are open source and releasing source code for developers to work on. I am not so good in compiling from source, any dev out that to take the challenge?

[Q] IR Blaster on AOSP ROM

I was wondering if anyone has had any luck getting the IR blaster to work on a AOSP ROM'S. Has anyone tested Peel Smart Remote on one, or possibly managed to get a WatchOn apk and get that working on AOSP? Having the IR blaster is the only thing keeping me on TouchWiz at the moment since my TV remote's power button is fried, but I would really like to get TouchWiz off.
Download smart remote from the play store. It works very well.

The $10 one that specifies gs4? And that is confirmed to work on AOSP ROMS?
I don't think it will work. Asop roms delete pretty much ALL added features to the phone. Someone would have to get the apps from TW and see if they work on it. I'm not sure which system app you would need. If I knew which system apps I needed I would test it for you. I have the smart remote for g s4 app

Im gonna try some roms out today. I'll let u know what I find with the ir stuff. I had the s3 and the ir is the main reason I upgraded. That and the battery.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
@kyhassen: Yeah, that's just about what I thought. I'm sure if someone dug through TW enough that whatever code is needed for it to work would be found. Could even be something as simple as a call method to find the hardware that gets passed along to whatever app the user is using, which could then be ported into an AOSP to keep that working..
@Mahapederdon: Thanks, please do keep me in the loop if you find something

Yeah keep us up to date on what you find!
The IR code is proprietary. Meaning it is unlikely the needed code will be released any time soon. Its possible someone may reverse engineer the drivers one day, or the code will "open" so all hope is not lost.
Try to back up the apk from stock through Titanium backup and restore it on your favorite aosp rom and see if it works.

Has anyone tried that?
I just did on slim bean it installs and opens but it won't work as a remote I think aosp doesn't have the s4's or drivers.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda premium
Ok, so then it looks like someone needs to either reverse engineer the drivers, or talk Samsung into releasing them.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
And I just asked Samsung about that, and they basically said no. Anyone know anyone who may be able to reverse engineer it?
Sent from my SPH-L720 using xda app-developers app
So I'm guessing that smart remote won't work.
GS4 on Slim bean and CarbonROM
Hardware support is missing at the kernel level, .apks won't fix it.
It seems to be fully functional on the Google Experience S4 and also CyanogenMod nightlies according to users and reviewers.

Yea, I can confirm it works on the Google Experience S4 rom running on my SPH-L720, tried it out just recently using the WatchON app.
Same here then I tried it on CM 10.1 latest nightly and it didn't work on that but it worked on the Google edition rom.

[Q]Bluetooth 4.0 (Software or Hardware)

I know this phone has hardware support for BT 4.0, but does it need software (Android 4.3+) to activate it, or does it only need the hardware built in to support BT 4.0 devices?
I am asking cause I want to buy a BLE device, but if Android 4.2 can't utilize it then no point in getting it.
No its already there. LG and Samsung have added it to 4.2.2 without Google.

STOCK Music App issue

I dont know if this has already been posted (im sure it has and mods can delete this if need be) but, the stock music app is a battery and RAM drainer and leaker, so much to the point where it cripples the phone into an unusable state. In order to fix this problem, i would recommend switching to Play Music, as it still has SD Card rights and doesnt generate this horrible problem. (This is what i am now doing) just wanted to inform anyone who didnt know/had the same problem i did!

Yeah, we were looking into the same issue here:

Good to know that's it's definitely an issue in the application since we have Exynos version and you have Snapdragon.

Yeah, i was using the app for the first time yesterday during class, and it kept cutting out for no reason. I figured out the solution on the ride home. Play music seems to be working fine though! I dont know if Samsung can update it via samsung apps or play store or if it needs to be via OTA update, but they need to fix it.
