Hi all,
After sorting through xda for a few hours and pouring through the wiki entry and LTE references, I have come to the conclusion that I'm utterly confused about LTE compatability.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_G2#Network_compatibility
Is LTE compatibility so bad that you cannot easily move between countries and still get LTE coverage? Is it foreseeable that this will continue for a long time?
I'm living in NZ right now, and spend quite a bit of time in the United States, so I'm looking for the best LG G2 model to bridge the gap. Near as I can find, I think it will be the Canadian D803 since it covers LTE bands 4,7,and 17. NZ and Australia seem to be going for bands 7 and 8, and the US seems be in 4 (except sprint), and 2 and 17 (except verizon and sprint), with ATT alone on 5 and Verizon alone on 13. Al least according to the wiki for the G2 versions for the US linked above.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LTE_frequency_bands#Deployments_by_region
Is this data correct?
Am I also correct in reasoning that the D802 'global' version in supporting bands 1, 3, 7, 8, and 20, would not get and LTE support in the US? Has anyone tried this yet?
Thanks for the help and sorry if I missed an existing discussion on this.
Kia Ora mate.
The information i believe is correct regarding the D802. I pulled one from mobicity.co.nz. Was recently in the US with a Vodafone HTC One tri-band i purchased from clove.co.uk. (same freqs) With a T-Mobile prepaid simm i was not able to pull any LTE in San Francisco or Manhattan. That said the H band was plenty fast enough (compared to slow as sht NZ anyway) so i wasn't unhappy to not get LTE, but i understand, if you have it why not get it!
The LTE rubbish is reminding me of 3G/H issue where phones came in tri-band with 4 GSM bands to cover all. Its only since the Quad-bands have appeared that the 'portability' problem has gone, now with LTE its all back to sht again! to many bands. I notice one model at least (one from expansys.co.nz) of the Galaxy Note 3 has a massive list of LTE frequencies which of course is the only way phones going forward are going to meet international travellers expectations and capture sufficient LTE bands to be useful and portable. sigh. back to 'come on you plonkers sort it' level of deployment for our phones..
I'd personaly lean towards getting the more international (D802) model and take what you get from the provider of choice in the states. No way i'd want a verizon, at, or tmob purchased model; what with all the bollocks poor yanks have to put up with - stick to international versions.
thats my opinion anyway. good luck bro.

I recently became the proud new owner of a SM-900A NC2 note 3. I had a galaxy mega that broke, and my insurance plan replaced it with the note 3. I was actually excited at first. I had been somewhat regretting my choice and wishing I had gone with the note 3 to begin with. But then I discovered that there is no root option for the NC2 update. Nothing. The same was true of my galaxy mega for a long time (SGH-I527). With both of these devices, I noticed that some models were easily rooted/modded, and others (mine) took ages to get a functioning root.
My plan is to be an early adopter of the Note 4 when it's released in September. I don't want to be caught in the same situation where I own one of the models that is very difficult to hack. I want to buy the most open model that can be used on the AT&T network with LTE (Samsung seems keen to release developer editions for verizon, but not with LTE).
Right now, the most open model of the Note 3 seems to be N9005. I'm not going to outright buy a new note 3 that I plan on replacing in 3 months. But when that time comes, are there some rules of thumb that I should know about to choose the most open model? From my limited experience, I've learned that buying through AT&T is a recipe for slavery. But, there are many non-AT&T options.
So, what's the best choice? an International model? A different LTE carrier's model unlocked? Or, is it too early to tell?
Thanks for the help,
Michael

Thanks, but I don't plan on re-purchasing the note 3. Do you think the same will be true of the Note 4? Assuming there's no LTE developer edition, will the international version provide the best chance at freedom? Is it too early to speculate?

As long as you get the qualcomm version you'll be fine i guess
Isnt it just that the n9005 is more common.
So theres more people playing around with it and ending up with solutions?
And yeah Samsung's attitude against customizing are terrible.
The Note3 will be my last Samsung electronic(s) b.t.w.

n9005 is the most common and powerful , here in kuwait the stupid exynos version not even released cause people tired of it laggy and fake octa core and no one fancy owning 3g phone anymore
When the Note 3 was released there was a pretty big difference between the two phones that initially made flashing roms from International on TMobile - wifi wouldn't work intially - internal SD Card was wiped frequently on flashing and a bunch of other issues made flashing International ROMS on TMOBILE phones difficult at first. (this was fixed later but it took a while)
The S5 was a lot different - I am not a technician or Developer by any means - but as a novice looking in - it almost seemed like International and Tmobile mobile note 3's were almost entirely different phones - whereas the S5's were almost identical.
I realize I maybe oversimplifying this - but doing so to make a point. I am very curious about what will happen with the Note 4. I doubt if there is any way to know until both phones are out and Devs start creating roms - but I wonder if the NOTE 4 will be more like it was with the NOTE 3 or will they be more like it was with the S5 ? Samsung will never listen to me but I think you know how I would vote -
looking forward to the NEXT BIG THING....
Not sure if you look at gsmarena or phonescoop, but kind of like the GN3, GS3 etc. The GN4 US variant has Q-com Snapdragon CPU, Int'l has Exynos (sp?) So some hardware is similar.
But T-mo variants vs other, like before T-mo rom has wifi call capability. Others do not.

I realize that WIFI Calling is a major difference between international and TMOBILE - but I was more interested in the file structure of the phone and how wifi - or data works - not sure the reason, but it originally was difficult to flash International ROMS on the TMOBILE Note 3 - data wifi didn't work - data didn't work - and often the Internal SD card was wiped. When the S5 was released, the phones were so similar none of these problems happened. I was flashing International ROMS in the first day or two that the S5 was released.
I am not a dev so I can't speak to the reasons why it was this way on the NOte 3 - but except for the obvious differences (wifi Calling for example) I am only hoping that the Note 4 is more like it was with the S5 than it was with the note 3.
Lets make sure first that Tmobile keep its bootloader unlocked!
kinda like papabear was saying, i believe the S5 international vs US both had snapdragon, which made them very compatible. the GN3 had exynos/snapdragon, and that made them quite different. exynos didn't have near as much development.
http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=6033&idPhone2=6434
The GS4 was really good with cross compatibility. The T-Mo and i9505 variants were very similar, both had the same CPU, etc. You could flash the same ROMs but not radios/modems or bootloaders. My concern is if the International Note 4 will work with T-Mo LTE since it doesn't have the 1700 band.
Dont forget about band 12.
Do we know If the international version N910F supportd Tmobile LTE? I think I saw a video on phonedog and the Josh was using an international version with a tmo sim card.
Any confirmation?

As far as I know, on the international models it doesnt say 4G LTE . It displays either LTE or 4G next to the reception bars.

I haven't used Samsung phone for a while, but from past experience I'm pretty sure that you only need to flash appropriate radio/kernel to get data and WiFi working again. just my 2 cents.
I've got my eyes on the note 4 and thinking about getting one to play with, I have Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013, yeah, I know I'm a Nexus junkie

That actually wasn't true with the NOTE 3 which is the main reason I did this thread in the first place. When the NOTE 3 was released, if you flashed an INTERNATIONAL ROM WIFI and DATA and blue tooth did not work at all. Someone eventually came up with a fix which had to be flashed anytime you flashed an international rom - I don't know why this was necessary - it just was - it was almost as if there was some major difference in file structure and programming on the International version versus the TMOBILE or Canadian Version.
The S5 wasn't like that at all - Virtually every International ROM worked beautifully from the get go on TMOBLILE phones. So - the NOTE 3 must have had something that was done differently on International Versions of the phone compared to TMOBILE and Canadian Versions - and I am hopeful that THE NOTE 4 doesn't do that.
So - I am excited about the Note 4 - can't wait for it to be released - I know all of our questions will be answered then - looking forward to it!

Exynos doesn't have anything to do this. ALL of these phones come in both versions - Snapdragon and Exnynos - the note 3, S5 and NOte 4 each have both variations.
anyone on a tmobile snapdragon note 3 had problems with wifi and data when trying to flash roms from the international snapdragon phones Note 3.... I honestly don't know why the NOTE 3 had this issue and the S5 didn't - but it doesn't have anything to do with Exynos - but fingers crossed that the NOTE 4 behaves more like the S5 than the Note 3 in this regard - it will make flashing much easier.
(PS - there is no evidence that TMOBILE will lock bootloader. ATT and Verizon will for sure - both have said as much - every phone ATT and VERIZON releases are locked (except the developer version on Verizon) but TMOBILE has not given any indication they will be locking the bootloader - I don't expect they will lock the bootloader on the note 4 - we will find out for sure in a few weeks...

If odin is still the tool to flash samsung official ROM, then you should be able to choose what to flash and what not to. well, i might be wrong but thats how i did on AT&T Captivate, Galaxy S2 and Galaxy Nexus. I remember that i've been switching between international and US version ROMs with just ROM without flashing any radios. Samsung may changed ROM structure, that I have no idea. And Sale is still sending all the samsung ROMs to me whenever he made one:victory:

Hi everyone,
I noticed just now that Galaxy Note 4 is available again for people who wants to upgrade their current device. I looked at the "spec" listed by Sprint and it shows the current OS as Android 5.0. I don't know when it became available again on Sprint.com but for awhile it was MIA. I am curious if anyone has grabbed the "newer" note 4 yet and whether it has been rooted or sim unlock for international GSM network? Thanks in advance for any response.
Guys
I am a bit disappointed with the reviews on line.
Lots of people wrote lots of reviews, specs, etc….
Everyone failed to mentioned that the S-7 edge CANNOT do data and voice at the same time using Sprint network.
What am I missing? How come this was overlooked by everyone or failed to mentioned.
I belie eths is a very important performance issue for people thinking to upgrade (downgrade) their current phones.
I have a note 3 and I can be on WAZE, talk on the phone and get text simultaneously with the same sprint plan as my S7 edge which cannot do that.
I spoke to Samsung tech department and Sprint tech department in a nut shell they both agree that the S7 cannot do that.
I thought you guys should know.
The S7 is a downgrade in functionality to many older phones like a note 3
PS Note 7 has the same problem and possibly many others phones relying on the LTE network with sprint provider.

Yeah, this has been an issue since the days of the newer model S4's. The problem is that the newer Sprint phones (probably in the last 3 years) don't have two separate radios like your note 3 or my old S3 and allowed for data and voice simultaneously. This is an issue with CDMA carriers mostly. Verizon allows both voice and data simultaneously over VoLTE, but there is a catch. If you are in a non-LTE area (3g/1x) you lose the function. Additionally, if you are on a call and leave a LTE area and transition to a 3g/1x area, you lose the call completely. Sprint hasn't turn on VoLTE because the hand off technology doesn't prevent this yet. I can't remember 100%, but I believe you only hand voice and data together on older phones if you were in an LTE area because of the different antennas...might be wrong on this one.
GSM carriers are a different story...no issues there.
Hope this helps...but this has been an ongoing issue. I can use google maps and talk at the same time...strange that Waze can't do that.

PS I noticed first time when I was driving with waze and talking on the phone and tried to alert people of a policemen the phone told me no internet service thats how I find out never before with my note 3 had that issue .
Thanks
Guys i am so upset and in disbelieve that everyone using sprint is fine with the fact that the phone only single task. Its basically BS big time. I guess I will run my note 3 to the ground. Its beyond my normal understanding why the consumers will purchase something with less capabilities than the one before. My fellows friends enjoy the S7 I just can't justify it.

So you were driving, talking on the phone, and trying to play around with the waze app at the same time? Maybe the lack of simultaneous data and voice is what you need
Maybe but many times I am out on a site and a customer calls with a questiion and during the phone call I text my field engineer the location in question and also the customer sent a plan sheet via email and that my friend its how I pay for my toys. With the S7 I have to hang up. With a phone 3 generations back I don't (Note 3).
Industry uses the term upgrade very loosely.
Why should I/you pay over 700 dollars for a device that provides less . Maybe I just don't understand the word upgrade.
But at the very least this forum and manny other forum should note that fact on the reviews.
And don't forget nonroot on top of that.
Please understand I had a Note 3 for a long time I never would have thought that multitasking was going to be an issue. In fact stupid of me I returned my first S7 edge within the 14 days because I thought it was defective. I read lots of reviews but no warning.
Go Note 3.
PS while I am messing around with this just got an email from the client.... you can't
This issue affects pretty much all the handsets released through Sprint in the past couple of years. It is not limited to the S7.
Until such time as Sprint implements VoLTE on its network this will continue to be an issue. Sprint is the only one of the four major carriers not to have implemented VoLTE yet.

Does anyone know why the remove the cdma antenna from all phones? It seems to me that even when VoLTE its implemented we will have to pay for the service. Now its included. Also are there any recent phones being made with the dual antenna?
Thanks

They did remove any antennas. They are no longer putting secondary transceivers to support the phone being connected to two different networks at the same time. The main reason this was done is due to the large number of bands phones have to support nowadays.
When VoLTE is implemented there will not be an additional cost.

You know what it is amazing to me...we loose service and no one cares and yet the consumer its willing to pay top price for hardwarw that provides less services regardless of the reason. I have a note 3 with super connectivity which in my opinion it's the main reason to have a mobile device.
