[Q] Hide Soft Keys and use Pie Control - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I would like to hear any recommendations or experience from you. What is the way you used to hide soft keys and use pie control?
I found many apps in the market or this xposed thread. I have rooted D802 and I would like to follow some well working combination instead of spending time to install & try & uninstall.
Thanks a lot for answers.

Install lmt launcher and set pie up.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150
Then add this to the bottom of build.prop, it disables the soft keys without an app.
qemu.hw.mainkeys=1
Do it with an build.prop editor to get the right permissions and so on.
Cheers.

Thanks, works great! :victory:
I got only one issue:
I got FC message when connect USB cable, headphones. I think it's related to "LG animation of plugging cable" on the bottom of screen (attachment). Do you have it same? Did you solve it somehow?

Well, that FC bothered me so much that I made Xposed Mod to get rid of it. If you will experience it again, you can get it here.

Hiding Nav soft keys without an application ?

Does anyone know how could I use a build prop edit to safely hide the bottom navigation bar without using unnecessary RAM? I use LMT so it isn't necessary.
I believe its in the build . prop file because when I replaced it to do a status bar mod, the bar disappeared momentarily when the file was missing.
However, I'm new to Android and I don't want to put myself into a boot loop or worse by blindly deleting things. I don't even know how to use a recovery yet. So does anyone know where this is? Thanks
LG G2
I just use an app. Auto hide soft keys. It's in the play store. Also use LMT myself. Let me ask you something, what setting do you set gesture input to?

I find that app kind of bugging, and there are moments when my buttons are no longer being displayed and I have to reboot to get them back.

add

to your build.prop file. That is all I did. Just don't be stupid like me and do it before you turned LMT on. I had to think up some creative ways to open it from within other programs without the back button or home available

Softbricked my phone and had to restore to stock then re-root etc :crying:
what is LMT?
This is LMT, or one of its functions. Its a really customizable navigation bar that replaces the stock one, along with any of other gesture control you could think of. Its great, you should try it out
LG G2
It swipes in from the bottom, top or sides. You can hold the gesture and lift your finger on the button or just swipe through in the direction you want and the function will activate. It gets much more complex than my setup but I'm just keeping it simple for now

Sorry, you softbricked after inserting the string in build.prop? I'm interested to this mod (hiding soft keys and activate LMT)

The best app to hide soft keys is UDN (ultimate dynamic navbar),it can hide your keys without the need to modify them in build prop....And replace them with its soft keys that are not only customisable but you can also make them as tiny as you want in order not ot occupy as much space...

woof i tried UDN, to hide nav bar it requires xposed with it's module..i'm not too much interested to install other sw indeed, and IMHO it's the same of autohide
Then the build.prop string qemu.hw..... works??

It worked for me.Without xposed,i just ticked the option in the settings. Also you can make the keys as tiny as you want, even if you want them visible all the time and not hidden it will help alot to make them tiny.

Hide nav bar root required

Sideload and install gmd hide soft keys run it and select hide soft keys keys and setup your quick nav bar ..my suggestion is to use the pro version of gmd and set navigation control's to none and then use udn pro as your navbar which seems to work better for me

Works great, but how do you get the new nav bar to push everything up when on the bottom? Right now I have it set to 20px so it doesn't interfere with much, but it conflicts with my keyboard from time to time...

Did you guys lose menu buttons on some apps after installing these? My menu buttons for Voice and Trillian for instance have vanished and the menu button for the bar doesn't work on most apps for me.
Edit: Never mind, my issue was related to a busybox installation that was fixed by installing with a different installer. Oops.
Thanks for the info on this, it's very useful and stock is kinda lackluster.

I used the one from Faznx92's root tutorials, but I never had a busybox problem...
Something weird is going on, I got the menu problem again after rebooting I guess. Every time I uninstall busybox I get them back. I'll try the method OP used.
Edit: I keep getting the same problem. Each time I enable the auto hide soft keys app, I lose menu buttons in apps. Thr trick I found is to launch them all after booting then enable the auto hide. Just need to do that every time you reboot.
I would still love to be able to fix it for good
Freeze or uninstall stock "Soft Key Bar?"
Is it possible to remove it completly? I use auto hide soft keys but the stock Soft Key Bar interferes with it.

Do you guys know any way of swapping the default navbar with an aosp navbar? I want it to stay without hiding. I am mainly missing the recent apps button in the default navbar.
Thanks a lot!
You can disable the navbar with gravity box and use pie controls. That's what I do
Use UDN lite. Its far better and has more customization in the free version.

other than using the power button to turn it on, and crossing my fingers that this will get re-enabled in Android 4.5/5 around July/August, no :/
Also annoyed that the auto-brightness+ setting is now gone, but that at least was fixable through the Lux app.
Brightness button did not disappear on mine. Sprint S4
Any solution for the home button?
It's a world wide issue with all tw KitKat updates.

Couple alternatives. Wanam with Xposed could fix it. Also, a different launcher would let you set it too.

Thx bud,
I don't think that the prob is from the launcher, as it doesn't work with other launchers neither (I don't use TW, also it is working normally with s-view cover opened).
I have Wanam with xposed, but don't find any option like that... could you help me out? Thx a lot!
I found another strange issue, don't know if you have it , too. If I deactivate auto-unlock when I open s-view cover, it still unlocks when I open it... even after restart.
Edit: Found the solution for other issue: Nils Notification was set to always unlock when cover opened, nothing to do with rom... My fault

In Wanam, under System, there is a section for Long Home key behavior, can you not, Launch S Voice from there?
I use Google Now, and this is how I launch that.
As for S-view, I can't help with that, I dont have that.

Disable Home Button Completely

Hello, all. I'm trying to disable the home button. I've tried everything I've read and searched up, it's a no-go. It doesn't wake the phone which is halfway there but it still functions after the lockscreen. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

let's me see
It didn't work for any of the capacitive buttons nor the home. But I'm already good with the capacitives through another method. Hardware home seems impenetrable. Anything else?
All right. I finally got it! I edited gpio-keys.kl (separate from the rest of the buttons from down there for some reason) and I added a # in front of key 172 HOME and saved it.

Nav Button Swap? Extra menu button?

Has anyone seen a way to swap the soft Nav buttons around yet via Xposed or any other route? Also anyway to add a quick menu on the bottom right like the Euphoria Rom has for the Nexus 6?

Thank you! Now I just have to get the steps to install Xposed!
Get rid of those nav buttons altogether, and get some pie. You can have all sorts of buttons.

Is there a way to force auto hide or hide on demand??? And how do you remove them alrogether???
Never liked the idea of pie it seemed cumbersome. And half the time i accidentally hit the area to launch the pie..

I used to be indifferent about Pie, until I actually tried it. Now I can't live without it. It's so much easier to just place your finger along either side of the screen, or the top and bottom, and have your nav buttons come up. Especially on larger screens. I also like having a "clean" screen, so the more UI items I can hide, the better.
What's the recommended pie app?

Gravity box has it, or you can grab the standalone app in Play Store.
I use an app from play store called "back button" and have a semi transparent back and notification drop button on the right side. I can't quite hit the back button comfortably. (see pic)

The link you provided is what I'm currently using. Works great. Read the thread though. Someone flashed this then tried xposed. Not sure what he/she did on xposed, but I believe it caused issues.
