[Q] Need Some advice about bootloader

Hi All.
I need some advice on weather i should upgrade my boot loader.
I am on the old boot loader pre-knox on my i9505.
Apart from the knox flag (warranty Void) are there any other reasons I should not upgrade my bootloader ?
also I have heard that I wont be able to use older roms once I upgrade the bootloader (Jelly Bean roms) is that true ?

Having an oldbootloader is fine since you can just flash back to 4.2.2 if anything happen to your phone (Warranty) incase you wanna send it for repair. and If you flash the latest bootloader then you can no longer downgrade to 4.3 and there is a chance you can Void your warranty . But if you dont care about warranty then feel free to flash the newbootloader If you wanna know more about knox then feel free to read it from here. Goodluck.

Hi ,
Once you upgrade your bootloader is not possible to go back to 4..2.2 (or 4.3)
You upgrade your bootloader if:
Flash a stock rom 4.3 and higher
you do not upgrade your bootloader if:
root , install custom recovery and flash a custom rom , there are a few good rom based in samsung stock 4.3 and 4.4.2 you can try them see if you like them and if you don't you can always flash stock 4.2.2 and be as you were
Ok, so essensialy i can't downgrade the bootloader to 4.2.
but a official 4.2.2 firmware (without knox) will work on a 4.4 bootloader ??? (again i don't care about knox working or not)

It has been done to 4.3 in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2744061
they have flashed a 4.3 ROM without bootloader over a 4.4 ROM so the result is a 4.3 rom with a 4.4 bootloader

HI ,
Mate if you flash with Odin or OTA (kies) you will change the bootloader , ok? so once you have a 4..4 bootloader installed there is no way to install back a 4,2,2 stock ( official ) firmware , 4.4.2 official firmware includes 4.4.2 bootloader and flashing an older bootloader than the one you have is not possible (yet)
your options are:
4.2.2 bootloader
stay there do nothing
Upgrade to official 4.4 and not be able to downgrade to 4.2.2 official
root , install CWM and install any custom rom you want ( 4.2.2 , 4.3 or 4.4.2 and 4.4.4 ) and if you do not like any of them go back to official 4.2.2
Once you upgrade to official 4.4.2 there is no way to go back to official 4.2.2 , the only way to go back to 4.2.2 would be with a custom rom

If i understood right, you are saying that can be done if i flash a custom rom as intermediate step between official 4.4 and official 4.2 ??

No . I did not say that
Once you are in an official 4.4.2 firmware , the only way to use a 4.2.2 rom would be by flashing an un official 4.2.2 custom rom

Samsung Galaxy S4 I337 cannot find latest update 4.4.4

Hey guys,
My brother has the S4 i337 model and he's on 4.4.2
This phone is unlocked and he's using Tmobile on it.
For some reason it cannot find 4.4.4 via OTA and Kies
Is this because it's on tmobile or this model didn't get 4.4.4 yet.
Do I need to root it and flash a rom on it?
Thanks

Some models of the Samsung Galaxy S4 just didn't get the update, for instance my i337 didn't even get the 4.4.2 Kitkat update and was stuck on JellyBean. Your best bet is to just flash a 4.4.4 Rom on it. Clears out the bloated stock software.

that's really lame
So to make sure I do this the right way
I have to root the phone first
then install custom recovery
then flash rom right?
Or does the boot loader need to be unlocked?
Any rom recommendations?
I'd like for it to be stock so it's stable since my brother needs this for testing purposes

Yes correct, but if your boot loader is locked then you're going to need to download SafeStrap Recovery for locked bootloaders. Then once you have installed that, there's only very limited amount of Roms you can install because of the kernel, if you find a ROM that changes the kernel your phone won't boot. But a ROM that is fully working is called "GoldenEye ROM" its a 4.4.2 ROM but is really clean, stock, and clears out all that bloated nonsense. There's no 4.4.4 Roms for locked bootloaders yet.
