[Q] Disabled wifi disconnect on poor Internet connection speed - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

One very irritating "feature" on my note 3 is it's automatic network disconnect when it thinks the internet connection speed is poor. Is there any way to override this automatic disconnect? Particularly since there seems to be a well known bug with the galaxy range wifi network which thinks the connection speed is poor even if there is nothing wrong with the wifi signal or Internet connection speed.

Try this.

Unfortunately the wifi connection dropping issue seems to be highly dependant on your router.
Most people with the problem (including me) solved it with a different/newer router.
If you have spare time you could waste it ticking/unticking boxes in the wifi menu .. & THEN change your router lol

No it is os bug. I have the same issue on newest update

I am having the same issue on a corporate wireless network behind a proxy. It will connect, perform the connection speed test and then disable the network due to the connection speed being slow.
I am able to connect to a WiFi network on a secondary connection which does not go through the proxy. Both connections are on the same network.

Yes.... obviously an OS bug but we are stuck with it currently.
The information people need is how to COPE with the bug. I changed my router & no more problems so there's router's that will stop the issue occurring.

[Q] Wifi

is anyone having wifi issues where games disconnect and downloads have to be restarted alot?
Its neva happened to me using wifi, are you using other things at the same time? PS3? PC? I know my xbox tends to disconnect if im downloading somthing on the pc

Having the same issue
I don't have to be downloading anything, the phone could just be sitting there and the WIFI disconnects even with a app like SKYPE running in the back ground. My current internet is 20 meg down with 4 meg up and of all the devices this is the only one that disconnects or has any kind of connection issues.
Happens about 10 times a day. So annoying

Yes, I get this with my PLAY.
No other devices have this problem in my house. Stable connection that is on all the time.
Really annoying in Rainbow 6, particulary since it doesn't seem to save your stats with you disconnect because of a Wi-Fi droput.
Also sometimes have problems when it comes out of sleep mode, have to turn off wifi, then on again on the PLAY.
Very annoying.
Could it be to do with the security settings on your routers? Mines set to WPA2 PSK with a 13 character password and its never dropped connection. Or could it be the make of your routers? Mines a Netgear router. If a few people post there setup maybe we can find a similarity between them and find out if it's the phone, router, setup or all of them that's the problem.

The distance you are to the router makes a big difference. I think the wifi receiver on the play is weaker then other devices.

Yes. I havent updated yet, I'm hoping that 2.3.3 will fix it.
It says I'm connected yet stops working. I have to turn off the wi-fi then turn it back on to get it working again.

I have the same security on mine. The router is wireless n from my provider. It ie a router modem in one.
I did back when I was on 2.3.2. It was so annoying. I could have 2 computers, an iPad, and my Play connected to the same router and only the Play would disconnect continually.
adb shove iPad2post.apk to /forum/thread
I have the same problem with 2.3.3 the wifi just keep disconnecting is really annoying. Does any one know if this is a bug or a real design or hardware problem that wont be fixed wit updates?
It's wifi range isn't as far reached as other devices.

[Q] Nexus 4 Wi-Fi issues.

First - Hi all, long time reader but this is the first time I've needed to start a thread - so sorry about my first post being a problem/Q!
I've not had my Nexus 4 long, but have got some pretty annoying Wi-Fi issues. I've searched for answers but it seems that people have different Wi-Fi problems and I just wanted to see whether my issue was a common one and, if so, is there a fix on the horizon?
My issue is that I can connect to some routers but not to others (work, home, most open networks)... when I connect it simply says "saved, secured with WPA/WPA2" but wont then connect.
Phones running stock 4.2.1 with franco kernel r28 and the things I have tried are:
Resetting routers
Assigning static IP address
Wi-Fi direct from my Nexus 7
Cleared cache from recovery
changed the Wi-Fi band from 'Auto' to 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz
Flashed new kernel
Very frustrating and because of my signal the lack of Wi-Fi has made me go back to my old phone while I wait for a fix... which connects perfectly to the networks (S3 running CM 10.1)
Is this a 4.2.1 issue - as seems to be the consensus with other Wi-Fi issues or possibly a hardware issue?
Thanks for any info!
There's one fix you've not tried which might work for you (it didn't for me). You would have to be rooted though, which is going to system/etc/dhcpcd and changing the permission on dhcpcd-run-hooks to read and execute from "others". This help some people out but turns out for me that my router isn't compatible with my phone. (DSL-2780).
I've noticed that some of the mobile devices(eg iPhone 3gs, SGS2) are quite sensitive to wireless channel which your router/ap broadcast on.
Try manually switch to channel 6 or 8 that solved my issue - I don't believe in incompatible routers usually problems are related to config.
It is more complicated with an access to the public WiFi as you can not modify the setup.

I have tried this on the routers which I am able to change the channel of and it didn't change anything.

Just to update.
I've now tried this and still can't connect to the affected Wi-Fi networks, probably going to have to wait for 4.2.2 to see if that fixes it...
I had troubles connecting to my wifi network here in my house, which worked pretty good with my galaxy nexus, what i did and worked was deactivating the option "avoid poor connections" in wifi advanced settings, you should give this a try
Fixed it for me

Thanks Chad, it was driving me crazy the constant data drops I had when trying to listen to streamed audio in XiiaLive Pro. Which worked flawlessly with my old HTC Desire.
Did as you said, and perfect now.

I too have wifi issues with my N4. We have several phones at home - an HTC Aria and believe it or not the SGS1, SGS2 and SGS3!
All of them connect with no problems. My brand new N4 will see the router but refuses to connect until I toggle wifi on/of serveral times in succession, sometimes 6-8 times!
I have avoid poor wifi disabled but it does not help
I really hope El Goog fixes this asap as it is very frustrating.
I've had this issue forever. Android phones hate low or overcrowded signal. Though my nexus 7 always works fine. Makes me think it is the lack of WiFi antenna strength

Phone keeps dropping out of wifi

Hey Guys, this issue has been bugging me for quiet some time:
I have been using the Soft Access Point function of windows 7 via my wlan card for a long time and it didn't really give me any problems until recently.
It goes like this:
I activate the network, my phone connects. So far so good. But it keeps dropping out and reconnecting to mobile network all the time. That happened with other devices like my Netbook as well, but never this frequent and only when I wasn't actively using the connection. When I got the nexus 4 it started happening more often. And in the recent days/weeks very frequent. Sometimes only minutes after connecting. Also when the connection is in use, even during VoIP calls.
But I'm not sure whether it's a problem with the phone or the network setup... Any ideas?
Oh yeah, I'm running unrooted stock and the PC is Win 7 ultimate x64
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I forgot to mention: To fix it, I have to disable and then enable the network again. It always shows as still active on the PC but doesn't show on the phone before I do so.

Anyone?
Still having this issue...
Sry for multiple posts btw.. Don't think I can combine them...

[Q] note 3 octa wifi

I have a problem with this new note 3 wifi connection. It says checking for wifi quality before connecting which is annoying. Because where the signal is weak it will automatically disconnect which is not the case with my s4 which connects and stays connected weak signal or not. Anyway to disable that in the note 3? The wifi quality check...
I had a similar problem.
It was trying to connect the it dropped off saying there is a problem with the connection.
The only way I solved this is to use static ip instead of DHCP.
It works fine since then.
Static ip is when you set up a new connection and you choose advanced.

Slow and inconsistent wifi on KitKat

Hi all
So I have the the Poland official kitkat rom
Not sure though the problem started from then
Anyways the thing is the connection speed I have at the house is 8mb/s
And from all the devices I get a straight and consistent 7mb/s
Ex ipod pc galaxy s2/s3
Except for my note 3, it hardly gets to 3mb/s
(Using speedtest app)
And always goes like 0.5mb/s to 1 and changes unstable
Searched alot and tried everything but none got me to a solution
Ex in advanced settings in wifi removing the tick
Removing the powersaving wifi in the service code
Looking for further help
Thank You

Up. As I face exact same issue.

- Change connection type to static on phone
- Reset router
- Manually add phone's MAC adress to router
Tried any of these?

Keep the phone wifi setting default, this could be the router end issue. Like other said reset the router and then see. If not solve, in router setting make the wifi channel from auto to 6, 11 or 13. From DHCP give your phone a fixed IP. After all done when connected to wifi, go to setting and press your connected wifi it will popup with a status window, check the link speed what its showing.
*** From my personal experience DO NOT trust the Speedtest mobile app. Mine internet is like 5mbps but many time it showed over 20mbps download speed.
