Was wondering if any one else has had this issue. I've been noticing that turning GPS off doesn't seem to shut it off. When I checked my battery stats yesterday, I noticed GPS was on all day. Even tho I turned it off, and even the toggle said it was off. On top of that, When I say "Hi Galaxy", S-Voice turns on, even tho I have it disabled. If I turn the phone off, it all stays off. It's kind of annoying having to turn the phone off after using one of these apps. I checked location settings and all of that, it is all disabled.

Go to Settings -> WiFi -> Advanced and uncheck 'Always allow scanning' and see if that does anything.

Wifi Sleep when locked not working
Hello, I have a problem, my wifi sleep policy is turned on to "when screen turns off" but when my phone is locked, the wifi is still on! I just pressed the lock button after 5-10 mins but the wifi is still on.
How long does it take for you for the wifi to turn off?
Any suggestions?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Not a suggestion as such but I'm reading that using the wifi sleep policy is detrimental to the battery life. Can't confirm as I'm still experimenting.
Yeah battery life is destroyed if you use WiFi sleep policy. Set it to never for best battery life. It's counter intuitive.
But to answer your question, I think it takes closer to half hour for sleep policy to kick in. You would notice WiFi off if you woke up in the morning etc or after long periods like hours of inactivity.

I'm having the opposite issue. As soon as my screen goes off I lose WiFi connectivity and get disconnected on adbWireless which is a huge pain for me when I'm developing... Maybe I'll enable sleep policy and see if that fixes my issue! Lol! I'm on stock 2.3.1

There's an option in Settings>Application Settings>Development to not turn the screen off when charging, that should solve your adbWireless problem so long as your phone is charging.

this is exactly how it works on the Galaxy S
there is an option in settings to keep WiFi on when the screen is Off in the SGS
but not sure if the NS has the same option (still waiting for my phone to arrive)

That's only if I'm doing adb over USB. I hate wires
I went to my wifi setting to make my wifi sleep once my screen shuts off but the setting doesn't stay. Is there a fix to this by any chance? Want my wifi to always sleep when my screen shuts off......

What do you mean it doesn't stay, it changes the setting to something else? When you have wifi set to sleep on screen off, it doesn't sleep immediately once the screen goes off, it takes awhile. I use "sleep when screen off" and I get great battery life.
Wait so is it good that my wifi turns off when my phone sleeps or not?

it depends on what you want
if you want to maintain connectivity then it's no good
if you want to save power, then it is good

Once I turn my screen off than turn it back on after a while my setting goes back to never even after I change the setting to shut wifi off once I shut off screen. Weird bit it does. I read in another forum that it saves battery but my setting keep changing back.

I've the same issue. I've try various app from the market for fix that, but all is the same. It's a hardware problem? The router will can cause this problem?
Thanks
Running a Nook Color with CM7.1 stable. Kind of an odd issue here, I have two different Bluetooth GPS devices, and when they are paired to the Nook and I turn my screen off and then back on, it loses the connection. The only way to reconnect the devices is to restart the Nook, as it fails to connect after the screen is brought back up. I have found that if I have the Nook plugged in for power, this issue does not happen. I have tried multiple GPS apps, reflashed CM7.1 multiple times, but still have no success unless I have the Nook plugged in, or I just ensure the screen doesnt go to sleep.
I really need this to work, as I'm using this as a pilot, and I can't have the screen on the entire flight as it will drain the battery quickly. I swore it used to work before, but I know I had issues with it, and maybe now realize what was causing those issues. On a side note, my friend has also tested everything I have done, but his works consistently and reliably regardless if he leaves the screen off, or turns it on and off repetitively. Hopefully someone may have an idea!!
Thanks in advance.
So noone has any thoughts or ideas at all?
Well seeing as it doesn't happen when your plugged in that would make me think that it has something to do with the fact that WiFi turns off when the screen is turned off. The Bluetooth and WiFi are on the same module i do believe. The default setting for WiFi is to stay on all the time while plugged in and turn off when the screen is turned off while on battery.
My suggestion would be to turn the WiFi to stay on all the time and see if that changes anything. Go to WiFi settings --> menu --> advanced --> WiFi sleep policy -->never. That would be my suggestion, hope that works for ya!

That's what I was thinking too. It seems that when NC goes into deep sleep Bluetooth will lose connection. By removing deep sleep you should be able to stay connected, although your battery will drain faster than with deep sleep on, it should have a better life with screen off than on.
Well I appreciate both of your responses. However, I should have mentioned that I do already have Wi-Fi set to always stay on/never sleep. Any other suggestions?
I have started having an issue where wifi turns off when Nexi has screen off. So no emails, updates, no nothing... until I turn on screen and then wifi reconnects. For example, plugged in to charge about midnight last night. At some point, it turned off wifi, missed a dozen emails.
It was not like this in the beginning. Is there some setting I accidentally changed? So app changed something?
No root, standard loader, etc. About as vanilla as it comes.
I'm stumped. Any ideas??
Thanks!
Settings -> wifi -> settings (the 3 dots on the upper right corner) -> advanced -> keep wifi on during sleep
Is the "Never" option ticked?
Yep, that did it. Don't know how it got switched off, but it did.
I notice that whenever the phone is charging the display never shuts itself off despite being set to 1 minute. It happens in Stock and now in FreeGS4 v2.0.0.
I cannot find a setting to change that.
FreeGS4 at least disables the wakeup on charge so it does not sit half the night with the screen burning in but I would like to know if there is a way to enable the display timeout while charging.

First, check whether Developer Options in settings is ON/Off and if ON make sure "Stay Awake" is not checked.
If dev options are not ON, might try turning them on and see if that fixes anything.

Thanks!
Stay awake was checked in Dev Options. Exactly what I was looking for.
Hi Guys, I am losing my mind! every-time I reboot my phone, the location does turn itself OFF! (from being ON) , sometimes it also happens when I turn it on, and in about a day, it turns off!
Things I tried so far:
Turned OFF places on the dialer (someone suggested this fixed it for them)
Turned OFF "Optimize Settings" in Battery setting
Turned OFF "Adaptive Battery"
Anyone has the same issue?
Bixby Routines by chance? I had a friend with a similar issue and this turned out to be the case.
I have the same issue. Cant figure it out. Mostly only when i'm stationary and connected to good wifi.
I've noticed this as well, though I haven't been able to figure out under what circumstances it happens. Just find location turned off seemingly at random.
