i have a sprint galaxy s4 and as we all know sprint likes to stomp on the brakes once you start using data is there a way around this and/or to get better signal on the device?
im a noob so go easy on me
thanks
Sprint doesn't "stomp on the brakes". They really don't throttle. I've downloaded 7 GBS today on 4G at 15mbps download and speeds have not decreased.
And no way to increase the signal from.the phone. Has to come from sprint.

Agree with ^that^
I've downloaded tons of stuff on 4G and speed is constant, for me where I am.
Im in the seattle area. I rarely ever get above 1.5 mb. My 3g/4g drops randomly for up to 5 min sometimes. Mostly happens in the evening. This never happened with my s2. Speeds always sucked. But dropping my data all together, never. Btw. Im stalk rooted only running the hotspot hack.

I had little to no service at my home for almost 2 weeks where I would usually get full bars but as of yesterday I get full.signal again and my 3g speeds have never been better. 2.5/1.2 mbs. Sprint seems to be getting things together

i hope they do that soon here. Thats how 3g was before the EVO and Epic came out with "4g"
although 4g definitely is a lot better these days...i get 8mb/s with a ping of ~50...Its NEVER dipped below 190 until a week ago.
Whatever this network vision thing is, im liking.
Now hopefully they can fix the problem where i go from 3 bars to 0 when i send a text or make a call and then get my bars back AFTER i hang up -_-

I would love ping to drop to that level, more than 50%. Never seen it less than 100 on any test, anywhere.

I was in Corpus Christi, TX the last few days. I remember the first night I got about 1.2Mbps dl and the next days or two I could barely get 100kbps. On the last day the speeds went back up. I'm pretty sure it was just my modem being lame (EG22).
Judging from similar topics in the past few months, this improvement seems to be the trend.

I don't think they have anywhere to go but up...its at rock bottom already.
If I remember right, a few months ago my signal and speed turned to complete crap. I tether while I'm at work so I can see the difference, and it was SLOOOOOWWWWWW.
About a month after that all of a sudden my 3g speeds jumped up and, most of the time, it's like I'm using the internet at home (aside of the random hiccups in speed). Now I'm hoping for 4g soon in my area

Pretty sure that is the Radio in your phone crashing and has nothing to do with Sprint's network. What Radio and ROM are you using? There have been known problems regarding this with the Gingerbread radios... EG22 still has this problem on my phone although not as frequently.

Its been like that for a while. I'm running stock ec05, but I tried the gb modems andthe same problem. Its really annoying :/ likejus a little wile ago I left my house and its sunny as **** in nyc right now and I called my friend and all my bars dropped and the call was lost -_- I had to toglle airplaneon and off to get it to stop

I had to use DEFY BASEBAND SWITCHER to get my 3G working.
Dont use it if you have 3G, but this must cause of your carrier. (I think)

i agree with jouse its probably your carrier, i did get an increase in speed but it was never that low, it was like between .8 and 1.5 mbps stock to atleast 2.5 mbps cm7 though I don't think its an issue of not having 3G cuz EDGE doesn't go that fast
It used to be much faster. its weird Going back to cm7 so i'll get the speed back anyway. Thanks guys.

I using 2 sim cards from Claro Dominicana, I pay around US$ 0.64 for 24 hours of internet. Very CHEAP!!
With one of the sim cards I use, I just get 256kbps, I dont know why its limited like that... the other one gets all 3G speed (up to 6 mbps at nights) , both of them are 3G and I dont why that happens.
Check if your carrier limits the usage of the 3G speed.
I just found a spot near my local Publix where I was getting 3 and 4 bars of signal with WiMax, which I rarely ever see in my city.
I speed tested and was consistently getting 16-18mbps down and around 3mbps up.
I'm curious to see how that compares with what everyone else is getting on Sprint's 4g network.

Sprint's 4g is pretty good here in Cincinnati. I get about 6-7mbs down and 1 up at my apartment with one bar, but when I go outside I get about 10-12mbs down and 2 up with 3-4 bars.
Here is a screenshot. I wasn't on wifi, I was in the middle of a parking lot.
I wasn't getting 3mbps up here, but I have before.

Not only that, even 3G improved in my area.

This is good to hear. Hopefully Sprint is staying good on their word and largely improving their 3G this year.
Especially looking forward to the Galaxy Nexus and LTE, even though I'm not in one of the cities getting it first.

Not necessarily, wimax upload speeds were capped. No official word that it's been removed though or made higher above 1.5. Any of you claiming higher have a screenshot?

So i found this thread that says S3 and Evo LTE only works data and voice.
is there way to work data and voice same time?
i do a lot calls and i need to check mails and etc.
Not on 3G with the S4, however, voice and LTE work if you have LTE service in your area.

I drive semi it is more productive when you can look up street view roads that may have weight limits height restrictions as you are calling the company letting then know about when you will arrive.we as drivers only have a certain amount of time to drive a day.thus makes my day that much more productive. Ten extra mins could be whether I make it to the next town or not.

You can roam on Verizon 3g by flashing a different PRL and using Roam Control. There are already a bunch of threads all over XDA that can help you with this. I would start by searching
Sprint doesn't throttle their 3g service. They just have a really, really slow 3g network. There's no mod that can increase your data speed because it's wholly dependant on Sprint's network in your area. You'll generally get better 3g speeds with TW roms rather than AOSP roms, if that helps at all. Otherwise, you just have to grin and bear it until 4g rolls out in your area. I'm in the same boat as you, by the way - my 3g is g*dd*mn awful and I don't have 4g yet. I'll usually flash the 00001 PRL if things get really bad, but never for very long because I have 5 lines on my account and I can't afford to have Sprint cancel me for too much roaming.

I guess I always assumed that it was because of Samsung's proprietary bits that AOSP roms don't have, but the situation on AOSP roms has definitely improved as of late (for me, at least). If you're getting better data speeds on AOSP roms than TW roms, I'm totally jealous of you

Ah, I see. Or maybe I'm fooling myself. At least when I browse the Internet (using CM stock browser) and the YouTube app, it seems to load much faster. But I haven't been on stock in a while, so I may not remember
If you're in a crappy data coverage area nothing will help. But you could change the r/w permissions of the throttle folder to read only which contains a numeric file that I delete. Seems to help ymmv.
Make sure that lte is coming to your area, if it's gonna be awhile then leave the 3g is horrible but I haven't had the pleasure of using it since 4g lte rolled out a year ago. Once connected to lte on this phone or the s3 you will never see 3g ever in town.
