[Q] U8800 bricked, update fails... - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hey guys,
I'm experiencing some serious case of bricking here. It is most probably caused of accidentally installing wrong .zip file that is actually not for u8800. When i try to go into recovery or regularly boot it up, i see the infamous green screen with blue and red blocks. My only possible interaction with phone could be done by pink screen cuz i think it's working.
Anyway, most of forums i've been on states getting the original image folder and putting the official Android 2.3.5 UPDATE.app to dload folder in my sd card, then booting up or going into download mode (which both do the same thing, starts the update process) without the battery attached and the phone connected to the pc via an USB cable. The only problem is whenever i try this, the update stucks on around 30% of the bar and when this happens, the red light switches on and off more frequently than before indicating there was something wrong with the process.
Am i doing something wrong here? What do you guys have else to offer? There is almost no forum left in xda, modaco and androidhelp that i didn't check out. I'm going to start throwing up threads here. Please help me!

If you can enter pink screen, you can try fullflash :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1971266

I've already come across with these threads before, pointing out the only solution is via linux terminal but currently i have no access to any OS other than Windows. Is there any other way without installing Ubuntu?

I decided to do it using Virtualbox but i had some problems specifying the directory of the .bin file (It's on desktop)
Here is the example command given:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo dd if=/media/Data/u8800/HUAWEI_U8800_FullFlash.bin of=/dev/sdc
My command:
[email protected] ~ $ sudo dd if=/home/myusername/Desktop/HUAWEI_U8800_FullFlash.bin
Am i coding wrong, incomplete or it cannot simply be done in Virtualbox?

Just follow the tutorial.
you must type "of=/dev/device_name" in command
with "device_name" is the device name alocated to the U8800. It can be "sdb", "sdc", "sdd", "sde", etc.

Hey sorry for resurrecting this thread. It's just that i previously tried everything including linux terminal but it just didn't do it and i brought it to its maintenance service for repairs. You can close this thread now, nothing to discuss here. But before that, could you give me some ROM suggestions to install to my newly working phone. I'd appreciate if you specify the reasons to use them too. You can send it via personal message. Thank you in advance.

Hi, Now I am using AuroraSP + , very fast, stable and smooth, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2295318 very good for daily use.
MIUI V4 is good ROM too, I am going to test it this weekend and use it as my daily ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2029969
If you like JB, you can try coldblue_´s CM 10.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337235 , but the ROM isn´t perfect.

Hello again, did you have time to try out MIUI? What are your impressions?
I am finally in possession of my phone once again since the last time i received my phone back from its technical service, dumbass engineers nulled my IMEI after they fixed bricked ROM problem. After i got it back, i thought i could fix IMEI problem if i switch ROMs and installed AuroraSP+. It was decent but didn't really had time to fully explore it as i immidiately sent it back. Ok got it to work,
okay my converter sux I got it .D if you could post more info to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4385729 your tutorial for Hero could be much more simpler...
and dont forget to give credits plx .D
best regards
I had mentioned your thread as a credit in my blog post. Maybe I will make it bold now . And I know it could be simpler. When I have time I could write a tool to insert the xml generated by Amber Nokia convertor into the SQL Lite databases directly without doing all the hacks i.e. merging a tutorial to convert NOkia->WM and then WM->Android. The WM bit isn't really necessary tbh.
Sorry I just noticed.. I forgot to include the link to your post and only included the modaco ones SOrry for that.. Done it now
iphone to htc hero???
anyone?
Almost there, but a little help needed please
Hi, have followed all the steps and got a saved copy of import.xml.
Next I connected the phone using the USB cable. (Didn't mount it as a USB device)
Then I opened Command Promt on my PC and changed to the android SDK tools directory.
Then I type "adb shell" (without quotes)
It says:
adb server is out of date. killing...
* daemon started successfully *
$
At this point the phone disconnects from HTC Sync and I have to end adb.exe (which appears twice) in windows task manager to get it to reconnect to sync.
Any suggestions please?
If it disconnects from HTC Sync, it's fine as long as you get the shell prompt

But then if I type "su" after the $ it says su: permission denied...

Maybe not. To be honest I'm starting to feel a bit out of my depth here. I don't really have any programming knowledge and haven't really used dos much before. I'll go and research 'rooting' now, but if you can come back with a quick instruction in the meantime that'd be great
Ok, so I've found various instruction for how to root my phone. Only problem is that they each seem to relate to what network I'm on. I was originally on T-Mobile, but paid to have it unlocked so I can use my 3 sim. Should I just use the instruction relating to T-Mobile? Sorry for so many questions, but I'm a bit worried about permanently wrecking the phone

Ok, if I use the instructions here (my ROM version is 2.73.+) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4525393&postcount=1 do you think it should be ok? I am a bit worried about the part where it says "flashrec is using an exploit that isn't patched yet in the current kernel used by HTC, however if/when HTC patches this, flashrec will stop working. So for now it's ok but a next version might have patched this, so keep this in mind !"

Newbie guide for install CM 7.2.0 on Motorola Flipside MB

Newbie guide for install CM 7.2.0 on Motorola Flipside MB
This is a compilation of info from other posts, so I collect it only to make somewhat easy to follow the process since it was somewhat messy to follow for me and would like to try to help others in the same case....
Please read well all other posts if You habe doubts, and, as always in this cases, do this process to flash under your own risk...
Please, if somebody may add help or correct these notes, please do, so it will be very gratefull!
0) If You had some mods or may be stuck, You would be able to return You FlipSide to stock by falsh the Moto SBF, follow the instructions on this post:
Froyo SBF and Bootloader for Flipside MB508 AT&T USA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227063
0.5) ( )Your FlipSide must be rooted in order to proceed, so check the info available, in my case I dont reber well but I believe that I used SuperOneClick Utility (and also please check the post #9 below for other clues!) (Thanks jorgerivera! )
1) Install 2ndInit_Installer Recovery in Flipside
Download the recovery file of this posT;
2ndInit_Installer
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471549
Then unrar it, and follow the instructions below (Thanks to WinSUK)
You should be able to install it like this:
- Extract everything in the "data" folder into a folder called "bootmenu" on your sdcard
- Then use either "adb shell" from a command prompt, or Terminal Emulator on the phone should work:
Code:
su
cp -R /sdcard/bootmenu /data/bootmenu
cd /data/bootmenu
chmod 0755 *
./install.sh
And it should say "Install complate...."
You can also remove the folder(s) if you want:
Code:
rm -R /data/bootmenu
rm -R /sdcard/bootmenu
Maybe try "rm -R /system/bootmenu" then install it
Then to get into it, reboot the phone and once the notification light turns on, hit volume down
If there some trouble, maybe try "rm -R /system/bootmenu" then install it... and if there still trouble, please read the post of recovery from this link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1471549&page=2
2) Install Leidaxin CM 7.2.0 rom (last version available at this post is CyanogenMod 7.2.0 (Android 2.3.7)(2012.04.09)
Donwload the rom from this link:
link : http://www.mediafire.com/?h6rt2y995mgwxv2
and then follow the instructions to install:
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Copy *.zip to sdcard
2. Reboot your device in BootMenu/ClockWork
Turn ON the FlipSide and when you see the Notification LED Light BLINK inmediatly press VolumeDown Key for 1 second and release and after 1-2seconds the Recovery Android Bootmenu <v1.1.8> will appear.
So use Volume Up & Down keys to move and Power key to select the option...
Go to Recovery menu then select Custom Recovery
3. Then go to wipe data/factory reset and the do wipe cache partition)
4. Then go to Install zip from sdcard and instal the rom *zip
5. Install the file gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip on the phone so you would got Android Market/Play store available!
(Thanks hainesbe! )
6. Reboot
I wrote this in order to try to help others since the info is splitted in various diferent posts, so if have doubts please read this posts in order to get info from other people experiences with this rom.
Thanks & credits to all the people, specially Laidaixin, WinSuk and other that work until the point at today, so, if You could help will be very gratefull since seems no too much details pending for have this rom fully working.
Best regards to all!

It's a problem with the current port...
You can get around it by checking "Use only 2G networks" in Settings > Wireless & networks > Mobile networks. Won't be able to use 3G though

Thank You for your kind worddds and I am really happy that it help a friend around here...
Well, by now I didnt use my flipSide since I moved to a Captivate Glide, but I passed it to my wife that wants and likes it since is nice size and form factor, and after 2 weeks since I passed to her, she is really happy and loves it...
I hope that this move in dev for the Flip could gain some impulse and I also very gratefull to Laidaxin for such great work.
Best regards to all!
Thx very much, you are a good guy!
Hi xaser66,
I followed your instructions and they helped a lot. I only had a bit of trouble with step 1, since my phone was not rooted. I think you should note that you need to root before this step (specially if you have just completed step 0, which would "un-root").
Since I work on a Linux workstation 99.99% of the time, I used the Linux script version of ZergRush by paxchristos updated by amishxda from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20869699.
However, the original (windows) zergRush by DoomLord (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582) or a relatively new version of SuperOneClick should work as well.
So, I think that might be your 0.5 step.
Anyway, once I rooted, I found your instructions very precise and helpful.
¡Pura vida y muchas gracias!

Well, by now I only look around here very few since I moved to a i927 glide (but still like to look from time to time, in order to follow the great work of Laidaxin, Winsuk and other great friends around here, so Ilike to check about if may be possible that ICS may come to the faithful FlipSide... since in fact mine was in hands of my wife since some time ago and by today she is very happy with the little Flip)
So, thank You and thanks to all again!... (...and is great and surprised to see another Tico around here! :-D )
Best regards to all!

You all have brought new life to my little flipside. (My daughter is dying for an Android of her own) Once I put the gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip on the phone it's running like a champ!
From a noob of android ROMs, this guide was REALLY helpful!

(Edit Actually, xaser66, would you mind adding that as an optional 3rd step? Getting the google market was pretty important (at least to me) so I could hand it off to my daughter.
Again, thank you for this guide, it was VERY helpful!
(Still waiting the 5 minute Noob waiting period before I can post this edit. ; )

Help with executing commands in adb; stuck at ".../bin/sh...No such file..." error

Help with executing commands in adb; stuck at ".../bin/sh...No such file..." error
I am out of all tricks now for reviving my Note which boots into download and recovery mode. I conclude that from what I have experienced, that factoryfs is the partition which fails to take any write commands when I odin a ROM, as it gets stuck at the factoryfs message. I have tried all the flashing of kernels and ROMs with no luck.
Working with adb seems to be the only option, to configure the partitions on my device manually. The big issue is that I am not able to execute "adb shell" command using Forest1971's guide.
So far, I have had no luck going beyond the "exec -/system/bin/sh...:No such file or directory...(2)" error message, when I type the "adb shell" command.
Can someone with the know-how of how to work through adb help with this? This is my last effort of trying to recover my Note, and if it fails, I will have no choice but to sent the device out of the US. I dread sending my phone out of the country for repairs, as I don't know just how long it will be before it gets fixed and is shipped back to me.
Please do not suggest any flash options, because as I said, I have tried all there is to do with flashing - nothing has helped.
First see if you have a /system filesystem. Looks to me that it doesn't exist. See if you can type
Code:
$ cd /system
or
Code:
$ cd /system/bin
If it complains then there's your problem - you don't have a functioning /system. Maybe type mount and show your filesystems.
I know you asked for no flash suggestions, but have you tried making the device do a hard reset - when powered off hold down home, volume up while holding down power on then release power button when screen shows life. May be worth a shot, but looking like another ICS firmware/emmc issue from here... good luck.
[edit]
should have read your post more closely. Looks like you have no /system/bin/sh at all so can't fire up a shell, so you can ignore my initial suggestion.

I won't go the route of laughing and mocking you for saying that. I do think it's a very well put together device, but it just doesn't serve my needs of a big screen, the ability to be free...etc. By the way, you asked me to ignore your suggestion, so I did - FYI.

Yes, unfortunatelly i did everything as stated on adb, but had no luck. If ssc don't replace it, i will try using the memory blocks used by the "internal sd card".
You must try it anyway, there were some users that succesfully unbricked the phone.
Did anyone try this mk2efs command with -c option ON ??
Sorry Incesivekeith
I was out of connection for past 2 days.
We have to pull Mr Forest1971 for doing this.
Let me sum up :
parted is not able to solve your issue.
mk2efs is another formating tool that comes with CWM
You are stuck up in executing commands.
Now the idea of flashing the cwm kernel is fine. Did u try that ??
Mr Forest1971 :
Did you see Dr Sumralls comments for this bug.
''He says that we have to go for a full wipe. I have a tool but I dont know I couldnt share it.''

I asked you to ignore the initial suggestion as you've obviously not got any functioning recovery. You've not provided much info about how you got to this position, but in my similar situation I got out of it by successfully flashing a FULL WIPE factoryfs (LA4 in my case) and doing the factory reset as I mentioned in my first response. I lost a few GB of my eMMC storage but got a working device. May not help you, but may be useful info for others. Share and share alike. Good luck dude .

We tried the factory reset.
We tried the hard reset.
We cleaned the cache & whatnot...
Nothing helps.
I've tried to use the GUIDE: Recovering Recovery/Obtaining SKB
Of course we only option we have, because nothing was ever back up, connected to a computer. I downloaded unbumtu 12.04 and installed it onto my laptop.
The requirements:
-ubuntu 12.04
-micro USB cable
-paper clip ....
I also made sure I installed gcc, lsusb, libusb-1.0-dev, & libusb-1.0.x
I get it to show on the desktop ...
I type in: sudo su
Then: gcc apx.c -o apx -lusb-1.0
I end up with an errors.
If I remember correctly it says that line 4 and line 5 of EPPE code was in errors.
The another time it states...
Then it stats su: invalid option -- 'o'
I am by all no means a computer code writer, and hope someone will help me solve this issue.
I just can't afford sending the tablet back to Acer to be fixed.
I even tried flashing the information on the micro SD card, but I believe since his tablet wasn't connected ever to a computer things aren't running as smoothly as I would like.
I've downloaded nvFlash, blackthud3r, and many Roms.
I.ve even tried to flash a few with no luck. Mister Android has fallen and can't get up with the RED triangle and all.
I can get the tablet in Apx mode.
Also I can get the screen with the Fastboot...
I've tried all the tricks with the volume up and power button and toggle switch, AND/OR the volume down button and toggle.
But without the UIP or CPUID those items aren't doing me any good.
The tablet was only updated the old fashioned way. No customized anything.
Hubby mainly used it to get email and play pocker over the internet with it.
Not sure what other information you need, but I hope someone could get me out of this MISERY!
Been messing with it for over a week trying to read and get as much information about others having simular situations.
Thank you in advance & Hope to hear from you SOON!
We've even tried doing things in different computers...:crying:

Well, seeing it a stock tab, not a lot of options.
I would try this, here is a link where I gathered 4 500 ICS updates. Note that I named them with build numbers to keep things in order.
Rename one of the files to only "update.zip" (remove the build number in other words).
With the tab off, hold VOL+ and PWR until you see the update start to install, then release both.
Now, if one of them doesn't complete, then try the other. Hopefully one of them completes the install and boots the tablet.

I appreciate you getting back so quickly.
I've already tried these.
I also tried most of these from this web page.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1816560
Nothing seems to work.
There was a couple of them that would install about 25% but then android would keel over and the red triangle of death took over.
I would appreciate if you had any other suggestions, or if anyone else did.
There has to something I can do?!?
Well, without having the UID number, I think NVFlash is out of the question. Usually we get these quite simply when the tab is operating.
There is a Linux solution, to get UID, but I'm not a linux guy. There's a thread about UID, I think in the dev section. In there are steps to get it through Linux I believe.
With the UID, I think we can run TimmyDeans rollback tool. But as far as I know, you have to have the UID number.

Please post the the commands you run and the exact result you get, it is hard to tell what went wrong without knowing exactly what you did and exactly what results you got.
Just a copy of the terminal buffer as it is would be good.

I have posted code for two Windows variants as well, one using libusb-win32 and one using the winusb driver delivered by Acer.
It can be found in the [GUIDE] Recovering Recovery/Obtaining SKB thread.
solved thankyou all

Official Ubuntu Touch for Galaxy Tab 10.1 is here!

I've been following the progress on official Ubuntu Touch port to Galaxy Tab 10.1 for a while and today they have updated the wiki for a dedicated session and early build install instructions.
This is an early build, some things work, some things are unknown and wifi is work in progress.
Installation
1. Download the ubuntu preinstalled and the p4wifi specific cyanogenmod image from the unlock instruction section below.
2. Put both zip files onto your sdcard
3. Enter recovery mode and do a wipe data/factory reset
4. Flash in this order:
First the cyanogenmod image (e.g. cm-10.1-20130325-UNOFFICIAL-p4wifi.zip)
Then the ubuntu image (this may take a while)
5. reboot
fix screen pixel ratio (this will become obsolete once the config file is included by default):
1. download p4wifi.conf: http://ubuntuone.com/688wubidavYnvfKvBWV7cY
2. copy p4wifi.conf into /etc/ubuntu-session.d/
3. reboot
Unlocking instructions
link to images
1. Ubuntu stuff:

2. CyanogenMod image:

Thanks, friend! I'm gonna test it soon :good:
AW: Official Ubuntu Touch for Galaxy Tab 10.1 is here!
I tried it. Installation worked fine and the first start (reboot after install) also went fine. Can't test more things than boot up right now - no time so far. I'll have a look this evening.
But why are there already users exsisting an how do i log in?
Sent from my One S using xda app-developers app
They say it's a test-only version and you can only log in to guest account...
and if you read the ubuntu-part file's name it is "quantal-PREINSTALLED", which means it is an installed image of Ubuntu that was tested on some previous devices by Ubuntu devs...
it's my thought, though...

Yes. It's a tech demo. But it already looks nice. I hope development goes on quickly.

Wifi not working after returning image back to Cyanogenmod
I followed your instructions and got Ubuntu touch working. After playing around with it for a while I decided to go back to my Cyanogenmod rom. For some reason now I cannot turn on the wifi. It is the same image that was working before. Can you offer some advice or assistance?
Thanks
Can someone make a video of this running? I want to do it myself but can't find the 10.1's charger

I've installed it with no problems, just followed the instructions in the first post...
I'm now attempting to get screen pixel ratio fixed and wifi running, and then will upload a video to youtube (probably in the next few hours)
Sorry, but I just can't find etc\ubuntu-session.d\ and can't make a persistent local directory in /data/ ...
If anyone can help me with these problems, please tell me...
(I chmodded the userinit.sh file for wifi and tried to fix the screen pixel ratio, but couldn't find or create the directories to put them)...
I'll upload a video anyway...

Not sure why you're having this problem. Maybe try format everything before flashing back or use a nand backup if you have one?
I think we must put the p4wifi.conf into ubuntu-session.d folder in the quantal before we install the image, right?
The proof I can provide is that there are folders named ubuntu-session.d and data in the quantal, but they're extracted to somewhere else during installation...
Video coming soon...

My memory is a bit vague on this, but I think it's in the /ubuntu folder, as well as the rest of the filesystem. It confused the hell out of me when I had it on my Sensation, it seemed like there was an entire filesystem at the root of the storage, then another inside /ubuntu where everything seemed to be.
You could use the search in Nautilus to find it as well, just make sure it's searching all subdirectories
I had a problem adding the p4wifi.conf file to /etc/ubuntu-session.d/ folder. This is how I solved it.
My problem basically was that when using adb shell to access the device I was inside the android system. And you need to get inside the ubuntu-system.
My way to get shell access to the ubuntu-system was the following:
>adb root
>adb shell
You should now see something similar to [email protected]:/ #
Then enter:
>ubuntu_chroot shell
You should now see something similar to [email protected]:/#
You are now in the ubuntu-system.
to get the p4wifi.conf file into /etc/ubuntu-session.d I did the following:
>cd /etc/ubuntu-session.d
>echo -e "GRID_UNIT_PX=10\nQTWEBKIT_DPR=2.0\nFORM_FACTOR=\"tablet\"" | sudo tee p4wifi.conf
For some reason there is a space between " and tablet. This space should be removed! It seems as if the forum adds it when rendering my post.
Now for the changes to take effect you will need to reboot your device. You can do that by writing the following
>reboot
I hope this helped someone that just as me struggled to get the pixel-ratio fix applied to the system.
Thanks, my friend.
I'm gonna try this and then will upload a video...
if we can find the way to fix WiFi according to this post:

it will be awesome!
thanks again

Yeah I read about this post too, I'm a bit busy this week but maybe I'll try it out this weekend.
I finally fixed screen pixel ratio by flashing the .zip package linked in post 15 in this thread ... simply adb push it and flash using CWM (ubuntu won't erase CWM after being flashed)...
I'm now going to fix WiFi to upload a video that's worth seeing ...

I have tried this but no success Please share if anyone solves the wifi-issue.
---------- Post added at 03:38 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:33 PM ----------
Does iwlist work for anyone? For me it dosen't even recognise the command.
does 3G work on this?
3G doesn't work yet, but I'm testing the OS on my galaxy tab 3G
yeah, I too have tried putting userinit.sh file in /data/loca/ with no success... but note that you must put the file using ubuntu_chroot shell... did you try that?
maybe we can put the commands in afterflash-p4.zip and then flash it, like the way we solved the screen pixel ratio issue...
inform us if this method worked for you
