Bootloops after ROM flash - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, looking for some advice. I am trying to install GoldenEye 8.0 but getting boot loops. I was previously on 8.0 then flashed 9.0.3 (4.3). I had issues with data and was going to flash the mj5 modem, however before I could do that my external SD card appeared to corrupt.
So tried to flash back to 8.0, seemed to flash OK but bootlooped at Samsung logo on start up. Next I flashed prerooted XXMGA via odin which was fine, then tried flashing 8.0 again in recovery but same thing again when it started boot looping. Any one any ideas? I thought once you had flashed via Odin you were really starting afresh again but I can't seem to get passed this issue.

Sticking At Boot Logo On Every Custom ROM

I am getting stuck on any and every custom ROM no matter what kernel I install with it. It seems as though my device is not accepting system to be installed. I end up installing ROM and then when I try to boot I get a reboot 10 seconds later after failing to get past the Boot Logo and then I check file manager inside of TWRP and don't get anything inside of System folder along with boot folder no matter what ROM Or kernel. have attempted wiping everything through TWRP. Have attempted Odin back to stock(Which Boots Me Up Flawlessly But Happens Again When Installing Recovery Through Odin And Reinstalling ROM) and even happens when attempting to restore backup I have. Weird since Odin works but not ROM nor kernel boots me up. Started happening last night and continues to happen again and again and again now with zero success. Any ideas?

Also, when installing Rooted Stock ROM Odexed from within TWRP I get "Not Rooted" message from recovery but when installing DeOdexed I get "Incorrect Permissions, Do You Want To Fix" message. I have tried selecting yes AND no on both to no avail.

Really!? Not a soul has an idea!? Lol

I would suggest going back to stock with ODIN and then trying a different recovery. I've had no issues flashing many custom ROMs with OUDHS recovery.

I didnt have an issue whatsoever when I first obtained the device. Ia also getting the infamous "Get PIT Mapping" message when runnung ODIN. Looks like I just needs to repartition the device once I get my hands on the PIT file. Either way, I have gone to stock and tried all of the available recoveries I am aware of to no avail. Weird.

was having this ame issue when i first got my S4 and it was because my root was not sticking. get a SU.zip (easily found if you google it) and try flashing that before you flash anything and see if it helps. i am told this was an issue with earlier binarys being used in recovery but im by no means a dev so i could say for sure. also if your using TWRP make sure that when wiping your doing system, data, dalvik, cache.

[Q] S4 SGH-I337 won't boot after flash

Hello all, I was running Pacman rom and I tried to flashed a kernel. But the flash failed and after I rebooted my phone, everything went wrong.
The phone is stuck on bootloop, but the whole screen is black. I can only get into download mode.
I tried flashing stock firmware through Odin and it passed. However, the same black screen bootloop still exists.
Please help me, anything else I can do to unbrick my phone? Thanks
What firmware did you flash in Odin? Can you get into recovery now and if so have you tried a factory reset?

Fixed!! Thanks for everyone who spent the time to help me. I don't understand why Odin didn't work, but I am very sure I flashed the correct MDL firmware for I377. Anyways, I tried firmware emergency recovery in Kies, and though it wiped all my memory, it worked.

[Q] Phone won't boot

Greetings all
I recently tried the root process that was developed by geohot (http://towelroot.com/) on my s4. It worked to get root and unlock the bootloader (I thought). When i tried to flash a custom recovery to it, it failed and now the phone won't even boot normally at all. Can still get to Odin but can't get to Recovery. When I tried to Odin the stock ROM to it, it fails immediately.
Got any ideas on things that I can try to do to fix it, or you think that it's hardbricked now?
You will be able to Odin flash the full NB1 firmware. The link is available in the all things at&t thread

Also, towelroot only roots. There still is no custom recovery, the bootloader is still locked

[Q] Bricked my Galaxy S4, stuck on boot screen

I apologize in advance for my lack of knowledge and understanding. I recently flashed a custom rom on my Galaxy S4, and it worked but I noticed the Wifi wasn't working, so I attempted to get it to work by trying again. It ended up badly, and it's now been stuck on the boot screen for a while. I tried doing a factory reset and wiping the cache partition, but it was still stuck on the screen. I can also still get onto download mode, so I'm hoping that means I can still save my phone.. I'm also not worried if I lose my internal storage, considering I'm just desperate to get my phone working again. I have an SGH-I337 AT&T phone.
What rom did you try to flash and what firmware version are you on. You're phone is not bricked and is recoverable.

Thank you for the fast response. I tried flashing Goldeneye rom and used Safestrap recovery. I'm on firmware version NC1. It's relieving to hear my phone is still fixable. Thank you again!

I would flash the nb1 tar file in Odin. Then do the nb1 to nc1 update and start over again. You'll need to root again and install safestrap. Have you successfully flashed roms in safestrap before?

Thanks, I'll try that. Also, this was the first time I've ever flashed a rom, and I'm unsure if you would consider it successful, since the wifi wasn't working, but besides that, I saw no issues.
I had to go this same route when I was messing around and soft bricked like you. It's not hard to recover following the instructions . Odin the NB1 stock tar, let phone boot to ensure it is alive again. Then use the built in recovery to install the NC1 update. Reboot and you are ready to towelroot/supersu/safestrap.
Don't worry. It will be ok!

I tried to install the gpe on my s4 and now im stuck.

I installed it and then tried to install loki but it was aborted. My phone says System software not authorized by Att has been found on your phone, I got it back into recovery once so i think I can do it again. I wiped everything and tried to go back to my old hyperdrive but it aborted that too. Im using cwm I believe. Im in over my head here and am pretty worried. Any help is appreciated.
Not sure what happened when you tried to install the Rom, but you might have to flash the mdl firmware in Odin. You can get it at sammobile.com
