anyone else try any aftermarket cameras for video camera mode and notice different colored like stuck pixels? whenever I make a video on another camera, like stock google camera, Lenovo super camera, snap camera, a few little white stuck pixels show up.
they don't show up in the stock app. I'm wondering if this camera sensor has dead pixels, and somehow the noise reduction on the stock app hides them. is there any sort of pixel mapping program for Android cameras like dslrs have?

Noticed something as well. Initially I thought it was a dead pixel on the screen so I downloaded an app to check for it but it found no problem. Then decided to upload the vids to my desktop and the odd pixel behavior was very obvious.
I am not aware of cell phone manufacturers putting in that level of effort to correct defects but it would certainly seem possible. Beyond my knowledge to speculate further. Will check to see stock versus "lgcamcorder" app. Right now.

Sigh... not showing up...
I don't recall the exact conditions that made them show up. Will check my desktop later an recreate the issue.
No problem at all here,i just took a video with super camera in a dark room.Everything is dark no whites at all.
I think a youtube sample of what we are talking about is in order. It's not always easy to see, but when you find a video that has them it's really obvious. It takes the right colors in the image of the video for them to show up it seems. Kind of hard to explain. Trying to find the videos that had the problem since I'm at my desktop now.

Video of my bird, and my finger lol
Be sure to have full screen and 1080p or the 'artifacts' created in the video are not visible.
Ugg, compression even at 1080p has blended much of the white spots away. I think maybe a frame capture from the original file will be the best way to show what I'm talking about. But anyway, if you look at my birds grey feathers as he walks about you will be able to see white flickering pixels that don't move so they stand out as his grey feathers pass by them. When he first walks to the left near his water you can see them, and when I put my finger out and he 'trips' you can see them pretty clearly.
I guess the upshot from this is if you are going to upload your videos to something like Youtube, then the bad flickering pixels won't matter much. Trust me when I say watching the original file it's obvious where the bad pixels are and they are nearly always visible.
Maybe I will have to upload to Vimeo instead so the original file can be downloaded.

yup., bottom towards the right where your finger is, you can clearly see a stuck blue pixel.
that's exactly what i get. i get blues and whites.
If I remember correctly, I recorded that video at a higher than stock bit rate with the lgcamera app, not the stock app to avoid confusion. When I get around to it I will try to set up identical scenes and post the difference.
This may seem like a useless issue to some but with others trying to make a better camera app for the g2 it seems important to be aware of this.
Interesting. I noticed exactly the same. I do have Cyanogen with paranoid google apps and:
-using cyanogen camera app: I get a couple of camera stunk white pixels
-using lgcamera app (adapted for cyanogen): stunk pixels are bot there
It seems there are some additional stunk pixels enabling DIS (digital stabilization)

When I take a picture, it shows for a brief moment then goes back to the camera. But in that brief instant, the quality of the picture is much lower than what its actually stored as.
Why is that? It always leads me to believe I've taken horrible pictures when in fact they might be good enough.
For those wondering, I primarily take pictures of Notes / Random papers with information. It's usually text, so it would seem as if its not legible, when it could be.
My simple workaround is taking 2 pictures per page just to make sure.. But, is there a better camera app?
There are several dozen camera apps on the play store. Find what works for you.
I agree there is lots of camera apps like:

Silent Camera- https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=soft.kinoko.SilentCamera&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEsInNvZnQua2lub2tvLlNpbGVudENhbWVyYSJd

Thank you guys. Although I have to ask, Is there some remade version of the same app that works better? A fix of some sort

its not broken, its just a preview of what you just snapped. swipe to the right to see the actual image, swipe to the left again to go back to the camera. I think this happens when you have HDR mode on, since it has to stitch together several photos
---------- Post added at 10:42 AM ---------- Previous post was at 10:39 AM ----------
Also it's more noticeable when using the zoom, but so far the digital zoom has not disappointed me, i use it to take pictures of the whiteboard in my accounting class cuz the professor likes to explain everything with huge confusing diagrams and then erase everything

No. It does this with regular settings as well.
When I take a pic with the flash, the instant preview looks really bright like my flash killed the photo making me think I need to take another, but when I swipe to the right, the photo looks perfect.

Hi all.
Had my nexus now for 3 days and I'm really enjoying it. Its a massive step forward compared to any android device I've owned in the past. The phone is so smooth and responsive. I came over from a xperia Z2 and this phone is so much better the only thing I'm missing is the camera app.
The camera on the Nexus is by no means bad. The detail and how it handles low light is amazing. I just miss the xperia view finder and the modes and settings that came along with it. All I can find with the Google camera is how it seems so focused on HDR.
What do you guys think? Also can anyone point me in the right direction of a decent replacement camera app that's like the Sony one?
Thank you
(Ps mods if this threads in the wrong place please feel free to move it)
There is already a thread about camera: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/nexus-6p-camera-t3216218
If you flip your phone over, there's a horizontal band at the top. The round thing on the furthest left is the camera.
That's how you find the camera.

If the horizontal band sticking out is at the bottom, you have the phone upside down.

It's because the resolution is dropped to 720p and the amount of light it can pull it taking 240 pictures a second is limited. You basically need to have nearly perfect lighting for it to look good.
Ah, gotcha . I was really caught off guard. Like I thought the camera took a dump in that moment, which I guess it did.

Is a nexus dude. Never expect its camera to work as expected.
While this camera is really good, there is a hint of reality in that post.
Yeah same for me grainy as f&#k.
My 240 videos are real choppy in playback. I have plenty of light. Anyone else with this problem? This is viewing it in Google photos on the phone. Also when you hit the site motion button on playback, it says edit to adjust speed. I can only select what part of the video plays in snow motion (which is choppy) when I select edit. Isn't there aa 1x 2x etc. Playback option?

Never mind! I saw someone posted a restart fixed the issue and it did. I haven't restarted it since I got the phone.
I'm planning to pick up a G6 this Friday to replace my G5. But I'm slowly becoming aware of the camera issues that are being posted. Is this something you think will get addressed with a software update, or should I wait a few weeks for the S8 even though I'm not a big fan of curved screens?

What camera issues? Mine has been working great.
I've got no issues at all. I LOVE the camera. Even in auto mode it's amazing. Really really happy that they got rid of the laser focus. Photo attached is no editing just wide angle and hand held
There's a thread titled "LG G6: Is it worth buying?" where a bunch of people are talking about the bad camera quality.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
There's no camera issue, it's just not as great a camera as it should be. If you take photos in wide angle they are superb, but single lens shots are sub parts. It's digital processing is awful. Hopefully there's an update to fix.
Sent from my LG-H830 using Tapatalk
how's it compare to the GS7? I just pulled the trigger the other day and it's coming tomorrow. I could not find any full review articles or videos on youtube with the final software and hardware version. I wanted to see comparisons to the GS7. I finally got tired of waiting for reviews and went ahead and ordered it. Hope i made the right decision. I'm pretty picky about cameras.
I love the camera one thing I really really love is auto focus is much better than the lg g4 was. Also love that just tapping a a different spot on camera can easily adjust the exposure while maintaining a full frame focus. I'm the pictures at times from the gs7 may appear better but it also depends on what device they are being viewed on. I mean if I watch 1080 videos on my low end barely HD monitor th3 comparisons are useless. Sadly not enough pictures ever get printed. Plus wide angle for the win. Sample quick take from the beach on sunday.

Reviews already show the S8 selfie camera is awful too. What's the point of auto focus if it still makes you look like a cartoon and "beautify's" everything. Side by side comparisons online with the Pixel and iphone 7 show the S8 (and samsung) is still awful for selfies.
The selfie camera is a little blurry but not that bad. For 5MP it's to be expected. Yes, it's not as versatile as the back camera setup, but I guess if you're not used to having to plan shots to get the composition you want, it can seem crap by today's standards. blurry in darker shots, but does well enough for me. Using the filters that are on by default make it worse too. (Can't guarantee that the image I attached doesn't have any filters added as I don't remember when I took the shot. I think it is slightly filtered)
I was concerned every shot with the back camera would need to be "tweaked", but I'm surprised how well it does with auto. You can modify gamma on the fly too which is nice (and necessary with more difficult shots). Keep in mind though if you're cropping to 16:9, then it will affect perceived image quality. That can affect the blurriness of the non-wide angle lens tbh since it's the lesser of the two. Both take great shots though on automatic.
The wide angle is the best one of all three.
I attached a photo taken with selfie lens. You can judge for yourself. Personally, I think it looks fine. Most shots are going to be viewed on mobile so resolution won't be as important as the back camera. I don't use selfie cam too often though, but if it's your primary camera, then yes you will be disappointed by the step down and will likely want to go for something with a higher res like S8...
This is comparison of night shots of two back lens... wide angle versus non-wide angel camera... as you can see, both have their advantages and disadvantages.
---------- Post added at 04:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:21 PM ----------
Here are a bunch of microshots. Does it have it's weaknesses? Oh yes. Is it a bad camera. Not at all.
Pro Tip: Sometimes I notice sometimes you have to "zoom in" just a tad in order to get the autofocus to catch stuff up close but it's rare. My point and shoot does the same thing. (Also there is manual focus)
No issues at all with the cameras here. FWIW, I like them a lot better than the G4.
Just because of this thread, I had to try in near total darkness... It turned out pretty clear. I'm not disappointed at all. I came from S7 Edge, and I can say for a quick low light picture, it is a "little" better, but by no means is this camera a disappointment. But, when there's light, it's better than S7. I'm very happy with the phone.
I am having horrible camera pictures. Worse then the last few phones i've had. The panorama has double images and it's wavy. The reviews on youtube says it works good. all the pictures look like the grass and trees was painted with water colors. it's awful. I'm worried about what I"m going to do now. I can't keep my GS7 since I upgraded so there's no turning back unless i exchange my phone but for what model? I don't want a Galaxy with a curved screen so the options are limited at Verizon. I would upload some images but how do i post the images from my computer? The image button wants a url.

I tried auto mode with and without HDR. Btw there's no HDR button so I have to go in the settings every time I want to turn it on our off. Totally unacceptable. I tried manual mode too. I have it at 16:9 at the highest resolution. Is there a quality setting I missed?

I have got a screen shot of my settings. It was done in auto. I used the mode/filter called "1839". Also, if you tap on the object you want it to focus on, you'll see a slider (I circled it in other screen shot) which your can use to make adjustments to make pictures clearer in low light or put your own tweak on a picture.

Thanks. I knew i should have looked there. I'll take a look.
1. When i try taking pictures using the stock camera app i get a full view but when i try to record a video i get a zoomed in view. Why is that?
2. In indoor lighting when i try to record a video it continuously shifts from blurred view to clear view. Why?
Is it only on my phone or in every phone?
If you know anything about this please reply.
Update: found the solution for first problem. It's because of image stabilization being turned on. But can't we record a stabilized video in full view?

1. Its due to EIS. It works on cropping out the video to provide a stable video. If you had OIS hardware on the phone, the video would be full view.
2. Autofocus issues. Try other camera apps and see. Like Open Camera App.

You can record a video, open Google photos and then stabilize it. The output might not be great for super shaky videos but it will do the magic of almost all videos without cropping much
