[Q] Sell/borrow contract s4 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

If I sell or let someone borrow my contract s4 phone and they put their sim card in, will any like call data text rates be applied to my bill for the person who is using it rather than me? Or will i just pay regulary for unlimited call text/ 4gb data. Will the persons sim card activate their data phone plan? Or will it be mine that is activated?

Hi,
Your phone company only knows what your sim card is doing, not which phone it's in.

Ulimited Data -Amazon Purchase

I just received my Focus from the Amazon $49 deal and was able to transfer my iPhone's unlimited data plan to it. This is only possible if you have a "grandfathered" device which already has unlimited data on it, as AT&T has dropped the unlimited plan.
Heres How:
Order your phone on Amazon. Choose any data plan, doesn't matter.
When your phone arrives, charge it, but, DO NOT PUT IN THE SIM CARD.
Have your SIM Card and Box out and available as you will need them.
DO NOT ACTIVATE THE PHONE AS PER AT&T'S INSTRUCTIONS on their web-site.
Call AT&T Wireless [1-800-331-0500]
DO NOT ACTIVATE YOUR PHONE USING THE AT&T MENU
Press "0" to speak to an agent.
Ask to migrate your existing plan over to your new Samsung Focus. This will move your Unlimited Data Plan to your new phone.
Provide the numbers from the phone box
Provide the SIM number from your new SIM.
Have the Agent activate the phone and call your phone to make sure it is working.
There, you should now have a fully activated phone with Unlimited Data.
This is how I was told to do it from Amazon and it works.
If you miss your Visual Voicemail from the iPhone, sign up for Google Voice (www.google.com/voice). You will never miss it!
Enjoy
should this work for any phone purchased through amazon wireless?
yes, I had activated with the $15 plan but then I called them to put back my old unlimited data plan.
my billing cycle is up today so tomorrow i have to see if its still unlimited if its not then im going to call them because on my plan now it still says unlimited.
I wonder if there is anyone out there who could shed some light on this?
I was not able to apply my $15 unlimited data plan that I was on before upgrading to the new Focus because my old device was not a smart phone? I upgraded from the Pantec Matrix.
Thanks,

Smartphone and Non Smartphones are 2 different data plans. Since the Focus is a smartphone the only way for you to get unlimited data for a smartphone, you have to have had a smartphone and that data plan.

Correct, I've have a HTC Hermes since '07 with a UL Data plan. Ordered 2 Focus's today through ATT Premier (buy one get one free) and was able to apply the UL plan to it, 2GB plan to my Wife's.

forgot to mention this only works for people already using the unlimited data plan!
Thanks everyone. Now I feel sad for not taking any upgrade offers to smartphones in the past
I did exactly what is said in the first post. Ordered from Amazon with 2gb and 1500 message plan. I called att to transfer my plan but the rep said I could not. The rep said that I could Not transfer my existing plan (media net 200 bundle with unlimited data) because my previous phone was not a smart phone. I told her I had htc fuze and she was puzzled. She talked to supervisor and still said I could not keep my old plan.

Hello,
I have an ATT data plan that I use with a wireless card. My question is can I just take the SIM card out of my wireless card and insert it into my Galaxy tab? Thanks in advance for your help.

I don't think it's that hard to find out. Just pull it out and insert it in.
I think he is asking for permission
Actually I should say that I don't have the tab yet but wondered if this would work. Anyone try it?
I have the tmobile version. I popped my sim card in and got 3g but redirected. I think that there isnt a restriction you can pop in your sim and start using it. If you want to use it as a phone you need to flash the firmware. check the att thread
No... This did not work effectively for me when I took the Samsung Galaxy Captivate (SGH-I897) SIM from AT&T and inserted it into the Tab... After talking to AT&T for several hours and even asking them to validate with Samsung we determined the following:
1. Audio calls using the 3G network is not possible at this point in time.
2. Needed to enable a separate data plan with AT&T and a new phone # using the SIM for 3G data (2GB/mo = $25 + I added the unlimited messaging = $15 /mo).

It will work just fine. At least it does on my AT&T Tab with Euro JK5 ROM.

Well, if you have hours to spend for AT&T rep, why don't you spend some time reading up from this forum? Here is a good place to start http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=847273
Of course, it's not supported by AT&T but then why buy the tab if you can't do sh*t about it? If that the case, I would prolly buy an iPad and feed Steve Jobs so he could be wealthier
What the heck is wrong with some of you? Why don't some of you think for yourselves? I didn't even hestitate, I asked the sales rep if I could pop my SIM into their display model and she said ok. It downloaded data immediately on my account. And I have unlimited data plan and the SIM normally sits in my Tilt 2.
It works. I had the common sense to just do it then and there.
Sure, it doesn't make calls. That's a ROM issue. But then that's also heavily documented here on this forum and the info to defeat that is there, too.
Sheesh.

[Q] invalid sim card problem

just got my lg c900 today from ebay, and when i insert my att sim card, it says "invalid sim card"...
But I have been using this sim card on other devices, like nokia 2710 and my touch 3g and they work fine!!
So i tried someone else's sim card(Att), it works too!!!
What should i do.....
You need to unlock the phone to use with other carrier. There are a lot of unlocking services that can help you to unlock it.
Aha!
I had the exact same 'problem' and freakou... er... reaction.
You have to activate a plan on the SIM card. Only then will it stop giving you the INVALID SIM message at startup.

Jesus! Is there no other way out? I didn't buy it from AT&T and don't want to pay for the data plan....
can i just don't make a data plan but just enable the data connection?
If you want to use the phone or Data (excluding Wifi) functions of the phone, you'll need to have some sort of plan or prepaid account associated with the SIM card.
It doesn't mean you have to pay the 'Smartphone' package that AT&T offers (forces) when you get the phone on a contract. You don't even need to have a plan at all! You just need to activate an account online.
Thanks, but actually this is not my contract phone. I bought it from someone else. In my current contract my device is a basic phone, but I enable the data connection function(pay per usage).
But it's still not working...what a wp7....
what do you mean by activating an account online? I already got my account.
Well, on Telus, you just had to activate a phone by entering the SIM number (it's on the little card you received with the SIM or sometimes on the SIM itself) in the 'Activate your Phone' wizard.
Problem fixed!!!!
I call the ATT customer service and they update my sim card information. now it works!!!
Excellent to hear! I'm glad your problem got fixed

[Solved] Verizon Activation Issues (How do you do it?)

Hi. I'm in the process of activating a MXP on an unlimited Verizon line with a pre-programmed nano sim card that I got from a Verizon web chat.
Both the chat and phone technical help are saying that I cannot activate this phone because the account has unlimited data.
How do you activate this phone on Verizon with unlimited data? Her current phone is an GS3 that takes a micro sim card.

International Roaming

I was just curious if anyone knew how I could use text, data, and voice in another country without having to pay for the extremely high charges for international roaming. Someone mentioned buying a prepaid SIM card once I get in the country from one of the local carriers and switch it out with my SIM card. I'm also curious if something like Google Voice would work, if I set it to use Google Voice for all of my voice calls and texts if I set it to use VOIP instead of the standard network. I know this will only work if I'm connected to WiFi, but I can deal with this Instead of paying so much for data & minutes if I buy a plan. Has anyone figured out the best way, or cheapest I should say, to be able to use the phone internationally without having to pay for a plan and have to pay $1 USD per minute for overage.
If anyone has suggestions, I would love to hear them.
