I'm running TWRP 2.4.1.0 on rooted Andriod 4.2.2. I was looking into how to upgrade to 4.3 since TWRP prevents me from getting the OTA upgrade but in the process of making a system backup in TWRP, I pressed the square button by accident (next to the home button and the back button). Whatever that button is caused TWRP to get stuck and it now displays, "Updating partition details...". I tried the power button but I get a TWRP lockscreen. Unlocking the lockscreen causes TWRP to return to the same window indicating it is updating the partition details. How can I get past this and has TWRP damaged my pre-existing data?
Well, I took a leap and did a power button long press. I had to keep the button pressed while unlocking TWRP at the same time and I got my Nexus to boot. So, I don't need help with that after all!
Figured I'd provide an update in case this happens to anyone else.
Nobody helped you but you helped me!!!
same problem and I made as you!! SOLVED!!!
Thank you!!!
just hit the little square button again and TWRP will come back.
No need to reboot via power button.
Just ran into this a minute ago, needless to say this thread helped!

I just had the same problem as well using twrp 2.6.3.0 on transformer prime 64gb. The problem is that it won't let me make a backup, tells me there is insufficient space when there is more than enough. I am back in recovery and hit menu and back at the updating partition details screen. Any ideas what I need to do so that I can make a backup?

How much free space vs used space do you have? Is it possible that there could be a lot of space left but not enough for a full backup? Also, have you tried any 3rd party apps to determine disk usage just to compare with what you're seeing in settings-->storage? There's a list of them here... http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/free-storage-space-android-device/
thanks for this info, i also was on message "updating partition details" on my nexus 7 2013 flo 16b.

I just figured it's the "Take ten years off my life" button because that was my reaction when I clicked it.
Srsly though thanks for this thread; I'm a n00b at rooting/unlocking/flashing/wtflolbbq and this got me down off the ledge.

OK, I'd appreciate some help here. I Just downloaded Zenmaster's Reboot button app. I probably made a mistake by going to ROM manager and its install from SD card option.
The install started out fine, but just stalled at installing update. Left it there for 30 minutes.
I did a battery pull and the phone went into recovery except it says at the bottom of the screen:
E: Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk01p1
(Invalid Arguement)
#MANUAL MODE#
The upper screen has the typical
reboot system now
Apply sdcard...
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
Nothing happens with either reboot system now or apply from sdcard
So I really would appreciate...what now.
Are you rooted? Do you have Clockwork Recovery installed?
Are you hitting the "Home" soft button key on the Reboot option? That's the "Enter" key for the stock recovery screen, not the Power button like it is for Clockwork.

Yes I'm rooted and yes I have CWM.
This is embarrassing now, because I WAS NOT hitting the home button, which I should have known to do, but obviously forgot. Did that and I'm back up. Old Droid habits die hard I guess.
My apologies for using up bandwidth and thank you again.

Yeah, that's not gonna work. The app is a .apk file, which gets installed via adb or Root Manager/Astro. It's not a flashable zip.
It's also now available on the market .

Bonus. That is fantastic news.
Well naming the .zip to .apk worked and Reboot Button worked. Sort of. I think what happened here was no fault of the app, but something related to the relationship between my phone and voodoo. I had never seen any particular problem on my phone, but I just wanted a way to disable the thing as I was contemplating flashing jt's ROM.
Well the disabling of voodo lost root on my phone. I use Launcher Pro and that was gone too. So I tried reinstalling that and entered a force close loop from hell. After installing the LP, the phone regressed to the same opening screen it had when out of the box, different from the static wallpaper I had.
There is a thread on this here:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/fascinate-roms-hacks/38029-how-escape-force-close-loop-hell.html
I followed that and got back to the out of the box Fascinate state. Only part of my apps, and not all of the paid ones showed up in Market, even after an overnight wait. The significant missing one is Documents to Go.
There was 0.00 space left on internal memory, so I did a factory reset.
This would not be a big deal, BUT the phone will not root, so I can't use Titanium Backup to restore stuff. The Samsung Drivers are installed, the USB cable is the one that came with the phone, and the computer recognizes the device. However, Odin seems to think the device is not connected.
So, I'm not sure what is going on with this phone of mine. Again, I don't think it is the app.
Edit; All is back to normal
Hi i have a MyTouch 4G rooted with Virtuous Fusion ROM. Everything was working until when I tried to install Miui Music Player on it. I did adb push but after doing it when i unplugged the phone from my computer several Force Close came up then i rebooted my phone then the MYTOUCH Tmobile logo start up screen came then the HTC logo came then my phone will shut down. I tried to start my phone again the same thing happen. I did Hboot and tried recovery from there but it didnt work. I tried Factory Reset but it failed. I go to clockwork recovery mode if i do backup and restore or factory reset nothing happens. Does it mean my phone is gone? Is there anything i can do to fix it? Please anybody help Does this mean my phone i bricked

Great minds think alike. Hopefully that was his only problem. I have to say though, there's something pretty funny about someone thinking their phone is bricked because they're using the wrong button to make selections in recovery! I'm not making fun of anyone, but it does make my chuckle a little.

If the ROM still won't boot, I would wipe data, cache, and Dalvik-Cache, and then flash the ROM again (assuming the zip is still on your SD).

Wipe each item once. I think the new recoveries wipe everything when you select 'data', but do the other items just to be sure. Dalvik-Cache is under the Advanced section.

Haha I feel for you OP I had this problem at first (came from an EVO didn't have a trackpad) so I was confused. Didn't take much before I realized it was the trackpad inside. My new problem is my trackpad broke lol. So now I can't select anything (in the OS or in the Recovery) somehow I got the power button to work one time while I was in recovery (little white writing even came up like it does when you flash a rom that said "power button select enabled") never got this to happen again though, any ideas?

Hi guys. I already downloaded everything required for the event that I upgrade from stock eclair to a custom rom. In this case I want to try this one... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1253476
Well, this is actually my girlfriends phone. Anyway, yesterday, she was having this com.android.phone has stopped unexpectedly and she's unable to use her phone as well as other force close message. Anyway, just want to know how do I go about this problem.
If I try to do the steps on the given link, would it help? I do hope for an answer because I'm gonna attempt it 7 hours later. Thanks in advance.

Yes a new rom should fix the problem!!
Or a reboot will fix the problem too!!
Thanks for the feedback.
I got an update from her. When I told her to do a hard reboot, she told me that it got stuck on the logo. I'm gonna check it out later. But if that'd be the case, what should I do then?

Coming from a galaxy s4, i did alot of tweaking around, sometimes screwing up systemui and other things that would cause my phone to bootloop and get stuck... There was always an easy solution... Reboot the phone into recovery, wipe data, and flash the rom again, then everything would be ok.. ive never truely had my phone brick to a point where it was a nightmare to fix. Everything was easily accessible through TWRP
does that work the same on the g2??? If i flash a kernel that doesnt work, or do something that causes my rom (clean rom) not to boot up, is it as simple as booting the phone into recovery and flashing my rom again to start from scratch???
Just wanna know what im getting into before i risk screwing anything up.. thanks
looking around i see posts of people having nightmares to fix their phones... i dont know what fastboot is either.. cant you just boot the phone into twrp and reflash your rom???

I'm curious about this too. On rare occasions it has been necessary to pull the battery to reboot the phone. How does one handle those circumstances with a non-removable battery?

thats exactly what i was wondering earlier... you would pull the battery when it bootloops... but.. we cant pull the battery, so what do we do??? And what is the purpose of fastboot, if we have TWRP??? i would assume you would easily just boot the phone into recovery and just flash the rom again to fix it, but why does it seem like people are having other issues??
Worrying gives grey hairs...what if we all die tomorrow? TRWP is God for the G2 stop worrying ?

Have the latest recovery (2.6.3.2) installed!!! Turn off phone and then hold Vol- and power simultaneously till you see the LG logo then release the buttons for 1 second then press and hold Vol- and power again till you see the factory reset screen. Just select "Yes" twice and you will boot into recovery (don't worry about seeing this screen you won't lose any data unless you actually wipe from recovery)
If you don't have TWRP 2.6.3.2 installed then you can break your device attempting to do button combos so make sure you have this version!

if I remember correctly you should be able to hold the power button down for a few seconds then as soon as the LG screen comes up it should power off.
if you can't get it to power off, just try the button combination from where you are and follow through with instructions.

Again, you want to hit "Yes" twice. Don't worry you won't lose any data unless you erase it inadvertently from TWRP. just go on in click "Yes" twice to the factory reset you will be fine. It will boot you into recovery from there and it WILL NOT wipe your phone.
Hi All! I have an H918TN running the latest WETA (software version J). This morning I awoke to find an OTA update available for install (It must have happened overnight. Don't know why it appeared and don't know the size). I installed it and now I keep booting into recovery even after wipes and re-installs of backups and full installs. Nothing I've tried so far seems to work. Anyone know of a solution or link to one? I have access to ADB/Fastboot (still shows device) and the "J" KDZ file. For the record, I've tried "Restore v20 to 100% Stock (!!even for bricked devices!!" but LGUP (Version 1_14_3) says it doesn't recognize the model. TIA and later.

No offense brother, but that's an after the fact solution. I was going to open a new thread to describe the update. Not likely, for now. What I need is a solution to my problem. Sorry if I sound pissy, but I didn't need this freakin' update to screw up my phone. Most importantly, I should have known not to update a custom with a stock update. Dumb mistake.

Not yet. Try LG Bridge->Software Update->update-error-recovery. I tried but my notebook only has 2gb memory and a 25gb SSD. Unfortunately, LG Bridge is looking for 10gb of storage (Internal. You can't use external for some friggin' reason) to download the file, etc. which I don't have available. Follow the instructions in the thread "Restore v20 to 100% Stock (!!even for bricked devices!!" in "LG V20 Guides, News, & Discussion". Good Luck!
The update probably didn't even install.
It should have just triggered a TWRP bootloop.
Easy fix.
Power off or pull battery for a sec.
Hold vol down and power button - as soon as you see LG logo - release and immediately re-press power button only while continuing to hold vol down.
Factory reset screen will come up if you did it right. Use vol down to select YES twice to factory reset. ( It won't really reset anything but the recovery boot trigger ).
You'll end up in twrp. Just select reboot system and profit.

You're the man! Worked like a charm. LG Bridge said the update was triggered but failed on a partial install. That's just an FYI, not trying to rain on your parade. In any case, thanks again and your thanks-o-meter just jumped up a notch!

Don't worry man, it was me just being pissy. My apologies. You were right. I should have disabled auto-installs. All's well now though.:good:
As for what it is, I have no idea. Since it had already downloaded I also don't know what the size was. Maybe a new security update or possibly 7.1.2. In any case, I'll wait until WETA gets updated. Not going back to stock.
Regards, JT
LG update requires stock recovery to install updates. You have twrp in place of stock so it can't do anything but throw you into a recovery loop.
If you had done the factory reset before restoring backups and stuff you should have seen no changes in your phone.
The update files need to be deleted from your fota folder or you can end up in the twrp bootloop again.

I re-installed WETA and the update reappeared. The files were supposedly downloaded, but not installed. I canceled the install and blocked all notifications as well as stopping auto-updates. I checked the fota in cache, per your advice, but found not a thing. Not sure where it could be. If you have any suggestions as to where it might be, I would appreciate it. Thanks for the advice.

Found it! Right in front of my freakin' eyes. Wasn't in the fota folder, as I thought, though it was in cache by its lonely self. Used ES File Explorer Pro and found the size to be 148mb. Looks to be a security update. If anyone wants it, and understand I have the T-Mobile variant H918TN, I'll try to upload it.
May all that is good and holy bless you. Google kept giving me results to do ADB stuff that was giving me "no such folder" or somesuch error after typing out long strings of stuff I wasn't confident I typed correctly (being dyslexic)... even tried plugging into the computer and copy-pasting what was supposed to be the fix so my dyslexia wouldn't be a part of the problem and nothing for over an hour of me getting more and more snappish at my kids interrupting me. This fixed the recovery loop in a couple seconds. I don't care if I have to redo everything on the phone (it's new anyway, stupidly accepted an OTA update of CM14.1 nightly just as I was about to be done setting the darn thing up). Now I can chill with my kiddos a bit until bedtime then mess with the darn phone again without worry that I'll screw something up by forgetting where I was in the process.
Bless. You. Muchly.
