How to remove the SIM card easily ?
I'm still switching between my note2 and note3 until all is reconfigured; so I'm switching the SIM card as well.
removing the SIM is not easy on the Note3 due to the abscence of spring mechanism.
I wanted to share my solution, which is a very common answer to common problems: 'Duct Tape'.
Cut a small string of tape, stick on SIM, make a little handle by sticking the rest of the tape to itself; profit.
See pics in below links.

As is explained in the manual and quickstart guide:
REMOVE THE BATTERY BEFORE INSERTING OR REMOVING THE SIM.
Also, it rests 2 milimeter below the edge of the battery. If you lot, who are supposed to be tech-savvy, couldn't figure that one out by means of logical thinking, I weep for the future of humanity.
Indeed, I didn't try but I don't think you can remove the SIM with the battery in; even with the tape...
I use one tweezers to extract it. (Whitout battery)

For my Note 3 I never had a problem pulling it out
1. Take out the battery
2. Make sure your Thumb has some sort of friction (NOT SMOOTH)
3. Rest your thumb on the edge of the sim and pull downwards (Due to friction the sim pulls out with some force)
4. Done
I swapped sims like this from day 1 when I unlocked it and tested my friends sims in and out.
I never used a third party tool...
:good: good solution
I used a pencil eraser - the rubber provides plenty of grip, and the pencil eraser head is small, so it's the perfect tool. I easily switched SIMs back and forth using this method, with no problem.

Right, I got my Vario II a couple of days ago. Its great, but I was wondering something - could I cut to fit my Oyster card to sit underneath the battery cover? Anyone tried this? Does anyone know how much I can trim off of the card? Would be great to just get the phone out to swipe with!
Cheers
Chris
I can't even fit a spare 1Gb MicroSD under it without the cover bulging, so I doubt an Oyster card would fit without some major mod's. You can't trim much (if any) off it, the RF coils are pretty much all the way around the edges of the card. Great idea though!
I just put my Oyster card next to the SD spacer(don't have a Micro SD card yet) and they are about the same thickness. I thought it might be the case with the coils, which is pretty annoying as the card really isn't far off fitting in. Any ideas if there are any pics showing a kinda 'xray' of the Oyster?
haha, you copying the Japanese on this? They too have the equivalent of Oyster cards (Suica, much more advanced with online usage if you have a card reader attached to your computer) which can be integrated into their mobiles. In fact, I do wonder if the technology of the 2 systems are teh same
I'm sure there must be a way to cut up the oyster card so that only the data bit remains? Anyone got a spare fiver to dissect an oyster card?
Oyster is a standard Mifare card.
Although I've not seen "inside" the oyster - a mifare card has a coil slightly larger than the size of a 50p in the centre - with the chip either inside or outside of the coil.

Right fellows I have tried to search nearly an hour to find-out what’s & where the chip is inside the Oyster but no joy, finally I have tried one another card to just give it a try and I am sadly declaring that it is NOT possible at all to sandwich the oyster card between the battery & its cover (I have tried on my XDA-IIi -- Alpine), even though I have tried to press the cover so hard that the sliding latches could break in a split second. Check the pictures.

So why would you want to take out your highly desirable phone in a crowded tube station?
Do you need the insurance money?
Maybe you could attach credit cards to a lanyard, hang them from the phone and have your PIN number tattooed to your forehead.
Anyway I am carrying my oyster in the card slot of my XDA-IIi's leather pouch and touching the pouch on the scanner every day, works fine for me.
I think this is more secure from the prying eyes and for the scratch protection of the device.

i would say yes, with some modification. check out this link if you are still interested. I plan to do this for my Hero in the coming weeks

I have one account that I cannot enter with a camera phone. I've never really had an issue with switching sim cards, but the Advantage poses a problem. I've been using a small chunk of egrip, but I was wondering if cutting a fingernail slot near the end would work. Would I damage the sim card (its ability to work) by cutting a slot near the end to use a finger nail or even a hole for the stilius?
Thanks

It's easy to slide it out if you press it DOWN and PULL it out at the same time. Don't try to dig your finger under the card.

I found it difficult as well so I took a SMALL piece of scotch tape
and attached to both sides of the sim in a loop.
It gives you a little handle that tucks away neatly when you close the door.
I can remove mine fairfly easily. Just raise the little 'door' that keeps it in place, put your finger flat on top of the sim card, and slide it right out.

I do that also, but I'm of the opinion that bending back the door tabs enough to do the sim extraction 1-2 times a day will shorten their life to only a couple of weeks. I think I'm gonna drill a stilus size hole near the end, then it can be pulled out with the stilus and out the slot between the door and the case. Still waiting for someone to tell me if that will ruin the sim. I'll post a picture if it works.
@ Hitch, I had an old Sim so I drilled a "1/16" hole at the Center End of it and tried it out. It worked out pretty good and the phone still picked it up. The stylus fit in it perfectly and pulled it out easily. Give it a shot and post back...TJ
i have used a knife to cut a fingernail slot in my sim (did that about 1 year back when i first got athena ... it works fine
but yes one of my tabs is broken on the door
tweezers for me !

My tap too. Is it the side closest to the keyboard connection?
Hy,
I hotswaped my SIM card few times.
Went to Comm Manager, Phone OFF, take SIM out, put another one in, Phone ON...
I'm just curious if something could go wrong by swaping SIM this way, since it is a lot faster not waiting the device to reboot.
Cheers!
Hi
I am curious how you swap the sim without taking the battery out.

Andrew
Bend it over the battery with a toothpick/stylus or fingernail, then just slide it out. Its actually easy, and it saves time.
Yep its possible !
I would be wary of bending the metal sim retaining bracket though.
On my Kaiser I had to pack it out with a piece of paper to ensure the sim made good contact - and on that phone I hot swapped with no problems.

I have been swapping sim cards quite a few times, I always use paper, the size of a sim card and leave it in inside the cover.
Very easy and the paper protects the battery and sim card from being scratched.
So...recently I switched to a new T-mobile prepaid plan, and the sim card the pack came with was (unbeknownst to me at the time) a microSIM.
(Wasn't paying attention to the package. Phone had been turned off for days, I was excited). Being the stupid person I am, I put the microSIM card in my sim card slot and (*gasp*) it was too small. I couldn't get it out with my fingers, so i took a paper clip to it. I suppose in the process of removing the sim card, I must have pushed some of the pins down. The phone no longer recognizes any sim cards. I've taken the phone apart down to the motherboard, but the sim card reader the the sd reader are attached to the motherboard. Does anyone know of anyway that I can remove them from the motherboard so I can access the pins underneath the reader? Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the long post...I like typing..

They aren't actually attached to the motherboard, they are attached to a thin metal plate above the motherboard, and connect underneath with a small black ribbon on the right hand side (not the camera ribbon). You can gently undo the black ribbon cable that wraps underneath on the right hand side (near the black coax cable), then unlatch the tiny metal tabs all around the metal plate they are attached to (I used a small flathead to pry them), and pop the plate off. Can't remember if you can access the pins from there, but you might get a better look at it at least. If I remember there are a few little holes under the sim reader, where you might be able to access whatever you jammed up.
Good luck!
Anyone bothered by the S5's SIM card slot under the microSD card? Not only that, but it may be difficult to remove for some people. With the S3 (and other phones), removal is quite easy: just push in a little and it pops out enough to easily slide out. Cant do that on my S5 though. Videos on YT show this to be a common problem, although on too comfortable with the solutions offered. These may range from applying pressure on bottom of SIM and sliding out or using a pin/toothpick in a hole at top of SIM holder to nudge it out. However one solution I tried is easy as cake and much safer. Apply small piece of scotch tape at lower end of SIM card and it pulls out rather easily. Just thought I'd share. Cheers.
I've had my S5 about 15 months, never removed the SIM card once
