Hello everyone, i have noticed on my galaxy s4 i9500 that some games lag and stutter at times. Is this because the gpu is weak or less optimisation by developers.

Check your score on AnTuTu if you get a lower score than normal then you must have a script or something that has an impact on the performance.
If you have xposed modules try to disable them reboot then check again how the device performs.
You'd better add more informations like rom kernel used scripts etc to get more help.

Not sure what to tell.. but many people know that Galaxy S II with CM10 (currently using 21. september nightly) uses around 35% in idle of CPU power.. just 5 apps installed.. same with HW composing disabled. and same with force 2D GPU rendering checked
While. samsung one rom does use in idle around 3-12% of CPU usage with force gpu 2D rendering checked
Games are smoother on samsung than on cyanogen (both are running siyah kernel 4.1.5 with oc at 1.6 + GPU 400 + touch boost to 400 (step4)
example games: GTA III, Gangstar Rio
Why?
Not sure what is bottleneck... if fsync (really don't messed with it)
or memory bandwith,I/O,GPU, or cpu
during Gangstar RIO..
cpu runs with both cores around 65% and game lags during driving..
GPU can't tell.. as MaliStats reports bad value (400MHz 1100mV 100,1% ) all the time
Any known fix for these lags and cpu usage?
Gangstar rio is less laggy when HW composing disabled..
Because the HWcomposer isn't working correctly in CM10 so you have lags in games.
CPU takes all the load in 3D games on CM10.
BTW this question should be in CM10 thread.
HW composer still doesn't work? it is much smoother than it was before 3 weeks
now animations are smooth while before.. they were laggy as hell

This don't mean nothing, simply they work to optimize in a better way their rom.

ERROR! You are testing both roms with a "custom kernel"(siyah).
Ask in Siyah thread.

HWComposer is not working fully, CPU is doing all the graphics works. You see smoothness due to other improvements and the Dual core CPU that's inside.
UC to 200Mhz and try scrolling, you'll see lags which you won't see if HWComposer is working correctly.
Hw composer is an issue, but sensor polling is another one, never resolved in cm builds, coming from cm7 days.
I tried contacting several developers, but none seemed to see or wanted to work on the problem.
While idling, sensors use +- 10% cpu on any CM based rom (at 200mhz), while on Samsung based the usage is +- 2% idling while screen is on, same conditions. Android system process is to blame, and inside the process sensors threads are the ones sucking cpu. Disabling sensors (autororate, light, gps) did not help to reduce the problem in my case. Using different kernels did not help either...
Had to live with the issue at this point...

Do You do similar comparison stock VS CM9?
Yes.. that sensor polling really uses a lot of power.. mainly compass one!
Thank's everyone.. usic Changmin vsync builds with dorinmax + 520MHz works good

Hello. i am using this rom on my p7510 for a few days now:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1864380
i have experienced not solid and very low frame rates like 15 fps in some games i played on it, including: Asphalt 7, Modern Combat 3, N.O.V.A 3, and The dark knight rises, and more. i tried overclocking my device to 1.4 ghz, yet improvement is minimal, and the framerate is still very low. the strange thing about it, is that my Samsung galaxy 959v cell phone, running AOKP milestone 6 CM9.1 ROM, runs the above games, much smoother. i would like to know, if the game running performance can be further improved on my tablet.
Thank you.

thx for the reply. it really did slightly improve the performance. yet there is still a noticeable diffrence between the tablet and phone, and it still is very choppy even after the overclock compared to the phone. please advise.

Which ROM are you running?
I am on stock no overclock or anything, just rooted and using Performance governor. I can play all theses games with very litttle choppiness. Not as smooth my Asus with the Tegra 3 but it's still very playable for a Tegra 2.
So, trying to improve my battery life I set my CPU to dual core, and for some strange reason, everything runs smoother now, from the interface to games.
Specially Contract Killers 2 and Dark Knight Rises. This games were a pain to play since I kept getting terrible stutter and lag and could only get good steady smooth performance overclocked which pretty much beats the whole quadcore CPU on the S3 if my gf stock S2 can run all this better than my S3.
I'm running Wanamlite Jellybean deodexed DLJ2 rooted with Siyah Kernel. At the moment not overclocked.
Only reason I can come up with is that most apps are optimized for dualcore CPU's since quadcore is not yet the standard.
Has anyone experience something similar to this or wants to try this out?
BTW, battery life hasn't improved much.
Samsung sure made a coding mess with Jelly Bean.
How did you set the device to dual-core ?

Stweaks when your running Siyah kernel.
Also you can remove lag from some games if you go to developer options and check "force GPU rendering"

I have been running Dual-Core mode as well for 2 weeks now, as far as I can see it's just as smooth as Quad Core mode. At least in the following:
-General UI (homescreen, scrolling trough settings)
-Whatsapp, Facebook, Other apps
-Simple games like Jetpack Joyride
I haven't tested heavy games though. Reptide GP is smooth, that's kind off a heavy game.
Battery wise I haven't noticed any big difference either between dual and quad core mode. But neither performance wise, which is weird since it makes the quad core processor seem useless.
Stock CPU & GPU frequency's, undervolted CPU -100mV and GPU -50mV.
hello guys i am a noob here, i have this new s4 from UEA, upgraded to 4.3, tried different country variants, and tried some custom roms but some games lag, like it stutters during gameplay..eg: Plants VS zombies 2 v1.7, i compared it with my s3 and it seemed to run the game faster and smoother than s4. tried googleing up some tips and tricks on the settings but nothing seemed to work...i need some viable advice or help please. THANKS

Same here with some older games, espesh 2D ones.. Knights of Pen and Paper to name one.... It's a problem from the app side, yet to be optimized for newer devices, as far as I know, anyway....
Probably optimization issues. The S4 is likely to be able to handle a light game on 1080p, but a full blown game may lag due to the weak (for its resolution) Adreno 320. Seeing that the Mali 400 series GPU made up more than 25% of the GPU market share, the developers probably put in huge amounts of effort to optimize their apps for that chipset, so the S2/S3 runs them well.

even tried a custom kernel that tweaks the gpu up to 2.3 mhz, well it works on the speed and sped up a bit playing PVZ2 v1.7 but still i could see the stuttering, still not smooth as on s3. hope its just the app and not the cpu/gpu issues.
Can i9500 run gta san andreas maxed out smoothly without lags?
If you got lag then you need to install Xposed and then install the DVFS disabler. That will probably solve your lag.
I have i9505 quad core variant which can't play the game at low settings without lag. I know about dvfs disabler. But I wanted to know from users if i9500 can run this game at max settings without lag. Then I will switch from i9505 to i9500.
I'm on custom rom and I don't get any lags using i9505

With the i9505 you can play the game very good, smooth and stable. may be therĀ“re some other problems with your phone might be the reason for your lag, may be bad wifi or mobile connection?
my phone was able to play this game at low and medium settings without any lag before updating to official lollipop.
Actually I saw a video of a Russian guy playing gta san andreas maxed out settings without any lags on i9500 with better frame per second. I never saw a video of i9505 play this game at max settings without lags and horrible fps.
The GT-I9500 has a better GPE frequency. Probably that's why it can get better FPS.
Anyway, you should be able to play GTA San Andreas without any problems. I installed it on a friends GT-I9505 and it worked flawlessly on default settings. It was running a Google Play Edition rom, though.
Don't know about stock roms, but on custom you shouldn't have any lags.
