I play those with Dice. Try updating to the latest version of Dice Player.
Also try BS Player!

All files play fine for me with either MX Player or DicePlayer

Oups sorry guys! I did a mistake. It is not mp4 files, but mpg files. I mixed up with these files format.

does mediascape play mp4 videos?

i have different video files (avi, mkv, mp4, etc.) and i usually use rockplayer since i don't have to convert the files..
avi files on rockplayer is awesome.. no lag, no errors..
but when i play my mp4 files, it lags and in some parts the sound disappears and then appears again..
and then i noticed that mediascape 'recognizes' the mp4 files and shows them on the 'recently added' section. so i played it and voila, it works perfectly without any lags or skips.. HOWEVER, i couldn't get the sound to work at all!
so does mediascape not play mp4 videos? or is it just my mediascape having problems? if so, can u guys recommend me a better player that will play mkv and/or mp4 without lags? thanks!
avi, mp4 and some other video formats are actually wrappers. what matters is the video and audio format inside. the mediascape player is actually quite nice, no lag, even play wmv straight out of the box.
yeah the only problem being that my mp4 files don't play any audio on mediascape..
Must be the video cause I got lots of mp4 files and they run perfectly in mediascape.

Check which codec was used to encode the video... could be an unsupported codec.
Mods: shouldn't this (and 10 other threads) be moved to the q/a section?

Cant get movies to play?

I've tried:
.mpg
.avi
.wmv
none work, using the stock movie player, rockplayer AND vplayer or whatever it is.
Using software and hardware codec.
Do I need some kind of codec to play videos? This is ANNOYING
Anyone have a small video they know works I can troubleshoot with?
If it helps, I converted my wmv files into mp4 format and it works.
^ or try using moboplayer
With Rockplayer, When you load it up, instead of picking an option just wait a few seconds and see it plays. If you don't select it autoselects a codec. Seems to work ok over here.
+1 on MoboPlayer
mobo worked, thanks guys
i have played avi with rockplayer

[Q] Stock video player and subtitles

Is the stock video player supposed to display subtitles from .srt files (named the same as the .mpt file)? If not what format should the subtitles be in the mp4 container? I know one can burn them in but I'd like to have the option to turn them on/off - not sure it's even possible as I don't see any menus/settings in the stock player but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
Don't think you can man. I just installed VLC from the play store. It's beta but it works best.
I know there are many choices of much better players (MX Player, Dice, Mobo, BS, VLC, etc.) I'm just trying to understand how "crippled" the stock player really is, that's all.

Video player doesnt play some files

As titled, the video player on my note 3 doesnt play some video files properly. It just plays the sound of the file but doesnt show the video.
This is weird because these files played fine on my note 2 previously.
Please help thanks!

My videos are of the avi format. Some can be played without problems. Most only plays the sound.

there are sometimes some of the avi. Format that are not proper try to download some low size video.avi then play it if it's work there is nothing wrong with the app but with the video if it doesn't then let us now and I'll gonna post the stock svideo apk and then try to reinstall it
Use MX player, and the arm 7 neon codec. Best media player i have used on android. It has played anything ive thrown at it for years now.

The new versions of MX player dont need the codecs.
Simply install.
Go to Settings > Decoder > enable HW+
Even without enabling its one of the best apps ul find for video playback
It has gestures, as well as keeping track of the position you stopped at

Or just use VLC or Dice Player, those play everything.
MX doesn't play certain audio codecs because of copyright issues.

And yet it plays a heap of videos with sound in software decoding that other players won't...
I tend to use 3 players for allround coverage. I've only ever found 1 or 2 things that don't play and that was because of encoding errors...

Yes, same here. I have VLC, Dice, MX and Archos installed. Mostly I use DICE because of the 400% volume boost and the fact I have yet to find a file it can't play. (And I download, so.. loads of different formats.) VLC secondary, MX is usually my 'If it really doesn't work, might as well try it' one, as it usually crashes on the files the others can't play.
VLC plays literally everything.
Worst videoplayer ever is Stock... I've seen Windows Media Player do a better job...
It seems that there is no correct video codec on your devices to afford AVI videos. Have a try to encode AVI into MP4 format.
