[Q] Will T-Mobile accept my rooted G2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

SO I changed the build.prop on my G2 (Dont ask) and it basically locked me out. No recovery (TWRP), KDZ method deosn't work, or .tot files. I'm returning it to the T-Mo store. I got it 2 days ago. Will they accept my device? I know a few people there and they've helped me out in the past.
UPDATE: Stupid LG checks the build.prop to reboot into recovery, flash a kdz or .tot file, so I'm screwed. Taking it back to T-Mo, wish me good luck.

There's no reason that you shouldn't be able to rework top stock. LG couldn't leave out a variant. I wouldn't think

Help us understand. What do you mean by locked you out?

Perhaps I didn't elaborate enough. I mean I cannot go into recovery mode, I can't get ADB, and all I see is the LG logo with the notification light flashing.

How the hell did you brick it? Give us some more background on what tweaks, root methods, flashing recovery methods did you use or else its hard to diagnose the issue.

ok. i was on stock. rooted with the IO method. wanted to flash a ROM (clean rom). downloaded ROM, wipe dalvik/cache/data. after reboot, phone booted into recovery mode. tried going into download mode to revert back to stock and LG FlashTool failed. said phone was the wrong model number (D802). the ROM i Downloaded said it was for VZW G2. obviously it wasnt. so i finally ended up using fastboot to push boot image and it booted, but in about phone, it says it D802 model (i just got it to boot, where as before i was stuck in fastboot mode). now i need to return to stock, but dont know how. any ideas?

yes. not sure why its doing that. is there any way that download mode can be deleted from the phone? also, how do you get into fastboot mode?
EDIT: nevermind. i finally got it into download mode!! (thank god!!) flashing right now. damn that was a pain in the ass. i was starting to freak out that i messed up my phone. this is my first LG phone so this process is a little new to me (been on moto for the last few years) thanks for trying to help me out. this was def a learning experience.
Phew, I'm glad to hear that. Some day I will be in the same situation

Just a quick question. Why would you even need to go into download mode to flash a Rom? Never once have I done that. Really, just curious.
Thanks Devs. From my VZW G2.

I was thinking the same thing. It's best to stay out of those modes. Get a recovery installed ASAP and do everything that you need to do from there. I recommend TWRP Recovery.

Maybe because when flashing stock rom download mode is needed (atleast in my old sammy phone, maybe same in moto phones)
What's wrong with restoring the backup of the stock rom that should have been made before wiping and flashing a different rom? Not sure what I'm missing here.

Download mode is useful to flash the entire phone back to stock using the OEM tools. It's not just for the stock ROM. It's everything. It's useful if you get a bit carried away in TWRP and wipe partitions you really shouldn't be touching. Or if you somehow manage to bork your recovery, or at least can't get into it. It's also good if you want your phone to be completely stock to sell it or to send it in on warranty. I'm sure someone could come up with other scenarios where it's useful.
But yes, it is a good idea to keep a backup of your stock ROM. And as always, know what you're flashing, make sure it's for your phone and check md5s. And be mindful of what you're doing in recovery. You should be able to avoid most issues. Download mode is indeed something you shouldn't be using often but as I said above there are situations where it is useful or necessary. It's actually something I suggest you know how to use. I say it's always a good idea to know how to get back to complete stock for warranty stuff, selling, or if something just goes majorly wrong.
The Rom I was trying to flash was apparently for a different model number, yet it was under the Verizon thread. There was no md5 to cross reference. In the end I ended up finding the proper boot image/twrp files and pushed them via fastboot (since I was unable to use adb) which then allowed more to restore a backup of the original Rom. Just took me all night to finally get back to stock. Then I decided to restore to out-of-the-box stock just to make sure all files weren't corrupted our anything.

Not for nothing, but I ran the LG flash tool without putting the phone in download mode and it worked fine.

I sent you a pm
You can you adb side load which is the same for flashing rom, pushing, or pulling file from the phone which is the first thing to learn before flashing anything to the new device that you got and know nothing about.

[Q] Any way to check how my VS980 was rooted?

I got my G2 used and didn't even realize until a few days in that I was already using CleanROM and had root. Been using it like that all along and only just tonight did I stumble across some old threads about how initially there was a root method that involved some weird Chinese exe file that people eventually feared might have installed spyware and decided not to use anymore. I just assumed all along that the previous owner had used the Loki method as that was the only one I had ever heard about. I realize I could just follow a guide to fully reset my phone, but I would hate to go through all of that for nothing if my phone is safe. Plus I seem to be one of the people who can't seem to get debug mode/adb to initialize on a Verizon G2 when plugged in so I'm not even sure how I would go about using the LG flasher a tot file to fully reset my device.
So far all I tried was installing Titanium backup and making sure I didn't see any frozen Chinese language root explorer app that apparently gets installed on your phone when using that old root method and has to be frozen afterwards.
Is there any thing I can specifically look for on my phone that would hint at which root method was used?
yep there is a way. boot into download mode and here you will see phone status unrooted or rooted..
There is no way to see what method you are using, but as far as i know, you have loki method of rooting. Cause you have another ROM, and only loki patches boot, so you can have TWRP and all that stuff. Why do you want to reset the phones root? If it is working, don't use LG tools, cause i saw some people (but only on D802) who complained that they got stucked in bootloop after using LG tools.

Don't believe there's a way to get root method.
If concerned, maybe go back to stock and redo the device with the other method?

D801 bricked. No download mode.

Short version: phone won't boot, won't go into download mode, won't properly do a factory reset (tries but doesn't do it), need help.
Finally bricked my phone after tampering with it too much.
I was on the stock KK rom released by LG themselves, no root. Reverted back to the 10c firmware, OTA to 10g, rooted and installed TWRP - flashed a Vodaphone Germany KK ROM for the LG G2 because I heard it had minimal bloatware and no bluetooth wakelock unlike the KK version I was on for T-Mobile (my carrier). It had the touchscreen issue which I never experienced before. Tried multiple times to go back to any T-Mobile LG G2 ROM using the LG Mobile Support Tool - no dice. Uninstalled and reinstalled everything twice. So I figured, oh hey, I probably need to use the Vodaphone Germany JB.kdz file, root that, install TWRP, then flash back to the T-Mobile KK version that I had before. Seemed fool proof in theory. Used the LG Tool to do such, it finished smoothly and now my phone won't boot. It won't do a factory reset (it enters the factory reset mode and it attempts to do one but just reboots). It won't enter download mode either. I think I'm screwed here. Any advice?
I found 2 guides, but to even begin to do the first one I need my phone to enter fastboot mode and I can't find out how to do that anywhere.
you say Won't go into download mode? What happens when you try?
It just shows the first screen as it tries to enter download mode, with the blue dots. The screen that comes after that doesn't happen anymore. It used to switch to it after a few seconds and then the LG Mobile Support Tool could connect to the phone, but it can't anymore.

The same thing is happening to my ls980. I'm certain it's hard bricked. Download mode shows on the screen but won't boot into firmware upgrade screen. No recovery at all. Os will not completely boot but does show on pc as LG modem. Think it's totally done for. Let me know if you make any progress because we both have the same problem.

Didn't work for me. Windows and Ubuntu didn't recognize my phone. I actually ended up ****ing up my laptop by overwriting a partition but that's on me.
Decided to take it in to a T-Mobile store and blame it on the Kit Kat OTA. It turns on, doesn't boot, doesn't factory reset, doesn't fully go into download mode - how are they gonna know I ****ed it up? I have basic insurance on my plan because the JUMP program is tied into it. So for a little over $10 a month I just gained access to a warranty exchange of my device which is set to ship overnight. Can't wait. Huge stress reliever. I advise you take your phone into your carrier store and do the same as I did.

or they figure out that you root it and play with it !?

Same is the case with me, my phone is dead for more than 20 days.

Lg g2 d800 download mode brick without help

Hi friends have tried all the tutorials to get my d800 Lg g2 a brick but none works because my computer does not go into dowload mode gets stuck in the part that says "dowload mode" but did not get off to the screen firmware update.
excuse my English
You need to first download the kdz and lg flash utility with drivers.
Install drivers
The factory reset deleting system, cache, internal sd.
Then shutdown your g2.
Start to downloaded mode connecting your g2
Flash kdz & voila... Done
I too bricked my phone before. My flashing stuck at 49%. Recovered using above method, all is well now
This works 1000%. I bet on it. Just remember to wipe the phone completely before flashing. You will return to stock with unrooted status in download mode. U will have your warranty back too

G2 stuck in recovery and wont enter download mode

So for some reason while working today my phone died and when I went to turn it on it went to TWRP recovery and wouldnt leave it no matter how many times I tried rebooting it. And of course to top it off I cant get it into to download mode to revert to stock and start over. When I hold the volume up and plug it in, again it goes straight to TWRP. Need some help please.
EDIT: In case anyone is having the same problem I had, I fixed it by following this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451696 and had to use the terminal command inside of twrp.
Then it put my phone into a bootloop but I was able to enter download mode then so I followed this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2663369 to restore phone to factory. Hope this doenst happen to anyone but in case, there's how I fixed mine!
