[Q] Reflashing Original Firmware Advice - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all im looking for some advice if anyone can help.
I have asked on another thread but I need to get this sorted ASAP
I have had my Note 3 for a week, I got it from Three UK and when it arrived it had branded firmware. I flashed the latest BTU firmware I could find on Samfirmware and all went well and I had no problems. However I may now need to return the device due to a couple of issues and if I try and flash back to the Three Uk branded firmware it fails in Odin everytime. Also if I try using Kies to restore that also fails. Is there any way back to the original branded firmware
Any help greatfully received !!

If the latest BTU firmware is the XXUBMJ3 You have now the XXUBMJ3 bootloader. Whit this bootloader You can't return to an older Firmware. It's all.

Thanks very much for the reply and confirmation of what I already suspected.
So there is no way I can get the branded firmware back on the phone at all.......that presents me with a real problem.
Thanks again

Look, I remembered now.
Have You a Nandroid backup from Your old branded firmware? If Yes make a restore from it after wipe data + cache + dalvik and must work.
I tried it one time and worked for me. It seems the bootloader not control the restore Rom, but only the installs by Odin.

To have a nandroid he would have to have a custom recovery.
If this is the case then the warranty would be void anyway through Knox 0x1.
I cant see why the btu firmware would be a problem.
It is official firmware from Samsung so is not in any way messing with device that could cause a problem

It is not a BTU problem but a Firmware XXUBMJ3 problem. It arrive at all CSC.
It's same the S4 from MH8 firmware. The reason is the secured system KNOX. Older bootloaders aren't secured enough.
The 0x1 before the warranty is a great secured reason. A Phone whit 0x1 is insecure for Enterprises and Governments.

I returned my S4 with unbranded software on it to Three and they replaced it and never questioned me...
Im pretty sure you'll be fine as KNOX is not triggered and its official firmware.

Downgrade fails MJ6 to MJ3
I have upgraded from stock MJ3 to MJ6 BTU using Odin
Due to some instability I tried to downgrade and flash my MJ3 stock. It failed 3 times. I resigned and flashed MJ6 again and that went well.
Why can't I downgrade to MJ3??

Solution for soft-bricked N9005 after flashing Hong Kong's TGY firmware

I am posting this to help people who ran across the same problem I did the past 24 hours, which drove me crazy and it was quite difficult to find any info on it.
I bought my N9005 on eBay from a Hong Kong seller. I just updated it with Kies and noticed that sammobile.com has a newer MJ8 firmware, so I figured I'd just download it and flash it via Odin.
Kies shows my mobile as XME (Malaysia region), but I guessed it should work just fine, and boy was I wrong.
Moments after trying to flash it, it failed, but it did manage to flash the beginning of the firmware, which was the new MJ bootloader. That newer bootloader does not allow any other firmware with older bootloader be flashed on the phone. Not even Kies's emergency recovery was able to revive my phone which was stuck in emergency download mode.
When trying to flash I got all sorts of errors, such as:
invalid ext4 image
and
CHECK FAIL : fused : 2 , Binary : 1. (when trying to install the older XME Malaysian Firmware on top of the new bootloader)
To make a very long story short, after almost giving up and start waiting for a Malaysian firmware with the new bootloader to be released, I ran across the UK MJ6 BTU rom which does have the new bootloader too and decided to try flashing it. To my amazement - this worked and my phone is back to life! phewwwww!
This is a download link to the BTU MJ6 firmware:

my brick story in short is------ brought note 3 sm-n9005 from ebay from a Hong Kong based seller. pics of ap, cp and csc are attached. rooted with chainfire's and installed cwm6 by chenglu. A few days back, flashed bobcat rom version 2(mj7) and later 3( mk2 ) without problems. Was looking for different themes .yesterday flashed balckchrome from s4 forum that also went smooth. Unfortunatly flashed another theme for s4 which was not meant for andriod version 4.3. Pretty stupid .went into bootloop. Had nandroid backup tried to restore but couldn't.
Flashed another rom mk2 from cwm. again bootloop .took the odin route and flashed stock deodesk mj7 by Djembey from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2461929
Failed again. Then downloaded latest mk2 from sammobile website. The same error (invalid ext4 img) in short failed on all ccounts. Have run out of options. The last thing in mind is to wait for some new bootloader after mk2 which might rescue me as mentioned in this thread that new bootloaders might help... Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks
@pyarajaani
Try this:
1) Get X-Note v6 custom rom.
2) Use Odin to install CWM recovery.
3) boot the phone into CWM recovery and copy the X-NOTE rom (MK2 based) to your phone or card.
4) Do a complete wipe/factory-reset from CWM
5) Install the X-NOTE rom from CWM
And let me know how it went

Why did you suggest X-Note but not another ROM?
3 reasons:
- It's MK2 based
- I am using it
- It's excellent
And besides, if the method I suggested works, he can always replace a ROM later on if he wishes.

Nope, I didnt mean what is the best rom to use.
The problem is that how to bypass the bootloop issue.

Were u able to install cwm via odin and then boot into cwm?

yes...I did that n installed X note rom from cwm. BUT I suspect that cwm is not fully functional. Why I m saying this is that I have a nandroid backup of bobcat mj7 rom...which cwm isn't able to detect even. ..nevertheless. .cwm is installed.
1) Which CWM version do you have installed?
2) Did you do a full wipe/factory-reset?
3) Did you try also advanced formatting (of system partition together with the full wipe) and then install the ROM?
4) Did you try all the above with the latest TWRP recovery instead of CWM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467255
Try to flash this file by cwm first and then flash any rom after you want

SM-N9005 International Note 3 4.4.2

Hey guys.
Got an N9005 and just getting really impatient waiting for the Australian XSA rom to be released. It's so close I'm sure but, was wondering if I could perhaps flash a Poland firmware for now then flash an Australian one when it's released with no problems?
In my knowledge, a few years of flashing roms etc, it seems this would update everything including my bootloader, which is fine. Heard also that you cannot go back to any previous version of android after this procedure. Which I find weird, as what if I flashed a 4.3 firmware, wouldn't this revert everything back? Including bootloader?
Anyway, not that I'd want to go back, that was more just to see what the final say was.
Moving on, so I should be able to flash a Poland room for example then update to Australian? As they are official firmware, I shouldn't trip Knox either?
Thanks heaps in advance guys.
Anyone??
Thanks!!

You can flash the Poland firmware while you wait. Almost everybody ran Poland Kitkat when it was first released.
The updated bootloader prevent from downgrading. If you try to do it via odin, the update will fail.
Official firmwares from any region will not trip KNOX.

Ohh sorry, I mean there is a separate model for Optus operator.
In fact there is N9005 that has CSC code is OPS for Optus, and there is N9007 specific for Optus.
May be you have the 1st one.
You can get your Model and CSC code by using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app.

Unbrand Galaxy S5 without tripping Knox

Hello everyone! I've bought a Galaxy S5 some days ago(SM-G900F) but it came with this firmware: KOT49H.G900FFXXU1ANE2,and it is branded by TIM Carrier. Now my question is,I want to un-brand it and install stock OS so I have updates earlier, but I am scared that I could trip KNOX Counter and lose warranty. Anyone has a procedure to do this? Also, will I lose warranty? Thanks in advance, and sorry if this may not be the right section.

There is always a risk when playing around with the firmware no matter the phone make, model and carrier/network. For what it's worth, I got a second hand branded S5 (SM-G900F) and flashed the unbranded UK (BTU) firmware on it after unlocking it using Odin. Knox still intact on mine as far as I can tell, reading "0x0". You might need to reset it a few times and maybe clear DALVIK/ART cache a few times to get the right CSC to appear on the phone and get OTA updates. But again in my experience everything is still working after debranding.

Just download the latest stock firmware United Kingdom / Europe (BTU) from Sammobile,, download Odin then use Odin to flash the BTU firmware, Factory Reset the phone after flashing to set the correct CSC and clear the Caches, flashing a stock rom won't trip KNOX. Flashing Custom roms,Custom Recovery, kernels etc will, staying stock wont.

[Q] Cant downgrade to original kitkat firmware from Lollipop

Hi folks, I have recently updated my Note 3 SM-N9005 from Kitkat 4.4.2 to Lollipop using the BL, CSC, CP AND PIT Files. But I didnt like Lollipop, lots of bug like no NFC, alarm doesnt work with flip cover, gps issue, etc.. So flasked original firmware (O2 Germany) with odin 9 but no luck. After successful installation my Note 3 just stuck at Galaxy Note 3 screen. Even tried factory reset, wipe data not still stuck at the welcome screen. Is there a way to install kitkat original firmware?
You updated the bootloader so no. Just reflash the beta and wait for official update. Or you can try CM11
revert from android 5.0 to 4.4.2
Download this rom with 5 files with pit file and flash with odin, and do a wipe/factory reset before and after, then u can flash latest rom for your phone from sammobile.

Yes, I did that. Your UK firmware (UFNF4) and O2 Germany could install successfully but Note 3 wont boot. However,DBT firware couldnt install, odin gave error is initially installation process. Eventually I had to install leaked lollipop

I think the .pit file for Lollipop makes the system partition smaller, so it's only normal that no KitKat can boot, as to why after flashing a KitKat .pit you can't boot up, I don't know. You could have booted up Lollipop without the .pit for it, you know, I didn't, and I can revert to a KitKat backup anytime without any issues.
But yeah, you might have to stay on Lollipop for a couple more weeks until we get an official update.

Hi, is your issue resolved?
I'd like to tell that I have successfully rolled back to 4.4.2 GNG1 BTU ROM from the Leaked 5.0 ROM.
I had luckily backed up my original PIT file from 4.4.2 ROM before upgrade to Lollipop leak. As there were many bugs with the leak, i decided to restore a Nandroid backup of kitkat. But it failed miserably as all the apps started crashing. So I did a fresh flashing of 4.4.2 GNG1 BTU rom with my Backup PIT file. And now everything is working fine for me.
I have 32GB N9005 model. Let me know if you need the PIT file for the same.
It would be great if you can share the pit file with me. I desperately need to go back to 4.4.2. I too have 32 GB SM-N9005 model from O2 Germany
worked successfully for me
I had same issue when I was downgrading to 4.4.2 , but it worked for me :
1- install leaked Lollipop via pc odin ( no need pit file)
2- boot your phone up and if you see welcome screen it means you still are cool
3- download nad install 4.4.2 GNG1 via pc odin, and dont let it to boot up
4- go to stock recovery mode and wipe your phone
5- reboot your phone and hopefully you will be fine

On my first link i give you, u have the pit file for 4.4.2 and all the files u need to revert to 4.4.2, all u have to do is to download that rar and ur problem is solved.
So guys, I now able to downgrade to 4.4.2. As you have guys suggested, I used pit file sokar_goauld (32GB N9005) and used GNG1 BTU ROM, the way RedApple has suggested. Now everything is back to 4.4.2 though not the German O2 firmware.
Thank you guys!
I have one more question, can I now flash O2 Germany firmware on this GNG1 BTU ROM without any pit file? Seems like O2 Germany bootloader/firmware is an older version, so not sure if further downgrading to original O2 Germany firmware is possible without any issues?
Have a nice weekend.

I am happy for u , and yes, u can flash now ur firmware without pit......u need to use pit only if u change android version, like KK to LL
LE - remember, always wipe clean/factory reset before changing firmware to avoid problems.

That's good!
Now I'm eagerly waiting for the Official Lollipop
Thanks you Guys
I did as ssn1978 did with the suggested files from RedApple and sokar_goauld and i just wanted to say.....
Thank you guys, God bless you
I started losing hope going back to kitkat or even reviving my Note 3 back...

Hi all,

Sorry for possible duplicated question, but after a lot of searches I'm still unable to find clear and reliable answer (
Thank you very much in advance for any help or suggestions!

I'm hunting for a way to debrand in the first place. I have a H3G (Three UK) branded phone and I've not had an update since I got it on March 8th. Still on the February security release.

There's a number of threads stating that using Odin will not trip Knox if you flash any other firmware. I was planning on replacing mine with BTU firmware as it is more up to date as well.
If you flash official firmware with Odin you won't trip Knox.

I'm in a similar position. I'm thinking about flashing another stock to my EE UK S7 Edge. I'm also still on Feb security release and really want to be receiving updates sooner.

You can easily flash ANY stock firmware with odin without issues. Images are available at sammobile and other sources. I´ve debranded my vodafone version to DBT
