Got my Ugoos UM2 Android TV from Dealsprime base of all the good reviews I saw on the web, now how to root the Ugoos UM2 ? no info no where only from Ugoos UT1..
Edited: I Rooted my Ugoos UM2 using Ugoos UT1 method and it work!! all credit goes to aPadTVadmin
'' How to Root the Ugoos UM2 Android TV Stick''
To gain root on the Ugoos UM2 Android , follow these step-by-step instructions below. Before you start following the steps below, download this file pack, which includes the UT1 and UM2 device driver for Windows and the root utility for RK3188 (Ugoos UM2 Root & Drivers File Download link), download the files and extract the two folders:
NOTE: I'm not using it the device drive from above, I'm using Universal USB Drivers
1. Ensure USB Debugging is enabled in the UM2's (Settings/Developer Options/)
2. Connect the Ugoos UM2 to a Windows PC via the UT1's mini-USB port.
3. After you plug-in the USB cable to the PC, the device will be detected and the drivers installed (direct Windows to the folder where the UM2 driver files are located.
4. After the UM2 driver has been successfully installed and the device is detected, go to the folder where you extracted the files and open the RK3188 folder and run the TPSparkyRoot.bat and follow the instructions.
5. After you boot and then reboot the UM2 again (reboot twice) you will then have root access.

You have to select the HDMI (or what it might be) input to be displayed. You can find this at nvidea/ati control center or try FN-F5.

I'm still newbie dealing with Android Stick, right now I'm using Universal USB Drivers and rooted my Ugoos UM2, but still i can't see any folders when I connect my UM2 to my laptop.. Is it not support to boot when you connect any Android Stick to your laptop right?..
- when connect my UM2 to the TV it work, I can see all folder..
- UM2 to laptop the UBS says it connect, but I don't see no folders..
I'd like see someone take it a screenshot of Android Stick to PC or laptop to see how it look.. Thanks

I haven't rooted it yet, I will soon tho, and I've only installed a few video apps. I will try to root over the weekend, and most likely install titanium back up as my first root access app.
I can't get my um2 to connect to any of my PC's.
What am I doing wrong?
I take the USB out of the mains plug with the micro USB still connected to the um2 then plug in to the PC. The device lights up but there is nothing happening on the PC. Not even a peep!
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Managed to get it working.
Had to install Supersu and root explorer from the market but got full root.
What I did was enable USB debugging.
And in USB settings enable Connect to PC
I then jimmied up a male to male USB cable connecting it from the device to the PC.
And I had to power the device from the micro USB to the mains power outlet.
Got there in the end. Hope this will help someone becuase I've found very little on the internet about this.
Thanks

Hey I would really appreciate it if I could get you to expand a little on the method you used here. I understand how to make a m2m cable but it seems to me that connecting the box to a pc via one of the full size usb ports would just create a worthless and possibly harmful server to server connection. Still though, I'm having the exact same problem you were with the pc refusing to recognize the box at all

Just try that method mate. I read somewhere about the Chinese method of doing it being different.
Male to male from device to PC.
Power connector powering the device as normal.
Only way I could get the PC the recognise it and trust me I tried everything.
USB debugging enabled and connect to PC checked in settings.
And I just ran the ut1 root program.
Rooting won't go perfect with that but it is rooted. Just had to install busybox and super su from the playstore and everything was sorted.

The WiFi is kinda weird but I haven't really looked into it too deep. It will not connect to my home WiFi network but it will to my neighbors and my cell phone. Go figure. I have been trying out different iso images from the many downloads but I can't fins one yet that will boot on my old dell dimensions 2400 desktop. One of the error messages that pops up is for the computer model check and of course it fails, among other things. If anyone knows of a download for an iso that will work on at least dell desktop computers, let me know.
If it's broken...beat it into submission until it works!

It wont let me repair, since repair requires reboot, but then GRUB kicks in everytime i reboot, therefore stuck. I popped in the cd and reinstalled Windows.... but lost every program,
this is a bit off topic, but how can i restore everything from my old win7 to my new win7? I tried using the comand prompt in the recovery page, but the programs are still missing, tried just copy and pasting from windows.old folder to current windows folder, no luck.

Be gentle people it's my first post
all the credits go to:
bothlynn from vondroid com
I don't accept any responsibility for loss of warranty, brain cells, hair or your TV stick as a result of following this guide. All I can say is it worked for me on my Jelly Bean version of the MK809 (II)
So here it is for the community, a step-by-step to root this device.
1/ If not already done install Android SDK and make sure it runs. Put the platform-tools directory in your system PATH variable.
download the attachments for the drivers and TS Sparky root hack
3 / Add lines to <Your Android SDK>\extras\google\usb_driver\android_winusb.inf
Under the [Google.NTx86] and [Google.NTamd64] section:
Code:
; WINDOW/YUANDAO MK809
%SingleAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_2207&PID_0010
%CompositeAdbInterface% = USB_Install, USB\VID_2207&PID_0010&MI_01
4/ Connect your MK809 DC port to a high power USB port on your PC or Laptop
on the mk809II its the small microusb port on the left side of the stick
do not connect any other power-source or device to the stick ( with exception of a mouse to control the device).
example:
I found that the supplied micro USB cable caused a bootloop and I changed
to the decent HTC data cable that came with my phone
5/ Once the MK809 is powered up turn on USB Debugging under Developer Settings and allow installations from unknown locations.
In my case. I needed to reset my stick to factory default settings before it enabled USB debugging.
6 / Start the Installation of the PDA.net drivers. When prompted to plug and un-plug your device use the "Connect to PC" option under Settings->USB on your MK809.
After the driver installation is complete you can do a quick test that all is OK so far
by opening a command prompt on your PC and typing "adb shell" and hitting enter.
If all is well you should get a remote adb shell to your MK809II.
If it's not working at this point could be that step 4 above is wrong.
The original TPSparkyRoot.bat file had a bug. I already corrected this by adding a line: in the bat file:
under line "echo --- Installing SuperSU"
adb push SuperSU.apk /system/app/SuperSU.apk
If you did the test at Step 6 make sure that adb shell is exited before proceeding
Also you might want to disconnect and reconnect your MK809 either physically or via Settings->USB
on your MK809 just to make sure of a clean connection before the point of no return
9/ Run the batch file TPSparkyRoot.bat from the shell you opened at Step 8. Note that after each reboot and before you hit space to continue you will need to reconnect your MK809 to the host PC via Settings->USB.
Before entering the spacebar to proceed with the hack
You should now be rooted. It's worth running superSU on your MK809 to update the su binary and superSU itself. Then you're done.

Got my mk809 not the II and very happy. For all newcomers it needs to be very close to your router as WiFi performance isn't great.
Installed xbmc with tv catchup, bbc iPlayer, 4od and 5od together with itv player plug ins, also stream movies from my server (just a win7 netbook) and it works fine.
2 things I want it to do:
Go into standby - don't want it to stay on but don't want to keep unplugging it
Within xbmc set a timer to turn off tv catchup - there is a timer in xbmc but it only works when idle (ie not when streaming tv)
All in all, very happy.

SO no matter what i do 'adb shell' just tells me device not found, allthough i can see it under device manager, any clues? Why do we need PDA net, the program installs itself on the MK809II, but i haven't startet it or anything on the phone, windows client(server?) of PDA net tells me HTC error, or something like it, is this normal?
Oh and one more thing, i have installed the latest version of FW from mk809 homepage, if i remember correctly it is dated 15/12 2012.
Within the first 20 minutes that i had this MK809II stick it crashed on me, i then took the FW above and flashed it through recovery, now after searching a bit i found links to older FW, and also a FW that is claimed to be a specific recovery FW, rk3066_T002_Launcher2_public_20121119, maybe i should flash that one first, and then maybe upgrade to latest or the one named rk3066_mk809_Launcher2_public_TFupgrade_20121121.zip?

Yes i've tried 3 different cables, one is my original Samsung cable, and usb debug is enabled, how do i know if Android SDK is really using the updated .inf file? Do anyone actually have and older official recovery image, it is impossible to download the whole package from official site, download just die on my after just a few Kb.
Could the problem be that i am running 64bit version of windows?
[Edit] Since i ran Recovery update on my device, i installed the official Rockbus driver, could this maybe fxxx it up? I will try to install windows x86 on my MBP, see if that works better.
[Edit2] Ok tried win 7 x86 on my mac, same symptoms, only thing to try is to get an recovery firmware and flash it first.
[EDIT3] So anyone have the old fw lying around?
I do have same thoughts, how do we know that the modified .inf is been used?!
I also tried several cables, debug and unkown sources are enabled. Also the pda.net soft gets installed on the stick.
Btw: i tried it from win7 32bit.
I used the sdk from developer.android.com/sdk, downloaded 4.1 aditions through sdk manager

Just a little edit on the post. Had the same issues with the adb shell. Device not found. My first opinion was a conflict with a former driver on my desktop. I also disabled the pdanet app in the right notification bar in Windows .
On the stick I enabled android debugging. Right after that connect to usb.
The adb shell gave te same error. But the batch file for the TS sparky hack did work. It Right away rebooted the stick.
After that I just needed to enable the connect to usb option on the stick before proceeding with the batch file.

Nice to see.
don't know wy the adb shell is giving the error.. but the hack works...
Okay, So I bought this new Nexus 7 about a week ago. It was used but the person I bought it from was trustworthy. It came pre-rooted and unlocked. Anyways, my Windows 8 laptop WILL NOT recognize it no matter what I do.
Let me start off by saying, I am no novice to Android. My main device is a Verizon Galaxy s4, and it was the S3 before that. Both phones I did lots of modding and theming on them, and always running a custom rom. I have adb installed and working on my computer as well.
Now the problem. When I plug in my Nexus into my laptop, nothing happens. It doesn't make the usual windows device plugged in sound or anything, and it doesn't show up as a drive in Windows explorer. Even if I open up the device manager and then plug in my Nexus nothing shows up. Not even the "device not recognized" thing. Nor do I get a notification in the Nexus statusbar saying it's plugged in as a media device.. Though the battery DOES charge.
I have tried enabling usb debugging and toggling back and forth from MTP to PTP and still nothing. Tried it w/out USB debugging as well. Nothing.
Tried plugging it in while in fastboot.. Nothing.
I even downloaded the Google drivers through the Android SDK manager and since it doesn't show up as any device in device manager I can't uninstall them and update with the new drivers. This is soo soo sooo frustrating. Obviously it was able to connect to a computer at some point because they rooted and unlocked it, but now I get nothing. I've tried 4 or 5 different computers, Windows 7 AND Windows 8. And even more USB cables.
Can somebody please please shed some light on this?
It's soo frustrating not being able to use ADB with my new device or even do simple file transfers. Right now I'm using Airdroid to move files around but it's agonizingly slow and worthless for moving big files like Roms and whatnot.
And before you say it.. YES I have searched and found no definitive answers even though I KNOW other people have had this problem.
Someone help please?
C'mon... Somebody..:? Anybody?
Try this. Plug it in via USB as you would. Then unlock your nexus 7 and it should up, works for me lol.

Tried this too. I've been using the new factory cable and it doesn't work. I've tried five different cables and different usb ports. Also tried factory resetting and different roms as well.
Couple of things to try:
1 - Go through Device manager (Start -> Right Click My Computer -> Manage) - And remove anything and everything to do with Android, or Nexus etc.
2 - Plug in device, if nothing happens right click The top of "Device Manager" - Which should be your computer name - And click "Scan for hardware changes"
If this doesn't work, try to download WugFresh ToolKit, and install the drivers through his ToolKit, I had issues like this when I first got my Nexus, trying all different things and random drivers, my only way to fix it was going through WugFresh toolkit and downloading his drivers. Good luck

Thanks alot man. I do have Wigfreshes toolkit, i just haven't really done much with it. I will try all this when I get home though. Sounds like a good method to try. The device came pre-rooted and unlocked, all I had to do was flash recovery through goo. I'm running Vanilla root box night lies and they are great. I'm just really worried about getting in a bootloop or softbricked since there is no battery to pull, and i can't connect to my computer to unbrick. If it happens I'll be waaaay up the creek with no hope for a paddle.
Thanks alot.
Here is the latest Android Composite ADB Interface Driver straight from SDK instead of toolkit.

If you are worried about ROM failing, installing MultiRom is highly recommended. Not indifferent to partitioning a hard drive and installing multiple operating systems on a PC, MultiRom is indispensable when experimenting. If one ROM doesn't boot, simply boot from another or to your stock rooted.

Haha, thanks for the help, but I wish it were that simple. It was a first Gen Nexus7 by the way too.
I'm no novice to the ways of Android, and i tried everything under the sun to get it to work. Nothing Would make it show up on the computer.
Anyways, it just ended up turning off one day (with a fully charged battery too) and wouldn't turn back on. I ended up calling Asus and they repaired it for me. It had a burnt out USB port. They fixed it and it's up and running fine now.
Long story short, be careful what you buy on eBay one, and two, Asus has EXCELLENT customer support. From the day I called them to the time I got it back fully repaired only took 7 days exactly. And I didnt have to pay for shipping. If you ever have a problem with an Asus product don't hesitate to call them.
I just solved my problem. The Nexus 7 was not showing up in the device manager and windows explorer. Once usb plugged it would charge but do nothing.. In device manager I found "ACER Composite ADB Interface". I googled it and this is the problem. apparently Windows update install this thing but it doesn't work with the Nexus 7. You have to uninstall it (don't forget to check the delete from computer box or else it will reinstall itself). Then look for this : ASUS Android Composite ADB Interface Driver 8.0.0.1 for Windows 7 64-bit and download it.(sorry I can't post links)
Now with your Nexus 7 plugged in update your driver by selecting the browse my computer option and locate the file you just downloaded and there you go it should work. After months of searching it's finally working. :victory:
I use the Stock ROM, Kernel, when I plug in the USB, there are nothing happen in my PC.
I've tried differen USB port, different cable and different PC. i can charge, but PC cannot read my Nexus
Also, I've tried to enable and dsiable the USB debug, the MTP/ also useless.....:crying:
I know this issue. Sometimes my PC also wont recognized my Nexus. I switch between mtp and ptp a few times while connected to the pc and and plug the cable in and out and after some times it works again.
But to be sure, all necessary driver are installed and there is this sound, when you connect the nexus to your pc?

Try this:
Plug your phone in. Find it in the device manager (look for the yellow triangle). Right click, and choose "Update Driver Software ...". Choose "Browse my computer for driver software". Choose "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer". Scroll down and pick "portable devices", click Next. Choose Standard MTP Device > MTP USB Device. When it warns you that things may go tits up, click yes anyway.

Have you tried to do a factory reset? If not make a backup and go for a try.
Backup without a USB connection can be done through bluetooth (sloooow) or Wifi (much faster than bluetooth). I like to copy large files to/from my N4 with ES File Explorer.

A thought just came to me: have you tried to look for the device while it is at the bootloader screen or at recovery mode?
If not, give it a try:
note: while at the bootloader screen the touchscreen does not respond, this is by design – or lack thereof. to manipulate you can swith options with volume up or volume down and choose an option with the power button. to quit this screen use the volume rockers to choose "Start" or "Power off". The former will resume the normal boot sequence while the later will, as you should expect, turn off the device.
1. turn off and unplug the device, if it is pluged.
2. hold down volume down and power. keep holding until it vibrates or you se the big open android with lots of text information. this is the bootloader screen.

You should be seen something like this - Nexus 4 bootloader screen
3. now plug the device to the computer. it should recognize the device and eventually install/apply some drivers.
If that happened and the device got recognized by the PC you can do the next step: go to the recovery mode. To do this follow on.
4. using the volume rockers choose the "Recovery mode" option and with the power button choose it.
You will see something like this - Nexus 4 stock recovery mode
If that happened you should get the device recognized again and new drivers installed.
If this happens we will be very close to be able to use the USB to copy the backup to the PC. Let us know if all goes as planned.
To quit the recovery mode just press and hold the power button until the device turns off, 5 to 10 seconds.

I've tried before. no response......
So I'm pretty sure that the USB function is gone....
got to admit it sounds like there are some good ideas here but you seem to be sure that your phone usb port is done. Ok if this is the issue you can always use ES File Explorer and share the folder you want on your pc and use the LAN function on ES explorer to transfer files over wifi.
Secondly I had a similar issue and download minimal adb and fastboot which found drivers for me to use adb on my phone which again will help you transfer files. Hopefully you dont respond to me like others with I tried that already.... LOL

yes I think my USB PORT is done too. so I decide to repair it by myself because the fee is about HKD $200...:crying:
In case you want to give it one last shot i had a similar problem when i first purchased my nexus 4.
The first time I connected it to the PC (Windows 7) I had USB debugging enabled and it recognized it (I.E made the sound when connecting it and started charging it) but could not access the storage via MTP or Camera. When turning off USB debugging I could access it as a camera but not as Media storage. I kept installing and uninstalling the USB drivers in windows. Eventually after many attempts causing frustration to build up, I clicked on cancel on the installing drivers and to my amazement the PC recognized it as MTP and I could transfer files. To this day I continue to use the same configuration and have not touched the drivers.
I don't know how or why this worked, I just know that it did.
Good Luck.

Whenever I connect my phone to my computer via USB, it says "USB Device not recognized". I look in my device manager and I see 4 devices come up called "Bluetooth Peripheral Device" show up under "Other devices", yet they got yellow warning symbols next to them.
My phone connects to my PC via Bluetooth fine, but the USB just wont work! I've searched the web but most things are outdated or just don't work...
I think this is due to using an OTG cable, making my phone act as the host device whenever I plug it in?
Extra detail:
-PC is running Windows 7 ultimate x64
-Samsung Galaxy S5 is on Android 5.0, but didn't work on previous versions either
-I use the samsung cable, but have also tried one other cable.
-Tried plugging it into another computer, does the exact same thing.

Try these options,
1. Control Panel > Devices & Printers then plug in your phone and you should get an Unknown Device appear, right click on it and select Troubleshoot and run that process to see if that sorts out the problem.
2. Start your computer in safe mode then try installing the driver manually that way, then reboot your PC normally.
Registry solution if you want to try it as long as you understand Windows Registry
1. Go to the Registry Editor click Start > Run > and type in regedit then hit Enter
2. Expand the folder location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
3. Find EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A in the folder list and click on it, this should say Portable Devices in the right window
4. See if it contains a value called UpperFilters if so delete it
5. Before you delete it though make a backup of the EEC5AD98-8080-425f-922A-DABF3DE3F69A folder, right click on it and Export to a folder just in case you need to restore it.
6. To restore the key if you need to just go to the folder where you exported it to and click on it to install

You are having a problem with this aren't you.
If you have Kies installed uninstall it also plug in your phone and find it in the list of USB Devices, then right click select properties and uninstall the driver, unplug the phone and reboot your PC.
Once rebooted Temporarily turn off any firewalls and Anti Virus scanners and try the below
Install Kies 3, start Kies and check for updates, if there are any updates then install them.
Restart Kies 3 after any update, once its running plug in your phone and let the drivers install
If its worked properly Kies will see it, if not then check the USB devices and try to install the driver manually again
Don't forget to use the USB cable that came with the phone
