This seem to be quite an issue for many people who received the HDX. You can look on this youtube to see what problem I'm talking about. If you have one now, please check if your is affected. Mine is. And don't bother contact via email, because even though it said you get a response in 12 hours, I have waited 2 days and still no response.
Superb response from Amazon

I detected this issue on my new HDX this morning and went on-line to report it and file for a replacement. After some brief questions about my unit, the rep sent me a quick email with a return authorization and return shipping label. He stated that Amazon will send out my replacement today without waiting for my returned unit.
I will get it day after tomorrow.
Couldn't ask for better service. Here's hoping for a better unit.
Yeah mine has it too. Going to wait a week before I return it so maybe all the first ones that had the problem will be gone. I bought mine at best buy. Btw I told mayday about it as well lol.

Hi, mine has the same issue, did the same procedure and got an "it's a feature not a bug, and we are not replacing any units" for an answer. I wonder how amazon is deciding which units to replace and which won't get a replacement.

Amazon can issue the replacement if you push the issue. I did. You can always argue that it's not a feature to display the apps or websites in a way that those creators not intended. Also, it's kinda hard to say it's a feature that only some people get it and some people don't, especially when you can pick and choose to have that feature or not.

This is a very good reply.
In the event, I didn't have to get pushy: it was enough to speak firmly, express my disappointment and describe the exact problem succinctly. I did have to confirm that the unit had not been dropped and wasn't broken in any other respect.
Blue glow
Amazon says blue light is normal. We may like or dislike it, but as they say, that's not a defect.
You may notice a very narrow, faint blue tint around the edge of the device when looking at items with a white background, such as books or web pages. All displays have some level of light emission around the edges, and the light on the Kindle Fire HDX 7" is blue due to the technology used to render perfect color accuracy. Most LCD displays use white LEDs, and then apply filters to extract the desired color. The result is oftentimes a compromise to tone and color accuracy, or—if attempting to address these compromises—an increase in battery consumption and, thus, device weight.

Please, refer to "We want you to know" topic on HDX page for details.

Is the hue evenly distributed around the edges?
I have no problem with the story that it's normal, except that how come it's normal to have the blue hue on the edge of the screen for some HDX and other don't? I'm OK with the "NORMAL" one w/o the blue hue like some other customer get also. In fact, Amazon is welcome to put that up as an option like whether people want 16/32/64GB, wifi/LTE or with/without special offer. Just one more option that ask whether you want the blue hue or not is fine by me. So I can pick the one w/o.
No replacements? Can you still return for a refund?
I just received the replacement, and it's still the same problem. I'll wait until Monday and decide whether to return or not. I most likely will return it.
Do not know if there are devices without blue glow. My HDX is with it but I did not find it irritating. BTW my previous KF had white glow. Of course on white background white glow is not as noticeable.
If we believe Amazon, we should rather regard HDX without glow as a defective one and ask for replacement.
I went to my local BestBuy and the demo had the hue. Went to Staples and the demo there was not as bad, but there. I am planning on getting the 8.9 and hope it does not have this hue!
Good One

Heh..you're right. My replacement came in yesterday and, if anything, the blue fringe on white backgrounds is more noticeable. Still, I don't actually spend much time staring at the google home page or similar white screens, so in the end it doesn't bother me much. I use my Kindle for XBMC, Facebook, email, internet and the occasional Virtua Tennis session. And I love it as much as my 2nd Gen Nexus 7.

it‘s a design issue.
LCM Backlight design issue.
but the lab126 guys seems not find a batter way to sovle it
Amazon explains the technology used on the HDX and why there is a bluish line on the HDX order page (under the In Stock line):
We want you to know...
The Kindle Fire HDX 7" has perfect color accuracy (100% sRGB), and we wanted to share more details around our display design decisions that helped us achieve this.
The result is oftentimes a compromise to tone and color accuracy, or-if attempting to address these compromises-an increase in battery consumption and, thus, device weight.
We've taken a different approach. To achieve the perfect color accuracy on Kindle Fire HDX 7" at the lowest possible battery consumption and device weight, we used blue, not white, LEDs. Blue LEDs allow for a much more accurate and rich representation of color and result in an up to 20% improvement in power efficiency.
The replacement I got is pretty bad, it bleed as much as 1/2 inch on one side and 1/4 inch on the opposite side. That's like 10% of the screen is not function properly or unable to display color properly. Forget the Amazon claim,
Perfect Color
Both the 7" and 8.9" Kindle Fire HDX displays feature perfect color (100% sRGB), displaying images and videos as the photographer or videographer intended.

I'm an amateur photographer and I absolutely hate it. On a normal screen, although not 100% accurate, it's at least even out the entire screen, even if there is a light bleed it's very minimal that's unnoticeable. Imagine shooting a picture in the forest and the grasses near the front change from green to cyan. Or shooting a high key picture and it turn blue near the edge. That totally ruin the atmosphere. Try google for the 'high key photography' images and look that on the HDX screen. My other usage involve reading comic book which this HDX totally botched as well.
I really want to get the 7" HDX, but I'm going to hold off until this "Blue slice of death" issue is resolved. I have a 1st Gen HD and a 1st Gen Fire (Hacked). Between the BSOD, the battery issues, the angled inputs, I think this HDX was rushed to market and is not up to Amazon quality.
The reason for the blue hue was explained a few posts above. It's not a defect or rushed manufacturing. For better picture/battery it's a compromise I'm willing to make. This screen is gorgeous and the blue is barely noticeable.

I my case, I wouldn't call something that take 10% of the screen 'barely noticeable'. Both side combined, it's larger than the notification bar.

This is the second transformer I have purchased, received directly from amazon not even a reseller... This one the box has nasty finger smudges all over it and looks as if the box had been opened... but
Anyways... The issue being with this one is that (4) of the backlights are visable at all screen brightnesses. I did not have this issue on the other one I had (screen was flickering like short in the unit somewhere, so decided to return and order new one seeing as it would be faster then RMA)
Not sure if this is normal or if this is another reason to return this device as it seems like quality control seems to be an issue with this product.
Just seems annoying that is what I focus on all the time and not sure if this is normal or if I got yet another defective unit...
Please let me know if yours looks like this otherwise I believe I am returning this one and ordering another. This is unacceptable to me.
I just recieved another transformer from amazon today too. I sent the other one back and purchased this one. Both of the transformers have the same light bleeding like what you have. The one i just recieved today has a lil more light bleeding than the one i sent back. I'm keeping this one. Not going to send it back anymore.
That looks pretty bad. I have some backlight bleeding, but I have to go out of my way to see it (max out the brightness in a dark room).
Here is a picture of mine. And this is basically the worst possible combinations of maximum brightness, completely dark room, and solid black wallpaper.
The light bleed is only a little noticeable on the lower left side and maybe a bit in the upper right. But what is annoying me is if you look closely there is a small light color blotch in the middle lower area of the screen. Argh!
This is the second Transformer I had and the second one with some really odd screen defect.
already requested to ship back to amazon... this sucks!!! but when trying to watch a movie the bleed is horrible.
I wish my original one from walmart didn't have a short in the screen (as you moved it the screen would turn on and off) because that one was otherwise perfect 100% no screen bleeding even on 100% brightness!

I'd return that. That looks horrid. You pay for something and expect to be flawless. Now I mean if this was on display and someone tried to sell you it, you wouldn't have bought it if it came with that flaw now would you.
Yeah, I'm going to return mine. I bought it from a local Fry's Electronics and I got about 10 more days left to do the return. And they don't have anything in stock to exchange with.
I'm still struggling with if I want to exchange or get a refund and buy something else instead. Need a few more days to think it over (and maybe a look at a few more Galaxy Tab 10.1 reviews).

I understand. But it seems like my odds of getting a defect free tablet may be higher with some manufactures than others.
My iPad was perfectly fine, first try. I've had two Xooms, both were perfect pieces of hardware (just too heavy and too expensive). My luck hasn't been as good with ASUS though.
Problem is both of the tablets I want seem to have manufacturing problems. I like the Galaxy Tab 10.1 too (though the lack of micro SD is why I bought the Transformer). But even Samsung seems to be having manufacturing problems with theirs too. Seems like far too many Google IO owners have their glass popping out of their bezel. Ugh. And it's looking like the production Wifi model has this issue too.
Well i deliberately wasnt lookig for issues and i can say the bleed is worse on the tf than my ipad 2. Also, of all sites, this forum craaaaaawls on it. Laggy as hell
XDA seems to really hate Android browsers. Haha. Opera Mini works MUCH better here though.
I thought I'd post a sample of the light bleed vs iPad 2. Both at 100% which frankly I'd never use this dark. However, the other shot is 50%.
I kept them small rather than two megs each. IMHO neither is acceptable at the price point. The tf changes with pressure the iPad 2 doesn't. The transformer is worse.
I have bad luck with screens. Also there are about ten stuck pixels seen on a black screen, I'm sure more if I run the color range.
Would you keep it? Don't think I will be. :/ and the iPad is getting exchanged.
O.K. mine issues:
Light bleeds on bottom right and right side of screen (on bottom left there is not such bleed as on picture this is kind of photo rendering issue)
http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/7805/32268220.jpg
Two defective spots of pixels on dark screen only
http://img851.imageshack.us/img851/3120/22912128.jpg
Zoomed defective pixels..
http://img812.imageshack.us/img812/7434/72512206.jpg
But I notice this in only %1 in my daily use, because I am not using it in dark room on dark screen at full brightness
What bothers me more is speaker disbalance (right is normal left is only 30% as loud as right). But if I have to wait for RMA I won`t take it to RMA because I just love it too much and don`t want to wait for stupid RMA.. Maybe I will give it to RMA after 23 months (in Lithuania there is 2 Year warranty)
BTW I contacted seller and waiting for answer and if they will not exchange it i will live with these issues
P.S. speaker test:
yah i noticed thatpressure on the back increasesthe bleeding but my photo was with no pressure. And dam this site lags on this transformer.
Still returning...sadly
just received my 3rd one in today. few dead pixels throughout the screen and then one big area that is washed out about the size of my thumb.
amazon refused to exchange this one and now says i have to go through asus. BULLSH**
i have to return mine due to the backlight as well, its got a bleed that seems like its getting worse every day.
also from amazon! i really dont want to send it back either

yah returned the 3rd one. amazon refuses to send me another one. says its likely to be DOA based on my past experience... wtf...
Hello.
I wanted to share my experience... I love my Kindle Fire. It's an awesome little device. Even not taking into account the ridiculous price ^^
I love gaming in it, browsing, and fiddling with customization stuff in ADW Launcher EX.
But I noticed shortly after I received it that the screen was kind of funky. After displaying a still graphic or text for a couple of minutes, the image becomes "burned" in the screen around all borders, about half an inch into the screen. It is most noticeable by switching to a flat neutral color... The easiest way to check it is by bringing down the notifications overlay, which has a gray background. At first I thought that the notifications tray was kind of transparent, but that is not the case.
My 2 brothers also bought Kindle Fires, so I compared mine to theirs and found out that my screen is completely different. Colors are more greenish, and it seems brighter when looking at it perpendicularly. However, when looking at it at an angle, it loses a lot of brightness, which the other screens did not.
So I contacted Amazon tech support, and after doing just a cold reboot, they sent me a replacement kindle fire (which i'm currently waiting on)...
This leads me to think that this is a known issue. Maybe Amazon has 2 different screen suppliers, and one of them is of crappy quality. I recommend checking your screen against another KF, or at least checking to see if it has the "burned image" problem... You can do so by displaying a webpage, preferably white bg and black text, for 5 minutes still. Then bring down the notifications tray. If you see the "ghost" of the letters and graphics, then your screen is like mine and you should ask amazon for a replacement device.
Hope this helps someone!
Cheers.
haha damn... I was so sure there were no other threads about this. Not even google brought up any other posts talking about this. Still, more info on the topic is better, right? ^^ Sorry!

I threw our the other forum link because there's a few pictures and a link to Amazon'sessage boards with customers that have similar issues.
I went "OOO" when I saw your post though because the observations about the Kindle were similar to mine.
It's either multiple component suppliers or really bad QC or a combination of the two. I returned both of my Kindles and might wait it out for something else.
I hate LCD display raffles. The odds of getting two that are completely different ones seem pretty high or it's an extreme coincidence.

Yeah, it's really annoying to get a bad LCD... It has happened to me with Dell laptops, but never with mobile devices.
My particular issues with the Kindle don't seem to be exactly the same as other people, since they only get dead pixels, light bleed or weird color temps. None (that I know of) have noticed image ghosting or poor viewing angles on their devices. Maybe this thread can work as a warning to check for these particular signs so you can see if you got an inferior LCD panel in your kindle.
I really like this device, kudos to Amazon for introducing a whole new price point for android tablets... But they should continue to acknowledge and take responsibility for poor quality items. And people should be aware of the issue so they can ask for a refund or replacement unit.
However, when looking at it at an angle, it loses a lot of brightness, which the other screens did not.

Definitively sounds like a bad screen. IPS display panels (which kindles are supposed to have), should have a near 180 degree viewing angle without loss of image. That sounds more like what you get with a TN panel (what cheaper displays [sub 300-400 dollars in terms of desktop displays] typically use). Either the IPS display was damaged somehow in the process of making it or they stuck the wrong kind of panel on it.
IPS displays are also exceptionally bright. If any of you are experience "too much" light bleed all the time then that is generally not a defect. Read on:
Light bleed around the edges is typical for IPS displays (which nearly all tablets, touchscreen phones (minus the OLED ones like samsung's) and high end desktop/laptop displays are). The solution is basically turn down the brightness (because IPS monitors are also exceptionally bright). I have 3 IPS desktop monitors (HP2475 and 2 HP2335) and 2 IPS tablets (HP touchpads) and one phone and the brightness on all are around 30-35%.
Even ipads have the issue, because they too, are IPS displays (and so are iphones). Just random information..."retina" is just a fancy marketing buzzword for "high resolution IPS display."
Light bleed tends to obviously be more noticeable on dark backgrounds such as black. If it's really noticeable, your display is most likely too bright.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPS_panel
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_crystal_display#In-plane_switching_.28IPS.29
The kindle fire uses LG displays, (same supplier to many HP products, Apple, HTC and others). That should be a good thing, but defects do happen. Just another random fact...there's only a handful of IPS display panel manufacturers (LG, Sony/Samsung [a partnership], a few chinese outfits and maybe another Japanese one). Reason being the cost to make them mostly. Most monitors are just displays from those companies re-branded and wrapped in a monitor shell.
The single most expensive subsystem in the Kindle Fire is the display and touch screen, at a combined cost of $87.00, or 46.9 percent of the BOM. Amazon sources the display from two companies: LG Display and E Ink Holdings. The display uses E Ink’s FFS technology, which LG Display has licensed.

Has anybody else noticed a dark patch on the edge of their screen? Along the top side of my screen, I can see it going off white when browsing a website in portrait mode for example.
It's like the back light isn't working properly there or something. Anybody else got this, should I get a replacement?
It's not hugely visible but it's noticeable on a white screen at any brightness level
Idk, it's up to you. I have light bleed in my right hand corner that is always visible, unless your in a well lit room on 0% brightness. I can't decide whether or not I want to send mine back though because of how common these backlighting issues seem to be.
Yeah. Mine is flawless otherwise. Its so barely noticeable I think I'll just get used to it.
Same ha ha, other people can't even spot it when i point it out to them on auto-brightness.
Yes, I noticed mine right away, but like others have said, its hardly noticeable. It doesn't bother me at all...
Sent from my Nexus 10 baby!
Same thing here. Most noticeable on a solid white background. I'm starting to think it's not a lighting problem but something to do with the way the panel is manufactured. If I hold the tablet in landscape so it's perpendicular to my face with my eyes lined up with the camera, the brightness is even across the panel. As soon as I tilt the bottom towards me, the brightness falls along the top edge. Makes it seem more like a viewing angle issue related to the way the layers are assembled or maybe a difference in pressure on the panel along that edge.
I decided to live with it because it's very rare that I have an app running in full screen that puts a light background across that area.
Same issue for me as well

I had the same issue with my first unit, did RMA and got second one. Second one had the exact same issue. Finally decided to get refund. The play store customer support said that there were few people reporting it already. This might be a design issue as well- the way device is tapered differently at the edges(backlight might not be aligned properly), two strong magnets near camera etc. Just speculating.
Dark patch here too. RMA process underway. 1/3 of screen has yellow tint. Noticeable when reading on white background. Annoyance.

Keep us posted on the replacement device!
Same problem here. I received my Nexus 10 yesterday and notice dimming primarily (exclusively?) along the long edges. While reading a web page with a white background in portrait mode I found myself wondering if chrome was adding a gradient to the edges for some stylistic effect, but realized that made no sense. I observed the same problem with Firefox, and then I installed a screen testing app and observed the dimming with a solid white screen.
It sounds like this is probably a manufacturing/design error. Now I have to decide whether it's worth the rigmarole of exchanging the device, probably to no effect. I guess this is the risk you take when purchasing a device sight-unseen.
If you bought it from a store it would still be unseen, since it would be in the box. I had the same problem with the iPad 3. It took me three exchanges to get one with an acceptable screen. All of them had dark, blotchy, yellow patches. By all accounts it's due to the adhesive glue they use. We shall see what the replacement brings. Order is currently at the 'pending' stage.
I also have this on my screen. Right side when in portrait mode. You can't see it in landscape, which is weird. My wife and I have decided to keep it, though, as everything else about it is perfect. Plus, this defect, if you want to call it that, does not detract from our enjoyment and uses.

To clarify, I meant that I'd never had the opportunity to use *any* Nexus 10 in person. Had I done so, and noticed the dim edge, it would have at least raised the possibility that there was a design or manufacturing issue.
Speaking of which, I examined an in-store Nook HD+ display unit yesterday and what do you know: it had the same dim edge issue.
By the way, where did you hear about the adhesive glue explanation?

Mine has--I assume--the same dimness along the entire length starting about 1/4" from the bezel along the "top" camera edge. It is actually somewhat distracting when reading a book in portrait mode. If I flip the screen around so that the dimness is on the left edge, for some reason I find it much less annoying. Unsure if this is a warranty replacement issue though. I haven't found another Nexus10 to see in person yet.

It was all over the iPad forums when the iPad3 came out. Plenty of people with dodgy screens. Some reported success in leaving brightness turned up to max and plugged in for 24hrs etc to dry. But may have been placebo. It could also be an entirely different cause other than adhesive. After all, what do I know? In any case, mine's heading back, but the replacement is still stuck on 'pending'
I had a rare bit of luck. Somebody sat next to me on the bus yesterday evening and pulled out an oddly familiar black tablet. I explained the problem I was having and asked if I could examine his Nexus 10. His device had a perfect display, with no detectable dimming near the edges. So the issue appears to be a manufacturing defect, not a design flaw, and something that could in principle be solved with a replacement unit.
I called Google last night and have my RMA email. I'll ship it off this weekend.

I would love it if you would come back and post if the replacement has or does not have the issue.
Hello,
I have received Google Nexus 10 and it seems like the seal was broken, which suggests that somebody else has already used it (or at least unpacked).
I guess that the only known "big issue" is the light bleed. Could somebody tell me, step by step, how to determine it? (e.g. how to load all black screen? What brightness should I use to check it?). I am trying to judge whether to keep the tablet or not.
Thank you for help,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImRlLmxhcHBlLnRpbS5hbmRyb2lkLmxjZHRlc3QiXQ..
go to the pure black and then play around with the brightness (set it to max).
You'll almost certainly going to see some but this should help you decide if it's a deal breaker for you.
the darker the room the better aswell! if you are in a pitch dark room and only see little light bleed at max brightness then have a little smile to yourself and enjoy the nexus!

Hello,
I have received Google Nexus 10 and it seems like the seal was broken, which suggests that somebody else has already used it (or at least unpacked).
I guess that the only known "big issue" is the light bleed. Could somebody tell me, step by step, how to determine it? (e.g. how to load all black screen? What brightness should I use to check it?). I am trying to judge whether to keep the tablet or not.
Thank you for help,
Theriel

So what is light bleed that matters?
I know the OP's question is on testing for bleed, but want to respond to help those wondering whether what they're seeing in their tests is normal or a defect that a replacement unit might solve . . .
Starting with a couple of suggested definitions:
'Light bleed' is a significant unevenness in screen lighting/brightness that's irritating in normal use – like scalloping along the edges, or being a lot brighter or darker on one side. Separately, let's call it 'black glow' when what's intended to be jet black on a screen doesn't appear completely black.
If you search the Web for 'light bleed' and the name of any major tablet, you'll find plenty of references to this. When examining your tablet, for context do the same with your laptop, LCD monitor, and LCD TV, for all are subject to the same concerns. No screen technology is perfect. Lighting on all LCD screens varies somewhat depending on the angle you look at it, and some level of 'black glow' is normal too.
Looking at your all-black screen in a dark room with the brightness turned up can be a useful test to verify problems if you find concerns that affect normal usage. This is a worst-case-scenario video test, and when you test your other LCD-screen devices this way, you are bound to see 'black glow'.
A lot of cell phones (mostly Samsung) have AMOLED screens that don't need screen backlighting & thus don't have 'black glow' – each pixel is a light and blacks can truly be black. But these screens are limited to smaller devices – the largest are two lower-resolution 7.7" units; you can't buy a 10" AMOLED tablet. With LCD's, note that the larger the screen & the higher the resolution, the brighter the backlight (really, it's on the edge) needs to be.
There are definitely defective units out there, and some that aren't as even as others. Hopefully this adds context to the discussion and will help folks new to the issue decide whether their unit is bad enough to be worth exchanging . . .

Mine is faintly noticeable all the time with auto brightness on. I asked for an RMA and it was 2-3 times as bad. I think I will keep this one. As of now looking at it really bothers me, but I know in a few months once this device has some wear it won't matter to me. However I am still debating on attempting to receive a refund and possibly buying it in the stores in a few months. Hmmm lol.
Thank you all for your informative responses.
I am attaching the pictures of my case. I guess I will have to return it - although you cannot see in the light and with non-black background, it is pretty annoying when the background is black and the ambient light is a bit dimmer...
What would you do in my case ? How does this case compare to your cases?
Thank you,
Theriel
my orignal device has servere light bleed on the left corner and my replacement device has servere light bleed on the right corner... 3rd one is on the way, please Google, give me a acceptable screen before the world ends!!
I do not think there is any point of returning it. It seems liek light bleed is inherent in the design of these tablets. I have two right in front of me, the second one has even worse light bleed. I shall be keeping the first one. Does any one know if they will charge my card for the second one. It seems like they charged me card, then a days before I got a second nexus 10, they removed the charged.
I was expecting a courier to pick up my old nexus 10. But no one has. Any one else in the same situation with 2 nexus 10s?

They will place another hold of the price of the device until the rma'd unit has returned to them. It would take another 7 days until the hold is released from what was explained to me. So at the moment for me they have 1k of my money on hold because the original is in route to them now and I had just ordered the replacement for the replacement!
You will have to setup a pickup or go to the nearest UPS facility to return your defective unit.

Yes, I was thinking that. But they do not have any of my money on hold. They did but then it was returned back?! Keep checking my account. I thought they were going to organise the collection of my old devise. Seems like i shall give them a ring. They may charge my card again!
So... what do you think about my case (see photos in the previous post)? How does it compare to the "average Nexus 10" you have/have seen? Is it "ok" or "one of the worst cases" or... ?
I am not sure if it is not worth waiting 2-3 weeks for a new tablet, as opposed to holding onto a defective one for a few years...

Your one looks bad!
@OP: It seems the question should be whether your screen looks great to you in normal use or not. If lighting evenness irritates under normal use, *then* the dark room/full-black screen test can confirm what you're seeing. Is only time you see a funny pattern when testing the thing this way?
We can't really know if a picture taken with a typical camera in a dark room really reflects how you see the image; most cameras normally crank the gain up 'till there's some kind of funny colored image. My screen is a bit brighter in the lower right when running this test -- which I see as nothing more than an interesting detail about how the backlighting works, it's completely irrelevant to me in normal use. If your picture really does reflect what you experience, and it affects normal usage . . . yep, it's worse than mine.
The easiest way you can get context for what you're seeing is probably to run the same test on any laptop or tablet you can get ahold of -- makes sense that you don't want your tablet to come up short when compared to what you see first-hand on other LCD screens. That's probably a lot better way to decide!
Hey,
Thought we could have a thread to document Light bleed and how it varies between device (apparently).
Here's a potato quality version of mine: http://imgur.com/YzFs4uy
It's not too bad but I can notice it on dark screens particularly the bottom left corner and top right. Wondered if it's worth RMA'ing or if this is similar to what people have on theirs. If it's bad by the average then I'll return.
Just thought this could be a useful resource.
Wow, that's bad! Mine is barely notable, only on the top it is visible of the status bar is colored.
I've just started the RMA process for my Nexus 9 because of the light bleeding right across the whole top edge of the display (and because I can't increase the volume on it without digging a nail into the button!).
I though I could ignore it but with the way all the material design apps colour in the status bar they status bar looked like it was always a gradient as opposed to a solid block colour.
I was in two minds whether or not to RMA it or not but came to the conclusion that if I went today to trade it in at a shop (for money or in part exchange for another product) with the condition of the screen and the button I wouldn't even get the a top trade in value for it even though it's only 2 days old.
I'm hoping that the unit that gets sent out to me is in a much better condition.

Mind posting a photo? Didn't think mine was that bad really? Think the potato quality might make it worse.

How was it in comparison to my picture? Not sure if to RMA or not?
There is already a thread in the help section with quite a few pics and posts of people with light bleed.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-9/help/notice-light-bleed-t2927824
So like everyone else has notice, I have some light bleed as well, but I don't notice it unless I load a black wallpaper. I am not sure if I will return it or nor as I don't usually run a black black wallpaper.

Mine looks virtually the same as yours. One big patch of light bleed on the upper right (viewing in portrait mode) and 2 small patches along the lower corners. I'm on a White 32gb.
My advice is return for an exchange or RMA'ing, whichever you think is faster.
If bought locally, exchanging is the way to go.
I found a video on Youtube of someone claiming that his doesn't have lightbleed: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrT0GAaPgoQ
Take this video with a grain of salt though because I think the camera he is using is on VERY low exposure to the point where you can't see the backlight.
Am I the only person without lightbleeds?

Maybe. I don't think i've seen an example of one without.
Lightbleeds are most noticeable on a black or very dark screen. You got a picture you can show us of your tablet?

Looks to me your a minority ? my 2nd unit comes this morning, see how I get on with that ?
I saw on reddit that several people are mentioning that this problem only exists on the White model. Any truth to this?

No, a fair few people with Black versions also complained.
I think I'm going to return mine, frustrating but for the money it shouldn't be hard to not have this non-uniform lightbleed
This is ridiculous.
I have the white 32gb btw
Mine seems barely noticeable so there is hope for those that want to do an RMA.

You RMA'ing?
Looking at the pics I'm glad mine isn't nearly as bad..there's one bottom left corner on my white 32 that has slight bleed but nothing like the ones you all have posted...
I have 32Gb white, but I don't see any extensive light bleeding on my unit, nor wobbling back panel... I'm extensively using my device for past 24 hours, watched video, news, web browsing, and haven't noticed any issues with extensive light bleeding. I'm not even noticing anything like on the pictures from previous posters.

Yes sir. Just drop it off at ups office. I'll get one later, I'm hoping it's just this initial batch that's detective.
Do we/you think we going to have this issue on 4G/LTE version of the Nexus 9, because I'm thinking of buying either the Nexus 9 or the nVidia Shield Tablet 4G/LTE
