[Q] External SD Card Issues - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a N900 and recently have started having SD Card issues. The card automatically gets removed and then starts the scan process, this happens a couple of times a day.
One of my 32GB card has stopped working and now I cant even format it. I have inserted another card and it has also started showing the same messages.
I have the latest MJ1 and its rooted.
Thanks.

[Q] New Memory Card

I purchased Wildfire S a few days back. (Android -2.3.3 / Kernel - 2.6.35.10 ). It came with 2GB card. Since I wanted more memory, I purchased 8GB card (Class 4) and tried to insert in the slot. But when I turned on the phone, the card was not accessible. I again re-inserted it, this time, Wildfire informed me that 7.4GB SD card is available. But when I tried to transfer the data from my laptop, all of a sudden message of "SD Card not available" flashed on the screen. I tried re-inserting / rebooting 2 or 3 times but I was unable to use it. When I switched back to the original (2GB) card, it's working perfectly fine.
Am I missing something?
Probably the card is dead. Try it in another phone, or in a card reader, if you have one handy.
If it has warranty, try to get a replacement.

[Q] SD card issue (keeps saying it is damaged)

Hey Guys,
I've got the Telus version of GS4 I337M and it is rooted running stock. I purchased a 64 GB Adata card (AUSDX64GUICL10-RA1) and loaded it up with about 40 gigs of music. The card was working fine but after I restarted the S4 I got a message saying "Damaged SD card. SD card is damaged. Try reformatting it." I reformatted it went loaded the music and got the same message after a restart. I thought this was strange so I tossed the card in my friends S3 and it worked fine. I then popped it back into the S4 and it started working again. However, after I restarted the phone I got the same message.
I returned the card and picked up a Patriot Memory 64 GB (PSF64GMCSDXC10) to replace it. After putting on 40 gigs of music, I restarted the phone and now I have the same message. I'm starting to think that it is not the cards but the phone. Has anyone else run into this issue and is there any fix? The only reason I got this phone was to use the SD card slot to store all my music.
Thanks!
same issue here. After a reboot, I got the message that the SD card was damaged. I didn't format it, but rebooted and didn't get the message. But do have some problems playing music from time to time. It just stops.
much as i hate to say it, thats 'normal' with GS3/GS4.
I had this issue on my S3. Its an issue with exFAT. Try force formating your SD to fat32. I bet this fixes your issue. Good luck!

This happens to me every time I reboot. If you just reboot again it will be gone. Annoying to have to reboot twice every time so I think I'm going to try to force format fat32 like the above user suggested.

have the problem on my S4 using 64gb. formatted with fat32 already from my pc + phone issue persists. girlfriends has no issue with a 32gb formatted in her S3
I've restarted multiple times but the issue persists. My only option right now is to not restart my phone which is very annoying. Does anyone know if this issue is happening just on stock or does it not matter the ROM?
same problem
I'm having the same problem on my AT&T rooted phone. The only fix I have discovered was unmounting my SD card prior to restarting my phone. I'm curious to see if anyone can find a better solution.

Re-mount SD Card
For me, rebooting takes to long so I have found two alternatives instead of rebooting. One you can physically take out the SD card and then re-insert it or you can go into the settings and then under storage hit mount and it will scan it for errors then work fine. This still does not solve the issue though and it quite annoying since I set a titanium backup pro backup to happen at night onto my SD card and in the morning it always said it has failed due to the damaged SD card error. I'm thinking about switching to a custom ROM just because of this and the volume warning. Any advice?
Have the same issue...I copy all my card contains to my pc , before formatting the sd card . Then I resend the contain back..never happen since
Do you guys have Google Play Music running (either actively or in the background)?
Happened to me daily when I had a Sandisk 64gb card. Returned it for a Samsung 64gb and I've only seen it once in about two months. I did have it formatted as exfat and just last week reformatted as fat32. I'm hoping that might fix the issue for good.
Btw, I never had to reboot when I got the message, just go into settings and click Mount SD card. Worked every time and I never lost any data.

Its funny that you ask. I've been struggling with the same issue of my phone randomly telling me that my SD card has either unexpectedly unmounted or is damaged. I lost all my data tonight (as far as I know at least- both the computer and the S4 want me to format it because it doesn't recognize the file system) and the last thing I was doing was playing a MP3 through Google Play. This file was located on the SD Card as well.
What was your reasoning?

[Q] SD Card on S4 suddenly stopped working

Hello
About 12hrs ago, everything on my Samsung Galaxy S4 phone was working perfectly fine.
I was using my camera to record a video when the playblack crashed and the phone suddenly did a restart. When the phone booted back up again, the phone could no longer read the SD Card. I did several restarts and took out the SD Card and put it back in again and still the phone refuses to see the SD Card.
I know the problem ISN'T the SD Card because when I put the SD card into an adapter and plug it into my computer, the computer can read and see everything on the card.
Any one else have this problem and know how to solve it?
My phone isn't rooted or hacked
Thanks!

-Go to setting/storage and check what is the status for the external SD. May be it is not mounted.
- second check if you get any other SD card to test the phone behavior with it.

I tried a 16G SD card and it connected perfectly.
is there an App which forces the phone to mount the SD Card?

Save your SD card content to your computer and reformat it direct from the phone. If it is successful revert back the data et voilĂ !
if not Ok it is something wrong with the memory card itself...
I have similar problem. Two days ago suddenly I got message SD card unexpected removed. That puzzled me because I didn't touch SD card at all. Turned phone off and on and seemed to be ok since yesterday. I had SD card removed message again and phone doesn't see any card anymore. I tried bunch of SD cards and no luck. Reset my phone, reinstalled firmware and still nothing. Opened even my phone check sim and SD card board connector.
All my SD card tested, formatted on PC. Any ideas?

Phone won't detect SD card, yet (other card in phone) and (my card in other phone) OK

I've had my phone/SD card combo running fine for 4 months. (Moto X Play + 64GB Sandisk SD card) This week, my podcast app started displaying download errors; I soon discovered that the SD card was no longer being detected.
(The Moto is running Marshmallow 6.0.1; the card is a SanDisk Ultra 64GB UHS-I/Class 10 Card SDSQUNB-064G-GN3MN)
The card had been adopted as internal storage.
I performed a factory reset on the phone. No help.
I mounted the card on my PC; it detected errors. Chkdsk said "Corruption was found while examining the volume bitmap".
After correcting the errors, my PC could read the card just fine; folders and photos appeared fine.
But still, my phone couldn't detect my card. Time for some isolation testing:
Insert a different card into my phone: success. The phone detected the card.
Insert my card into a different Android phone: success. The phone detected the card.
What's my next step? Thanks!

Format your card using phone if it detects.

It doesn't detect the card at all. That's the problem.

I have the same problem. SD card would "vanish" then sometimes "come back" if I physically ejected & re-inserted it a few times, but eventually it stopped altogether. I'm pretty sure it's a hardware issue. I haven't found a solution and it's super-annoying.
BTW is your GPS ok? I also started getting reboots on my phone when the SD card started acting weird, and eventually I traced it to my location services being in high accuracy mode - no problem when I'm in battery saving mode. I'm on a different ROM than you but I'm just curious whether there might be a connection...

Not sure if I broke a pin, but something is damaged in there And since my phone isn't under warranty it's gonna cost a lot to get it fixed. Not sure it's worth it...
My moto x play XT1562 is not detecting Sim 2 and Memory Card it only detects the Sim 1.What's the problem. Could anyone help me to get out of this problem.

MiA1 SD Card Issue

Hi
My SD Card 64GB has stopped working in the Phone. Have tried instaling new card which will not format in the phone. It gets stuck on 20% and then shows as corrupted.2 New cards the same problem.
I formatted on PC and instaled but same issue when instaled in the Phone. A couple of times in Setting when trying to access storage the App stopped.
Without SD card it seems fine. Any Suggestion, please.
