I want to flash a very stable and quick ROM for the Galaxy Y for my girlfriend. There seem to be so many I decided to ask for some suggestions.
It has to be super stable and fast as she gets frustrated with this.
Good for storage, I can partition the SD card and use some apps for this if necessary.
All the usual stuff
Facebook
Some games
Camera
Video
Music
etc.
Thanks in advance!

So I've been using my hero for a good 3-4 years and its been rooted and I've tried a variety of roms up to and including the ICS ones more recently. So I guess this thread is really me asking much more experienced people what roms, settings etc to use. I've tried Elelinux which was great for a long time but recently it seemed to not respond to my input so well and other roms don't seem as stable or quick generally.
But throughout my time using different roms etc i've heard about SD Card Partitions but I've never actually done it and I'm wondering 1) how and 2) why? what benefits do you actually get from doing it?
Another question I have is the recovery when you're flashing a new rom etc - I have one I downloaded from these forums a few years ago after I first rooted my phone and I've never thought to see if there was a different version or different features. I heard that there is a version 5 of Clockwordmod I'm wondering if its better than the RA-hero 1.7.0.1 I currently have. Another question I have is, if I do flash a new recovery will I lose my current backups?
Finally, I'm interested in finding out which is a quick, stable rom that will be good for daily use. I've tried MIUI and an early version of SCHPONGLE if that's the current name, by 1cebox and they're quick roms but not quite stable enough for long term use. I don't mind what version it runs as long as it can run Google Maps, Youtube, Sony Remote and IMDB apps.
Any advice?
The answer to why partitioning an sd card is here. I have done it and it really helps my little Hero since it doesn't have much ram. Instructions on how you can partition the sd are using Amon RA are here.
Flashing a new recovery (like the last Clockwordmod available on Hero) does not erases your backups, i know that by personal experience
Clockworkmod has the ability to allow you to browse the directories for zip installing instead of having the zip files only on the root dir. It also can install zip files even if there are not signed properly. The only problem i had (with the last version) is that it doesn't support old upgrade scripts but i can live with this "bug". To me, Clockworkmod vs Amon RA is just a matter of personal taste.
If your main language is English (which is not my case ), i suggest you the SCHPONGLE Rom which is really fast and well done. Everything works just fine there as 1ceb0x made a great job !
I am actually using the Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 which i can have in Italian and has everything working well enough. I am expecting the fix of GPS and pinch-to-zoom bugs in [ICS 4.0.4] AOKP [Team Legacy] rom because after testing the CM9 made by jordfaz, for fore than 2 weeks, all i can cay that it's fast (really fast !) and that i turned back to Elelinux-7.2-Hero-v3.9 only because i miss GPS.
Have a nice day

Im still very new to this and hope someone can find the time to send me the right way.
Im currently looking for a stable rom which can support both google chrome & link2sd.
Tried some different roms but only succeeded in finding roms which can run one of the two, hope someone here has got the answer for me!
Thanks in advance.
Any rom can support both however I wouldn't use chrome on a galaxy y although I can't remember if it armv6 compatible- it would probably be very laggy - use dolphin instead if you want a full Web browser
Link2sd isn't dependent on rom - its dependant on a kernel that supports ext sd card partitions however on cm11 use s2e instead - see rom thread
So the answer to the question is any rom as long as the app you are installing is armv6 compatible and you know how to create sd ext partitions & using a supporting kernel for the rom you are using
Please don't ask users for best roms as this is subjective
Chrome based browsers are not compatible due to low ram issues (if you count out the cm11 browser which is somewhat like crome) so no rom could support chrome
Cm11 could be the only way to have both but libk2sd isnt recommended s2e will work same
Like the title already says i am looking for the best ROM for the Galaxy S4 to use everyday so it has to be stable and bugfree.
The reason why i dont want the stock touch wiz rom anymore is that it lets only 9gb free on my 16 gb model.
Please recommend me ROMs that are reliable and if possible also with the ability to move Apps to the SD Card.
Thanks and greetings
Any rom is stable and no rom is bugfree.
Couldnt you have posted in one of the 3268 existing best ROM threads

the best rom is Stock 5.0.1. who cares about available memory, get a 64gb sd card.

Best as in what the hell is subjectivity.
I would recommend
Lollipop german version.
Echoerom.
But for you. Try the cm12 alucard and antaresone's rom. I find it refreshing . Bonus: it's like 400mb in total. Including gapps.:good:
I find the GPE roms to be very good.
I tried the CM12 Optimzed builds and faced several problems.
With the GPE roms I've never had any trouble. Also have great battery life.
i need a simple custom rom for galaxy s5 g900w8

Hi,
I have the same s5 w8 you do, and I've run XtreStoLite for a while. I highly recommend it. It's stable and debloated. It's basically touchwiz without the problems.

If you prefer a more ASOP look, try the Sonic AOKP
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/unified-development/klte-t3044804
They're both LP ROMs, but I've been very happy with both. I find that the Sonic ROM lacks the functionality (Finger Print, SHealth, Gesture) that I want, but it's very simple, and highly customizable. Perfectly stable too.
Good Luck
Hey guys, I'm new here.. like super new and that's why I can't post to The Best CM12.1 CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM For Lenovo A6000/Plus (Stable) thread.
I would love to flash this rom. Stock KK is so slow and hanging every time I try to run more than one app (Spotify + Snapchat? Impossible!) But here is the thing. I've never did that before. I guess I know how to flash TWRP recovery and the actual ROM but I have no clue what to do with so many kernels.
My questions are:
1. Why do I need flash some kernel? I just want functional phone for everyday use with the best peformance+battery backup. I'm not looking for some "everyday flashing something new.". so can I just flash the rom without any addiotional kernel?
2. Dolby! I love music and I love Dolby. Can I flash Dolby Atmos?
3. Nobody is talking about heavy RAM usage (like Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram - that's all I need actually). I know, 1 Gb is not many but I was suprised when my friend's 1GB ram phone can handle running Snapchat, Messenger and Spotify in one time without any significant lag! HOW?!
4. What is No Optimization? Why do I need it? What is this good for?
5. What is screen blinking bug? I just want to know if I wouldn't mind it.
6. Is there any guide how to revert back to Kitkat stock rom? I'm always trying to be safe.
7. In Kitkat there's possibility to swap internal storage and SD card. Is it presented also here?
Thank you so much for your answers! Really guys! And sorry, my English is bad, I know.
Have a nice day.
i will be glad to guide you
1-make a backup for every thing in twrp recovery savet in ext sd -just in case
2-as a beginner don't disturb your self withe custom kernel section
3-just download the rom and update 11 and gapps
4-no optimization for advanced users who are like to use their own optimization
5-blinking bug is bug common in this rom the screen goes off for 1 sec and turn on again
6-you have to try the rom by your self to judge it for me it is the best rom i have in this device

i have a question too that which rom is stable, ive tried cyanogenmod 12.1 but it lags i believe it hits a bottleneck limit causing it to lag because i cant seem to browse websites on chrome in peace without it hanging for a few...is there any other stable lollipop rom which doesnt consume too much RAM or should i add a custom kernel to squeeze out more performance

Custom kernels r used to squeeze more power and performance, so that u can get the most out of ur phone. If u know how to use custom kernels, dn go ahead with the flashing of ur preferred custom kernel. All ur hanging and lagging isues will be minimized at a great level. I personally prefer telo kernel by Mr. AW., and used the balanced setting given by ED300, and some settings that satisfy me, i haven't faced any lag thereafter.
Good luck!!
