My note3 experience... - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have had the note 1 for almost 2 years and couldn't decide if I should go for a note 3 or try something else.
Well, I went for note 3 and I have finally found a phone that meets my expectations. .. power, battery, screen...
I am a power user yet every day have at least 30% battery left.
I think this phone is pure gadget heaven so I struggle to read all the problems people are saying on here... do I have the same phone?
Every day this phone exceeds my expectations. .. today it was the video camera filming my 2 year old ... fast, super clear... simple.
Are these forums just for complaints or iPhone trolls?
Well done Samsung. .. and an awesome phone! !!

Same as you mate. . Had the note 1 almost 2 years. . Now have the note 3 and is a superb phone. ..I don't even need to run custom rom on this. .... yet is so fast and smooth.
Only thing i'm not happy about is the 5 minute limitation on the 4k recording. .. Can do without it but don't need to be limited on it.
Great phone all the same and I like the knox feature as well

At least you can browse Facebook and xda with it until you can muster the will to crawl out of bed.

iTunes is one of the main reasons I just gave up on everything Apple. They try to run your entire computer life through it. It has trashed so many systems of mine (Windows) over the years that I no longer install it. I use a VM and a virtual CD burner whenever I need to use it (I am forced to use it to burn CDs from Audible.com, and I hate that).

I have a Note 1 as well and am definitely interested in the 3 though I will wait for prices to drop.
Question: how is the speaker compared to the Note 1? I have read a lot about it but it's difficult to judge for myself since store environments are rather noisy. Are there ways of reducing the tinniness that some people complain about?

Speaker is acceptable if you bear in mind that it's a phone speaker. Some people just have unrealistic expectations.

Anyone sold there iphone4 for a SGS2

I am extremely tempted with one of these, I know this may start a fanboy android vs iOS slagging match, but what made you change, are you happy and what are the major benefits, I read on here that the SGS2 has some issues with gps, wifi and terrible battery life, this concerns me.
I'm an Android user, but...
- GPS is the fastest I've ever known in a phone
- Wifi is fine
- Battery life is dependent on what you do. There's a bug in Android 2.3.3 which has been resolved in 2.3.4, which causes excessive battery drain on dual core phones. An update is being released this month supposedly... [hey, even with the bug the life is fine IMO]
just about to sell my iphone 4, there are some things the ip4 does better but i think there are some software updates coming to the gs2 that will bring it back up to speed.
I did that. I sold my iPhone once I got my SGS II. In truth, battery life is a bit lower than iPhone but I guess it has something to do with the 2.3.3 kernel. I am now waiting for the 2.3.4 kernel but other than that, I love the SGS II.
The battery life last about a day with low usage (surfing, Whatsapp, Beejive IM and also Seesmic). Usually I end the day without about 20% battery. Also, I use Navigon with it and I am very happy with the GPS. It picks up and lock on about as fast or not even faster than the iPhone 4 with Tomtom.
I have an iPhone 4, but I'm not selling it. It's a fantastic little device. Keyword: LITTLE. I don't want to use it as a phone anymore, but I'm not going to sell it because I have a lot of money in vested in the appstore, and it lasts FOREVER as an Mp3 player! lol. It also takes great pictures .
But I got my SGS2, as well. But No, I'm not selling my iphone 4, but maybe because I afford to keep both? If I couldn't, maybe I'd sell it. The SGS2 is a way better phone and device in general, but as many people say, every phone has its pros and cons.
Just a couple of things.
The sound quality from the iPhone is quite a bit better. And there are lots more games on the iPhone.
But, the sgs2 allows you to customize the phone to a much greater extent. And its screen is simply wonderful.
If I was you, I would wait until Monday and see what apple has in store and pop in to a shop and check out the sgs2.
Personally I love my sgs2 but I am thinking of getting a mp3 player as it sounds a bit poo. But that's just me.

Sold mine and don't look back very happy with what I have.
sold mine to get the sgs2, many pros and cons for both but happy with sgs2 and dont seem to have any battery problems, gps problems all is good. just the home button slow to wake phone up which fingers crossed it will be solved with 2.3.4 update.
but i must say ill be getting the iphone 5 on release day
Sold my iPhone 4 as well and got the SGS2 instead. Never looked back. Never really liked the iOS interface anyway so it felt great to be back on Android..
Something which is DEFINITELY worse on the Galaxy 2 in the audio quality over bluetooth. It simply SUCKS.
Since I drive a lot, it's something I really miss of my Iphone 4.... also if anybody knows about any fix (I heard of something somewhere, but never managed to get enough info), please post it to me I will be very grateful.

Audio quality the iphone4 is definitely better unless u have a portable amp then i cant say. Only thing fun bout the iphone was jailbreaking to me and that didnt lasted very long.
I'm in the exact same position as the OP.
I have iPhone 4 but am getting a bit bored of iOS. I Jailbreak for customisation options but Android seems to be much more versatile & the lack of Jailbreak for iPad 2 worries me going forward with iDevices.
Apple need to reveal a major iOS 5 overhaul at WWDC (the introduction of widgets is essential) or I'll be getting the SGS2 at the end of the month.
If iOS5 does tick all the right boxes for me then I'm really going to be torn. I will probably run both iPhone 4 & SGS2 until the new iDevice is launched & then make the Android v iOS choice.
My only real concern about moving to SGS2 is the build quality. I've tried the store demo units & they don't have the premium feel of iPhone 4.

I sold my Iphone 4, it was jailbreaked with lockinfo, BiteSMS and much more. The build quality on the SGS II is maybe not as great as the iPhone 4 but it is ok. The one thing I miss most is the overall better quality of apps in the appstore - and the batterylife of the iPhone
Still have the iPhone 4 with me, now whenever I use the iPhone, I feel like theres nothing missing, theres no back button!

That also means you save that screen space hehe. Yes the iPhone is a good phone. It has it's pros and cons. But I prefer an android phone with a 4.3 inch screen than a 3.5 inch screen device. Battery life isn't as good on a 4.3 inch fully functioning multitasking 1.2 ghz phone compared to a closed single core smaller screened device that doesn't allow any real multitasking. Shame. Oh well I'm going to get a battery case (maybe) hehe.

Am keeping my iPhone 4 for now. Love my SGS2, prefer the bigger screen and customization options.
Battery life is much better on iPhone and prefer the build quality.
Lets see what Monday brings
Had an iPhone 4 (32gb, jailbroken, etc). Fell in love with the SGS2 after reading every article that I could find. Ordered it from expansys. Kept my iP4 just in case I didn't like the SGS2. Within 1 day I had my iP4 up on craigslist for sale.
I guess I'm lucky since my job doesn't permit me the luxury of playing with the phone all day. Battery has been more than adequate for me. Fact of the matter is I've been at or above the same level as my iP4 at the end of the day.
The thing that I'm super stoked about with this phone is it's potential that has yet to even be unleashed. IMHO it's the most future proof device out at the moment. The full capabilities haven't even been scratched yet. I'm still running a completely stock device and I couldn't be happier. Once dev's get a real hold on the device watch out. Powerhouse FTW.

Should we buy or wait s4 due to screen or other issues?

I want to know from expert guys who have bought S4 or those who have expert ideas about screen smearing or other issues with S4, kindly advise me should we buy S4 right now or should we wait, or should we consider iPhone5 which does it all in good way but just smaller display or even HTC One?
Advice required?
How can you even consider iPhone 5 is beyond me...
Wait to see if the problems get fixed I guess. HTC One is the next best thing.
@usmanxhmed you can choose whatever you prefer. People here will bash you if you mention any iOS devices. But tbh I just switched to S4 and currently having yellow tint issues .. I believe my iPhone 4S's display is brighter and clearer than my current S4, only that it's smaller. You may want to wait.
it's not bashing about ios. iphone 5 is rubbish. even galaxy s3 is better. how could someone consider iphone 5 to galaxy s4. it's beyond my imagination.
I'm loving my S4, I can't see what everyone is moaning about, inventing all of these 'issues' with it! Just set your phone up properly and off you go.
Seriously, it's the best phone I've ever had. My mate has an iPhone, I was showing off my S4 today and it does impress.
The quality of the screen is the first thing you notice, just playing the helicopter video which is on the phone does a good job when showing off, then demonstrate hovering over text messages and emails, then gesture scroll on the browser, it can't fail to impress, even iPhone owners!
Don't hesitate, just buy an S4.

If you consider to buy a Iphone 5 instead of the s4, better go with the One. Its closer in terms of fluidness, haptics, optics and display.

You're probably just too excited with your S4. I had an iPhone before the S4 and the screen is much brighter. Also, my S4 has a yellowish tint, which is not something i'm happy about. Oh and all those features by Samsung are gimmicks and useless, I turned them all off.
It's a good phone, don't get me wrong, but I hate how this forum is filled with fanboys defending it with everything. Phones DO have disadvantages whether you like it or not -.-
The screen is definitely brighter on my brothers iPhone 5, but most the time you have it on mid brightness anyway, otherwise the 1400mah battery will run out
Sent from my GT-I9505 using XDA Premium HD app
@3473 Yeah a smaller battery and drains fast, but the screen does not disappoint imo. I always had my brightness on 80%. The thing is, I never noticed it until today, hence why I am annoyed by it so much. I realise it now every time I turn on my S4 :\

You're funny.
If your gimmicky phone is broken, change it!
(Perhaps for an iPhone as you like them so much.)

@NNIicckks This is my first samsung as well, hence why I'm disappointed. Can you hold your phone with an empty white screen to your laptop (both on full brightness) ? See if you can find yellow tint in yours.
Firstly i am not iFanboy, as i bashed all my life iPhones when i use to love Symbian, the likes of e52, which i bought 4 times in few years and i use to dislike Android as it stole the show and i use to laugh at iPhone as i thought it lacks basic features.
Then features made me switch to Android and i could never switch back to Symbian which i still love, but can't use as most of them you know why, thought i have an old Nokia 5630 for emergencies like now.
Used few Xperias, Desires, Galaxy and the last one i sold was HTC One x About 40 days ago to get decent money out of it just to save money for S4.
Then S4 was so dam late after its announcement, i could not wait, i bought brand new black iPhone 5 just to try iOS for the first time in life, to see why girls, and people like girls like iPhone so much, mainly i evaluated in past because it just do most things, and it does in fairly better way.
When i bought it, i liked iPhone5 screen, not just the brightness because i usually set brightness at 40 percent, to save batter, but the blacks, the colours and it was decent package.
I was surprised that you cannot change even SMS app in iPhone but little happy too that i could never decide which SMS app or which launcher i should use with Android, i was happy there is no home screen in iPhone as i was always nervous to use any widgets on Android due to poor batteries of all android phones.
I was sad that you cannot block calls, you cannot record calls and you have to pay for paid Apps unlike in Android, in which i use to find Apps from net and manually install them. i decided not to jailbreak iPhone because i bought it for ease of use and not to mess, so i given up in whatsapp being paid and start using viber.
then i found it iPhones bezal is prone to scratch like a fire in jungle, softwares were beautiful and screen was too small i felt, though i bought to use for long term but due to those limiations i bought new iPhone 5 with good loss for S4 a week ago after using for 2 weeks.
Now i kept my savings back to buy S4, now guess what, screen, issue, over heating, battery drain? now i think did i made bad choice to sale iPhone, as it was doing most things good and plus its size was great to carry it around, if i could adjust with smaller screen thinking, little is big if little can do most big screens task, as i sold iPhone for big screen S4 plus normal android features like default softwares changing, hacked apps, sharing of songs/videos and larger screen to view web pages and videos and pictures.
Though iPhone screen was very good, i was fond of AMOLED sharp colours too and deep blacks.
Now nobody knows whats the situation of S4 in Pakistan, i called the retailer he says he has no clue about about smearing, what it is, means he is not sure if its there or not, so i am left to spend all my savings to buy this fun and see if my luck is good or bad.
Another thing that let me down is no response from Samsung, i think they taking success as granted just as Nokia did and see its condition now, My beloved Nokia too took success by granted an stayed in past glory, by feeding ancient generation slow CPU when the world was moving to dual cores, they thought we are Nokia we can do whatever we want.
Now samsung is silent, no official response, are they this careless about consumer or worried about 10M pre orders?
now i am here without a smart phone? how can i buy S4 when i am not sure if my unit will have issue or not.
For HTC One X lovers, Metal is good, but prone to scratches and dents more than plastic, so you have to put silicon cover, metal gone and phone becomes fatter, but fine, its ok to bear it, but power switch is not fine? it must be pain for me? HTC in years every reviewer bashed your power button placement, and you are not willing to learn, this time put even farther.
Screem is better but why smaller? battery is nice and again smaller as was the case in S3 and One x? why HTC has to do these compromises is beyond me?
But the two things that is putting One off for me is power button placement, hello i have to use second hand every time? and batter concerns?
I have written too much bull**** here, why? because Samsung could not come up with official statement and they are sitting silent like ****** ?
So? so i may end buying another new iPhone 5 and forget about android advantages and just use my phone is phone and be happy with smaller screen, skype, viber, fluidity etc?
usmanx i think you are clearly isheep..
doesn't matter which phone is good. everywhere on internet said galaxy s3 is better than iphone 5. phone of the years 2012 is galaxy s3. phone of the years 2011 is galaxy s2.
2013 should go to galaxy s4 or htc one. iphone is big sh1t of rubbish. i have use iphone 1, 3gs and 4. yes my wife has iphone 4s and 5atm.
i know how it works. it's simple a prison ( iphone ). you can't do sh1t with it. a damn old ugly interface for ages now. same design kept for years.. nothing innovation.
well. i'm not fan of anything. but i'm sure go to freedom. android is freedom. f*ck ios. my galaxy s3 with wanam custom rom are million miles better than iphone 5. not to mention my galaxy s4 is going to be. once the dev start kicking.

Have to agree. I don't have or notice any of the screen issues folks are going on about. Compared to my HTC Evo 4G LTE, the whites might not be quite as bright at times, but the colors are so much better and the screen is very easy to see and use, even in full sunlight. I guess the screen comes down to personal preference in the end, but I sure would not let any minor issues like that have been reported stop you from trying it. It's not perfect, but I'm really enjoying mine so far after a week of using it.
Hovering affect is waist, so as air gestures? they are not reliable plus they will drain battery plus they will slower the phone, plus they make the OS heavy plus simply touching the screen is more assured? and if you have to show these off, then i should not take your advice.
You can talk about benefits of larger screen, more sharing options and other useless features, please not gimmiks, thanks.
I wanted S4 to be automatic choice for me, but a phone with unreliable screen?

Well a personal question, you are not forced to answer, but why your wife has 2 iPhones any ways? is one not enough?
and few people don't have free brain and free time to waist on custom roms or all that stuff, they just want to use phone and after using iPhone i know its limitations and strengths now.
Plus, man take it easy, dont enforce your thoughts on others, and dont think what ever you think is absolute right for everyone, every one as different needs and brains, hence different preference for phones.
So if you tell phone one is good and phone too is crap, i will sit back and feel sorry and i will think you need time to be mature in life.
You should say my favourite phones has these benefits which other phone is not having, thats better

I understand. All I can tell you is that after using mine for a week, I don't find ANY display issues at all with my S4. I think there is just a mountain being made of a mole hill, personally.
BTW, some of the "gimmicks" are useful. Like the hover thing. In certain apps, it's kind of like hovering your mouse over a thread header in this forum and getting a preview of the thread.
The issues aren't that significant and they don't make the device unusable. Apart from these tolerable display issues, the device is amazing. Perfect audio quality, great battery life, thin and light.
iPhone 5 is also a great device. Yes, the display is small but it has great contrast and accurate colors. Just know that there will be things that you could easily do on Android but can't on iOS.
I didn't get a chance to use HTC One, so I can't comment on that one.

How you can't even use proper grammar and still feel the right to insult someone else's smartphone choice is beyond me.

Anyone else thinking of returning theirs?

I have had my t-mobile note 3 for 2 days now and I have to say its nice, but its not so much nicer than my note 2 that I need to pay 708$ The s pen sensitivity is pretty crappy on the bottom half of the screen and the build quality seems pretty cheap to me. Its constantly popping or creaking as I type or just handle it. Dont get me wrong, its a nice phone.....I was just curious if there were any other note 2 owners out there thinking about taking it back before the 14 days is up.
I paid $300 for my AT&T version, so I'm not as far in the hole as you, but I'm loving this phone
I'm also coming from an HTC One, not a note 2

Maybe you have a defective device? I played with the AT&T's floor model and found the spen extremely responsive. also I didn't get the whole popping/creaking feel to it. If you like it enough try to return it for another, if not then return it for your cash and grab your GN2 and put her back to work
for 300 I think I too would probably keep it hahaha

At over 7bills I can't blame you. I would have to be 110% happy with it to keep it.
My only real concern is the regional lock that is the subject of many posts here at XDA.
I have not experienced any of the problems you mention and it seems silky smooth and fast compared with my Note 2. There are some software glitches that I'm sure will be sorted out soon but the increased performance, better display, 32 GB, wireless ac and increased internal memory means I will be keeping mine.
I will still be keeping my eye on the forthcoming Nexus 5 and HTC One Max but neither are likely to have a microsd slot and a removable battery.
If something better comes along, I'm pretty sure there will be a good second hand value on the Note3 anyway.

Mine is pretty smooth as well, one of my complaints with the note 2 is gallery load time. I have picassa and dropbox synced in gallery and it takes forever to load. I figured the note three would not have this issue because of the difference in specs but it still does, not to the extent of the note 2 but it still has some chop to it. Also whenever I am sending a text and another text is coming in it will have the slightest delay, again way better than the 2 but still present, which also is a bit of a bummer.
I'm considering returning mine before the 14 day window is up, especially if a root solution isn't found soon (AT&T). I think I'll end up waiting for the Nexus to be released and then decide which I'd rather have.

I constantly watch movies, play games, and torrent just about everything in the world . Thats the whole reason I'm going with the Note 3. I'm tired of lugging a tablet around to the Car Detailers, Work, When I'm at my sons school waiting for him, doctors office (only if my wife is there so I can stash it away in her purse), anywhere that I have down time pretty much lol

Did you come from a note 2? I never root my phones, I used to....used custom roms...but every single time that something really cool was happening and I needed the camera or just anything really the Fu*&ing phone would freeze and or not work and need a restart. Just gave up on custom, now I just disable the crap I dont use and press on LOL

I cant tell any difference on Netflix, however high resolution movies that I have put on there look fantastic. I too torrent just about everything, the Utorrent app and pirate bay browser work quite well on it, just fyi.
I came from a VZ Note 2. I am on T-Mobile now for the Note 3. I just received my second Note 3 today, and the build quality far surpasses the first one I received. No gaps between the bezel and screen, plus the home button isn't super loose. This one was for another family member, but after seeing the discrepancies, I called T-Mo for a replacement for my first Note 3. That one should be here Tuesday. For the price I think Samsung should have some better QC. I hope I get lucky with the replacement or I'm keeping this well built Note 3 I got today, I paid for it...
Note 2 was excellent, but I am bored with it. Pure and simple. I use my phone a ton and it is always with me. If I am going to splurge on one thing, it might as well be my phone.
I got my N3 yesterday and have spent a full day setting it up exactly like my N2 it's replacing. I'm a heavy productivity user and actually buy Note's for all their s/w features. I have 131 apps installed on my device and have about 10 push(ish) syncs going at all times. I'm kind of a power user.
The N3 runs circles around the N2 in every conceivable way. I'll post a full comparison in the N2 vs. N3 thread after I've used the N3 for a few days the way I previously used the N2.
Here's some early observations:
You can use S Voice while the phone's locked. So with the phone sitting on my desk I can have it open the dialer, e-mail, messaging, or contacts by voice so it's ready to use when I pick it up.
Bluetooth audio output is friggin amazing. The N2 was significantly better than my ex-One X but the N3's separation, clarity, and depth played over my high-end(ish) car audio system is so superior as to make it seem as if I was listening to "mono" audio before.
The capacitive buttons working with the stylus is almost worth the price of the upgrade. And the N3 is the first device I've ever used that finally allows you to use voice commands (Google Now, S Voice) while connected via A2DP. I have no idea why it was so hard previously but that and 100% interface control with the stylus is enough for me never to look back at the N2.
The multiple page lock screens are pretty cool too. It's amazing how much you can control and access without having to unlock the phone.
Going from the N3's display back to the N2 makes the latter's look downright cloudy and dingy. Auto brightness on the N3 is significantly brighter than the N2's as is max brightness. Reading the display in bright sun is a joy. It helps that Samsung finally moved away from black and teal for their stock apps.
Battery life is impressive; far better than the N2's and charging speed is remarkable.
The rectangular shape with a flat textured back makes it so much easier to hold; especially in landscape. And the speaker everyone's been *****ing about is plenty loud and even louder than the N2's in certain situations because being bottom (vs. rear) mounted ensures it won't be covered up if you lay it flat or hold it in your left hand vertically or right hand horizontally. The N2 feels a generation behind the N3 physically when you move back to it from the N3. The N3 feels like a serious mobile device where the "designed by nature" ovoid shape of N2 seems a bit tired in comparison. But obviously that' subjective.
There's no discernible lag even with all the crap I have loaded on my N3 where the N2 stuttered occasionally (not its fault; mine).
To each their own but I'm pretty shocked at how much more advanced the N3 is over the N2 in pretty much every area I care about. My Gear arrives Monday so I’ll have even more kit to play with.
As for people like OP, I don't know what to say. I think people have different expectations based on how much they use their device to accomplish. To plays some games, browse, listen to music, and update social it doesn't really matter what high-end device you use because they'll all be competemt. I use my devices hard and can't imagine anything coming close to the N3. And I loved my N2 and said the same thing about it but it's totally eclipsed by the N3.
Came from Sprint Note 2. Um... Not really a big difference. BUT.... I like new gadgets. If I didn't feel as if I had to have the N3 I would have stuck with the note 2. Very expensive phone and accessories make it hard to stomach..I agree.

I ended up selling mine and getting the HTC Butterfly S. Overall I didn't care for touchwiz and it's hardware button layout. I just really wasn't feeling the phone. I'm back using my Nexus 4 until my Butterfly arrives and I still prefer the N4 over my time with the Note 3. I think I will stay clear of all future Samsung devices.
Ehh to each it's own. I'm coming from a note 2 and a iPhone 5s, so I'm literally in love with this thing.

Serious Help Note 3 Or Iphone 5s

Please don't close this thread soon, i am in real headache and really need some thoughts from only those users who have used latest Android Devices and iPhone 5/5s.
Hi there, i am facing some serious issues about buying either Note 3 or iPhone 5s. To further explain my last few phones in order are HTC One X, iPhone 5 again iPhone 5 and lastly i sold LG G2. LG G2 i believe is best in android just because of lack of brand value i sold it as i got good offer as compared to market.
I thought to buy smaller iPhone 5s, just to be able to do everything, fine living with no songs sharing, limitations, but fast, fluid and small in hand and pocket. Now Note 3 which i hated, specially S pen, but better brand value, more things to be able to do, but same messy android and touch wiz?
Spoiled for choice, only one have to make.
May be i should somehow hold and play with both, both phones have some to give and something to take.
EDIT:
Problem simplified. Trimmed my situation into two choice:
Option 1 (Big, tough to carry, more real estate + Android, more possibilities, sharing and mess)
VS
Option 2 (Small, easy to carry around + less feature simple life fluid and pretty)
You say you hated Note 3, so what's the problem. Go with iPhone 5S. That's a fantastic phone, and I'm not being sarcastic. I'm not an Android fanboy, I call it as it is.
Be careful however, iPhone 6 will come out in near future and it'll likely be very different from this generation of iPhones, likely with a bigger screen, so your iPhone 5S will start looking old.
Hate S-pen !
if you hate Note 3 specially for S-pen then you won't find anything more in Note 3 not in LG G2.(not to mention bigger screen )
and i don't think buying a phone based on its brand value is a good thing; buy a phone that is amusing you.
hope this help.
i have both and they are completely different things. I think that if you can use big screen (you really have to believe) go for note 3. has better screen and more options and of course rooting.
iphone 5s has touch id which is very very useful for buying apps and games while you are using your pass. more compact. has jailbreak (not fully compatible yet) and it is classic apple if you can manage to use it…
final words; if you play games use office and want bigger, more crisp screen go for note 3, if you think you want compact daily use and not customised phone, go for i5s.
thanks.
Whenni allready haf my note 3 i bought an 5S to try it out and see why so much ppl love iphone. After 8 days i sold it again and switched back to my note 3.
You can't do sh*t with an iphone. No customisation. The way whatsapp works suvks balls and no support for sharing. Lets say you want to share a picture from your photo album you cannot choose bluetooth or whatsapp or dropbox or whatever. You must do all things within the designated app. Total BS. No custpm mp3 ringtones because non synced mp3 will not be supported and all that crap.
Hope my anti apple rant helped you.

Thanks for the reply brother. I hated Note 3 when i bought G2, due to massive size and weight of stylus, now when i sold G2 i am open to choices, so just thinking bigger screen can be advantage as well as headache, like you can do anything in android, if i can bear Big size, on the other hand i decided iPhone5s just being smaller and easy to carry and use, thinking too much small size will be just ok, as watching website is not ideal on any mobile for that you have laptop.
As i think, both have advantages and disadvantages, and it will come down to just size, which size i may prefer. too many options in android can be headache for me, simple iPhone where you can't do a **** can be easy. Well !

You are right, i was so much satisfied with LG G2 too, just was bit down due to no market value, and when i got good offer from someone, i thought to sale it, as later it wont bring this money, plus i dont like physical home buttons on touch devices, but now i have to have it. One of these two phones i have to buy now hopefully with determination not to sale them again

Thanks for great guidance. I only rooted and applied custom roms to my once x10 mini, apart from that i never used custom rom just because of reading many people brick devices and confusions and all that, not something clear. I used iPhone 5 twice and i know what is that and only thing i specially hate is you cant share song over whatsapp.
Yeah, deciding factor will be size, if i can live with gigantic size in pocket, i should go for note and may be get cm11 with installer, if i will get iphone, i will only get because i dont want to deal with root and flashing.
I really don't see the point of this thread... You said yourself you hated the note 3.....so why even bother with this post. Just get the iPhone5s and be done with it. You don't even want to put custom rom on the phone and with the other issues like Knox and the likes. Just get an iPhone5s

Its like i don't hate any platform, i didnt like samsung note 3 due to physical home button and size, but i know somehow android can be more beneficial with bigger screen and all, now i have option of both, thats why considering both, with iPhone i have to lose things too, any ways, yeah i wanna avoid custom roms being not clear or easy way to do it, though i love stock android appearance so much. Just got choice thats making me confuse, eventually i know i have to decide one my self as i know most things my self about both platform and phones, tough choice for a guy like me who is not fanboy and who has open choice to make. In the end i say whichever i get, i may get working set.
My brother have both note 1 and ip 5..he said to me ip5 is not good due to all the hustle just when u want to transfer file which required to be convert etc using itunes..make simple job become complicated..

Well you sold iPhone after 8 days because your needs are very much android like. I liked iPhone twice just becauseyou can't change built in programs like sms, which saved me from tension of which one to chose, so much choices like its tension which to use and which not, one feature is good in one, other feature is good in second app. Yes sharing is an issue but only sharing songs are issue, pics can be shared with whatsapp and everything can be shared in dropbox app and songs can be downloaded via third party app like file master, yes sharing songs via whatsapp is my only grudge, another draw back is apps are not free unless you jail break, which i dont do.
Custom ring tones, i am not fan of songs as ring tones and built ones are just classic, yet you can have custome ringtone too.
Well, your above mention weakness are strength for others and i fall in between of both. wish i could hate one of them like you completely

Valid point, massive advantage, in android you can share or receive any **** ever discovered, and in iPhone you have to stop thinking about sharing with ease or share or sync on holidays lol

Yeah, you reminded me, battery is the biggest issue and difference between the two, when i had iPhone 5 twice, it use to last working hours, i was playing games rarely, push was on, with LG G2 battery was massive edge and i feel, Note 3 should be same good in battery.
Yes since i am posting it in Note 3, answer should be Note 3, i have nothing personal against it, when i will try it in some store, i will see if i can carry the monster around with me or not. Another guy has note 3 and its so big against his face and in hands, i wonder how to do it.
Let me make a statement here. A guy above said since Android has ability to change default apps, its cool, which iOS can't. Let me say?
IS ANDROID USELESS AND GARBAGE TO USE, IF YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO RISK ROOT, FLASHING, I MEAN WITHOUT THIS, YOU CAN ENJOY/USE EVEN THE HIGH END ANDROID PHONE? FOR THOSE WHO ARE NOT INTERESTED IN ROOTING? SHOULD NOT CONSIDER ANDROID?
That's what i think, you guys give your opinion. To further back my point, Every one knows LG G2 SMS app was ****, same can be said about Samsung SMS App as well, it was easy to use Hangout which i life being neat, even though lacks features like pop up, but i could not remove or disable LG SMS App without root, which means even if i hide it in Launcher phone always using two apps for same thing? is this not bul****? to use Android? you need to get comfortable with rooting and stuff?
For S Pen Fans?
This question is for S Pen Fans?
I have a shop, i work there, deal with customers, i am normal smart phone user, who is using smartphones since Nokia 6600, way back then.
I understand and i am convinced, Apple changed game, brough touch screen phones to limelight and everything changed? Ruined Nokia of which i was fan.
Now How and due to what Apple managed to change the game? Apple managed to change game by screwing Stylus and bringing finger input method, it was death of stylus, turn out to be stylus was bull****. Now we got rid of it and Samsung, who don't know how to make smooth UI, put it back and telling me its selling feature, fine.
I want fans of S Pen to tell me, how S Pen can help me to use my phone better to those phones without it, like LG G2. Solve my this problem as well, Please. Don't tell me, to make paintings, to write notes, you can type neater, faster and better, and don't even tell me of hover effects, i rather turn those battery enemies and lag friends anyways.
I've had both, I got bored by the fact you can't do much on the iPhone so returned it. Put it this way, the note 3 does everything the iPhone can, and better in every way.

Note 3 size is usually only an issue for a short time. You get used to it very quickly and then when you pick up iPhone you laugh and say how can anyone function on this puny little joke of a screen. Just my personal opinion. I'll never go back to small screen. 6 inch is perfect for me. 7 might even be sometime in the not to distant future.

My Dear Sir, It seems to be u already have iPhone 5s & came to this forum just to find out whether your decision is right or wrong,When u your self is not convince about Note 3 whatever We will say no use, If really you want to buy mobile go to store compare & buy, matter FINISH.

The Note 5 is the most love it/hate it device I've ever owned.

I've never owned an electronic device of any medium that makes me so bipolar. My previous phone which I still have is a cracked Nexus 5 which compelled me to go and get the AT&T Note 5.
On one hand I absolutely LOVE the hardware. It is the most premium feeling handset I've owned by a large margin. The display is by far the most beautiful of any medium. The audio quality from the aux is leagues better than the Nexus 5. The camera crushes the Nexus 5. No more do I have to make sure the camera is focused. It's an amazing point and shoot camera. It's sleek, beautiful and stunning.
And then we are left with the software... WTF Samsung. Apparently this beast is running the fastest mobile SOC currently on the planet along with 4 gigs of RAM, yet for some reason my Nexus 5 hardly ever dips below 60 fps with animations and scrolling while the Note 5 lags like hell. I don't know how much I can attribute this to a higher resolution display, but it's pretty pathetic how a two year old device is smoother than the alleged current king of mobile processing. Hangouts is almost unbearable on this device. Yes, I know the new hangouts has lag however it wasn't nearly this bad on the Nexus. The only area hangouts lagged on the Nexus was group messaging when scrolling up and down the message chain. Chrome lags during scrolling and no it didn't lag on the Nexus. Play Music lags. I installed Google Now launcher because I like the easy accessibility to Google Now and the LAUNCHER LAGS!! I've hadn't experienced a launcher lagging since I owned an HTC Thunderbolt. So many changes to the UI for just the sake of change. I open the app drawer for the first time and almost fainted. WTF are 80% of these apps? I also miss Google's dialer. I really do miss searching for businesses in the dialer. Then there are the subjective elements that I can't stand. The icons are absolutely disgusting. The lock screen font is disgusting. The notification bar is a mess and isn't nearly as clean as stock android. Why the F do I need an NFC icon? Then I'm caught in another dilemma when I attempt to use the material dark theme and the DEVICE LAGS EVEN MORE!?!?!
Man how much I wish Google still had the Google Play edition program because the marriage between stock android with the Note 5 would be heaven. Why couldn't Samsung just keep the stock UI but kept the added features such as S-pen? I really want to keep this device. I really love holding it and consuming media with it, but man navigating through this device is just a mess.

Well, for one thing, I didn't get to finish my sentence. So that was kind of rude. What I was going to say, was some people have disabled and removed bloatware through package disabler pro. I never had any issues with lag before. But I disabled 181 apps and packages and my phone zings along. Android is about customization. I'm sorry you feel you were killed or short changed but I have experienced nothing but great stuff from the Note 5. I get 9-10 hrs of SOT and 20-25 hrs of great use. I have done my research and landed on this phone and couldn't be happier. I'd be happy to help you overcome the so called faults you've found and/or fix them. If your more of a DIYer, go through these threads on the How To's to customize your device to your liking.

Well, let's chalk that up to basic miscommunication. There was no way of me knowing that you were abruptly cut short. I'll see how much magic disabling all the bloat can do though. Hopefully it can solve most of my issues.
Just to be clear. Launching apps isn't the problem. Launching apps is considerably faster on the Note 5 than the Nexus 5 by a solid margin. It's the scrolling and animations that lag.
If you want a list of the ones I did. I can provide it. But I suggest taking the time to learn what each package is responsible for so you can truly tailor the device to your liking. I got a phone call and hit submit instead of answer when the little phone window appeared.
I compare the Note 5 to a new toaster. You know it's general premise and capabilities. But it is set to default or zero when its out of the box. It's up to the user to learn or test which setting is what to generate an optimal performance every time. While our society has grown to where we expect our devices to make us toast out of the box, it is still a device and has the tendency to require our input.

I gotta call bs with 9-10 hrs of SOT unless you really uc the processor have brightness at the min and play zero games.
Fantastic device. User of Note 1 thru 4, i cannot go back to Note 4. Very smooth experience, battery life is way beyond my Note 4 can sustain, and I have not even debloated (not even going to think about it now).
I tend to agree with your post. Scrolling is not as smooth as on my OnePlus One. Even after turning off a lot of background processes.
I feel the exact same way. I love this device, it may be the best android device I have ever used but idk if I can get with this battery life. Coming from a iPhone 6 Plus where I never had to worry about battery life and coming to the Note 5 where I seem to always have to consider my battery life. Yeah I know it has quick charging but that is besides the point. We will see if it gets better or if Samsung rolls out an update to tweak some things (Maybe in the year 2016) but as of right now, I'm paying close attention to my 14-day return period.
Well if you dont like the Note 5 then return it. I've came from a OnePlus One and I am very happy with the phones performance and battery life!
Comparing an iPhone to a note 5 is hardly a fair comparison... the iPhone is like a butter knife, it looks nice and does what it does weĺl... but thats it. The note 5 on the other hand is a swiss army knife of phones.... it does everything and can be tweaked, improved and customised.
If you arent happy thats a shame, enjoy your iPhone.

I also come from a OP1. Although I generally love the phone, for being such a powerhouse, the scrolling behaviour is a bit disappointing. I just held both phones, opening the same apps and somehow I feel the OP is smoother at times. Odd...
They pushed this out at least a month early. and this and the s6 are a brand new hardware platform, not your note 3 era nexus 5 hardware.

Your wrong. I had 4 hours sot @ 46% left and l full brightness too
I agree the Note is fast no doubt, and can open apps faster than my Nexus 6, however over all experience is that the Nexus 6 is smoother with less hiccup. I too wish GPE wasn't dead, but it is and I see no signs of a resurrection. Even the supposed Android silver seems like a pipe dream now. In the end I am happy with Note 5 and will use my JoD for the Huaweii(spell check) nexus
If you have anything like lastpass using accessibility, turn it off and see if the scrolling turns out to work better.
