installed XXUEMJ5 but now device status custom - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
today I installed the jellybean 4.3 XXUEMJ5 update but since installing it it has made my device status go fro official to custom
before the update I was not rooted or anything
can anybody help me get it back to official please

There's a way to get your status back to official if you are using a i9505 I think.
Otherwise (i900 or i9505g) I don't think it's possible.

ye I need to get my device back to official

How can it go from CUSTOM? this is an offical STOCK FIRMWARE from samsung.... ? doesn't make sense...
something isn't right.... when i always update my firmware to a newer one for 4.22 it always says offical.

Yes I know it doesnt make sense thats why im asking for help

Have you tried Factory reset or reinstalling the firmware?

Depends how you upgraded. Did you download a Rom and flash via Odin? If yes, are you absolutely sure it was the official and not a modified one?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk

Probably needs a factory reset. Don't disable any apps and are you using 64gb card?
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app

You need to reinstall the firmware with Odin properly.
I noticed on another thread that you clicked on bootloader button. WRONG. Extract the official Samsung 4.3 firmware file, click on PDA to select the extracted firmware, press start button.
I think you were confused because the leaked firmware had 4 files while official Samsung firmware has I file.

Hi all
Yes I re-flashed the rim using the PDA button and then did a factory reset and every is normal now
Only iv noticed one thing.
The camera as not updated and I thought that jelly bean r.3 included a new camera update.

Something similar happened to me!
Hi!
I've been checking for the 4.3 update on my phone since the announcement that 4.3 update has started. And suddenly yesterday morning I got the message that updates are not available, because my device is custom. Happened overnight, I've only done OTA updates, nothing else and I've had this update for a few weeks at least (maybe even a month), the baseband for the moment is XXUDMH6.
Do you think that it is possible for me to get it back to official in a similar way - flash the same or a newer version, a factory reset and voila?

Are you using a 64GB SD card? Sometimes my phone shows the status as custom, even though it's (currently) totally stock, just because of the SD card.
Take the card out and it goes back to official - strange.

Hey,
I had the same problem on 4.2.2. I had rooted my stock ROM and then updated OTA to MGG and my device status was custom and knox triggered 0x1...I don't really care about device status, but triggering knox really made me mad because I installed fresh rom OTA not some custom ROM ot kernel.. How is this possible? I don't know
Go figure...
Now I flashed with ODIN lastest MJ5 i think and device status is official but what matters knox is 0x1..
I suggest you try factory reset or flash it with ODIN to get back official status so you will be able to update via OTA. There is nothing you can do about knox status for now.

ye well you cannot change the KNOX thing back to OxO
Samsung have already come out and said it is impossible and so have many android developers etc
I wouldn't worry about it anyway its only a KNOX status, I doubt Samsung would refuse to repair your mobile if it needed to be repaired just because of a KNOX status, as long as all the other statuses are OFFICAL etc then it wont matter too much I don't think

[Q] Unable to Unroot i9500

I am sorry if this has been asked here earlier.
The only s4 available in my country is the 9500.
I rooted the phone after i bought solely for the reason that I can delete the bloatware.
I happened to com across this MOD which makes the statusbar transparent.
Once I did that, the phone started acting funny.
I want to start over with the official stock rom.
I tried doing that by installing the official stock firmware using ODIN 3.07. Then wiped data and cache from the recovery.
It still boots with the transparent statusbar. Feels like the system files are unchanged.
Anyway I can get a fresh offcial stock rom on the device ?
Any help is of great help.

Hi,
Look HERE
I think you need to factory reset as well.
So, back up your stuff first.
I used the same tutorial to flash my phone with an official firmware. The only thing I changed was the firmware file because theres a newer version available.. the latest stock firmware was downloaded at sammobile..
please help. Is it necessary to reset the binary to 0 using triangle away for the firmware to install properly ??

[Q] Cannot update firmware via official channels despite reinstalling stock firmware

I don't know what's going on here.
I've had a rooted phone for a while, but wanted to update to 4.3 since that came out recently.
So I've reinstalled the stock firmware on my I9505 (XXUAME2, Poland), the whole big package. Installing this went without a problem, and now I'm back with a stock ROM. I did this because I wanted to go the official update path (perhaps I don't really need this, but... well, I'm a flash-addict).
However, if I try to find a new update using the "Update" button in the "About device" menu, all I get is an information that I've already got the latest software.
KIES, on the other hand, tells me that my device's current firmware version is not supported.
What's going on here?

Hi,
Did you try Triangle Away, from the market?
It will show if you triggered the flash counter.
Having said that, you still have the old ,non-knox bootloader.
You might want to just keep that and flash custom ROMS.
They have all the goodness of official ones, but you are still free of any restrictions.

I've used Triangle Away before, to reset my counter. Of course, after flashing in the official firmware the phone's no longer rooted, so Triangle Away won't work.
That said, I THINK I know why the official update procedure(s) failed - I've mixed up the firmware for my product code. Apparently when I originally rooted the device I've changed the product code to BTU and have been using that ever since without really knowing about it. But now I've installed the Polish firmware XEO, and I think this is why the update process went crazy.
With regards to custom ROMs... I've already got the phone configured the exact way I like it, and I know some custom ROMs can be... quite different. Are there any specific custom ROMs you had in mind that have all the goodies of official ROMs without the restrictions you mentioned?

Hi,
TA is used while you are still rooted to reset the counter.
Then, you install stock ROM/firmware.
Only you know how you like your phone,so only you can make that decision about the ROM you choose.
The main restrictions are that once you root the new firmware with the new knox bootloader, you will trigger the knox warranty, and you will never be able to flash an older firmware.
Not everyone is bothered by this,so, this is all a personal choice again.

Any chance there's a custom ROM created from the stock firmware but with the bootloader removed?
I've read about Knox and I'm kind of glad the firmware update failed, as I wouldn't feel comfortable with that "warranty void" flag...

Samsung S5 - Lollipop - can i downgrade back to KitKat

Hi Guys,
I stupidly got excited and installed the official Lollipop (S5 on THREE UK network) update when i was notified.
BUT...
I want to go back to KitKat as i preferred it (i wont go into reasons why)
Is there a downgrade path for me, either officially or unofficially?> I dont think there is at the moment.
Thanks guys!
Yep, this forum is literally packed with instructions on how to do it, a simple search will bring up what you need
hi thanks, i thought with the new protected bootloader i didnt think it possible.
this is what i read:
Note: The G900FXXU1BNL9 Android 5.0 Lollipop update comes with a protected bootloader it is clearly emphasize that the “SE for Android Status – Enforcing” that might cause issues when you try to downgrade to the old software updates. This also applies if you are planning into rooting and installs any custom recovery and any unsigned firmware once you are on Android 5.0 Lollipop , so please be aware with that.

Yesterday I tried out AllianceROM 6.0 and a few hours ago I went back to 4.4.2 'cause I liked it better than Lollipop. Here's what I did :
1. Enter Download Mode and flash STOCK 4.4.2 KitKat firmware in Odin (I used 3.10.6) and let it start booting.
2. It won't boot, this is normal (I panicked when this happened though ).
3. Go to recovery and factory reset/wipe data your phone.
4. Now hit reboot in recovery and your phone will boot up again (YAY :sun.
5. OPTIONAL : If you've made a nandroid backup before going to 5.0 you can now flash TWRP and restore it over your STOCK 4.4.2 KitKat firmware.
Hope I helped Let me know if it works out for you!
SUCCESS!!!
All sorted.
The hardest part was finding a link to the rom. sammobile kept giving me a gateway 502 error.
im now back to kitkat, AND no THREE UK rubbish.

[Q] Cannot update to lollipop using FOA

First things first, I am not very techy and am only trying to accomplish one goal on my galaxy s5 - update to lollipop.
I'm trying to do it by going to Settings --> About device --> Software Update. Everytime I try it check's for updates and says 'The Latest Updates have already been installed'.
My device is unrooted and running Android 4.4.2 and is unlocked. My brother bought the exact same phone and got the update over FOA more than a month ago!
I can't find anywhere on the internet to help me out, I don't want to update manually.. I wan't to know why my device won't update automatically.
Any thoughts on what I can try? Does it need a factory reset? Has anyone else got this issue? Help much appreciated.
sorry my friend the only way is to manually update it using odin on computer.
but, you can try to connect your mobile with kies and see your csc country then look in sammobile website if your country csc got lollipop, if so try to factory reset and then check for an update , but first make backup of your data.

But why won't it update via FOA? Is this a common thing where Samsung picks and chooses who gets it (seems kinda wrong), or is it possible I've got a fake phone? I've got a lot of stuff on the phone and don't really wanna go through the whole backup system restore process. I type on google my problem and it just comes up with stupid articles like 'How's lollipop treating you'.. it's like nobody has my problem but me?
Did some more digging around and found the following info for my phone:
AP: G900FXXU1ANJ1
CP: G900FXXU1ANJ1
CSC: G900FOXX1ANJ1
Searching the CSC on Sammobile tells me that the latest version for my phone is still 4.4.2 (not even 4.4.4?? It's like Samsung forgot about it).
Oddly, it says the country is Portugal (TPH) for this CSC, even though I bought a UK phone. This prompted me to check the IMEI on IMEI.info which confirms that the phone is legit..
I downloaded keys at it tells me the firmware version is:
PDA:NJ1 / CSC:NJ1 / PHONE:NJ1(TPH)
It says the latest firmware is already installed.
I'm wondering if my phone will ever get updated to lollipop (the fact that its still on 4.4.2 tells me maybe never). So I want to try and do this manually. Is there a way to change the country code? Will this void my warranty? Or can I manually force lollipop onto the phone via Kies? Do I need to root?
Some clear instruction for me to follow would be much appreciated. Thanks guys

yes it is... but i want lollipop .. will it void it? If yes thats ok Ill go ahead anyway
Rather than focusing on the goal of upgrading to lollipop, do some research about whether you actually want/need to.......
Quite a few members have posted here about problems and instabilities with lollipop.
Also, if you intend to root your device and tweak/modify it, the general advice is to stay at 4.4.2, as 5.0.0 tends to 'reduce the possibilities'......

I have no idea if it will void the warranty. When I flashed my device to 5.0 with the Polish release my CSC changed to XEO from H3G and my knox is still 0x0. What is your carrier? Head over to sammobile.com and download the rom corresponding to your carrier, and flash it as normal.

^^ I am currently flashing back to 4.4.2 so my stability and battery life isn't wrecked. I would also recommend staying on KitKat.
5.0.0 seems to be (by all accounts) a bit of a 'rush job'......
5.0.1 and/or 5.0.2 will be more polished and stable.....
Also Samsung have (from what I've read) included a new 'secure' bootloader with 5.0 and beyond, which apparently is causing 'issues'.........

The latest firmware for Portugal TPH is 4.4.2, Lollipop for that region has not been released yet.
If your brother has 5.0 on his phone with UK firmware than he most likely has BTU firmware
You can update yours to BTU which as actually a UK & Europe generic multi CSC firmware from Sammobile here. LINK
You will need to download it you will need Odin to do it, but after installing you will need to do a factory reset otherwise you CSC will not change and the phone will be unstable
Lollipop 5.0 for me is extremely stable and battery life far better than any other version I have had, screen clip below shows 2 days 20 hours since last charge and phone at 62% this is with light usage though

Hi ag4751.. this sounds good.. I will get odin and try this. Do you mind being more specific about the factory reset? Is this something I do within settings or do I need to do that volume up power off button thing and access the function from there? Also (probably silly question) but does factory resetting completely wipe all my data and apps? thanks

Yes, factory reset will basically wipe you apps, data everything so backup everything, pictures, music etc, anything that is on your internal storage your External SD Card wont be touched everything else will, It resets the phone to the out of the box condition so if for example you are on level 300 in candy crush unless its synced up to facebook you will be back at level 1.
You do the Factory reset through Settings > User and Backup > Backup and Reset.
You will need to enable Developer Options in About Device if not already done as you need to enable USB Debugging.
Factory resetting is a last resort normally but it does tend to clear a lot of problems if the phone is not working properly but do it after you have flashed the new rom.
This is a good guide to using Odin, its on the S3 forum but the procedure is exactly the same with the S5, If you download the BTU rom it will contain a single .tar file you need to extract that from the zip file.
Reply here is you have any other questions regarding flashing with Odin it is simple but if you are not used to it, it can be worrying.
Cool. I'm downloading the firmware now. I've got USB debugging enabled. A question about the factory reset though. Is there a reason why we do this within Settings and not by pressing the power-->volume down--> home button and accessing those options? Under that menu there is also a 'wipe cache' option. Basically I was planning to flash the firmware using odin, then immediately factory reset and wipe cache before actually loading up lollipop. Does that sound ok?

You can do it that way, the only reason Factory Reset is in setting is to save you having to boot into recovery to do it, its exactly the same, there are additional wipe options in recovery such as cache and the factory reset, a factory reset will wipe the cache as well when its run you don't need to do it separately.
If you want to wipe the cache and factory reset from recovery it wont hurt anything.

Flash new firmware

Hey all!
So, I've got a Note 3 SM-N9005 but I've got this issue. When I try to update my Kitkat to Lollipop it says "Your device have been modified, Software updates are not available". I did have it rooted around a year ago and when I click 'Status' at the device info screen, it says 'modified', so I guess that's the issue.
Either way, I'd like Lollipop since I've heard it can solve the bad wifi connection issue, but I have no clue on how to install the new firmware safe and sound on my Note 3.
Does someone have any tips for me on where to find the newest stock firmware and how to flash it on my device? Or how to remove the 'Modified' status so I can get the update over the air?
Thanks in advance!
P.s. My Knox isn't void, it still says 0x0

Yeah I read a lot already, but most of it is dated back at least a few months. And I thought, since this is an expert forum.
Should I just backup everything (like put everything on my computer and use some software to backup game data + sms data etc.) and use Kies? Or should I use Odin and download stock firmware from Sammobile? I'm really not an expert and I don't want to **** it up and brick my phone.
Have a look in the developer section, there are several different custom ROM you can use, I currently have the Phronesis ROM on my Note3 it's a Lollipop Note5 ROM and it is working very good with all the Note5 features such as screen note on lock screen etc.
hi, backup all to your pc and download stock rom and flash with odin or custom rom, but if you want ota flash stock
