Using the stock email app, I'll delete or mark as read the emails. But then I'll get notifications of new emails, and half of them will be the ones I've deleted or marked as read. Anyone else experiencing this? Am I missing something in settings?

I'm having issues with the gmail app, once i read an item if i mark it read and delete it, it will remove from my inbox and be marked as read and go to trash as expected, but then later when i get another email my notification will tell me i have for example 3 emails, when i open the gmail app there is only one email listed but at the top it will say "Email (3)", so i checked the "trash" and there is nothing there, so i then go to "all mail" and the 2 i deleted earlier are moved there and marked unread......does anyone have any idea how to fix this??

had the same issue... to fix it i went into my gmail on the pc and opened some emails...deleted my trash..etc....and since, no more gmail issues on the phone.
i read on here somewhere...that having gmail open on a computer, and your phone at the same time can wreak a lil havoc...iirc
Thanks!
I havent had both the desktop and phone versions of gmail open at the same time, and i have done the delete on gmail.com thing, that only works for the next couple syncs then it comes back....
I just cleared my app data, cache and gmail storage cache, i'm going to see if that fixes it, if it does i'll post up for others that my encounter the same issue
ok as i stated i would post up my results, it looks like clearing the gmail app data and cache, as well as the gmail storage cache worked, i'm no longer having this issue
I have some sync issues with Gmail apps too. It doesn't show somme mails, sometimes yes, sometimes no...
Where are the caches for Gmail apps to clear them up please ?
Hey guys,
I hope i can get some user insight on this. I have found this to be very odd and confusing in my gmail for quite some time.
My gmail app in my nexus s shows that some unread mail is in the INBOX. eg:Inbox(2)
when i click in it, it doesnt show it. However when i go to labels, ALL MAIL the unread items are in there.
Why wouldnt they show the item in Inbox and i have to dig through labels to find it?
also ive noticed in wifi and sometimes in 3g/2g, sending mail gets hung up and never attempts to resend email, i inspected my outbox and show 5 emails i thought i sent out like a month ago! still showing 'sending...' in read, which is extremely dissapointing because they were important!
im slowly boiling over between these two situations and would GREATLY appreciate it if someone can help...somehow. I heavily rely on email and im so thrown off by this
Many thanks!
My best guess is that the unread emails are older emails. E.g., the GMail app only fetches the first 25 emails, but the unread emails are no. 57 and 63. So, you have so scroll down to load more messages to view these unread emails.
I really wish the GMail app had a setting to show only unread emails.
Is this just ur gmail app? Did u try clearing data via settings?

You may have your gmail setup to only show your priority inbox instead of the regular inbox. I ran into that same problem before.
Hi Guys,
Quite often I see that the Gmail app on my N7 (second generation) does not show the latest emails even after a complete sync. I have to switch between folders (say from Inbox to Priority-Inbox, and back to Inbox) to see the new emails. I know I am not the only to see this issue as I have seen a few redditors complaining about it as well, but I was wondering if any know of a solution to this problem.
Most often i have to do the folder switch trick as I do not know if the list of emails is up to date. This is a big annoyance.
Thanks,
nitro
I've never had problems with Gmail...
on an other note, you're posting this under the wrong forum, this should be in Questions and Answers
I have found no way to check all you mail accounts at once in "combined view" in the mail program. You need to go to each one and refresh it to check it.
Thats is of course if you DO NOT have your push setup.
Wondered if anybody got a solution for this, really a trivial thing, but annoying for me.
I got the settings on 100mails, and autorefresh every hour.
then lets say i refresh my email, I get 4 marketing emails etc that i delete, then the email loads in 4 old emails in the inbox that ofcourse go on the bottom of the list since they are the oldest ones.. have to manually mark them as read. if I delete these ones also, it just loads in 4 new old mails...
think this is because the stock mail is persistent on keeping 100mails in the inbox at all times. and there is no option to have for the last 14 days instead .. any workaround for this? i like the stock mail app.
im rooted, cwm and xposed in regards of a workaround.
I'm using the gmail app right now, but I'm trying to switch over to the stock app to take advantage of the aod email notifications (for the time being anyway....). I'm not sure if i'm missing something or I'm the biggest noob around or what, but I can't seem to archive new gmail messages from the inbox or the stock email app. My options are swipe right: Move,Set Reminder,Unread,Reply ... swipe left: Delete. I noticed if I move messages, I have to select a folder to put them in. This marks then as read, however, I would like to simply archive my messages and have them appear in 'All Messages' without having a label attached to them. Is this possible and I'm totally missing something? Or is this just gonna happen? I realize this is more of a standard email client, but given the amount of gmail accounts out there, this is something I would expect would be available for a google email account. I will stick to the Gmail app for now, but would be nice to know, even just to get the oad notifications, thanks.
ps - I searched the forums first, but if I missed the answer already, sorry.
tldr: Archive in Samsung mail client ... where is it?
Don't think you are going to get it with the stock app. However, when Nougat rolls out for the S7 I am hoping the AOD will also update to show all notifications.

Albeit a little late to reply to you, but I ran into the same issue.
The answer basically is that in Gmail terms, archiving a message means removing all tags from it.
You can do this on the Samsung mail app by "moving" it to "all messages" folder...it sucks, I know
Well, I'm not 100% to your liking, but I did not use either both gmail or samsung mail. I switched to bluemail. If you want, you should try

It's the same as on iPhones I think, where a gmail account on their default email client app will go straight to delete.
Moreover, as Yahoo app does the same (I think), the outlier might actually be Gmail which doesn't let you delete, but only archive emails.
