RESOLVED: Enabling LTE on Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (model: SM-N900W8) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (model: SM-N900W8) and wish to enable LTE for a specific carrier? Follow these in-depth instructions and you will enable LTE for this specific model. My Samsung Galaxy Note 3 model is from WIND Mobile and I use both WIND Mobile and Telus SIMS on the device (interchange when needed). When using WIND, I get their default 4G data speeds and with Telus, I now have LTE which is like going from a Honda to a Corvette.
These instructions will work with all the SM-N900W8 models but you will need to select the appropriate root for your country/carrier (as indicated in Chainfire's post).
Should you have any questions, please respond to the post or send me a PM and I will assist where possible.
Thank you to the following 3 individuals! Some assisted with their general posts while others provided informative information via PM to ease me into the process:

UNLOCKING YOUR DEVICE
Before you are able to use another carrier SIM in your device, you must first unlock the device. I know there is a method of doing this for free after rooting but I paid $32.99 USD and received my unlock code through cellunlocker.net. If unlocking to use a SIM from another country, make sure you first activate with the original SIM. Failure to do so will region lock the device so you cannot use it with an International SIM. The only way around this is to pay a Samsung technician to reset the device. Since I use WIND and Telus, both carriers are Canadian so I went ahead and unlocked my device using the Telus SIM directly as I do not need to worry about a regional lock.
ROOTING THE DEVICE
1) Download and install Kies (for the Drivers) from here http://www.samsung.com/ca/support/model/SM-N900WZKEBWA
2) Download the ODIN software and ROOT provided by Chainfire:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46098951&postcount=3
3) Unzip the files just downloaded and run the ODIN software. Once loaded, click on the PDA button and browse to the ROM file:
CF-Auto-Root-hltecan-hlteub-smn900w8.tar.md5 (this was the file I selected for my Canadian provider as my device is WIND Mobile). Make sure the check-box in the ODIN software that says "Re-Partition" is either unchecked or greyed out.
4) Power off your device and once off, reboot into the Android system by pressing Volume Down + Home Button + Power (all at once). When you see the Galaxy Note 3 logo, let go and it will present you with a warning regarding installation of customized OS's. Click on the volume up button and this will allow you to continue and present you with a Android logo screen and the word "Downloading".
5) Plug your device into the USB port and click on the "Start" button within the ODIN software. It should take a couple of minutes but the status window in ODIN should say successful.
CONGRATULATIONS... You have now rooted your device!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
INSTALLING TWRP (TEAM WIN RECOVERY PROJECT)
I loaded the above program which I recommend you do as well. TWRP is a fully touch base recovery software program that allows you to store/backup and save custom ROMS either to your computer or to the device itself through internal storage or external SD. Think of it as a simple way to manage your device rather than having to enter a bunch of codes or press key sequences to get into specific low level menus of your device.
The software can be downloaded from the following link. I downloaded the latest 2.6.3.4 version:
http://goo.im/devs/OpenRecovery/hltecan
1) Power off your device and once off, reboot into the Android system by pressing Volume Down + Home Button + Power (all at once). When you see the Galaxy Note 3 logo, let go and it will present you with a warning regarding installation of customized OS's. Click on the volume up button and this will allow you to continue and present you with a Android logo screen and the word "Downloading".
2) Load the ODIN software, click the PDA button and select the TWRP package you just downloaded:
openrecovery-twrp-2.6.3.4-RC1-hltecan.img
3) Plug your device into the USB port and click on the "Start" button within the ODIN software. It should take a couple of minutes but the status window in ODIN should say successful.
CONGRATULATIONS... You have just installed the TWRP software which will open your device up to a world of possibilities.

INSTALLING AN LTE CAPABLE ROM/MODEM
Now that you have your device rooted and the TWRP software installed, we now want to enable the LTE capability so you can use this device at the best speeds possible! Unlike what many have posted, I confirmed with AllGamer you can load any carrier SM-N900W8 ROM onto the device as long as the models version match (ie: SM-N900W8). My device is WIND Mobile and this carrier does not support LTE so the fastest speed I can select is 4G which is WCDMA/GSM in the network mode settings. Since I will be using the device on Telus with LTE data speeds, I want to install this ROM but ensure the device will have LTE as a option which I can select under network mode.
1) Go to the following link and download the carrier specific ROM for the provider you wish to use your phone with (in my case, Telus):
http://www.samsungis.com/Firmwares/SM-N900W8.html
2) This is a large file so I downloaded it to my Pcloud account then onto my computer which took about 30 minutes. Once the file is on your computer, extract the contents.
3) Power off your device and once off, reboot into the Android system by pressing Volume Down + Home Button + Power (all at once). When you see the Galaxy Note 3 logo, let go and it will present you with a warning regarding installation of customized OS's. Click on the volume up button and this will allow you to continue and present you with a Android logo screen and the word "Downloading".
4) Load the ODIN software, click the PDA button and select the ROM package you just downloaded (in my case, Telus):
N900W8VLUBMJ1_N900W8OYABMJ1_N900W8VLUBMJ1_HOME.tar.md5
5) Plug your device into the USB port and click on the "Start" button within the ODIN software. It should take around 5 minutes but the status window in ODIN should say successful.
6) Your device will now reboot and you will need to go through the setup process. Once complete, you think LTE will be enabled but you are wrong! You must dial the following key sequence to bring up a regional carrier menu: *#272*[IMEI]# (that is *#272* (your IMEI number) #) - To find your IMEI number, check your manufacturer box or press *#06# from your call menu and it's the first 15 - digits.
When the menu pops up, it will show a listing of codes and it matches the "region" list that's shown at the following link: http://www.samsungis.com/Firmwares/SM-N900W8.html
When the menu comes up, select the regional code for the carrier ROM you just installed (in my case, Telus which was "TLS"). The phone will now go through a reset/boot sequence and come this time, it should read the APN settings from your SIM card and viola, you now have LTE. If you do not see LTE but 3G, you will need to ensure your APN settings are correct and then go into the Network Mode and ensure you have LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto mode) selected.
CONGRATULATIONS... You now have rooted your device, installed a custom ROM for the carrier you wish to use LTE on and have LTE capability. Since you have installed a specific ROM and set the regional carrier settings to this ROM, if you look under your status menu, instead of it saying "Custom" next to "Device Status", it will show "Original".
I hope this information helps others who have been stuck with enabling LTE on their device. Remember, LTE will only work for carriers who support LTE capability. Should I switch my SIM card and put my WIND SIM back into the device, it will work but the MAX data speed I will get is 4G.
Good luck everyone and again, please thank the above 3 individuals for the countless amount of times they have helped us members out with our problems!

Great post!
seems like the most important part was step #6
that was the missing info to complete the LTE setup.

Thanks! Look at everything that can be accomplished with a little hard work, dedication and assistance from those in the know. I only wish I was able to figure this out sooner without bricking a device. A costly mistake but a learning experience so all in all, no complaints!

will this work for the N9005 model?? I currently have
AP: N9005XXUBMJ1
CP:N9005XXUBMJ1
CSC: N9005OLBBMI3
Im using T-mobile right now, and would like to know if its possible to get the LTE for T-mobile in the US.
Thank you

So let's say I have a Mobilicity N3, and use this method to install the Bell ROM. Does this mean I now have a "Bell" N3? Will the OTA updates still work? Will this cause any known issues? If I factory reset the phone, it will be reset as a Bell N3?
Theoretically, installing any of the Big 3 (Robellus) ROMs should do the trick from an LTE perspective, assuming you've SIM-unlocked the phone, yes?

Hi, i have an N900W8 Rogers Note 3. I have a T-Mobile rom flashed on the phone., however, my baseband is still MJ1 (Same as my Rogers stock rom). And im having Poor LTE reception. Can you provide a CWM flash-able zip modem i can flash that might fix this issue? Or can i download the stock rom myself and flash ONLY the Modem? Thanks!

I suggest to do verifications before you flash a modem. Call Rogers and ask tell to do a "resend to switch". Call from an other phone if u can and listen to instructions
Also, update the phone to the latest firmware to have the latest modem.
Info: you can flash kitkat although the approved version by Rogers itself is not out yet.

Hi, i am with Fido. The Note 3 is from Rogers though (Same company). I dont want to flash the entire stock rom is the reason im asking for only the modem. I was wrong before, currently im using an N9005 Note 3 rom called Hawkish Elite. And the rom i was on prior to this one was the T-Mobile Note 3 based Darthstalker rom. I really dont want to have to flash the stock rom. So any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

This firmware download link for rogers canada is dead....anyone has the other link?thanks...

Rogers LTE issue
hello all,
I was wondering if someone could guide me in the right direction as i need help enabling LTE on my phone on the rogers network.
I came across a thread about enabling LTE on the SM-N900W8 model of the samsung galaxy note 3 (the one i have)
I do not have LTE showing up on my phone, i tried speed test and the best i get is 4G with 9mb download speeds.
I actually sent my phone in to repair and the gentleman swapped out the motherboard to change the IMEI legally.
Its an unlocked phone at this point and it has model number SM-N900W8, ive gone into the settings and selected LTE coverage but it doesnt give me more than 4G.
getting back to the instructions on the thread, i had a couple of questions.
If my phone is already rooted to another version can i follow the step by step instructions and "re-root" over the existing root which is the second instruction after unlocking the phone itself in this thread. Will it "brick my phone?"
on The third set of instructions for installing an LTE capable ROM/Modem i dont see any rogers options when i click on the link...can i load a Bell one as currently i think my phone had a bell one installed onto it as it had Bell TV bloatware etc when i got it back from the motherboard swap out. IT IS an original Rogers phone.
your guidance on this matter is greatly appreciated, i was so happy to search and find a thread helping with my needs!
First post!

I have a Fido firmware on my device (country code FMC)... and I'm using it with Virgin Mobile. Do I really need to do all those steps if connecting to LTE is not really a problem right now? I did not do a speed for now because LTE coverage is nearly non existent where I am... but I see it connecting to LTE.
If I do all the steps to change the ROM and CSC, will it format/reset my device?

Also for those unaware you can force LTE only by typing in *#2263# and Selecting LTE Band Pref -> LTE ALL
Please note you will be unable to receive a voice call as (in Canada at least) calls are still handled on the UMTS/HSPA network as no carrier I'm aware of has VoLTE yet.

...and if one switches over to LTE only, can that same phone be put back without issue? any tested?

[HOW-TO] Flash your at&t Tab to make calls + 1900+850 WCDMA - UPDATED

Please note that i am not responsible if you brick your Galaxy Tab.
This worked for me and i now have a Galaxy Tab, on At&t making calls + 3G data + 850/1900Mhz WCDMA enabled.
**please note you need to have a SIM card with a proper voice plan and DATA plan for this to work. do not try this with the prepaid card that came with the Tab.
1) Download the firmware P1000XWJJ4 from HERE (pass: samfirmware.com)
2) download the firmware P1000XXJK5 from HERE (pass: samfirmware.com)
3) download Odin 1.3 from HERE
4) download the modem_bell_i9000.zip file attached to his post and extract it.
A) put you tab into download mode and flash P1000XWJJ4 with P1_add_hidden.pit and repartition selected. The phone will reboot and will be in Russian.
B) Put the phone into download mode again. flash P1000XXJK5 with NO repartition and NO PIT file. the phone will reboot with the latest euro firmware in english.
C) finish the setup wizard, if you do not get DATA at this point (3G or EDGE) at this point go into APN settings and change the APN from "Broadband" to "wap.cingular"
D) Put the Tab into download mode and flash the attached modem.bin file (the one you extracted) by selecting the bin file under "phone" in Odin. NO repartition and NO PIT file.
E) At this point your phone will reboot and you should have 850/1900Mhz enabled and everything you should work just like the euro version of the Tab.
Done and done.
UPDATE: I found that at&t are disabling HSUPA on the Tab, thus using the at&t original modem will not be ideal. I found that the Bell Galaxy S 2.2 modem is the only modem i found so far that will give us 850/1900Mhz + HSUPA + voice calls.
Please flash this modem instead. it is attached.
Nice... How come we need to go to the Russian ROM first? Thanks again Clubtech.
Because it is the only real full flash firmware we currently have and that fixes the boot logo problem i had when i didn't do a full flash before.
XXJK5 is not a full flash, but incremental one so we have to flash twice.

T-mobile are blocking the data plans by IMEI, so there is nothing we can do unless you want to fake your IMEI.
As long as the IMEI stays the same, even if you got 3G and voice to work, data will still be blocked on regular phone plan sim cards so there is no point really.
For blocking by IMEI T-mobile should see all their tabs returned as far as i care.

It shouldn't be blocked (unless T-MO is blocking ALL Tab IMEI's, not just their own), but even so you'll be unable to use 3G, it'll be EDGE only, since the AT&T device won't support T-Mo's AWS frequencies.

What if i flash it using your instruction and insert my att sim card will it work? Thanks a million!
A small update.
So it appears that at&t have disabled HSUPA so the upload speeds are slow (it is capped around 386Kbps).
I tried flashing the Bell modem.bin. it kept the 850Mhz and disabled the upload cap but i could not longer make or receive calls.
Flashing back to the at&t modem back and i was able to make calls but the upload speed is again capped.
Thank-you at&t!!! for crippling my hardware!!
Anyone can post the modem from Rogers? that would be helpful to try.

1. Download the pit file
2. Flash the PDA, Phone and CSC
according to general flashing instruction here http://www.samfirmware.com/P1000 how to flash.pdf ?
And when come the 2nd flash, skip the pit file and flash the other 3: PDA, Phone and CSC?
Thanks again.

Ok, Bell GT-P1000M is now flashed with JK5 and the AT&T Modem, and is fully voice and data functional on Telus (I manually unlocked it) in both 850 and 1900 bands.
Rock on.
Since the Rogers version is the same as AT&T, this should work on the Rogers galaxy tab too right?

[Q] Help with Modem - Model: WIND (SM-N900W8)

I am really new to the world of ROOTING & FLASHING and have already bricked one device. I have followed a lot of information provided by the gurus on here but am at a standstill with my new device as I cannot afford to brick a second one due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to this stuff.
I do not wish to root my device at this time but did read the post talking about "regional" lock. It seems this is only relevant if people unlock their device through the rooting method. Since my device is from WIND Mobile (unactivated) and I purchased an unlock code from cellunlocker.net, I assume I can input my Telus SIM and I would not have to worry about a regional lock? As I understand, the purchased unlock code would supersede the regional lock correct?
As for Telus... When I unlock my WIND device, I assume it will be like my original where Telus voice worked but data was limited with 3G. This was due to the radio band for LTE being crippled in the device. I was told without rooting, I could still use the device with LTE but would have to FLASH the LTE modem through the ODIN software. When I look at the link which provides "flashable" modems, there is nothing there for my specific model.
AllGamer posted a modem (.bin) file for the Puerto Rico modem which supports LTE but confirmed with me this is not a file which can be flashed through ODIN and has to be packaged (or something to this affect). This is all too new to me and so if anyone could provide the steps to FLASH a compatible LTE modem onto my device without rooting so I have LTE support enabled, this would be great!
Thank you!
Issue is resolved. Currently, you cannot just flash the modem and must root and install a custom ROM supporting LTE. Once this device has been out long enough, the possibilities of modification will be greater but for now, my device from WIND works with Telus and has LTE data.
First, Telus, Rogers, Bell, Wind....all these carrier carry the same model of Note3 and running the same ROM
all you have to do is pull out your Wind sim card and do a factory reset. Then put in your Telus Sim card.
Phone will find Telus CSC setting and set it up as Telus phone.
As long your phone is sim unlock with Wind Mobile, any Canadian carrier should be working with your phone
About LTE, maybe there just don't have any LTE signal in the area, or your LTE setting has been turn off.
All you need to do is go into setting check under network and see if the phone is running GSM/CDMA/LTE or GSM/CDMA only, just switch between 2 and you will get your LTE with Telus LTE sim.
You don't have to worry about region code once your purchase unlocked online. region lock only apply when the phone never activate with local sim card and trying to activate with sim card from other countries. Just put in your Telus SIM and setting up the phone. Wind has this phone becuz it support AWS network, it doesn't mean the phone come with different modem!
Since you are not looking to root your phone or anything....there really no need for any flashing!

You are only partially right with your response. Look at my other threads with how to get things functional. First, the phone is the same model for each Canadian carrier but as per the agreements between the carriers and Samsung, specific bands have been crippled. I unlocked my Note 3 so yes, the Telus SIM will be recognized upon a factory reset and will pick up the correct APN settings but since the LTE modem has been crippled, the device is great for voice but has sloooooow 3G data.
In order to get the device working with LTE, you must flash an LTE capable modem onto the device. Since this device is new on the market, no modem (.bin) file has been made flashable. At this point, the only option is to root your phone. Even when rooting and installing the Telus firmware (ROM), this will still not enable LTE as there's a safeguard in the device. Once the phone has been rooted, you must go into the regional settings for the device and select the carrier setting for the ROM you just installed. This will format the device and reboot with your carrier setting thus enabling LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) within your network settings menu. Only at this point, will you have true LTE capability otherwise, you're using a phone with hindered capabilities. Using Telus on 3G is like driving a Corvette with a Cavalier motor.

LOL  I have already rooted, flashed the Telus ROM and enabled LTE on my device. It is a little more complicated than what you've suggested but yes, you are partially right. Even with the Telus ROM, you need to ensure you've enabled the radio/modem for LTE capability. Thanks for your suggestions!

Your digging around has misled you. The GT-I9505 has 2100MHz support for 3g, as noted here, here, and here. It also has 2100MHz support for LTE. So something else is causing your issue. Are you certain your phone isn't in fact getting an LTE signal instead of 3G?

Well... sadly after digging around i found out that the phone doesn't support 2100 frequency.

Based upon the information you've provided, you're on the Baltic Black Edition firmware (CSC SEB). The firmware here though doesn't appear to be the problem. The problem is that you need to clear up some confusion here. You're saying you can't get LTE, are using unbranded firmware, yet your phone is locked to a carrier.
In an attempt to clear up things, please provide us with the missing information below, and confirm any already provided information is correct.
1. Model Number
Answer: GT-I9505, based upon the title of the thread.
2. Android Version, found by going to Settings > More > About device.
Answer: 4.4.2, based upon the firmware information.
3. Firmware Version (AP, CP, CSC), found by dialing *#1234# in the dialer or by installing and running Phone Info from the Play Store.
Answer: AP and CP I9505XXUGNJ8, CSC I9505YXXGNK1, which using the sammobile.com firmware checker links to the Baltic Black Edition firmware.
4. Service Provider
5. Country
6. Is the phone rooted? (Yes/No)
7. Is a custom ROM installed? (Yes/No, and the name of the ROM)
Answer: No, if you're able to pull up the firmware version via *#1234#.

NOS (formerly PT Multimedia, ZON Multimedia and ZON Optimus). You will have to flash the latest firmware for your locked device. Download, unzip and flash this firmware via ODIN: HERE.
thanks but as i said before, i've tried many stock firmware, including that... that was te first one because i also thought that was something related to simlock
i will send the phone to warranty, or try at least
@Joku1981: If I didn't have to work today I would have told him the same thing.
@monteiro-ribas: If you intend on having the phone swapped out, you might want to flash the correct firmware that Joku1981 provided the link to before sending the phone in. I do hope you let us know if you get your issue resolved and whether it actually was the phone or, alternatively, the service.

My original post in modems:
Ok guys, my kingdom for a solution, please !!!
Here's the deal, I have a samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505 bought in hong kong, worked flawlessly for over a year on Telcel Mexico network, took a trip overseas to France bought a sim put it in the phone, worked great !!!!, came home put in my original sim and since then my S4 has been unable to maintain a stable 3g connection, usually connects for a under a minute and reverts back to edge. I've tried many different things recommended on this and other forums:
1.- removing/replacing sim card
2.- removing/replacing battery for over 4 hrs
3.- tried different sim cards from different carriers with same result
4.- wipe and clean install with different firmwares
5.- installed cyanogenmod latest
6.- under network modes, tried selecting every combination of lte, 3g, 2g, automatic network registration and selecting my preferred network.
7.- tried flashing over 30 different modems
8.- flashed latest firmware from sammobile specific to my phone (I9505ZHUFNL1_I9505ZZHFNL1_TGY)
9.- took it to a "technician" and he managed to return my phone in the exact same condition with the exception that now the wifi didnt work (i managed to fix this on my own)
10.- installed advanced signal status from play store which gave acces to other goodies such as selecting radio band between automatic, europe and usa, tried everyone of them with no solution.
Tried to be as thorough as possible, hope someone out there has a solution. I thank you all for your time and experience. Happy Holidays !!!!! I hope I am posting in the correct area, i searched and found this is the place where my problem seems to be discussed
P.D. Since im flashing GPE right now the screenshots no longer reflect what im on but I do have a nandroid back up of this rom and I am about to restore it.
Hope I was thorough, thanks for any help

Hello, i need the steps to. the link is broken.

[N910S] got it to work! Exynos Korean model, Eng-only custom ROM, no bloatware!

OK, *FIRST TIME POSTER HERE* so please excuse any unintentional ignorance of rules or etiquette.
I'm just super excited to get this phone working the way I like it, and it's all thanks to xda so I was moved to create an account to express my thanks AND hopefully help a few people back.
How? Well after reading through pretty much everything I could find on the N910S here and elsewhere, it seems that no-one (yet?) has been able to confirm a working mod that meets the following:
1. N910S Exynos Korean version
2. Some kind of custom English only ROM that removes the Korean characters from keypad and other network-apps
3. Removed bloatware
4. Easy-to-follow, how-to guide
Seems there were quite a few ppl who wanted the same thing so I just want to let you know what I did to get it working.
*PLEASE NOTE* Everything contained in this summary was found through over a week of tedious reading, research, trial & error. BUT in the end all the necessary information was contained, or linked to, in xda forums. It's just that all the relevant information and files were scattered over many different threads and topics. I'm just collating it all here to hopefully make it easier for the next person to find.
Background info: I'm technically competent but relatively new to phone modding - I've only rooted my HTC E8 before this to remove bloatware. This is my second project. I live in HK and started with a completely stock OEM Note4 N910SKSU2DPK2 after a factory reset. I then did the steps below in order (not including many failed attempts and re-starts, of course) These are just the broadstrokes of what I did, if you need to know how to do each step in detail then please search the forum. It's quite clear and there's no need for me to repeat it here anyway
As it's my first post and I'm in a rush to leave the house soon, I have not bothered with screenshots or links - I'm happy to provide if someone can tell me if the preferred method is link to the thread where the info was found, or you just want a link to the files I used. Again, they were all found through links in threads on xda anyway but I'll have to spend some time to find them again as I didn't bookmark them. Also, if you want the files someone will have to tell me how to upload them here. The filenames/packages are given in [brackets] so maybe you can just search for them?
0. Reminder to backup your phone and data first!
1. Root - was really easy using CF AutoRoot [CF-Auto-Root-trelteskt-trelteskt-smn910s] Just download to your PC and package includes Odin, which for first-timers is the official Samsung software used to flash to your phone.
2. Download:
- ClockWorkMod [n910s-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1113).tar]
- SuperSU [SuperSU-v2.79-201612051815.zip]
- C Mod ROM [C_ROM_N910s.v2HNY.zip] (the site is Korean-based but google translate of the page was enough for a non-Korean like myself)
- N910S DPK2 modem file [N910S-20170114T050808Z.zip] The original thread had links to every modem variant they knew of, so should work with other S/L/K variants BUT of course I haven't tried them.
3. Copy files for SuperSU, CMod ROM, and DPK2 modem onto an external SD card and insert into your phone.
4. Put your phone into Download Mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Down + Home + Power)
5. Run Odin on your PC, connect phone. On Odin, click <AP> and select CWM file. Do not check or modify any other options. Click <Start> to flash CWM recovery to your phone.
6. Once it's done, disconnect from PC, and restart your phone into the new custom recovery mode (from power-off state, hold Vol Up + Home + Power)
7. Choose Install from zip and select the SuperSU file from your ext SD card. (I think this step may not be strictly necessary as it's part of CF AutoRoot, but SuperSU is always handy to have anyway)
8. Reboot into Recovery mode again (available in Advanced menu)
9. Install zip - now choose the CMod ROM file. Reboot into system and have a look around the new UI. It was at this stage that I noticed two things: my HK carrier SIM was not recognised, and as the ROM boasts some Note 5 features the Always On Display function would cause my Note 4 to not be able to wake up once the screen was turned off (manually or via time-out). I had to pull out the battery, restart phone, go straight into Settings -> Display and turn off the Always On Display functionality.
10. To fix the SIM card not recognised, reboot into Recovery Mode again and Install zip - choose the DPK2 modem file (or whichever version your phone's modem is). Restart phone, wait a few minutes and SIM should now work.
*ONE REMAINING ISSUE* Even tho my SIM is 4G/LTE, it seems to be connecting at HSUPA only. Could be reception, I'll check later. But I believe there's a way to select different LTE bands through secret codes or menu, not sure but I'll try that as well later and update if it works.
That's it - hope it helps! Thanks for reading, and don't forget I'm new to this AND a first time poster so be kind in comments/questions please

So by following steps in this thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/help/note-4-sm-n910s-sk-telecom-issues-t2929571/page2 for SKT, I was able to change to LTE Band 3 or 7 (which is what my sim provider offers) and get an LTE signal for data, BUT then I lose voice call functionality. If I choose Band 3 Preferred, it says band changed success, but just connects via HSUPA and I get voice, but no LTE (just like before, or if I choose Automatic)
Can anyone please help me figure this out? How can I get voice AND LTE? Many thanks in advance!
PS - also after I reflashed my modem.bin the baseband changed from N910SKSU2DPK2 to N910SKSU0DPK2. I don't know what this means nor if it has anything to do with the problem I've described above? Can anyone help to explain? Thanks...

Band 3 and 7 are supposed to stick with default settings. I tried it once during my trip to Malaysia and it worked flawlessly. Any chance you might want to contact your carrier?

Have you tried switching to 3g only, then switching it back to 4g when available in your phone setting??
I had similar issue with 4g and apparently, this strangely simple trick solved my problem.
Anyway, I tried to download the ROM from the Achonapp but took me ages and I couldn't flash it either. May I know where you got the ROM from?

Tried your suggestion but now it shows No Service
*update* actually I think your "trick" works... After switching to 3G only, it wouldn't switch back to 4G and showed No Service. I rebooted the phone with a different sim and after a few minutes, it automatically connected to 4G AND I now have voice as well! So, all is working properly now and I'm a happy camper. Reboot with the original sim and still works and connects to 4G. So I think you're right it just needed to be "forced" to select 4G preferred. Thanks for the tip!
Yeah I got it from achonapp as well and it took a while - I think I left it going overnight. But the ROM did work for me. If anyone wants the file direct I'm happy to put it up on my google drive if it's not against forum rules etc.
But since then I've switched to miui8 which is also working pretty much flawlessly as daily ROM, but I haven't tested every single little feature of course. If you wanna try it - https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=70596588&postcount=797

How to Full carrier unlock Verizon S8+ with Stock SM-g955u1 bloat free

DISCLAMER: I AM NOT A DEVOLPER AND MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HELP YOU ON YOU DEVICE. UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS TO FLASH FIRMWARE ON THIS DEVICE CAN AND WILL BRICK YOUR PHONE. BACK UP EVERYTHING IN EVRY CONCIEVABLE WAY.
After days of trying to do this with all the outdated guides and miscommunications and edits in post i decided to try and make a streamlined guide to help others.
NOTE: If your are looking for anything else other than a stock bloat free unlocked firmware then look elsewhere.
Also if you are using rev 1 booloader then this will ireversablly upgrade you to rev 2 bootloader not a real problem just a note
Download 3B's patched Odin 3.13 https://drive.google.com/file/d/17wH1YHcGsOCxbDGYDoy9VlnqO_Xi6IOm/view?usp=drivesdk
Download samfirm.exe
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XdboeTqk8pSZyJQVt-IHVHFfznJ9eOQk/view?usp=drivesdk
Thanks to @zxz0O0
If you can't find your own drivers don't do this
1. Extract B3 Odin
2. Extract and run samfirm.exe
3. Make sure auto is checked use SM-G955u1 as model number and XAA as country code then search. It should find you the absolute latest firmware
Hit download and choose file destination. This can take a while.
4. extract firmware.zip
5. Run 3B's Odin and add file to there respective locations. I.e. Ap file in Ap slot etc. Use the non home CDC
6. The only thing you need ticked in Odin are already set by default
7. Boot phone into download mode power+bixby+volume down while the device is off
8. Read the screen that pops up very carefully and decide to continue at you own risk by pressing volume up
9. Connect phone via USB 2.0 port do not use a USB 3.0 port it will not work
Make sure Odin recognizes device if it doesn't then u have a driver issue
10. Press start and wait patiently
11. Phone will reboot it self setup device and insert sim card. You will probably get a notification say phone not allowed a quick call to the service provider you trying to use is all that's in order here
12. Enjoy your carrier unlocked stock SM-G955u1 on your preferred network
I AM NOT RESPOSIBLE FOR ANYTHING YOU DO TO YOUR OWN DEVICE YOU WERE WARNED.
So this gets rid of all bloatware?
From my knowledge, Verizon does not, and has not ever carrier locked their phones. Seems like a lot of trouble just to debloat.. Am I missing something here?
Any idea why it stucks at "SetupConnection.."
This worked GREAT! My Verizon S8+was working fine on AT&T before I did this, but I was stuck on Android 7.0. So thank you so much for this. There's only one thing that bothers me is in my drop down menu there's a notification that says "Sprint OMADM Checking Device Status." Which really isn't a big deal, it's just annoying. Another thing I worry about is, i'm using it on a GSM network, is it actively searching for a CDMA network at the same time and draining my battery? Any input would be appreciated, and thank you again!

The method will be similar just need the proper firmwares for your device
This being quite an old post I was wondering ...
I am currently on G950USQS5CSB1 with CSC XAS/XAA/VZW.
Currently I have no carrier bloat (good), I am on Mint with no issues (good) and I get prompt OTA's I assume for carrier VZW but I lack wifi calling which I would like (bad).
I have downloaded G950U1UES5CSB2 for G950U1
Will this work using the 3B modded Odin as described without having to flash the combination files?
normal and Prince Comsy Odin both failed.
Thanks
edit: Took the dive .... worked great thanks, now on G950U1 and have wifi calling and VoLTE
This is great, minus one thing, it installed facebook on my phone, which I didn't have before and never wanted and it won't let me uninstall it..
I'm hoping you are still monitoring this old thread. I have a Verizon Galaxy S8 and followed your instructions exactly (except that I downloaded the files for SM-G950U1 (my current model is SM-G950U). When I start Odin, it gets stuck at "SetupConnection" and never goes any further. Thoughts?

Yea. I just switched to Verizon. You should be able to just pop your sim in and it automatically carrier switch. Most of these are multi carrier
But yea I don't know about the firmware program he's offering never used it I get mi e from sammobile.com or update.com

Yes, it has unlocked as it recognizes my sim card and carrier. But no signal. I think the problem is the device is with "MIPI device fail" status

Need access to hidden menus

Yea not yet. I'm also on 7. We need edl files first. I got the combination rom for the boot img but edl is still missing. I got a few guys looking for it. I typed in the error you gave me and saw a few sites with no box fixes. Normally if you can get to the menu I don't see root being needed. But I may ne wrong since I've never seen this error
This would be great if it worked. However I have my doubts. You would first need to have the phone be from Verizon or be on another carrier and *unlocked* first before changing any CSC using the US OPEN firmware which allows you to simply put a sim card in and switch carriers by swapping sims and letting Samsung reconfigure the phone. The BEST setup is a SPRINT phone.. unlocked.. then converting to U / U1 firmware. You then have every possibility when it comes to carriers sitting at your finger tips!
Good Luck

Your post dont even make sense. The Verizon s8 at the time came sim unlocked. All you had to do was swap the csc. But worked unlocked out of the box. Why would a sprint device be the best setup. All the us s8s are identical. Sounds like you come from LG which is true on devices and versatility. Not Samsung.
