Anyone else had an issue with this? No disclaimer on first run of Market and no paid apps show up.
Anyone found a work around yet? Tried changing fingerprint in build.prop but no dice.

that was not apparent from your first post (at least not to me)
sounds like your rom is available? if so, why not clarify this q in your rom thread?

I'd say it was dev related, and it seems to be affecting multiple roms, so this would be a perfectly valid place to ask this question.

very good, thx for the additional info
thread stays where it is then, gl solving the prob

It doesn't look like a new issue, first hit on Google for "missing apps in market".
It appears to be affected by the country you're browsing from. I have a user in the UK who can see things like Pure Calendar and Abduction World Attack just fine, however a user outside the UK cannot see them.
This appears to be new with the WWE OTA update, as the Taiwan based ROMs appear fine for the most part.
That said, we had a user on our Superhero build that downloaded and installed a paid app, he switched to VR11.9 and couldn't see it anymore. It remained missing after a downgrade back to Superhero.
What the hell Google..
I asked this question in the VR 11.9.1 thread as well, but moved it here as itr seemed more like the right place.
Can you try searching the market for aldiko, there should be 2 version, paid and unpaid?
The paid one is also protected (installs to/data/app-private) and that is the one that doesn't show.
I'm seeing other paid apps in the market, but not paid/protected ones. e,g, Extended Controls is paid but not protected and I see that just fine.
Aldiko paid version doesnt show up
No, it would appear that normal paid apps are showing up, however protected apps are not.
I scanned the QR code for Aldiko Premium (protected) as a test (here) and it cannot be found in the market.
Looks like it's not just us having the problem.

The one that went:
RUU 2.73.405.5 ->
OTA 2.73.405.93 ->
OTA 3.32.405.1_R2
Oh, and by the way, I did have the disclaimer when starting the market for the first time, so I don't think that is connected to this issue.

ditto. note: I'm in canada, in case that's relevant, using the new euro rom.
Its a joke as I paid $29.99 for Slingplayer last week and with the WWE update I cannot view it from here in the UK.
Had to ditch the WWE rom for now.
google's looking into it now:

Seems like it's fixed now!
OK, I did search for this before I posted so I hope I don't get anybody mad for starting a new thread if this has been covered.
Regarding security threats and android phones. I did see the thread about a malware program out of Russia affecting android phones (installed via a movie program?). But in general, security issues do not seem to be a big issue.
The other threads I've found seem to have conflicting opinions.
So my question(s) is, how much do you all worry about security issues? Does anybody use Lookout (free mobile security app)? I did see that it has high ratings on the market, but I put more stock in what this community has for opinions than the market users.
Again, if this has been covered to death and I missed it, I apologize.
I do have concerns over security and therefore really don't install many apps. Since I have had an android phone, my gmail account has been compromised once, allowing spam to be sent from my gmail account and also spam to be placed on my Blogger site. While I cannot be certain it was something on my phone that allowed this, I rarely use my computer to access any of my Google apps. I also had never had issues with any email or other accounts being compromised for as long as I've had a computer. I also rarely get spam. So while I can't be certain, the fact it showed my account being logged into by a mobile device in Malaysia makes me very suspicious.

Thanks for the reply. I take it you haven't used Lookout or any of the other security apps?
Lookout looks legit, but I am a little skeptical. Guess I'll wait and see if I get any other responses before I do anything with it.
I haven't tried it in the past, as I'm skeptical too. I went ahead and installed it though after my post just to see. It is now being installed by some of the carriers by default apparently and I guess has won some awards, so hopefully it's been poked at a bit by people to where it itself isn't a large threat. Figure if it doesn't impact performance a lot there can't be any harm in trying it. Now, as for how effective it really is, I'd imagine that's something many people will never know.
Sent from my HERO200 using XDA App
Again, thanks for your input.
Performance impact is basically what I was worried about. I actually installed it the other day but when I realized it was on ALL the time, I uninstalled it before really giving it a chance.
I guess it's worth a shot. I'll install it again tonight and run a couple before and after quadrant benchmarks to see how much of an impact.
If I don't get anybody else posting here, I'll still post my experience in a couple/few days, so if you're interested, check back later in the week.
Thanks dpeeps, have a good one.

Not paranoid .... just cautious.
There is so much good information on this site that when I search for something that sounds too good (for free), and I can't find anything, yes, I'm going to "err on the side of caution".

you are welcome. i use it mostly for the lost feature. if i lose it i can activate the gps and locate it that way, and i can also make it scream (caution this is really loud, and the only way to stop it is a battery pull) if it is somewhere close to me. it is very effective.
EDIT: they changed the scream feature, now it will scream for 1 minute and you can stop it by turning the volume down on the phone.
Where is it for Nexus 7 2013? Will it be in the factory build? Is it going to be available for download separately from the store?
I find it odd that with all of the push to eliminate fragmentation it's not included.

Google Experience Launcher was intended to be Nexus 5 specific. It will not be included in official Nexus 7 images.

Who cares what google search comes back with? Guessing/speculation/your mom talking about cats. The reason I posted here is because people who tend to know what they're doing come to xda for news/know-how.
Is the missing launcher really a bi-product of optimization and the always listening feature? Or is the GEL launcher going to be available on the store? Maybe you don't know but that doesn't mean that a developer or somebody else doesn't know.

Yeah. God forbid you should do a little research on your own. That's why everyone comes here, to spoon feed you information so you don't have to look it up yourself.
BTW: It was bing search. I thought it was quite witty to use bing to search for information about Google. I guess I'm not as funny as I thought I was.

Despite the reputation that xda has for people who know what they're talking about there's still you. Research would imply that there is information elsewhere that:
A. I care about.
B. exists.
4.4 for Nexus 7 2013 is a few hours old. I already said I don't care about speculation. Stop being an ass. The first thing I did was google this and when nothing was found I started a post. Did you do any research before you posted that link? Read the first four pages of results. Read the first 100 pages of results. There's no links to statements from google or any developer anywhere that has looked into anything. Instead there's a bunch of people who all regurgitate information, whether cited or not from The Verge, who also don't cite a source. They just say vaguely that Google told them. Right... because Google talks to The Verge and The Verge exclusively.
Let me change the question for you. Don't answer it. It's clear you're just a moron. This is for somebody else.
Is there really a hardware reason to exclude the Google Experience Launcher? Does anybody know if GEL really uses anything from the 800 or is Google just running a trial on the N5 users?
In addition, has anybody seen whether or not somebody has tried to take the apk from a Nexus 5 and run it on a Nexus 7?

So you're a moron and a liar? There's no statement from Google about it or you would have posted it. There's no information about whether or not the speculated functionality of the snapdragon 800 is really required for GEL's always listening either. You didn't find anything in Google (or Bing. I thought you were just being stupid).

Those first builds of 4.4 that came around when the Nexus 5 was launched actually had the whole GEL. the only problem was the keyboard would pop up when you went back to the homescreen, but other than that, it was working fine, so the only reason I can see as to why they would have left it out of the tablet would be to give the Nexus 5 some more bullet points on its feature list than other products out there.

Interesting. So... chances are we'll have a unofficial version floating around in no-time. Did you have any hands on with those first builds? Did the always on functionality seem to impact battery life adversely? Thanks in advance!

I didn't take any time to tear into the build and tinker with it, but if there was any battery impact, it was too small to notice. I was still getting days of use. Even though the keyboard thing wasn't fixed in that build, maybe now that official builds are out and about, it can be fixed and sideloaded. I mean, all it was was a install of Google Play Services, the Launcher and the latest Google Search. Hopefully it won't be too hard to package those up and have them working soon.

There's already unofficial builds running around. I'm running it on my N7 with 4.4 right now. Still has the keyboard bug though.
All I had to do was install the launcher APK from Android Police and boom, GEL.

As far as aesthetics go, no, changing the color of the notification bar text and icons wasn't enough. At all. Considering we didn't get the transparent notification bar or the new app drawer icon. I'm getting my fix of those two with Nova Beta though. Gets me all of those things, plus it's pretty stable.

Yeah I was more being sarcastic. Even though I was more looking forward to just having a bit more stability in everything I use the tablet for, I can't say I wasn't a little bit disappointed not having a very obvious "New Update Day!" feature to have fun with. And if Action Launcher wasn't the most overpowered launcher out there, I might use Nova. I just can't get over that Quick Panel. its too useful

As the title states I setup brevent on my phone I was able to remove the lockscreen ads by 'breventing' the "Amazon Offers" system app.
One should also note the brevent takes some effort to start (needs a computer) but it stays on as long as you don't restart your phone.
Instructions:
You will have to go to settings and enable "show all apps"
Lock your phone, swipe away the ad, and voilia. no more ads.
There is a possibility that it may suck your battery... or it may improve it... I'll follow up after a few days
It is a shame that people update their phones before checking to see if they should or not. If you want to root or flash a phone, NEVER update it before researching what the updates do.

Yea but mistakes happen at times. I bought my blu to be a temp phone until the OnePlus 5 came out... Didn't expect the ads to be so annoying...

Good news, the battery life is about the same. And maybe it's just my imagination but the phone seems slightly snappier.
For those of us who messed up and updated. This seems like the best option this far.
PS. If it works for you, you should probably donate to the developers of brevent (I am in no way affiliated to them but this has been a lifesaver for me)

Could someone who's running Android Pie on a PH-1 please try the KenKen Classic II app from the Play Store to see if it works properly?
It crashes every single time I launch the app and press "Play". I'm trying to pinpoint the problem. The devs say they haven't had any other reports like this from Android P users.
Thank you.
Mind if I bump this post? I'm going through KenKen withdrawal and am hoping that if some others are having the same problem, the KenKen devs can sort it out. Right now they same I'm the only user who's reported the problem, but since Android Pie isn't available on many models of phone, maybe the field is limited.
