I am seeing conflicting reports on flashing stock Roms from different regions. Basically I have the N9005 and I want to get the latest updates as soon as they arrive.
So is it safe to flash a rom from another region considering I turn off the activation lock before proceeding? Do I need to worry about my EFS being wiped/cleared? If my phone is region unlocked is it possible to get locked if I flash a rom from another region?
Which is the best rom to flash right now? The UK unbranded BTU one?
Thanks.

Just go to Sammobile and download uk btu and your be safe
yeah your phone will most likely get region locked if you flash a different regions firmware..but you can easily use CFs regionlock away app to fix that... as for efs getting borked, there is a high chance, seen users with both note 2 and s4 that have that issue so i would recommend backing up your efs...

Hi All
Just had an upgrade to the Note 3. It was originally locked to 3 mobile but I have unlocked to use on O2. I'd like to get rid of the 3 mobile splash screen etc.
I've read through a few of the posts on here and I'm unsure as to how to go about doing the flash. I'm confused over the Knox thing. I am only wanting to flash the firmware not root.
Please can someone point me in the right direction......?
from what i have heard and what ppl have tried you will need to flash the SAME regions firmware as the one that came with your phone by default.. BTU has the region code "XX", so you will have to check to see your region code.. go to about phone and check it will something like this, "ZHUDMJ1 or XXUBMJ1".. the first 2 letter are the region code "ZH" and "XX" are just examples, your region code maybe different than those 2.. you can flash a different countries firmware if it has the same region code as yours

thank u for lighting me up about what firmware we need to flash to our note 3...
just want to ask if it's possible to flash this new firmware e.g XXUBMJ6
over to my rooted note 3 XXUBMJ1 and how?..help much appreciated
Anyone?
When I flashed one of the original Knox safe rooted firmwares, it inadvertently changed my CSC.
I have managed to get it back to what it should be, but the key is to use the same version as the one currently on the phone.
At the time it was MJ1 that was installed on my phone, and it was only variants of that version I used to get back to normal. The problem is when someone tries to downgrade. It wasn't really an exact science to getting it back to BTU either. More of a trial and error thing. I flashed, BTU firmware, wiped, opened recovery to check the CSC status, it still showed the wrong one, flashed again, loaded the phone up into the setup (as the phone gets wiped when changing CSC) was still bringing a foreign setup process, wiped and flashed again checked recovery and eventually it ended up where it should be.
So I think you should be able to debrand and the CSC with it to get official updates. But since they released the Note 3, flashing has become greater risk.

hi, my note on three uk, and i wanted 3 splash screen gone so just flashed via odin BTU latest firmware n9005xxudmj6, and knox all good, no worries.
My phone currently runs 4.3 but I'm thinking about upgrading to 4.4.2. My phone's localization is SEB. However SEB version of the rom is not released yet. As a result, I'm thinking of upgrading my ROM using BTU or some other version. This raised some questions for me:
1. If I flash 4.4.2 from BTU (or some other version of it) could I use LTE not only in UK but in the baltic states. In other words, if the ROM belongs to other country could I still use LTE at home? Or will LTE work only in the country the ROM is built for?
2. If I flash 4.4.2 using Odin (from BTU), would I still get OTA updates? I've heard that both region and software region must match to get OTA. Is this true?
3. Should I recalibrate my battery after flashing 4.4.2? I've heard that after flashing every new ROM battery should be recalibrated in order to reach the best performance.
4. Which of the ROMs (BTU, XEF etc) has the least amount of bloat?
Thanks in advance.

You can flash any country ROM supporting LTE.
You can use LTE anywhere if your ROM supports LTE.
It's wrong that both region must match, COMPLETELY WRONG.
You can find an Ultimate-List of firmwares in sammobile.com in firmwares section.
Hey guys.
Got an N9005 and just getting really impatient waiting for the Australian XSA rom to be released. It's so close I'm sure but, was wondering if I could perhaps flash a Poland firmware for now then flash an Australian one when it's released with no problems?
In my knowledge, a few years of flashing roms etc, it seems this would update everything including my bootloader, which is fine. Heard also that you cannot go back to any previous version of android after this procedure. Which I find weird, as what if I flashed a 4.3 firmware, wouldn't this revert everything back? Including bootloader?
Anyway, not that I'd want to go back, that was more just to see what the final say was.
Moving on, so I should be able to flash a Poland room for example then update to Australian? As they are official firmware, I shouldn't trip Knox either?
Thanks heaps in advance guys.
Anyone??
Thanks!!

You can flash the Poland firmware while you wait. Almost everybody ran Poland Kitkat when it was first released.
The updated bootloader prevent from downgrading. If you try to do it via odin, the update will fail.
Official firmwares from any region will not trip KNOX.

AFAIK Optus Note 3 is N9007, not N9005. So may be this is your problem?

Ohh sorry, I mean there is a separate model for Optus operator.
In fact there is N9005 that has CSC code is OPS for Optus, and there is N9007 specific for Optus.
May be you have the 1st one.
You can get your Model and CSC code by using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app.
Hey all!
Is it possible to downgrade from a newer (NE3) firmware to an older (ND3) through Odin or it will brick my phone because of the bootloader?
The only things I know are that 1) Downgrade from 4.4.2 to 4.3 is not possible 2) It's possibile to install a custom older rom on new bootloader and vice versa BUT I don't know if it's possible with stock roms with Odin.
I looked for a solution but nothing found and no one answered me so I opened this thread to find out a solution.
Thanks in advance.
UP still interested because NE4 + custom kernel gives problems that others doesn't have

I never actually tried going back to an older version but I really don't see why you shouldn't. As long as it's KitKat 4.4.2 just try it should work. I downgraded my Modem and haven't had any issue.
With the Bootloader worry...did you even change the bootloader? As well as the Modem you have to do that separate to the Rom, as flashing a Rom doesn't touch Modem an Bootloader!!! If you don't know how to do that please just leave it alone though unless you read, read, read a lot on how to do that.

Thanks for the reply, every time I install a new rom I make sure to update the bootloader and modem too, and from what I can read from the Synapse app I have the NE3 modem and NE4 bootloader.
I'm asking how to go back to older roms because going from 4.4.2 to 4.3 updating the bootloader with Odin you obtain only a fancy paper weight, and I didn't know if going from newer to older 4.4.2 bootloader it was the same story.

I'm pretty sure there won't be an issue mate since I flash between custom roms almost daily which are most of the time different models. If you want to be 100% sure wait for someone to confirm as I'm rooted since I got the chance to do so.
Thanks to the developer Civato I read on his FlexKat thread he correctly downgraded his bootloader from NE6 to ND6 with Odin...
So problem solved, this is definitely possible.
Thank you everyone for your replies :good:
Downgrading bootloaders on the same version generally tends to work OK, mainly because on 4.3 Samsung patched the security flaw which stopped you going <MJ7
Kith Kitkat I never had any issues flipping back and forth.--- Until it's a BL upgrade with OS Number change (IE: 4.4.3 if it has new BL) then it shouldn't work.
hi. sorry, this is probably an old thread but I need some help, please and somehow,Google got me here. I want to downgrade (not really downgrade) my N9005 to 4.4.2.
I currently have a custom ROM(resurrection remix v5.6.9,in settings it says that I have android 6.0.1 marshmallow). Also,I have a custom recovery(TWRP). Well,I would like to install the KitKat stock ROM and really did a lot of research but I cannot find it anywhere :'( . Do you know any source? And also, can I flash it with mobile ODIN? When I opened Mobile Odin Pro it said that if I don't have the boot loader for the ROM I want to install then I will experience a soft brick. Isn't TWRP a good boot loader?
Also, does it matter what version of N9005 I own? mine is: XXUGBOJ1. Could I flash smth that is not for this ..base band is it called?...
pls help
I'm such a newbie and I don't wanna mess up

Get a 4.4.2 fw and flash with windows odin. Not really familiar with mobile odin. Find fw for you country csc. Flashing other csc fw sometimes requires pit file so better get the 1 for your country or originally came with the phone.

I bought my mobile from UAE and am using it in india. When i compare my s10 plus with s10 indian variant , s10 front camera quality far beter than my s10 plus.so i m planning to flash indian region os using odin and have some doubt on this. Please some one clear my doubts
1. Will knox service get tripped, if i flash indian os using odin.?
2. Is this issue occurs due to different region os or hardware fault
3. If knox gets tripped, will it be fixed later ?
Thanks

Yes you will get OTA after flashing a stock firmware using Odin
Use the main CSC file (not the HOME-CSC) if changing region
I always enable OEM Unlock in developer options before attempting to change CSC with Odin (disable OEM Unlock again after you have completed flash to enable full security)
You can only flash a firmware file that matches your model Variant
E.g. you cannot flash 975F firmware to an 975U model etc
Finally be aware your phone will be wiped after the flash completes so backup everything before you start. Good luck
Thanks a lot for your reply. And i am not get your points about CSC...can you please explain little more

Firmware for Odin flash contains 2 CSC files. The HOME_CSC file will NOT erase your device, the CSC one will. However as you are changing CSC code it is best to use the normal CSC file and allow your device data to be erased as it’s not a good idea to mix data and settings between different firmware
Hope this helps and good luck
Thanks for your reply
