Hi guys
I was just about to post it in cyanogen mod thread (I tried both stable and nightlies release) but I tried paranoid android and I even flashed different cameras versions but always end up with same issue so for me its not really rom related. When i set resolution to 13mpix or 9mpix preview in viewfinder seems all fine and cover whole screen, but after taking a picture I end up with 4:3 ratio picture, when I go down to 6mpix pictures are taken in 16:9 but viewfinder cover only around 75% of picture. In 6mpix preview is really inaccurate, is stretched and look bad. I did my best with explaining now pictures and screenshots:
tinyurl.com/ncxjx3b
All pictures were taken from same place.
Is there any way to either have 13/9mpix pictures autocropped to 16:9 (as far as i know stock samsung firmware do exactly this) or just fix preview on 6mpix mode so it cover actual area?

I am not sure if you are using a 100% stock rom, same rom which came with your phone.
If you are not, and you are using any of the custom roms, especially those roms which
are not based on the i9505 Samsung Touchwiz Jellybean 4.2.2 firmware I would first
do a nandroid backup in recovery.
Then I would download the proper model of the Odin flash rom which is the same model #
as came with your phone then I would flash Odin flash the stock rom.
I have a hunch that you are NOT currently using the STOCK rom which came with your phone.
But Odin flashing the stock rom is really the only way to tell if you have a software/rom issue
or it's a hardware issue in which case you can exchange it if your phone is still under warranty.
Good luck with it!
I'm not using stock Rom but at the same time I don't want to. I rooted and flashed my s4 because I wanted to get rid off Samsung interface as I prefer nexus like experience.
I'm not quite sure what's your advice. Are you trying to tell me that I supposed to go back to stock room? Is there a workaround for this as I DON'T want Samsung Rom back.
Thanks for reply anyway

Does having a custom non-Touchwiz ROM change the camera performance? Like Cyanogen mod or AOKP, I'm not entirely sure what a ROM changes. Would the quality of the other modes change (HDR, HDR video, etc)?
We'll never have sammy camera on aosp/cm. You need tw framework for it to run. Thats the only downside of aosp/cm. But honestly im on rooted stock and im loving everything about this phone. Ive ran aosp/cm on all my phones and hated touchwiz. The s4 has definately made me content for now.
ATT S4 Rooted. Beastin.

I understand that the Samsung camera application cannot be ported over, but is the performance of the camera still the same? Basically do pictures taken still look like the same quality? My other major question is what modes are available? Other than just normal is there HDR, night, etc.

I flashed CM 10.1 about 1 hour ago, shortly before deleting my only System files on it (DOH!). Anyway, I noticed the camera wasn't good at all in CM 10.1. I dont know if its just the way it looks, I didnt take a single picture, but I didnt like it and its one of the reasons im going back to stock.
Do you know if the camera quality will get better?
Just install a different camera app from the Play Store. I use Fotor and it takes excellent pics.

i have yet to be able to take a picture in non natural light that is not blurry. I am on MF3 and if i use LINE Camera App i get crystal clear pictures but it is missing some options like 16:9 mode or automatic backup etc.
So people who have had the issues with stock 4.2.2 how is 4.3 camera working for you?

Might look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2498897
Hello,
it might be asked a lot of times, but I, personally, cant find any info on how to improve Samsung Galaxy S4's camera.
I updated my S4 from 4.2.2 to 4.3 (and regret it deeply) and found that fantastic picture quality from 4.2.2 version is poor at best with 4.3.
I tried to change ISO, picture quality to 13 and then to 9.6 MP, update camera firmware but the picture quality is still poor.
I would like to go back to 4.2.2 version but because of KNOX Warranty I'm a bit scared (still have 1.5 years of varranty).
So I would like you to ask you all for help - is it possible to get picture quality to 4.2.2 version's or maybe somehow get 4.2.2 version's camera app. I don't know, my knowledge is very limited when it comes to Android stuff.
Hope you can help me.
Sincerely,
a new member
U cant come back to 4.2.2 without void the warranty
What do you mean by poor quality? I'm on 4.3 and i've realised a lot of my pics are blurry, i just assumed i've not been holding the camera still when taking pictures but it's happening quite often. When i think about it, i don't remember it happening when i first got the phone.
edit: Here's a good example of a recent pic that has come out partially blurry, this doesn't happen on every photo and it's rarely blurry across the whole thing, notice how the image is much sharper near the bottom, and how bad it looks towards the top. I'm sure this is a software problem.

Would different camera software solve this problem (or at least help me troubleshoot?) or is this something that needs to be fixed with an updated kernel?
Hello guys, I have installed a CM12 nightly build into my Galaxy Note 3 [hlte] and everything is fine.
But I was wondering, is it possible to bring back some of the original apps (like the Camera or S Note) which i had with the original Samsung firmware?
Thanks

It would be nice - I think a lot of us CM users would like the Sammy camera back. But unless there's a Dev out there who wants to spend a lot of time, you either have those apps or a really slick phone.
hi may i ask what are the bugs in cm12 that youre using? i wanna flash it too but m afraid of major bugs. and no you cant have TW firmware ori apps on CM.

Actually I haven't discovered any bugs yet. Everything seems working fine, wifi, bluetooth, wifi hotspot, 3G, sd card...
how about the pictures taken by the camera quality? volume sounds low?

Pics seem fine although some have lamented the 'night mode' lack. All resolutions available.
Sound seems pretty normal but I use Viper4 anyway - the missus gets upset if I go to the pub and don't hear her messages arrive. So I use Viper to boost the sound. Can't have SWMBO getting mad...

Pictures are the same as with the original firmware, volume is high.

I'm a little curious as to what you expect to learn from a pic? It's not going to tell you much unless you know precisely the conditions it was taken in and how good the photographer actually is.
e.g. attached is one of mine, but what does it tell you about the actual camera app? Temasek's CM12.1
Thanks for doing that for me. Basically from my previous device a note 2 running on cm the image quality of the picture after you snap it its still just not the quality you sèe on the stock firmware. no matter how you took it low lights or bright under the sun you will still able to see it blurry. Me i use my note 3 camera quite frequently so i need the images to be as clear as what the stock gives. Hope you get what i mean haha

Yes... in that pic I tapped on the label as I am selling the pump and wanted that part clear as possible. I've found any blurriness is me, not the phone. I wouldn't mind a cam app that lets me change ISO and as well as shutter time though...
I think one issue with any cam app is the shutter sound doesn't match WHEN it takes the snap, so to get clear shots we have to hold for longer than the actual shot time... or use burst shot and pick the best image.
I know this is an old topic, but i just re-flashed KitKat .ftf file today (C6903_14.6.A.0.368_TW.ftf, because i lost root along the custom ROM-flashing madness ), and i noticed that the Camera on the KitKat firmware is so much smoother and faster than on stock Lollipop, and so much much better the custom 6.0 ROMs for that matter (albeit they suffer from a known Camera problem). Now that i'm flashing back to stock 5.1.1, does anyone know how to optimize the camera app? It just seems a little unfair that the camera on 4.4.4 gives you such a better experience than the one on 5.1.1.
P.S: I have unlocked the bootloader, but the Kitkat Camera app is unaffected.
Lollipop is better
yeah, it would seem LP camera works better in lowlight. i'm trying the Camera app on Kryptonian ROM, which is ported from Xperia X, btw.
I will try to make this quick and clear: Since the battery change for my Z1 the rear glass didnt get well glued, so the flash light interfere with the camera, the pictures taken with flash were very ugly, so every picture i take, i make it without flash, and i dont know how neither why but the camera takes light from nowhere and it gives to me very clear pictures, like if you have a lightbulb in front, i have very clear pictures, i must say that i am using a custom rom (mx rom 8.5)

I had this problem too and I removed the back glass, I washed the camera and the glass and then I glued it with glass glue. Now it is perfect
Kitkat camera viewfinder is much smoother than Lollipop. I didn't notice any other difference but that was the most obvious one. Thankfully there's a nice mod here that makes the viewfinder crazy fast again in Lollipop so there. Anyway, I cleaned up my lens with a small amount of toothpaste, and everything went better, shots were more clear, no more blurs, etc.
MX ROM camera vs Snapchat camera. There are a huge difference

In my case, only when i am in a very low light condition, but when the light is good, the pictures taken are not the best but they are good
