why do some people need a partition file in odin ?

Been doing a bit of reading on here and some people seem to need a pit file when flashing stock ROM with odin as they get the message "no pit file" how do they end up with a missing pit file?
I believe pit files tells Odin how to divide the partitions for formatting and where certain components go when flashing them individually. I'll assume the reason people get the no pit file error is because Odin doesn't detect the pit file and isn't sure how to correctly flash the ROM. I could be completely wrong, but I thinks that's the general idea behind them. Some ROM's come with the pit file integrated I think, and some come separately.

Are they doing something which makes odin not detect this pit file such as custom recoveries etc
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
I'm not sure mate honestly. I know the basics of a pit file and that's it. I've never used one and don't plan to.

Where did you get the file from? Is it a tar file or an tar.md5 file? Also, why do you have to flash it again?

Its a home.tar file
I used djembey root method a while ago but this uses a old unlocked kernel. Need the new kernel on MDM as it gets rid of red tint going to use chainfires auto root on it hopefully
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
Yeah you can root MDM no bother now with the updated CF-Auto-Root which is what I'm on. I'll have to root the device soon, get a custom recovery and backup the device along with the EFS folder.

Bump I need to either revive my attempted root I'd possible???

xxudmh8 is using a new locked bootloader for KNOX implementation. Have you use the latest CF-autoroot by Chainfire?
If the SuperSU version is not v1.60 or higher then you may need to reroot your phone using the latest CF autoroot:
http://download.chainfire.eu/316/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.zip
Latest version of SuperSU is v1.65, probably you can try to update from Google Play or download the flashable zip file from:
http://download.chainfire.eu/351/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.65.zip
If I download and reflash xxudmh8 via odin from sammobile will it remove my root?

You may reflash XXUDMH8 via odin, after that root will be removed. You can root again using latest CF-Autoroot.
Do full factory reset before and after flashing to avoid unexpected problem.
If I root can I then go back to previous firmware or does the new one stop you from doing this??

I'm just going to reply to tell you to stop bumping your thread after such miserable amounts of time. I hope you got excited that there was a reply, and I also hope that you were bitterly disappointed. This isn't a 'fix ma problem' board, and the least you can do is wait it out for a reply. :banghead:

Jeez......have u tried to reinstall the drivers on ur computer? Are u opening Odin with admin privileges? I would start over from scratch and re download the tar file and go back to stock and try to Odin cf auto root and then install goo manager and install the custom recovery. I hope u get it worked out.

At my wits end trying to root

Here's the deal.
I can't get 7 zip to extract the file, the Root Vega file. When I do import the file into Odin and hit start, it does nothing. I have been messing with this for about 8 hours now.
If you have Team Viewer, and wanna do this, it will be worth a nice donation, so let's do this people PM me if your game
Need me info. Are you rooting MI9 or MJ7? Have you installed the USB drivers? Disabled anti-virus software?

none
I have MJ7, I have installed Samsung drivers, and disabled firewall

I have disabled anti virus, loaded Samsung drivers, and I have MJ7

Root De La Vega does not work on MJ7. Google "kingo root" to get rooted.
KingoApp will work. Beans has stated that the worry about the app was over hyped. Google for it as I am not sure we are allowed to link it.

Can't update and not rooted

So I am on mj7 and I want to update to mje but every time I try I get a error in Stock recovery

Plug it into a computer and there will be a program that tries to install "Verizon Software Update Assistant" or something like that. Install the program and you will be able to update to the new baseband, MJE. Make sure your device is not rooted and there is no custom recovery. (safestrap) Updating through this process can take up to 45 mins so just be cool and let it do its thing.

I'd back-up your data, then flash the .tar file in this post via Odin 3.09:

No OTA needed. I went from J7 straight to JE
OK thx
