[Q] Is the CSC related to network lock? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
I have a Galaxy S4 LTE, which I suppose is unlocked, as if I enter the service mode,at the network lock it says sha256_enable_flag 0. So, according to kies, I need the TMH based firmware, which is on T-Mobile. But I am on Vodafone, so I would need the VDH or XEH (Hungary). If I flash back the TMH csc based firmware, will I lose my unlock? Or if I flash back the vodafone based, will I still get ota updates?
Thanks for anyone who is willing to help!

Can't be totally sure. But I did re flash a different CSC and my phone got blocked. Had to go back to original CSC

yeah, but you can change to the new csc if you do a factory reset in the recovery. So, according to you, if i flash back the original csc, I will keep my unlock? By the way, it was a hungarian based csc and now i have a german based.

Yes, I have CSC from TTT and I flashed one from Uruguay that even came branded. Do it with Odin, no need for factory reset. The data does not gets deleted. Just backup in case

Mine says it does not matter. But go ahead and try your method. It should work as well

well, hope i'll keep my unlock...

CSC is only for customization. There is no unlock or lock key inside.

thank you!
and what about the new knox feature?

Knox has nothing to do with network lock.

Thanks all!

Hi guys. Currently I am using custom rom based on ne4 Singapore firmware but the csc is btu which is UK version. My issue is that I can't setup the roaming under the more network. My question is, by changing to Asian csc, will I be able to view the roaming setting option? Kindly refer to the attached pic. Thanks if anyone can answer me.

You need to download the BTU ROM from http://www.hotfile.com/dl/209462137/82c78b1/I9505XXUAMDM_I9505OXXAMDB_BTU.zip.html
And flash it with Odin

It includes a new CSC so it should change as well. Its the lastest ROM ATM so installing over what you have now should be straightforward. No resets etc required

Do you have the Stock UK Info, like the o2uk info below:

Mine is now set to btu, I rebooted again after reloading from the factory reset and it changed in recovery. Kies now sees it as an upgradable firmware and im running the latest rom, which feels smoother. No problems so far

So just to confirm
You loaded the firmware via odin
Factory reset
Reboot and your good to go on btu ?
Is that about it ? No rooting etc
Ii want rid of 3 firmware but don't want to void my warranty on case ... I presume if it's official firmware there is no issue
I always bought unlocked handsets and this is my first carrier handset for years

Yes mate. That's all I did. AFAIK it doesn't void your warranty unless you root/use custom rom. I'm not sure if Samsung would even know if it was originally branded.
I'm waiting for chainfire to get back from his hols, once he's got Cf auto root sorted on MDM ROM I'll prob root then.
I only got mine from 3 as they were cheapest for sim free in stock. I refused to pay the 599 Argos and phones 4 u wanted. I had hoped they were still sending unbranded + unlocked but never mind.

installing a Firmware of a different CSC??

Hello there. .
1-Can I flash a firmware from a different region than mine??
2-will I then be able to receive OTA updates?
3- will that change my CSC code?
Many thanks

I was on 3 uk firmware
I flashed btu which is uk unlock firmware using Odin
The csc then mis matched as firmware btu but csc three uk
Did a complete reset to put phone back to factory
Switched off handset
Then entered recovery which power home and volume up
Then did a reboot from the recovery menu
Btu csc then wrote to the phone
Now have unbranded btu handset which allows official updates via ota or kies
Only issue now is three uk had released ME2 before unbranded BTU ! But not going back as u have unlocked my handset also so have completely unbranded unlocked handset

Does flashing an official rom from another region trip the knox counter?

Just looking for if this is true or not? There seems to be conflicting info in the general thread about this. Basically does flashing an official rom from sammobile trip the knox counter?
I know in the past with samsung devices I had, the flash counter would never increase as long the rom was official even if it was from another region.
Just interested in flashing an unbranded UK rom to my 9005 so that's why I'm asking.
Thanks for the help.

If you want to debrand this should be alright as long as you use a rom from the same region / country.
So if you have an uk branded phone, you should flash stock unbranded uk and this shouldnt trigger knox.
Not sure about region differences, but that could trigger knox.
But all this updates the bootloader - I'm still trying to find out what the real consequences are.

It's actually a Malaysian phone so I would be switching over to another region with the UK rom. I just know with my galaxy tab 2 you could flash roms from where ever and it wouldn't trip the counter as long as it was official. So it looks like this isn't the case anymore?
I had Australian TEL and flashed UK BTU and it didn't trip. Just make sure you factory reset after flashing to get the CSC to change.

Ok that's good to know. The only other thing then is what is everyone talking about how the boot loader apparently changes when you flash a different rom?
Just make sure you flash a recent firmware. Apparently there were some phones that shipped without a secure boatloader. If you flash one of these over a secured one it will trip the flash. Basically if you a recent firmware you should be fine.

Q: Change CSC on n9005 NA6

Hi everyone,
I have searched through the forum and did not find any way how to change CSC on 4.4.2. I am currently rooted on NA6 firmware and NA2 baseband. My current CSC is XSI (United Arab Emirates)
My unlimate purpose is to change CSC to Poland, unroot and get timely updates.

Tried many times. Nothing happens. CSC Changer from play store doesn't work as well - it just freezes on "change CSC" button.

So, after flashing stock roms and rooting and I have finally managed to change CSC to BTU using "CSC Select".
But stock NA6 still tells "The latest updates have already been installed". Kies also says that this is the latest firmware.
Any ideas how to officially get update to NB7? According to http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N9005 NB7 is already rolled out for BTU region.
Thanks!

Flash the latest UK rom, after it boots pull the battery and wait 20 seconds, then boot into recovery and do a data factory reset and wipe cache and reboot. You should not have a bootloop this way.

BTU, and also KSA, is just a CSC code and may have no meaning, it's just a memorizable code, like e.g. airport code or country code etc...
BTU is region code for UK, KSA is for Saudi Arabia... You can look up for CSC code using Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app > Menu > 'CSC Lookup' tool.
You can also use 'Firmware Browser' tool in that app to find the BTU stock firmware, just open the menu > 'Firmware Browser', enter BTU in the CSC textbox and tap Go button.
