I just got my phone, when I opened it I noticed that the first language option that was given to me was spanish (or maybe portugese not really sure) anyway, that got me curious, did my phone come originally from south america or somewhere in the iberian peninsula?
I was sure about this when I opened the browser and saw this locked bookmark from samsung that is in spanish.
anyway, is there anyway to know where my phone originally came from or was manufactured for? and is there any way to change this?
Thank you.
You can search the baseband info on sammobile.com
I found that my ebay purchased unit was bound for Trinidad/Tobago.
Thanks!
Mine is for Colombia (COO)
will it be OK to install a firmware other than the one for colombia? for example I want to change to a firmware from brazil instead or germany.

Yes you can guys
flash via ODIN. Download firmware from samfirmware
Surely flashing a different firmware cant change the origin of the phone?
Be careful, your warranty may not be valid if the phones from a different country >. <

You just have to download the official firmware from sammobile.com and then flash through Odin. You will get the flashing instructions while doenloading the firmware from that site. This official firmware will give you stock recovery so no need for flashing custom(You may need one if you are up for rooting).

You can flash the latest firmware u wish if the phone is unbranded (no branded to any telephone company). Otherways we need know if is branded for flash correct firmware.
*EDIT: I let ya the 2 options anyway:
1. UK BTU (unbranded) -> I9505XXUEMKF -> HERE. This is the latest available for Kies 3 (means official of Samsung)
or
2. UK (H3G) -> Three Company -> I9505XXUEMK9 -> HERE

Maybe because its the wrong rom, but don't worry the phone is functional now.
First try to reset it in recovery mode, if that doesn't work I think you'll need a other firmware, but I don't know which one.
You can try:
United Kingdom (EE)
United Kingdom (H3G)
United Kingdom (O2)
United Kingdom (Vodafone)
I know its stupid and it does take long to get the correct one but its United Kingdom ()
to tell which one you had before.
btw the BTU version has 4.4.2 now .
or you can try to find the right modem for your phone and flash it trough odin, I did that before with my galaxy s2

hello,
i want to return to stock rom from cyanogen 11 on s4 but i can't get my csc and pda version from *#1234# and in sammobile there are so many choices and i dont want to brick my phone so i want to now if i can update to any software as i am not locked to any carrier bcz i hate cyanogen on s4
thank you
No, you can just put the file downloaded from Sammobile into the "PHONE" (or "PDA") area.
the firmware version of your phone should be on the original box with the IMEI , if you have the box go for it

Hi Mate
CSC stands for Customer Service Country , it gives you country/carrier specific configuration like language , carrier network settings ( like fastdormacy)
Is good to have but you can live without it.
Does that mean i can download any software from sammobile and install it without any problem??

Hi ,
In most cases yes , you may not have your language available or miss a network specific configuration but it should work ...

Yes.
But do not try network specific roms or firmwares of some different model.
Example: i9500 stock firmware wont work with i9505. You will brick your device.
Rest any i9500 rom will work with i9500.
I'm using a russian i9500 firmware on my Indian i9500, and it works better than the rest
Press Thanks if I helped

You won't need to downgrade/upgrade your modem manually. It'll happen automatically when you upgrade the firmware.
Since Spain (Vodafone) hasn't released the 5.0.1 update for the GT-I9506 yet, you should flash another one.
Theoretically, any region's firmware should work.
Go to Sammobile.com/firmwares and type GT-I9506.
Flash any firmware that isn't associated with a carrier.
From what I can see, Nordic Countries, Slovakia and Greece have unbranded I9506 firmwares.
Keep in mind, if your phone is ever sent for warranty, they might not accept it because the CSC will change.
So this is entirely up to you.

All the firmwares are identical, only difference is the origin country and obviously the CSC.
Since the firmwares are identical, they're all stable and SamMobile doesn't upload unstable ROMs, all the ROMs on are fully developed and are completely stable.

CSC stands for Customer Sales Code
CSC varies depending on who sold the phone to you, was it through a carrier or was it from a retail store?
For example, the CSC for Italy is ITV and XEF for France.
The CSC for Spain is PHE, but that's if you bought your phone from a retail store.
However, since your phone is from a carrier (your first post shows ATL as your CSC)
ATL is also the CSC for Spain but ATL is for Vodafone.
Suppose your phone gets damaged and needs to be sent in for warranty to get repaired/replaced.
The guy at the service center will check the phone and if the CSC is different from ATL, he will refuse to take your phone as it has technically been tampered with, in the sense that the original ROM has been removed and you have flashed the ROM of another country on your phone. There is nothing wrong with having the ROM for another country, but the service center people don't accept your phone unless it has the original CSC, which in your case is ATL.
BUT, if your phone ever does go for repair etc, do change the CSC before sending it.
You can use this guide to change your CSC.
It's fairly easy and you should be done quickly.
Enjoy flashing a new ROM on your phone and enjoy the 5.0.1 experience on that amazing Snapdragon-800 processor.

Of course there is.
Google change your CSC and a big XDA thread should come up in the Galaxy Grand section. That has a full tutorial in it, however before you do that.
Is the ATL CSC still installed on your phone even after flashing the firmware of a different country?
Check by dialing *#1234# in the dialer and post the stuff written in the CSC field here.

Dear Murtaza,
I hope you don't mind I am sending you a private message regarding my brother's phone.
He purchased it new. The Phone was operator blocked.
The store did something to the phone to allow him using the local telecom sim card.
Since my brother was not able to upgrade to new os versions. He gets the notifications but a soon as he executes the upgrade process on the air, an error shows up saying that the phone has been modified.
I have attached all the phone information collected using PHONE INFO.
Kindly, let me know whether I Can use the same Rom NEE to upgrade his phone and if safe doing it.
Is there anything else to do to correct the manual upgrade process?
Many thanks my friend

His phone is an I9505, so the process is exactly the same.
Just replace the I9506 firmware with the I9505 firmware the tutorial and you're all set. However, since device status is modified, after flashing the firmware through Odin, you should do a Factory Reset.
You can use any regions ROM as long as it's unbranded. The manual update process is exactly the same as it is on your phone.
Once you've downloaded the 5.0.1 firmware, flash it and let me know how its worked out for you.

it's not just that. I also have a problem receiving 3g and 4g networks and it's not due to the CSC, it is a weird hardware problem that makes the phone not refresh/search for network normally.
I've never found as solution to this problem, not even with people who run repair shops and I can't take it to samsung as it has the knox void.
