[Q] Not able to recover deleted pictures on nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all,
requesting everyone to please help me on this. I accidentally deleted loads of pictures and videos on my nexus 4, and I am trying to recover those using android recovery software (remosoftwareDOTcom). but this software is not able to discover nexus 4 because I cannot configure the phone as a "USB mass storage" unlike Samsung android phones. Enabled "USB debugging" after enabling myself as a developer, but did not help.
any step by step guide to get me out of this soup will be helpful.
thanks a lot!
Bijoy

That is the only way to do it. Clone the entire memory content out to a computer and then recover your photos from the dump.

You can use nexus photo recovery software to get back lost files from nexus phone, see this step by step nexus photo recovery tutorial.
It helped me last time. hope that it helps you also.

how do i trasnfer files to nexus from pc

i have unlocked and rooted nex 7 and now try install cyanogen mod i have zip for lasted version and latest version of gapps but cant put them on sd card on nexus because i get an error how can i do it?
thanks!
You could transfer them using Airdroid: http://airdroid.com/
Same here, that is awesome App。or via OTG function
Airdroid is good. I'd also suggest Software Data Cable since it allows you to drag and drop files between the device and your computer right from Windows Explorer.
What error do you get? That would be helpful for figuring out what the problem is.

The answers to your question are in the "Nexus 4 development section".. Look for the"Nexus 4 utility" thread. Nobody is going to link you when u can just go and look for yourself. It's 1 click fix. Good luck.

How are we being rude when you're the one who ain't putting the effort into looking it up on your own? I can understand if it's a question that not a lot of people know about - but in regards to your question, I could look it up in less than 2 minutes. Instead of making others spoon feed you with link(s), try to find it yourself.

I have tried googling my question but nothing comes up, the only links that pop up are how to root the nexus 4.
Yes find the xda link for that and if its how it should be you should also find a flash to stock, if you are a noon you should really start to make a nandroid backup of your stock ROM so you can always flash back
Sent from my SGH-T679 using xda app-developers app
If you don't want to be called a noob for asking questions that have easy answers, then why not ask in the noob-friendly "Help Thread" in the stickies? It's a lot more fun for all of us, in the end. The reason no one is giving you links is because you wouldn't learn anything from it, you must become self sufficient if you wish to use XDA to its fullest
Folks if any of you have the issue i did please dont worry about the trolls, only 1 person seemed to offer advice as is evident in this thread if your using a mac your going to want to install windows 7 on the bootcamp.
Next download a program called LG google nexus 4 toolkit (I will provide a link unlike the trolls above) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1995688
When that is installed your going to want to boot your device in fastboot mode, launch the toolkit and select option 9.
then select option 1 so it downloads the latest stock rom and follow the on screen instructions, my phone is now restored. If any of you run into problems give me a shout and ill try help
For those not too keen on installing bootcamp another user posted this

let's simplify things for mac.
-create a folder on the desktop and rename it "nexus"
-download this: https://www.box.com/s/7s02gu6o1cn6wcz6fszr and extract the files in the "nexus" folder. don't create a new folder. just dump the files there
-download the images: https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-jop40c-factory-cd3dc140.tgz then extract them all in the "nexus" folder. there is a zip file inside which needs to be extracted as well.
-look in your "nexus" folder and see if it contains the fastboot and adb files and the 6 img files you extracted. if they are still within a folder, remove them and paste just inside the "nexus" folder you created.
-once that is set up, you can now follow the link of efrant's guide for flashing but when you use the fastboot command, you need to use it as ./fastboot-mac so that the commands will work.
-you can actually just go straight to bootloader mode or fastboot mode on your phone by turning it off then turning it on by pressing volume down and power.

Here is the link to Efrats guide as mentioned in the quote: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34552123&postcount=1
People aren't trolls. Right in the general section there is a sticky that has all the info one would need to get back to stock. Then as other posters have said there is toolkit threads in the dev sections as well that include going back to stock.
@Vermillon: If you're calling me a " troll ", you surely don't know the true meaning of that word.

Looks like dead nexus :(

Hi
I installed via cmw smoothrom 4.4 and I can't get past the animation boot.
I reboot and the same, I boot into fast boot with power and volume down and can't get into recovery. Even when I connect USB with fast boot the tab freezes.
If I let the nexus boot to animation and plug it in via USB I can access the nexus but there is no folders/files.
I have tried wugfresh/jrom with no luck so I think my days with the nexus are over.
What a shame

So when you're in the bootloader the tablet freezes?
What OS are you using? I've heard of issues with Win8. You should be able to fastboot flash the bootloader .img file and the zip file from the stock Google N7 images for 4.2.2, have you tried that yet?
It freezes as soon as I plug a USB in whether it be a charger or laptop with win xp.
So that root maybe a problem

When in the bootloader, you don't have to do anything though, so I guess I'm confused here...
If you boot the tablet into the bootloader (Power + Vol Down), then plug in USB, open command prompt and change directories to where fastboot is (which is in the Android SDK - platform-tools directory) and type: fastboot devices
What happens?
That's too technical for me I'm afraid.
Nexus 7 paper weight I guess.

For what it's worth:
If you can get to the bootloader there's hope for it, however it will require research, installation of Android SDK Tools, Asus N7 USB drivers, and downloading the N7 factory Google images. There's plenty of how to guides on each of these topics, which in the end is not that hard to get going.
I suggest do a little research, and see what you can do.
Thanks

I'll give you $50 for the paper weight.

Take the initiative and read the stickies.
People that assist others on here seldom take to hand holding someone that hasn't taken initiative in trying to solve the issue them-self, or learn the toolset needed to fix the issues(s).
It can seem overwhelming but its easy if you take it step by step.
You need to get fastboot installed on your computer including getting the drivers for your nexus installed.
When this is done you just issue a few commands and you will be back in business.
this gentleman has a guide that will get you most of the way done. You dont need to root but pay attention to the fastboot flashing.

I'll also suggest YouTube as a source of knowledge. I can't tell you how many hours I've spent watching videos and reading stickied posts about rooting without a kit. I'm ordering my nexus 7 today and will still probably watch the same videos and reread the threads.

If your bootloader is still there everything is alright.

Rooting problem - need help and guidance

Hello all,
I've followed all the instructions posted on how to root my Nexus 4 on either YouTube and XDA. However, I keep getting the same "waiting for device" message once I set my device into bootloader mode. Any tips on what can or must I do next to solve this issue?
Thank you and I appreciate any help I get in here in advance

Use Wugs toolkit to install the device drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34674471
And you should really have posted this in Q & A

Well my first thought is to make sure you have USB debugging enabled. After that I would try the PDA net drivers instead of the one that came with the toolbox. I had a similar issue and that fixed it.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Mine was a pain to root. Drivers wouldn't update, other things didn't work, and the toolkit kept saying my ADB was off. The problem was my sdk wasn't up to date. Once I fixed that, I just used the ADB method and it was done in ten minutes.

You don't copy anything onto the phone... You flash it in fastboot. Plenty of threads about this.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
To restore the phone to stock you need to use fastboot, not flash through custom recovery, otherwise the phone still isn't stock and they won't receive updates.
Just follow these instructions: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34552123
For Windows 8 to install the driver you need to reboot into advance mode and press F7 at the menu to disable driver signature, adb/fastboot and driver link in my signature.

I used the fastboot guide and it worked. Thanks for your help everyone!
