I noticed that if i remove or freeze this app with Titanium Backup, my Hotspot turns on just fine without any popup for Verizon subscription.
The first time I turn on Mobile Hotspot after a reboot, there's an error saying Settings has crashed, but the Hotspot remains on. I also did the SQLite edit form the other thread and it also gives me an error for Settings but the hotshop remains.
So is the SPG app the one responsible for the verizon provisioning? if I remove it and use hotspot, will Verizon be able to track?

Found this post about how to truly disable the SPG app. This apk is the monitor of WiFi tethering. If we could nandroid, I could pull the framework-res and change the line to remove the SPG app.
If you have root though it should auto bypass Verizon thing though no?

No, but this would get rid of that annoying pop-up with no errors when you remove/freeze the SPG.apk. I found the line and going to test in a minute.
But on side note... Was the Note 3 supposed to have a fingerprint scanner?
Code:
<string name="kg_spass_swipe_unlock">Swipe a finger over the home key to unlock your device</string>
<string name="kg_spass_attempts_exceeded">Maximum fingerprint unlock attempts exceeded</string>
<string name="kg_spass_wait_ready">Please wait to get ready finger print recognition</string>
<string name="kg_spass_alternative_password">Enter the alternative password</string>
<string name="kg_spass_unregistred">You may swiped unregistered fingerprints. Otherwise, restart the device</string>

Has anyone who is NOT rooted taken the latest update, and gotten Foxfi working again?? If so please tell me how?? I NEED my hotspot back!!! And I can't even root my Note 3 if I wanted to cause I have no Windows computer.

Scratch this! Foxfi is still working!!!! I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now its working. Only thing is you have to keep it to allow all devices. If u switch to try n use allowed devices only, it will stop working.

Doesn't Foxfi show Verizons warning that you are about to use a mobile hotspot anyway? I tried a while back and that's what it did so I'm not sure I understand the point of Foxfi

It did take a little fiddling for me to get it to work. I installed and uninstalled a few times. I had to let Foxfi set up the VPN as well. Which you will get a pop up for when u first open the app.

You're right it does give that warning but it used to be when the warning popped up instead of hitting cancel you would just push your home button and wa la it worked! But now you get a pop up from foxfi asking to let them install a VPN and if u do this it will work again. And if by some chance u get the Verizon pop up again just hit home, not cancel.

Foxfi is an amazing app! It has totally saved me. I had a rooted note 2 that I used my hotspot on to give WiFi to my Nexus 7 that's installed in my car dash so that way I could use maps, music, etc. When getting the note 3 with Verizon, knowing it would be locked down, my biggest concern was losing my hotspot cause I need it for the car. And yes one can just root their N3 to get around this but if you're me, well then you have no windows PC computer therefore cannot root! Not this phone anyway. So Foxfi allowed me to keep my hotspot even without having root and for me anyway, that's the point of Foxfi! And that's why its so useful.

Nope. Not for me. I let it set up the VPN. Tried with and without the nolockscreen hash code. Not toggling the hotspot on. When i try manually, it just turns back off. Are you all verifying that you can still tether? Are there any settings in the Mobile Hotspot configuation you changed?
UPDATE: Got it working. I had installed the VPN certificate "for wifi" instead of "VPN and apps". I removed the certificate and started up FoxFi, this time leaving it with the default "VPN and apps" on the certificate installation. All is well now. Thanks!

Curious you running the latest firmware? If your not, obviously do not accept it.
Also are you on "shared everything" plan? This makes a difference as that "shared everything" plans apparently have the hotspot free, but if your on a normal/unlimited plan, then its not free..
I ask because I'm on the latest firmware, with FoxFi/PdaNet and it does not work for me.

Yes, I took the latest update, which got me into this mess. I was running it without issue before this. I am still on grandfathered unlimited, which is why FoxFi is necessary for me. Just happy I got it back to working, albeit now with a necessary pattern lock, but a happy sacrifice to keep tethering.

Hello,
I seem to not be able to get FoxFi to work, I know this is redundant but can you confirm the following steps:
uninstall foxfi
uninstall foxfi key
remove certificate from the settings->security panel
reboot phone
install foxfi
install certificate with default vpn parameters
turn on foxfi wifi
when verizon dialog box pops up hit the home button
I've tried that 3-4 times and it doesn't seem to work. Previous to the OTA update there would be a red icon showing in the top left of the screen when the hotspot was enabled, that no longer shows up, just the foxfi icon saying wifi is available. I am unable to logon to the hotspot wifi though.
Thanks

I like the phone, but the 16gb causes a lot of concern. After downloading my music from Amazon, it's almost gone.
I can't find an option to put music from Amazon on my sd card, is that hte new kit kat "feature"?
Also, the test message preview on my lock screen only says "New Message", ther eused to be an option that gave me a preview of the actual message..is it gone?
On the Note 3, it had a setting where screenshots would enter auto edit mode, came in real handy for me. S5 doesn't seem to have this?
When I disabled my magazine, my home screen transitions isn't continuous ..I know I seen the s5 do this in review videos.

Before you root you may want to look into fix for SHealth and ISIS Wallet (if you use it). You have to stop SHealth and Health Services in app manager and clear data and cache before you installed Xposed. You may even have to uninstall their updates if I remember as well.
Install xposed and it's service , then update Shealth and it should work fine. Once you get that done install ISIS Root Bypass 3.0 module for xposed and check it in modules and reboot and the Wallet will work fine after that.
These were two things that I use often and really had to get working to be happy with root.

Why put off until tomorrow, what you could do today, and prevent yourself from being screwed by VZW when they push 4.4.3 soon, and Root may not work with it?
In the text messaging app you'll see a setting to display the message on the lockscreen instead of new message.
Plug your phone into the computer and drag and drop the music to the SD or use root explorer to move it there.. You don't need root to do this.
No, the S5 cannot auto enter edit mode as far as I know, maybe clear defaults of gallery and set images to auto open in an editor?
As far as continuous transitions just use apex or Nova.

You'll have to edit a file using Root Explorer then if you disable My Magazine you'll have endless home screen scrolling. I use Nova launcher which already has the option in settings. If you definitely have to have the stock launcher and you can't get infinite scrolling to work let me know I'll tell you which file to edit.

Does anyone have any idea how I can change the encryption method back to swipe using Foxfi? I've tried all methods in this thread => http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2743117&page=8 to no avail. When trying those methods and going back into security - encryption, all items except password are greyed out un-available.
I drive a truck with the phone in a cradle and I REALLY need to be able to go back to just swiping the screen to unlock when I am rolling.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
VZW Galaxy S5 Retail Edition, rooted w/ SuperSU installed & knox disabled. Running Foxfi for wireless hotspot. Unless there is another way for me to make the hotspot work? Not on an 'everything' plan on old unlimited so I need to hack the hotspot.

Not sure where the problem lies because that method, while a pain in the ass, does work. Another way would be to install one of the ROMs that has the Verizon provisioning turned off, and then you can just use the built in hotspot toggle.

x2, or just install the Xposed framework, and X Tether, and remove FoxFi altogether. I mean, if you're already rooted, there's no real risk to the Xposed and X Tether that I have found. And SWIPE AWAY with it. I have been for a couple months now.
Found another quicker way to do this:
1. Goto google.com/android/devicemanager and locate your phone.
2. Click "Lock" and chose a new number password.
3. Type the new password on your phone and it will unlock.
4. Now it should let your change the lockscreen to anything, and foxfi will continue to work
Still working after restarting phone and using Foxfi

im on android 5.1, but this worked pre 5.1 as well. all i did was add this one line to my build.prop and tmobile does not see my wireless tethering.. add the line, save it, reboot for it to take affect. im also using the wifi tether router app for my tethering. but should work on the default option as well. i use tmobile, so cant say if it works with other providers.
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

any ROOT file explorer should work, i use the Root Explorer app. i locate the build.prop in /system/build.prop/, long press on it, press open in text editor, it tells me that the current file system is read only, then asks if i want to remount as read-write, i press yes, i add that line to the bottom, press save, then i reboot for it to take affect.

Yeah, That's what usually happens with both PlayStation consoles. When you connect and do a "test connection" on Playstation3/4 both would connect but when "connecting" PSN you would get an error. Most like would be 30696-4 because I got that ALL the time. But then my brother just caved and added a 7-day data pass 1/GB data mobile hotspot and immediately it worked. I was trying with VPN's and various DNS's and nothing was working for me, unless I chose some bad VPN's. But anyways, my data should be resetting for the month and going back to 5GB in a few days. Hopefully by then something would come up, but if not... it's alright I guess. Someone will eventually figure it out.
You have the same problem I HAVE! If you ever find a answer please PM me on here.
I looked for smart settings on my Verizon unit and couldn't find it. Looks like Verizon removed it.

No, unfortunately Verizon verified that they did indeed REMOVE My places functionality from their version, so no it will not auto-locate your home location after 5 days, either.
IMO, they are trying to force you to use more data. Most people turn their wifi off when they leave, and turn it back on when they come home - Smart setting will do just that. So, why would Big Red not want you to have it? Because when you have to do it manually, you'll forget to turn it back on when you get home... and when you do that, you'll use more data. my *theory*.

Or people will just leave WiFi on...because it doesn't use that much battery when not in use. This isn't a conspiracy to get people to use more data. Sounds like carriers have to pay for certain features on phones and Verizon didn't want to cash out for some less useful features. Plenty of other apps out there that can turn your WiFi on and off automatically.

Hmmm... most people I know turn it off, but to each his own. But when that is intentionally disabled along with FM radio, along with Google In Apps Search shortcut (by which you must do an internet search first before just searching for something on your phone...) - a pattern seems to be emerging... but let's give Big Red the benefit of the doubt, right? Let's forget about the lawsuit about them asking Blackberry to disable bluetooth so you couldn't transfer files, or the similar lawsuit about the same kind of thing with Motorola...
No... Nothing to see here... Move along, people, move along...
Any luck with this?
