How do I add ringtones to this phone?
Loving this swipe keyboard thing! Very cool.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Create a folder named Ringtones and copy mp3 files to it.
Another quick question: On my iPhone 4, I used to be able to stream videos easily using an app called Air Video (even across my data connection after forwarding a port) and it used to work flawlessly.
Is there anything similar in the Android world that's just as easy to configure and use?

If you want them to appear as if they are native Android ring tones put them in media/audio/ringtones.

FYI, that's not necessary. Mediaserver will find them in Ringtones, Alarms, and Notifications folders at the root level of sdcard/.

If you mean stream from a PC to your phone, you can do this very well over ftp with an app that offers a client such as ES File Explorer.
Thanks I'll try this out soon :good:
I was removing some bloat after rooting, and everything I removed seems fine except one thing. Whenever I get an email, and pull down the notification bar and click on it directly, my email app force closes(using stock google app). If I go to the email app itself and then view the email, it's fine. Does anyone have any idea what the apk I removed that could have caused this, and if so does anyone have a backup they can upload, thanks!!

Do you happen to have the apk, or know where I can get it?
I downloaded the magazineapp, that didn't seem to fix it, I think I'll just re install the original EMAIL client APK, does anyone out there have that or a link to it?
This is driving me crazy, text message notifications don't seem to bother it, and I can set my emails to not notify in the notifaction bar and then they work perfectly when I go to open them. But if I set them to show in notification bar(which i need for my work exchange server) it says sorry, email has closed. Even if I don't pull look at the notification, and go directly to the email, it closes on the first try, the second time is fine

yes, same problems
I'm having the same issue. Using stock email app, connected to exchange 2007 server and keep getting weird force closes when opening items from the notification window. I've been going through unfreezing apps 1 by 1 but so far no joy.

Use a file explorer and drop the apk in the system/app folder and change permissions to match other files in that folder.

After getting FC with Exchange account after freezing a variety of apps in TiBu (generally the same ones frozen on my VZW S4), I've had to go back to defrosting everything, and only "Turn off" via application manger. I could never quite figure out which one(s) were causing it, but Exchange wanted the magazine app, Ant, and other what would seem entirely unrelated apps to be enabled. As much as I hate crap running that I neither use or want, the Note 3 has so much RAM and horsepower that it really doesn't seem to matter.

Has anyone been able to get the native SMS app from a 4.3 build working on the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE.? It receives SMS just fine and seems to have a SMS receiver app because i can view any SMS that is sent to its mobile number, but there is no interface to type a response. I tried to transplant the mms.apk from a Nexus 4 4.3 build as i did with my 2012 Nexus 7 3G but after changing the permissions and rebooting the cell radio kept crashing so there is something more involved other than just transplanting the APK and changing the permissions for the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE. Any ideas..? Thanks for your time, it's greatly appreciated.

Try this one. Is an original MMS.apk from a Nexus 4.3 factory image which works fine for me. Tried also some *modified* apk, but they did not work.

That worked but the old notification window is still present when new SMS messages come in. So the mms.apk gets the SMS but the old display olny notification also pops up.
--UPDATE---
Problem solved i disabled the simple Message Viewer i found in application manager, i guess i can delete that apk or file..

Tried this, the apk would not install. Does it need to be copied to a specific location on the tablet?
Update: Never mind, copied it to /system/app, set permissions and I'm golden.
This workaround appears to no longer work on 4.4 (official build) as the ability to set an app as the default SMS app is hidden.
Has anyone figured out a further workaround?
Anyone have the solution in getting this working in Kit Kat..? Thanks

I have found a Dev who found a work around for the 2012 nexus 7 3G which works.. But I am not sure if it will translate to the DEB devices and I am also having a hard time with the Framework-res.apk file. Any insight on editing that file.? Please advise.

The zip @GuyAdams provided is working and i will post it shortly for use.

As I said attached is the zip to enable SMS functionality on the 2013 Nexus 7 LTE model, the fix was developed by GuyAdams for the Nexus 7 3G 2012 and then ported to the 2013 LTE model. This was made from Android 4.4 (KRT16S).
I can successfully use hangouts to receive and send SMS using this zip.
Just flash while in recovery and reboot, you should be good to go. I or should i say we are NOT responsible if you botch this up.
View attachment 2013_KRT16S_SMS.zip
In case you want to revert back to your stock non SMS capable state i have attached a zip to revert back to the original non SMS capable state..
Just flash while in recovery, and again i or should i say we are NOT responsible if you botch this up.

Do we have a basic or technical explanation as to what caused or why this happened? I'm assuming root is required as well?
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm not sure what you mean why this happened..? This was intentionally done by google, no nexus 7 with mobile connectivity ever had native SMS or Telephony services out of the box. It always needed a "hack" to get it fully working.
Root is not required as all you need is an unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery in order to flash the zip. I just boot into my custom recovery but everyone does things differently.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------UPDATE-------------------------------------------------------------------------
a side effect of this is the call setting being exposed (set up google voice and you will gain access) so lets see if we can take it one step more and get the google dialer working for sip calls.. so far it seems to try and dial directly from the people app by selecting a contacts number, but if you try dialing from within the new google dialer it crashes.. Just a heads up, if anyone knows the dependancies needed for the kit kat google dialer please do chime in..

My husband is trying to go figure out if there's anyway to transfer files from his Kindle Fire HD to another device that has Bluetooth. ES File Explorer doesn't give the Bluetooth option, like it does on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3. I'm thinking that Amazon has it blocked in some way.

The Bluetooth is on. The devices are paired. I can send him files. He has no option to share files to me. Yes, he can email them or send to Dropbox. But he wants to use Bluetooth instead.

You can send files..can you browse his from your device? Have you tried using Root Explorer? Some devices when paired have a parent/child relationship.. try using the device that won't share as the parent connection
-End Transmission NERV HQ-
The latest version of esfile explorer has Bluetooth transfer support. I don't like the interface as much as the previous one so I don't use it. I'm guessing you have the version I'm using but from the amazon market, if you have the Google play market then you can get the newer version, it's free as usual.

So, uh... for me, after I flashed this ROM, everything works perfectly right off the bat! No settings changes needed, as soon as it booted up for the first time I had network connectivity, data is working, LTE working, calls (incoming and outgoing) working, texts (receiving and sending) all working perfectly, camera working, wifi working... and it's lightning fast, it's like a brand new phone!
EDIT: Actually I spoke too soon... for some reason trying to send a text just says "message not sent", but I can still receive texts fine. Looking into this issue now.

This build fixes the market incompatibility error, among other things. For some reason, sending texts still won't work for me, but receiving texts does.
