Ok, Ive always had crappy 3g on my x10 but i put it down to signal issues, i thought i was in a poor 3g area.
I noticed whilst playing around in the settings that i could set the phone from WCDMA only, whereas before it was GSM with WCDMA preferred.
This sorted the problem out perfectly, great 3g performance even with crappy signal, the problem is that for some reason this means when there is no 3g signal it doesnt just fallback to GSM for voice.
From what i have read on the net it seems like changing to WCDMA only should -only- affect the data connection, not the phones voice connection.
Am i doing something wrong?
Is there a way that i can force the phone to use 3G only for data, but still use GSM for voice?
Thanks
in that case you should set the settings to like this 1. wireless controls 2. mobile network 3. network mode "WCDMA" then 4. network operator then search network tap the available current network what u r using do not select the automatically 5. done
after that turn off the phone remove the simcard for 5 sec. then turn on again wala u have 3 to 4 signals on ur 3g connection....

ouch, seriously doubt that's possible on the x10
maybe deleting the 3g APN or creating a blank one and just selecting the right mms one
Isn't MMS dependent on data?

It is but you can create 2 APNs one for data and one for MMS and after enable/disable the data APN on case by case needs
At least i think it works on rogers because i saw separate settings for MMS only.
I am confused too. Hohoho... But as I remember, previous phones (such as X1,X2,p990) did have this options. Correct me if I am wrong. Because I always connect internet/browsing using wifi. Except mms.

I got an international version SM-G900i from Amazon. I have an ATT sim card. The text and phone calls work fine but I could not get any data roaming. Though from other posts I got the data roaming, I was not able to set onto the ATT 3G/2G network in the network operator selection. My network is always shown as Maritime. Does anybody know why this happens and ways to change it?
Thanks a lot.

I tried configure the APN setting based on a link online for ATT APN. Now I am losing signals even for calls and texts....I think there might be other things that are wrong...
Error message for no ATT service
Tried different variety of ATT APN setting. Still could not get it to work....the phone shows a signal but gave me an error message that Selected network(AT&T) not available

I'm not sure what did you mean by "data roaming"??
Anyway, the problem for now is no network register. The APN settings will NOT affect at this step, so not not try to mess up with it right now.
Try to get into Settings > More networks > Mobile networks, and set Network mode to Auto connect, and Network operator > Select automatically.
That may help the device to register on the Home network.
Problem solved....or maybe not but it is working!

Okay. Thanks. I switched it back to the auto-selection mode. By data roaming....I mean 3G data. My phone is working now. I checked ATT billing usage report, it did not increase the data usage dramatically so I guess everything is fine.

Glad that your phone works now.
BTW "data roaming" and "3G data" are different things. "data roaming" is "3G data" when you are roaming to another network (not your home network).
A friend updated his device to V30a LP rom and as a result the devices works on 2G only and doesn't show any 3/4G networks
what could have gone wrong?
Check the Network Mode in Settings. Settings -> Tethering & Networks -> Mobile Networks. The network mode should be set to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto" or "GSM/WCDMA".

hello, do you solved this problem? i had the same issue after install cloudy and later return to stock to see if it backs to normality and it wont, later install kitkat and the same issue... i later flash the efs backup from a friendĀ“s phone and change to my imei with qpst, and yes it works i was happy but it last like 30 min and returned to connect to only 2g Edge...
I will be getting a prepaid Verizon service and so far the only phone that's unlocked and cheap that will work for Verizon is the Moto x pure. Now my question is if I flash any of the available roms with it will it work perfectly fine while I'm on Verizon? If I flash cm 14 will it boot up and still get Verizon services? I apologize for a dumb question,I've always had gsm carriers and had nothing to worry about.
It should work fine. I had to activate my sim card n not even 2min later I was able to receive n make phone calls.

I'm on Verizon, as well.
Come back and post your custom ROM experiences.
As a VZ user, I go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > More > Mobile > Preferred network type --> select LTE / CDMA
While still under Mobile --> turn on Enhanced 4G LTE Mode (if it's there).
I find that when I leave the mobile settings as "Global", I have signal issues.
I switch back to Global when traveling in GSM countries and using their sim.

The default & correct setting for Verizon is Global. Only change this on Verizon if your in an area that you should change it (aka an area that piggy backs off of non-Verizon towers). Opinions are good here, but it's also how wrong info gets spread.

I disagree if the settings work. I wasn't talking about default settings. I am talking about what works on Verizon. I've traveled across the country with these settings because it works for both stock and custom roms, without having to fiddle with "global" to CDMA/LTE settings because I was unaware that the area "piggy backs off of non-Verizon towers". I'm working and need my phone to work. Setting it to CDMA/LTE works unless I'm in a no VZ cell area. I've had more issues with my android phones when set to "global", even in the Northeast (VZ stronghold area). So, I set it to CDMA/LTE because my service is more stable that way.
Hi to all,
I have the MI 9T for almost 3 weeks.
On all of my phones I set up my data plan so it will stop mobile data if I reach my monthly limit.
I would like to point out two things
1) Not even once, I've reached my limit until with this phone...
2) This is my first MIUI rom, I always used lineage OS or AOSP based roms.
Yesterday I've got a notification about my reaching my mobile data plan and my phone stopped having internet through mobile data.
I sent an sms to my carrier and I got informed that I have 260mb more...
So I thought, It must be a wrong calculation from my phone so I turn off my data plan restriction, only to find out that I still cannot connect to the internet when I'm not on a wifi connection.
My phone says 4G/LTE but no internet.
Things I've done with no results.
1) Restart my phone
2) Turn on/off Airplane mode
3) Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Data is on & Dual 4g is on & Set data plan to off
4) reset APN settings
5)increasing data plan's limit
The only thing that worked is to change the current month from October to November.
Is ther any other option on MIUI that I'm missing out? or is this a common bug?
MIUI Global 10.3.15
It is very important to me because I need to check my mails on the go.
Thank you all for your time.
Same thing here on a Redmi Note 8 running MIUI Global 11.0.9!
- Data plan was set to 5GB, limit reached -> mobile data got disabled.
- Purchased 1GB extra
- Enabled mobile data, turned on/off airplane mode, turned off all MIUI Data Plan setting, turned it back on with higher limits etc, reset APN, tried 3G instead of 4G... actually the same things you already tried. Nothing worked, while the 4G icon is displayed like it should work. It's really an issue in the data plan code of MIUI.
- Googled the issue.. found this thread, now I finally have mobile data connection after changing the date settings 1 month ahead, turn off mobile data, turn on mobile data, reset date to use network time. Thank you @megam4n!
This is a weird and frustrating bug. The phone probably loses mobile data connection again after midnight or after phone reboot.
