Furthermore, the GALAXY Note 3 is equipped with an improved Find My Mobile feature that allows users to disable the phone when it is stolen or lost. With the enhanced user authentication, the technology prevents stolen mobile phones from being reset to factory settings, and allows users to remotely track or erase the data from their lost or stolen mobile phones.

But what about if i enter stock recovery using hardware buttons and just wipe data from there? is it possible? can a thief bypass this new security simply entering recovery mode?

Okay, my HD2 yesterday forgot my unlock passcode, I have not installed any version of sype, and running 1.66 WWE stock Rom. My Exchange Server security policies forces a passcode.
What i have found (tested) is that an option in BsB Tweaks is causing the problem.
The option that is causing this (or at least for me) is 'Owner Information - show or hide owner in settings'
When enabled, with the show notes, your Owner information and notes are displayed when you wake the phone (before slide to unlock) I wanted this option because it gives you a slightly better chance of recovering your phone if it gets lost.
It works well initially, then for some reason it fails to show, restart the phone and BANG, your passcode wont work!! I have experimented this and it happens every time.
Thought I'd let you all know my findings, and hopefully this bug can be ironed out.
regards
Paul
I've tested it some more today, and I'm pretty sure that it is the Owner info. Going to leave it off now, but would definitely want this feature fixed As i said before it does give me a slightly better chance in getting it back if it gets lost!
Have you tried using the Recovery Password from the Outlook Web Access for your exchange server?
It's not the Exchange password that gets forgotten, it the unlock code for the phone!!! You just cant unlock the phone, hard re-set is the only option!!
Its a know problem for some people that install sype! Same thing your passcode just will not work

You can use the EMC, the Shell, or Microsoft Office Outlook Web App to recover a device password.
You can require a device password through Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync policies. A user can configure a device password even if your Exchange ActiveSync policies don't require one. If users forget their password, you can obtain a recovery password using the EMC or the Shell. The recovery password unlocks the device and lets the user create a new password. Users can also recover their device passwords by using Outlook Web App.

Hi all, long time lurker. Have a few questions on how the Incredible handles Active Sync 2007 policies.
Until now I have not seen an Android phone that will natively implement password protection, remote wipe and encryption settings. In fact, if you do not allow non provisionable devices, most Androids will not sync natively.
The Incredible will accept a remote wipe and a implement a device password. This has not been documented anywhere by HTC, Google, or VZW that I can find, but I have tested this and it works well.
The sole question I have left is with encryption. How can I verify if the handset is encrypting data, both messages and any attachments that are downloaded and/or viewed on the handset? I'm unsure of how the Incredible will do this as OS does not support full device encryption such as the iphone or windows mobile devices, at least not that I have found documented anywhere.
What would be the best way to test to see if the data at rest on the phone is indeed being encrypted instead of Android simply reporting to Exchange that it is doing so?
Thanks in advance...
I've been using my personal phone (Touch Pro 2 Windows Mobile 6.5 prof) to get my email when traveling. My company just changed exchanged servers and corporate policies that require a PIN to be entered to used the phone, as well as a remote wipe should you exceed the logon tries, or if they just want to (like when you leave the company. The wipe will include all your personal data/apps, including what's on the sd card. Obviously this concerns me ad I did an immediate backup of everything.
I found registry setting throigh the forums to disable the auto pin required, removing the auto wipe if tries time etc and they work fine. Also found the "StayUnlock" app just in case I see them reapply this policy.
The real question is - how can I prevent the remote wipe should they choose to invoke? There doesn't appear to be any registry setting for that, more like a built in capability of the the 6.5 activesync function from what I've read on the net. I'm thinking I need to find some way to disable their ability to perform commands remotely on my phone - without losing the exchange connection altogether. Any ideas on how to accomplish this?
Is that possible?
No unless they have MDM installed. If your company uses a mobile device managment software like air watch as example they can. You would usually know if you had MDM because you would see software installed on your phone or you are forced to setup and enter password to unlock your phone even though you didn't set it to behave like that.

How do I know if my phone has MDM software on it? My phone is encrypted because of AES activesync.
I do have to enter a pin and when I go to screen lock settings, some of the options are disabled by administrator, encryption policy, or credential storage.
Sounds like you have MDM. Can you disable the pin code or no? If you cannot then MDM is controlling your phone.

Did you use a microsoft account or where you/her illogical in using a local account?
If you did the sensible thing and used the microsoft account you can reset your password from another PC as long as the tablet does have a wifi connection. When you login on windows 8 if you have an internet connection it will actually connect to the internet to see if your microsoft account password has changed, enables you to use the same password across multiple machines and changing password on 1 machine updates all, also helps if you forget your password

Otherwise. If its a local account. Its your own blooming fault if you forget your own password.

That's what I mean aswell. The password you log into the computer with. When you get a windows 8 device it asks very clearly if you want to use/create a microsoft account to log in with, or if you want to make an account on that device only. And it heavily biases towards using the microsoft account (there is next to 0 reason to use local for a consumer).
If you or your sister ignored the big full screen page asking which to use, well sorry, your either gonna just have to try the password reset I linked to and hope you did select to use a microsoft account or accept that forgetting the password is a bad idea (infact I cant even work out for the life of me how one even does that). If it is the latter option, its fixable. I dont know how though. I guess booting into recovery and resetting the entire device that way would work, would restore the tablet to the state it came from the factory in so you will have to set it up and install all your software from scratch, in which case USE A MICROSOFT ACCOUNT SO THIS CANT HAPPEN AGAIN. You cant even use the app store properly with a local account, I think it lets you buy stuff but if you lose that account you lose your purchases. Whereas I have both my desktop and laptop configured with microsoft accounts, went on laptop (newer of the 2), went on store, it has all my apps listed already. The app I bought on my laptop is now installed on the desktop too without having to buy it again.
EDIT:
If you set a BIOS password as GoodDayToDie suggested, yeah, you better hope you remember that password because its not resettable and its not covered by manufacturers warranty, home or gadget insurance probably wont even be coerced into paying out for that.
He might have set a BIOS password... in that case, you're SOL.
Also, fix your damn thread subject.
