Currently I have never even Rooted a Android device before and I have been wanting to get a custom ROM for awhile now. I saw OmniROM on Android Authority and it looked really good and supports the Nexus 10 along with other devices. I learned recently that it is recommended that you should do all of this as soon as you get the device so that you do not lose information that you might want.
I'm looking for a good tutorial and some recommendations on what I should do to back up some of my files and what I should do in case I decide to switch back to stock Android.
Any help would greatly be appreciated!
This ROM isn't really ready for general consumption yet... it will get there tho.

Hi there helpful bunch out there its me with maybe and somehow a boring question for most of you but for me much guidance is needed. Here is what I have and then what I would like to accomplish.
I bought originally a packerd bell liberty tab g100 with stock android 3.something installed. As soon as Acer came with the ICS upgrade for the iconia a500, which is the same tab as you all ofc know, I installed that update with a very simple guide. Now year(s) later, and yes this brick isn't the best around but can't afford anything else so first would like a fresh install and second a upgrade while at it.
Now, I looked much on XDA and found a lot of text that made my head hurt and which I bravely tried to follow that guide but somehow it didn't work.
So now I have android 4.0.1 rooted and I would like to go to android 5 if that's even possible ofc.
Hope you smart people can help me to overcome this hurdle. Tnx
Hey there, I've recently bought a Nexus 7 with the latest os already installed on it, which has made it run slower with every passing day.
I did a bit of googling and found that a lot of people had issues with their Nexus 7s after they upgraded to the latest os.
So now I'm wanting to downgrade to the previous os and I read in an article on Androidcentral that said getting a custom rom would be the best way to go to (I'm guessing) either get a previous os or get a streamlined version of the one I already have.
So I need help finding the best rom for my purposes, I'm very new to this sort of thing, in terms of roms, flashing and downgrading os and such so any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'd love to be able to use this tablet St something other than the speed of smell lol.
@EddieHades welcome to the community. First of all it's always the best method using a custom ROM, but make sure you have unlocked bootloader. If you don't have unlock bootloader then you've to do it first, make sure you've backed up all your data. Second choice if you want to stick with stock rom. Then just go to this link and download your preffered stock ROM as per your device, make sure you've downloaded proper images. Then download Nexus Root Toolkit and flash that image and you're good to go.
This is my first post, hope you can help me :- Hope its in the right place
I have just acquired a nice nexus 10 and managed to upgrade it to android to 5.1.1.
I am a complete novice when it comes to anything to do with rooting or custom ROMs and have always been scared to tackle anything like this, but it seems a pity that I am stuck with Lollipop when my phone is showing me the benefits of the latest nougat upgrade.
So do I chicken out again or do I ask for advice from the experts in this forum to hold my hand while i upgrade to nougat ?
I see a post by Trafalgar Square "how to install android 6.0.1 marshmallow" and although I don't understand much ( at the moment ) about what the developer is telling me to do I think that if i could have my hand held with a similar GUIDE for Nougat then I think i would have the guts to have a go. I see a posts by Sooti who is advocating using AOSP [7.1.1_r4] ( Again I am unsure what he is telling me to do ) and without an absolute basic guide I dare not consider that.
So what do your experts recommend that I do ? Can I be helped ? or must I allow the general fear of "bricking" my device to stop me again as it always did before .
Must I be so afraid of bricking it or could I be helped to recover from a bricked device should the worst happen ?
Download the Nexus Root Toolkit by wugfresh. It makes rooting and flashing custom ROMs as well as custom recovery a breeze! Plus if you brick it, it's most likely going to be a soft brick (bootloop) and the Nexus Root Toolkit will easily fix it. (Trust me, I've been there a few times.)
If you'd like Android Marshmallow, I might recommend OmniROM, unless Lineage has fixed the battery drain issue. (CyanogenMod 13 was terrible on battery.)
Lineage 14 can be found around here which is based on Android Nougat. It's supposedly really fast and battery efficient. Though it has some bugs, most notably the camera is disabled because the camera server keeps crashing and kills the battery otherwise from what I understand. So if you don't care about a camera, Nougat is available, otherwise stick with Marshmallow.
Since I use my Nexus 10 for Skyping on occasion, I'm stuck with Marshmallow. If Lineage 13 has fixed the battery drain issues, I'd definitely be interested to know.
Thank You Rochester. As I type this post I have followed your recommendations and managed to root the nexus and installed busybox. I will now follow the next section and decide whether to choose nougat

Aye, no problem! I'm glad I could help, and welcome to the forums!
AgentOrange96,
I Chose the OmniROM route like you. Wugfresh has done a marvellous job with his Toolkit, and I will be saying thanks to him too !!!
I am all up and running now and my experiences with your forum has removed my fear of Custom ROM flashing and Rooting, so much so that my nexus 6P will be rooted and customised next.
Many thanks to you ( and Brandon your Chief Admin ) for welcoming me as a member !!!
Hi all,
I have not been here in yonks but I know this forum is always helpful. I am trying to flash a slim updated rom on my old android galaxy note. Out of no where, so many of my apps on that phone stopped working and it kept saying, this device is not compatible etc. I tried all the tricks and still a lot of apps will not work.
I have Odin pro installed on the phone but I forgot how to use it lol so may require direct instructions. But can someone recommend a fast but small in size build to flash which is updated. It says on my galaxy note that it’s running 4.1.2 which is jelly bean. If I recall it’s probably a custom rom but it’s been so long.
Thanks I advance if anyone can help me with instructions, I know it’s easy to do, but it’s been ages.
Cheers [emoji106][emoji106]

So, the Quebec government here has come out with a vaccine passport which will be needed to do just about anything. Therefore, I will need to upgrade the wife's S5 to 8.1, from 6.1, as 8.1 is the minimum for this app to work. This goes into effect September 1.
Now, I see a bunch of things online obviously, but as I recall this place here was/is the holy grail for cell phones. Just hoping to not have to buy a new phone as our pensions don't leave all that much wiggle room.
Note that I just need the stock rom for 8.1. Not looking to root or other such things.
Model #sm-g900w8
Just need to be pointed in the right direction is all. Once I know a source can be trusted I should, hopefully, be able to take it from there.
Thanks.
Well, I do need to try anyway, otherwise I will absolutely have to buy a new phone, which I am trying to avoid if possible.
Thanks though.
Had replied to you in a different thread that didn't have as much info as above.
Unfortunately there is absolutely no chance of getting a stock 8.1 rom on the S5 they stopped developing at 6.1
Best bet is to flash a custom rom like LOS or mokee both trusted roms. But you'll need to flash a custom recovery TWRP.
But yeah Unfortunately that's basically your only option without upgrading the device for a newer model
Good luck

No worries, glad you got it sorted eventually
You're going to get a better experience with a newer phone.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ca.quebec.vaccandroid&hl=en_US&gl=US App says 5.0 and up. No need for 8.1. Maybe you should read before panicking.
Hi, you will find all you need to upgrade to Android 11 here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...g-galaxy-s5-from-stock-to-android-11.4354951/
