Unbrick - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
I think I just bricked my S4 big times. I neither can mount /system nor /cache nor /efs. (I did a efs backup a while ago so I'm not concerned about that) But my phone doesn't boot, TWRP doesn't recognize any OS etc. It happened after I flashed the Domination Theme over Omega 10 (MH8). I have a working backup. Any way to get system, cache and efs to mount again? I really have to have a working phone tomorrow.

No need for help anymore. Fixed it by wiping system and cache manually through advanced wipe options in twrp. After that I was able to restore from my backup

[Q]Motorola Defy(MB525)/data and /cache partition problem (corrupted?)

I found my data and cache partition corrupted, and i dont know why.
I don't know anyway to fix it but do SBF flash (so far I am doing the THIRD SBF flash today, really frustrating)
[edit] why i think data and cache partition corrupted:
1. I couldn't mount data and cache and psd partition in recovery, but i can mount sdcard (and can't unmount system partition, is it supposed that system can't be unmounted?)
2. when i booted up the system(Kayant's AOKP), the size of internal memory is 0.0B, as shown in the settings->storage
[/edit]
Is there any to fix without doing SBF flash?
another question:
How to prevent it/any precaution so that the partition wont mess up? (I probably did some wrong thats why the partition was messed up, but I have no idea what I had done wrong)
here is what i did:
I had had this problem before so I do a SBF flash and the problem is gone.(I installed Kayant's AOKP rom -4.1jb)
Yesterday I decided to flash another rom (that was Quarx's cm10.1 rom) i did a nandroid backup first, then installed the rom and installed some apps, after that I installed Kayant's Slim rom(from the new aokp paradise), i found some bug and at last decide to return to Kayant's AOKP rom. I installed the 2nd Init boot menu(coz i did the nandroid backup with CWMrecovery, not TWRP), and problems came while restoring it. It failed to restore /data partition, I tried more times but couldn't fix this. So at last I turned to SBF flashing.
I flashed and rooted it with SuperOneClick and installed 2nd Init boot menu then install the AOKP rom(didn't restore the nandroid this time) then factory reset-ed it with stock recovery, and I found the /data and /cache partition messed up again(obviously the partition isn't messed up right after SBF flashing because i can install the 2nd Init app).
Now I am doing the third SBF flash.
You shouldn't have formatted data and cache with stock recovery. That was a mistake in your second attempt.

should I use aroma wiper and do a ext4 wipe if i am going to flash jb roms (like cm10/android 4.1 or higher), to prevent messing it up?
is it necessary to do wipe before or after install a new rom?
besides, any idea why the partition messed up/ failed to restore data when i do a nandroid restore, when i tried to restore with cwm recovery within 2nd Init boot menu installed on Kayant's Slim rom?

Yes, format to ext4 for JB ROMs. Full wipe not necessary but recommended.
Start afresh, install the ROM and restore data.
Plus, you shouldn't have installed 2ndinit again. You should have installed dual recovery and tried.
Got same problem, data and cache partition corrupted.
Fortunately I have TWRP installed so I went to File System utility and format data and cache (I choose ext3).
Then restored previous backup and everything worked like before!

[Q] Unable to mount /efs? Please help!

So the story goes like this. I flashed cm10.2 on my galaxy s4 i9505. Days later, there was an update. I was hoping that the new update might have some battery improvements so I went ahead and updated it. After updating, I realised there was a bug with the back button, so I tried to restore my old cm10.2. But there was a 'unable to mount system, unable to mount cache and unable to mount efs' error. I fixed the first 2 by wiping system and cache, but I could not fix efs. I had to flash a new cm10.2 because I couldn't restore it. Now my efs file is empty but I can call and sms. The only issue is that the mobile carriers appear as numbers(e.g. at&t appears as '52575'), but it doesn't bother me as I've remembered which number is my carrier. I have a backed up stock rom but again, I can't restore it because of the unable to mount /efs error... Any similar experiences/ solutions?
THANKS A LOT!

[SOLVED] Rooted Nexus 4 All F2FS Stuck at Boot Animation After Flashing Custom ROM

Hi guys! I need a bit of help. I was using PA 4.42 with FK r209 on my N4 with all F2FS (/system, /data, /cache). Yesterday I flashed Nexus_5_Experience_cm11_Nexus4_Release8.5 which claimed in its features that it has F2FS support. so I made a Nandroid backup with TWRP, wiped system, data, cache, dalvik cache and flashed the ROM. Installer did the job apparently fine and showed installation as successful. I then rebooted but ROM could not make it. It was stuck on decryption password screen and did not go past even by giving the password. Then I got back to TWRP Recovery mode and tried to restore my Nandroid backup but it was also stuck at PA boot animation prior to decryption password screen. Then I again went back to Recovey, wiped system, cache, data and dalvik cache again and then restored the Nandroid backup again but it stuck at PA boot animation again.
Is there any way I can restore my backup or would I need to fastboot flash a factory image to make the phone alive again? If so, would it be ok to flash factory image while having all partitions converted to F2FS? Will it do the job or add up in the issue?
Any suggestions would be appreciated please.
EDIT:
ISSUE SOLVED BY FASTBOOT FLASHING 4.4.4 FACTORY IMAGE WHICH HAD NO CLASH WITH F2FS PARTITIONS AND RE-WROTE ALL PARTITIONS TO EXT4 FORMAT.

Formatting f2fs with TWRP 2.8.7.0

I've been using TWRP for ....ever on my N900T (Note 3). Today I thought to format System/Data/cached to f2fs. TWRP 2.8.7.0 would only format system and cache, and only offered "Error =1" when trying to format data. By dropping down to 2.8.1.0 I was able to format data. All seemed well until I found the system and cache reverted back to ext4...probably after restoring the rom. I DID check the -rf box in settings before restoring the backup, but ...oh well.
After updating TWRP to 2.8.7.0 I went to backup the rom again, but data was not accessible. I tried repairing the file, but that was in vain also. I went BACK down to 2.8.1.0 and formatted the data back to ext4, but left system and cache f2fs. The phone seem to work fine like this, but I would REALLY like to format the data f2fs. Is there anyway of doing this with success?

Okay...I found that by downgrading TWRP to 2.8.1.0 I was able to format all to f2fs, restore the backup, and create a new backup. So...I'm going to stay on 2.8.1.0 until someone can assure me 2.8.7.0 or another version can perform the format and maintain the stability..

Accidently Wiped /data partition. Now how to recover data?

Hello guys I thought WIPE DATA in stock recovery is just like TWRP which means it won't format internal storage, but it did I tried undeleter and almost all good recovery tools, but nothing can be seen or retrieved. How do I restore my data? Thanks..

https://drfone.wondershare.com/ Try Dr. Phone. I don't think it will help if you deleted the data but you can try
