Focused pics on Unlocked Bootloaders - Xperia Z1 General

I don't know if this has been posted before, but you can actually get focused pictures from the photosphere part of the google edition camera on an unlocked bootloader.
I just flashed the zip from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2353099
This is on CarbonRom, but I guess it would work on any of the cm based roms, maybe.
Just align your camera with one of the dots and after it makes a sound to indicate it has the first picture taken, immediately press stop and it will start processing in the gallery. Then you'll have a slightly in focus picture from your camera. However the pics don't look as good as stock, they do however work for me, at least until sony fixes the camera for real :fingers-crossed:.
I have no idea how this works, I am not a dev or anything like that, but it would be cool to find out why this works and everything else doesnt?

Thanks that helped me.

[Q] Camera issues?

Hi guys,
I have just got an GT-i9506 and I'm loving the size, speed and how smooth everything feels, compared to the S3 I had previously.
BUT I think I am having an issue with the camera.
I can take great photos, but the focus when close up or macro is horrible.
On my S3 if I got a little too close, I would hold the phone further back, focus on my subject, move a bit closer and focus again and so on until I was as close as I wanted to be and I was able to take the shot.
I can't seem to get this technique to work on this phone.
I find, even taking shots from a far (which the camera focuses fine with), when I zoom in after the photo is taken, the quality is horrible.
For once, heavily sharpening my images in post-production in apps like VSCO is actually helping!
Is anyone else seeing a drop in camera quality compared to older devices like the S3?
Any recommended settings in the stock camera, flashable fixes or apps people would recommend over the stock camera for this device?
Thanks

Is there a camera fix re: panorama / photosphere blurriness?

For the Moto X Pure, no matter what app I use, even though still pictures and videos are relatively focused and clear, when I do photosphere or panorama, the images are extremely blurry. The camera appears to drop focus from the moment the photosphere/panorama is selected, and the images come out looking like they were taking with a 320x240 camera blurred to smooth out the artifacts, when viewed at full resolution. Example attached.
It appears to be a focus issue because when I move the camera to a new capture-dot, it immediately captures a new image rather than how it was on the Nexus 5, which focused first, and then took the picture. In any case, it looks "ok" as a thumbnail sized image, but at anywhere close to full resolution, it's unusable.
This has been this way since I bought the phone, and normally I'd think it was a defect. But looking online at samples, it seemed like this was just how the Moto X Pure "worked." Yet, coming from a Nexus 5, that actually creates full resolution photospheres/panorama that are in-focus, it's really frustrating.
Has there ever been a fix for this? Or is it that my camera really has been defective this whole time, even though it works for non-photosphere/panorama images?
I'm sorry to bump, just wondering if anyone has any response to this - I've been looking for a solution since I got this phone, so any input would be great.
Just a note, I had this same problem on an LG G2. When I was running stock (5.0) google camera worked fine, but when I switched to an AOSP/CM rom (12/12.1/13) then the stitching settings would never focus before snapping (just picked some arbitrary focal point and stuck to it, instead of refocusing for every snap).
I get this on stock 6.0, 6.0.1 and CM/AOSP roms on my XT1575 - same exact problem, and same empty searches on the internet.
Nothing useful to add, just that I'm facing the exact same problem. It does not seem like it would be too difficult to fix. I'm disappointed that no one seems to care about it.
same here, really bums me out that the focus isnt good on panorama's or photo spheres!

Can CM13 focus before taking picture?

G2 D800 running CM13 nightly
On stock, the camera app when I am taking a picture and press the shutter button, the app will focus before taking the picture. This normally takes about a second, but gives me much clearer pictures
With any other rom, Bliss, CM13, DirtyUnicorn, etc. the app takes the picture immediately after pressing the shutter button. So I must wait until the picture is fully focused before pressing the shutter button.
This also hurts me because I regularly move the phone slightly when I press the button so pictures almost always comes out blurry unless I am super careful to just barely touch the screen. This is much more difficult to get a decent picture VS the stock camera app.
I can't tell a difference between stock and CM13 camera quality as long as I hold the camera extremely still
Does anyone have any suggestions on options to have the CM13 camera app focus before taking the picture?
The guys from CyanogenMod would say (and I bet there's a disclaimer in the CM13 Nightly thread): "Deal with it. You're using a damn Nightly Build. Don't expect everthing runs properly!"
Why don't you run stable CM13 instead of the nightly version? You wrote the focus runs properly on it.
At last nightlies are naturally meant to be TEST-versions to sort out stuff like this focus problem. If you stick with nightlies just wait for the next nightly. They may fix it with the next build.

Have used cm13 nightly week ago, found no problem of such as you mentioned. If you want something to stick to, always use stable version.

Focus does not work as I would like on stable CM13
Stock = Stock from LG not CM13 stable. Focus works as I would like on stock LG firmware, yet I cannot run marshmallow and new features with it.
I have always experienced this issue with stable/snapshot/nightly CM13 camera. I do consider more of a usability tweak than an actual bug as some people may prefer to take the picture as soon as they press shutter. It would be nice to have an option to focus first then capture or capture immediately.
I have always had this issue with any snapshot/nightly I have run that is CM based. I was hoping people had possibly another camera app they liked.

I have not tried the most recent nightlies as last I looked they were having some issue with adreno blobs. I will check if they have that sorted by now. I think it is more the camera app than any issue with the OS since I have the same problem across many CM based roms. I was hoping people had possibly another camera app they liked.

The snapdragon camera that is built in cm13 is by far the best that worked for me.
But if you want, you can try xdadebb's xcam : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548974

KitKat Camera better than Lollipop?

I know this is an old topic, but i just re-flashed KitKat .ftf file today (C6903_14.6.A.0.368_TW.ftf, because i lost root along the custom ROM-flashing madness ), and i noticed that the Camera on the KitKat firmware is so much smoother and faster than on stock Lollipop, and so much much better the custom 6.0 ROMs for that matter (albeit they suffer from a known Camera problem). Now that i'm flashing back to stock 5.1.1, does anyone know how to optimize the camera app? It just seems a little unfair that the camera on 4.4.4 gives you such a better experience than the one on 5.1.1.
P.S: I have unlocked the bootloader, but the Kitkat Camera app is unaffected.
Lollipop is better
yeah, it would seem LP camera works better in lowlight. i'm trying the Camera app on Kryptonian ROM, which is ported from Xperia X, btw.
I will try to make this quick and clear: Since the battery change for my Z1 the rear glass didnt get well glued, so the flash light interfere with the camera, the pictures taken with flash were very ugly, so every picture i take, i make it without flash, and i dont know how neither why but the camera takes light from nowhere and it gives to me very clear pictures, like if you have a lightbulb in front, i have very clear pictures, i must say that i am using a custom rom (mx rom 8.5)

I had this problem too and I removed the back glass, I washed the camera and the glass and then I glued it with glass glue. Now it is perfect
Kitkat camera viewfinder is much smoother than Lollipop. I didn't notice any other difference but that was the most obvious one. Thankfully there's a nice mod here that makes the viewfinder crazy fast again in Lollipop so there. Anyway, I cleaned up my lens with a small amount of toothpaste, and everything went better, shots were more clear, no more blurs, etc.
MX ROM camera vs Snapchat camera. There are a huge difference

In my case, only when i am in a very low light condition, but when the light is good, the pictures taken are not the best but they are good

images look blurry everywhere outside of Google Photos app

Even in G Photos they don't look the clearest. Simply zooming in I can see the jagged edges, even though I know the photo's quality is good because I just opened it on a computer and could zoom in a lot more without noticeable quality loss. It's like I took a 720p screenshot of it, then zoomed in on that.
I just flashed the dotOS ROM, and all the images look so much clearer. Doesn't seem to apply to videos, but I could be wrong. Is that a bug on Motorola's end? It seems weird that such a fundamental thing hasn't been noticed yet, I just searched the forum and couldn't find anything about this.
Has anyone else noticed this on stock? How would I go about fixing this (short staying on a custom ROM).
I never had anything like that. I'm on stock and my pictures look just fine. Sounds like something in your particular setup.
