[XAP][LINK] Windows Phone 8 Preview for Developers - Windows Phone 8 Development and Hacking

Here is the official appstore link for the "Windows Phone Preview for developers" app. After installing this, and signing in on your dev-unlocked device, you will be able to download the OS changes that are GDR3. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/s...velopers/178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96
Details at the Microsoft Blog:
http://blogs.windows.com/windows_ph...spx?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
What would be interesting is if someone with a dev-unlocked device can install the xap and then upload the extracted contents here. THen we could try and figure out what it is doing when enabling the ability to download the GDR3 updates.
*EDIT*
I just installed this on my HTC 8x (Developer unlocked) it never asked me to sign in or authenticate anywhere (Screenshot in app store shows a sign-in page) ...Maybe this is because the device was already developer unlocked?

Thank s
Deploy and open Samsung Tools. After this check Remove Sideload Limit and restart your phone.
If your phone is locked - read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
By locked he means INTEROP-LOCKED. If you've got a student account you can deploy 3 apps. You already said that. But if you didn't INTEROP-UNLOCK your phone (see the thread MetusMortis posted) you won't be able to run apps which use native codes (for example registry editors, file explorers...)

[REQUEST] latest extras+info

I need for someone to possibly dump the latest version of the app from their development/pre-production edition of their Nokia Lumia. I don't think it matters if its a BUILD 920 or if its a developer 822, or whatever. I have a few ideas of some things that can be done via this app, as almost all of the dial codes on the 928 launch extras+info. One of them involves launching the service tools (including EPST) menu and stuff of that nature. I could probably just experiment with the one that launched with the 928 GDR2 rom, but its probably missing some "features" that have been worked on, but still incomplete.
Its also possible that these are baked inside the rom and completely inaccessible to the app and will only be updated when Nokia Black update releases.
ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

dumped from ROM .
but I don't know whether it is the latest one or not.
Also, I think you won't be able to deploy it to any NOKIA devices cause it requires INTEROP UNLOCK which is impossible on NOKIA now.

did you extract it from GDR2 (Amber Rom) ?
It's not the last version .
maybe we have to wait for GDR3 then we can extract last version of Extras + Info.
or maybe someone who have Samsung Ativ S can try proxy and try to download Extras + Info from market place using Sysapp Pusher (to find market link)
Then Using Full File Access to copy app files.

That's essentially why I said I needed it from a developer lumia, I don't even think it will install on ATIVs, due to OEM drivers required. Those devices have the option to have their full filesystem exposed when changed via the "Diagnostics" app that only available on developer/pre-production handsets.
Besides that what ROM did you dump this from hjc?

Is your dump from the first GDR2 that appeared on NCS for the 928 or the actual release? I have the 2nd update but not sure if extras&info updated since then??? Found this in a wim which gives me new hope that the tool is buried somewhere in this mess...

Guys a little question
Why don't we use the first lumia 920 rom ?
maybe we can find something that can help us to Interop Unlock but Microsoft and Nokia delete that in next rom releases .
Then we can Prevent Re-lock and update phone again !
I'm not sure but it seams to be some different between GDR2 rom of Nokia Lumia 920 (Apac Malaysia White is mine) and it's first Rom .
I have some problems in these days and I don't see all the differents but In first view you can find that there is no test folder in first rom but GDR2 have a folder named test and includes "QCFMFTMApp.exe"
or another thing is all of the programs are listed in :
PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\Xaps
but in GDR2 there's some xap files in this address too :
PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\OEM\Public\PreloadedApps\tier3Apps
did anyone checked the older Roms?
Thats it! I needed ver. 3.0.6.1 (because I can't deploy this to it and I'm not reflashing to just have an older version) to first see if there were any changes to Nokia.FUE.WinPRTRegistry, and possibly launch that registry script that's been embedded in it. Now all I need to do is see if there is a URI that links to the page, but I believe all bets are off. Nokia has been good about cleaning up their tracks.
THe version from the other extras was 2.6.1.18.

QCFMTMApp.exe seems to be a driver level executable that physically tunes the FM Radio in Nokia's various phones.
tier3apps, seem to be xaps that need additional permissions that essentially use provxml like in WP7 days. The NFL app that @tonbonz had done some looking into had a settings page that changes the WAP address for Verizon devices. It was interesting at the very least to see the differences between HTC and Nokia. The difference? @wap vs no @wap

This package(extra+info) contains a silent installer and it is worth doing some research around it.
I opened it using ilspy only to find it called AddPackageAsync(), which is available in Windows Runtime to deploy enterprise xap and nobody knows how it works. @GoodDayToDie @ultrashot how do you think about it? Nokia use this API to install and update xap in settings page. It seems to be a service agent, too ,which is very interesting. How did it call the API silently...when we call the API, user will notice a notification asking whether he/she wants to install the enterprise app but no matter how you call it, the deployment won't succeed

I am also wondering about details of Enterprise deployment - I haven't looked into it too much, but as i remember you have to install .cer provided by MS to device and then sign your xap with it, and such apps will get installed.
(I was wondering if such signing can "unlock" any of interesting capabilities)
Sadly, enterprise apps (CAPABILITY_CLASS_ENTERPRISE_APPLICATIONS) just uses the same capability list as CAPABILITY_CLASS_THIRD_PARTY_APPLICATIONS; nothing useful there. It's a shame.

After diving into a Lumia 521 ROM, I am not 100% sure that's the case....
I was poking around in the tier3apps directory (\PROGRAMS\CommonFiles\OEM\Public\PreloadedApps\tier3Apps\), and I noticed that some of these apps ("Nokia Accessories" and "Network Settings" apps) have interesting capabilities such as <Capability Name="ID_CAP_CELL_API_OEM_PASSTHROUGH"/>, <Capability Name="ID_CAP_INTEROPSERVICES"/>, and <Capability Name="ID_CAP_OEM_DEPLOYMENT"/>. These apps can be installed/updated via Nokia's "SilentInstaller" app. Nokia's "SilentInstaller" app just calls into AddPackageAsync(), which is available to us "normal folk" for Enterprise app deployment.
I am wondering if we could create some sort of a "shell" xap with a giant "Install button" that contains a payload such as an unaltered copy of the Samsung Diagnostics xap and appropriate license file. Clicking on the Install button would then install the signed "elevated app" onto any device. We could then launch a toast that will launch the "Registry Editor" page in the Samsung app, allowing for us to interop unlock.
The only thing that I can think of that would make this fruitless is if somehow "AddPackageAsync()" is being called "elevated" by Extras + Info (maybe it inherits whatever capabilities the parent process launched as?), and that is why Nokia can deploy things like this.
What do you guys think? This is all speculation, but I think it could be worth exploring.
**EDIT**
My phone will be back from service Wednesday, so maybe I will whip something up next weekend, if no one tries before then.

[Expired]Get WP 10 for every Windows Phone and everyone with 3 easy steps

-------------------------------------
This method doesn't work any more on the latest version of Windows Insider app, Microsoft has fixed the vulnerability.
-------------------------------------
I post this method several hours after the release of Windows 10 for phone.
It original wrote in Chinese, I decided not to post on XDA, because I'm lazy to translate, I posted it on Chinese WP forum WPXAP.com and wish someone will translate it.
Today I noticed that there only a complicated method was posted here, so finally I decided to post an English version of my method.
What you need to do is: Download a file, Set a proxy and Get update.
No PC needed, you can done it within 2 minutes.
Details step for noobs (Read notice below before you really follow the steps) :
0.Open http://upwp10.chinacloudapp.cn:7777 in IE on your phone (My server is in China, maybe slow)
1.Tap 'Open', then 'Install'
2.Open Wifi Settings
3.Tap Wifi network you connected
4.Turn on Proxy
5.Server: upwp10.chinacloudapp.cn
6.Port: 7777, and save
7.Open Windows Insider
8.Tap 'Get preview builds'
9.Two or three options will show up (1st time you use this method, you'll get only 2 options. Otherwise, you will see 'Restore' additional)
10.Long-press Back key, back to Wifi settings, turn off proxy, then back to Windows Insider
11.Tap 'Insider Fast', then tap 'Accept' (Ignore any Chinese text you see)
12.You will get update
Notice:
Use at your own risk. Strongly recommend you test it on your second phone, do not update your primary phone.
Your token information(not password) of Live ID may be sent to my server automatically by phone, if you don't trust me, don't trust this method.
You can't use my proxy server to access internet, so don't forget to turn it off.
Make Backup, you may need Rest or Reflash your phone.
Huawei and Duo-SIM phone are not supported according to Microsoft.
Your phone model infomation will be changed to Lumia 636 after using this method. If you want to revert to your phone's original model, tap the 3rd option in step 9 and apply.
Check your 'Sys free space' in 'about' in Windows Insider. You need at least 250MB to install WP 10, or you will get 0x80188308 error (Sys free space show in Bytes, you need devide 1024 twice to get MB value. e.g. 556,646,400=530.86MB).
The only way to enlarge 'Sys free space' is Reset Phone or Reflash ROM. Reset only enlarge a little space usually, so I recommend Reflash ROM using Windows Phone Recovery Tool by Microsoft.
You will need about 500-700MB Phone free space (not Sys free space) to download the update, or you'll get 8018830f error.
DO NOT reset your phone if failed to update WP10, Windows Insider will broken(crash), it's a bug of Microsoft.
If you didn't join Preview for Developers program before (Means your OS version is below 341, usually 200), you will get WP8.1/341 update first, reboot twice follow the tips of Windows Insider, finally you'll receive WP10 update.
A lot of users repotered that OS version higher than 341(like 359 on new Lumias), you'll not receive WP10 update.
Damn. I thought I needed more system space, so I did a hard reset. Damn it I'm screwed. Anyway to fix it?
Thank u work grate

If you own a Nokia pone, you can try following this tutorial and reflash with Nokia Care Suite your original, or some generic firmware, if you need help getting your product code, you can get it looking under your battery there should be an RM-XXX code followed by another code of some 17 numbers (not your IMEI) and then you put on the "Data PAckage Manager" your Product Type (RM-SOMETHING) and your Product Code that are the first 7 numbers from that long code... Hope this helps to you

Reker,
I couldn't understand this part. I need to hard reset my phone via Windows Phone Recovery Tool, but I can't do it if i fail to update my phone to WP10? And my Windows Insider app will break?
Can you please clarify that part to me and send me some screenshots of your device too?
Thanks
~imatheussm
Factory resetting your phone will break the windows insider app, as per Reker's instructions. Reflashing your ROM is the only way to increase your system space if you're below the minimum required system space. It's a pain in the ass, another step to make you think twice about it.
So, has anyone tried this on a Lumia 521?
If not I will try it.
EDIT: Not enough System free space, about 124MB.
EDIT #2: Trying a clean flash of the ROM, as suggested.

Changing back means having the registry information back as your phone originally had? the manufacturermodelname: RM-1045_1006 for eg. instead of the information this patch is applying.

Work. And you can go back with Lumia Software Recovery Tool or Nokia Care Suite.
And the Software Recovery tool back to 920 firmware not 636?
Windows Phone Recovery Tool will 100% return your phone to the correct OS
I had mine set to the L635, used the Windows Phone Recovery Tool and it recovered my phone back to the L625 100% working as it should
Some information is incorrect in the OP of this thread. You don't need at least 700 Mb, you only need at least 510-520mb for the wp10 update to install.
Also, as a reminder to users. When you set a phonemanufacturername, the mobile operator that the phone model appears on MUST ALSO match for you to receive the updates
Thanks loads. This worked perfectly on my Lumia 1320. Far simpler than that other method posted. This is in desperate need of a sticky.
I have followed the steps to the dot.. but my 930 keeps rebooting and receiving nothing.. I turn off the proxy, tap Insider (Fast).. I get "configuring your device..." screen, ajfnajksnfk in chinese, tap accept.. your device will reboot and so far it has rebooted 5 times, but no update yet.. what am I doing wrong?

Same to me
Now lets suppose, I successfully get W10 without resetting my phone. Will my 920 be known as 635 forever or will it get the right 920 software once W10 preview will be available for every phone??
Will I be forced to do the rollback to WP8.1???
Thanks!

Your tutorial worked for my Lumia 520 (I seem to be the only person reporting on Lumia 520 and Windows Phone 10 and whether it works or not).
My problem though is that my sys free space is always around 160 mb even though I've reset my phone from settings.
How do I really reset it so I would have 300 mb free?
Am I supposed to not tick automatically update apps after I reset the phone and set it up again?
I was running the very latest windows phone 8.1 through the insider preview app.
Is it possible that that very latest version (whatever it was) takes up that much space of the os partition?
I'm currently trying to install WP10 with 160 mb free and will report back if it works.
I also forgot to put the phone in airplane mode during the tutorial, but it still worked, I was still able to put myself on the fast track to updates.
Now the only question is if it will actually work.
At the moment it found some update and it is downloading it, but I don't know what update os version it is, I will report.
Thanks for this nice tutorial, it would be more helpful though if it would be better worded, more complete and better formatted.
Thanks.
thank you so much bro
i didnt get that update completely an error occured while downloading something like 8xxxxxx so now i am starting those steps from the begining untill get w10...... i dont think even lumia 520 get w10 now this is possible by you thank you thank you so much bro.........................................
Windows phone 10 on Nokia Lumia 520
So, everything went fine, windows phone 10 appeared as an update in check for updates after I put myself on the fast track for builds following your tutorial, the phone rebooted to install the update but failed, probably because my system partition only had 160 mb free, and so, I got an error number 0x80188308 saying:
Can't install update
Unfortunately, we weren't able to install the update. Wait a while, then try again. (0x80188308)
After googling the error, it is indeed because I do not have enough space to install the update.
I will try the windows phone recovery tool to free up more space.

Unfortunately I ended up with a bricked Lumia 520 after trying to restore my windows 8.1 preview developer 520 to stock firmware by using the Windows Phone Recovery Tool.
I didn't even get to install WP10 and it got bricked.
Here is a thread describing the exact problem: http://forum.xda-developers.com/windows-phone-8/help/help-bricked-lumia-520-t3033867
I haven't found a solution yet.
It's the dreaded QHUSB_DLOAD problem.
My phone is now bricked!
Beware!!!
Just as an added FYI, a Windows 8 PC isn't necessary to do this. I did it from an old lappy running Windows 7.
Had a few complications after the update.
Lock screen wouldn't let me punch in the pin at times.
Couldn't create or alter folders.
Camera wouldn't start at times.
Some others I forgot to mention. A factory reset after the update fixed the folders and camera and the lock screen doesn't lock up as much. Also, under extras+info, the banner for Lumia Denim is gone. Overall, I'm happy with Windows 10. Seems stable enough to use as a daily driver, at least in my eyes. Wish I could thank ya again because your guide also showed me how to get xaps on my phone which I never cared to even try, before lol.

windows 7 is enough for this tutorial ,but sdk lite tool need .net 4.5.1 ,which comes with windows 8,
i preparing updatying tutorial to vanish all errors and some information on wp 10 preview features, stay tuned, you get t denim back if you rename rm-xxx but it stop insider for further updates
Microsoft recovery tool will replace already installed ROM, and work for onetime refurbish
using Nokia Care Suite and your downloaded ROM ,you can flash number of times if something went wrong.
Don't Restore Backup while you first installed wp 10 update and at the first time login ,it asked for restore ,skip that step
some users bricked at this stage, after complete installation you can try reset and second time you can restore

Try deploying this

If you are unable to deploy MixRadio or flash other country variant then
try
Flash your device using Windows device recovery tool.
Then see if you are still having the same problem.
Using Windows device recovery tool is very easy and 100% risk free.
