Has anybody found an easy way to disable over the air updates for the Verizon LG G2? I believe I remember from a previous phone there was an application we could freeze to prevent updates so it wouldn't break root. Does anyone know how to do that on this phone?

you can disable "softwware update" using titanium backup or other apps with root access, I use root uninstall
Ok. That's easy enough. I didn't realize OTA was called that. With the motto x it was some obscure name. Thank you.

Started a thread on Apps safe to freeze/remove for Verizon, hope someone make a list soon. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2444882
Yeah that would be nice. Would they be the same for att and Verizon?

Pretty much anything that says Verizon or AT&T on it can be frozen. NFC if you dont use it, blue tooth if you don't use it, as long as its not system related you should be good to go. Remember back up first what you freeze
I just got an invite to try Aviate, but apparently it's incompatible with my G2. I do have a custom DPI set, so I wonder if that is the problem. Is anyone able to install it on a G2 with stock DPI? Or at all?
Edit: Okay, I tried going back to stock DPI, but the Play Store still says it's incompatible with my device. Don't know why Aviate won't install. I'm running CleanROM on an AT&T G2.
I am able to install it but obviously can't run it because it's invite. Also it lit up my malware checker. Tapjoy banner ads and another in App ad pusher

If you could find the apk you might be able to push it with root explorer. I have seen issues like this in the past with Roms. You could also try going to the play store on your on and send it to the phone. If your phone is reporting the version incorrectly than that won't work either

I did try sending it from the play store on my pc, but it is listed as incompatible on the Web play store too.

I running it on my stock rooted vzw. Only issue I see so far is the battery drains a little faster but not bad. Takes a bit too get used to.

It's working fine on mine. No issues whatsoever so far as I can tell.

I have used it for couple of days. Today I installed a new ROM and restored it with GO Backup. As soon as I install an app from the Play Store I loose my settings in Aviate and cannot make a fresh install because of lack of compatibility. Before the last update It was definitely compatible with my G2. Strange. Anyone has a solution? I like it very much.
I tried Aviate & no problem at all. Using stock 4.4.2 rom.

Here everything fine again. I received first class support form the Aviate team. Had to remove the app, and after reboot I could install it again from the Store. However, I needed a new code that arrived within 5 minutes.
I learnt that we cannot restore Aviate by a backup app: at the moment you open the Play Store it looses the settings. Maybe the incompatibility issue was caused by restoring through GO Backup as well.
Running stock KK and Aviate. No issues, but you lose the ability to use Knock, Knock, (Knock, Penny) to turn off the phone. Also, not all widgets work with Aviate. I personally like the Aviate launcher. The developers are very responsive and they publish updates regularly. The most recent added notification count badges to certain app icons.

Freeze it and find out what happens...
(I believe it controls the dialer codes So if you disable it, you won't be able to do any of the # codes from your phone dialer.

Can't I soft brick my phone if I disable something big? How would I go about reverting back.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Create a nandroid backup first. If it was something big, you would still be able to get into recovery and restore your backup.
You should ALWAYS do that before freezing anything, just in case. I've seen apps do things you wouldn't expect.
That said, I don't think it will soft brick you phone, but I don't use Verizon, so don't know exactly what any of their files are.

Use titanium backup for user apps just copy your tb folder to pc or any removable storage so you can later just copy to your lg i do this with pics and stuff also
Go into settings, accounts and sync, Google and make sure it is set to sync contacts and pics. For sms use an app like go sms pro. Back up the sms and copy the files to your computer until your new phone arrives.

What version of android is on your s4? You might want to be careful when restoring app data across different platforms.

Should be ok then. Just be careful with any system app data. Never a good idea to restore that across devices.

One more question.
I've rooted and disabled know, but I keep getting this message. What's this about?
Also, I get FCs on a lot of apps either after backing out, or after using them a while. I'm completely stock aside from root and adaway

In Titanium Backup look for something that says Verizon and shows that Shield. Select and uninstall. Believe mine was called that, but I don't know why yours wouldn't be the same. You can also in the interim go into your apps on your phone and find that Icon and long hold, App Info, and Turn Off until you find the App to force Uninstall on TiBu
