Browser HELP - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm missing my quick controls from my note 2like crazy!!!! Anyone have luck with an app for them. Just noticed in the browser there isn't an option like with the note 2 to clear cookies and cache, unless I'm just missing it. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Use android browser by digital cookies in play store. It has full screen, quick controls and supports flash. The stock browser blows!

There's also this aosp installer (if you have root). This has an option to also install chromesync to sync your bookmarks to the aosp browser
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.aospinstaller
I haven't tried it yet, I'll update when I root. I'm going to try installing cyanogen's modded aosp browser and chromebookmarkssyncadapter to see if they work

AOSP Browser Working
I hope this helps, I have the aosp browser installed working flawlessly on my gn3. All of my google bookmarks sync (go to settings->google account-> sync bookmarks), the bookmarks widget works, the quick controls work, even the stylus works in it. This is just like having my galaxy nexus except faster and smoother. Not sure if you have to freeze or uninstall the stock samsung browser first, but I went into the system apps and renamed sbrowser.apk and odex to .bak files to disable them before using this app from the playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mkrtchyan.aospinstaller
You do need root access for this, otherwise you can install the app from digitalcookies in the app store, but you won't get bookmarks to sync with that one

Without high jacking the thread, how can I get the desktop flag to be fixed in the stock browser?

[Q] Google Search Reintegration idea...

Hopefully a dev out there will read this and know what could and couldn't be done when it comes to this (i have some basic knowledge on some android programming but when i say basic, i mean basic...) but as most of you know the google search widget is back on the fascinate and works correctly if you have an ALTERNATE homescreen and you must use that homescreen (no more touch wiz). Now I personally prefer the touchwiz launcher over all the rest (i had a droid 1, then got a 2 and returned it for the fascinate best thing ive ever done imho) and im sure that there are some other people out there that feel the same way but HATE bing with a passion, such as myself. Now, more to the point, my idea is to take the touchwiz launcher from another galaxy S device (or the one that everyone has been able to use for non-rooted non-galaxy s devices for a while now) and simply make it compatable with the fascinate (I tried installing it myself and it failed) im guessing it failed for some version number reason or something of the sort (maybe all itd take is renaming the processes? idk) OR perhaps just go straight to the problem and someone dig into the TWlauncher on our fascinates and find where verizon has made them block all google related search widgets/icons (I cant even put the google voice search icon on my launcher ) Any and all input is both welcomed and thanked
bump with this as well
why?
Once rooted, you can fix the soft (short and long press) search button, which pretty much acts in the same fashion as that widget. I understand the frustration of not being able to install any widget once rooted, but that's a good enough solution. I prefer the TW launcher too.
I would wonder where the system defaults to Bing from. Even running a custom launcher, and using the google widget, the search button on the phone triggers a bing search. Would this be integrated in the TouchWiz launcher, or in the browser the phone ships with?

You have to install the EnhancedGoogleSearchProvider.apk from the "Bing removed! Google is BACK!" thread to fix the hardware search button. The browser is also hooked to Bing, so the fix for the browser search is to use a different browser for now.

So it's both then. Done, and done. Replaced the stock launcher in system/app with ADW, installed the search provider apk, and am running skyfire as default. This. Thing. Blazes.

[Q] Flash 10.1 not working on Fascinate DL30 leak

So far DL30 is working without any real issues. The only weird thing that I noticed is that Adobe Flash 10.1 stopped working. It worked when I tested it, but now the same site isn't working.
I tried...
Updating to the latest Flash via market place... no luck.
Renaming the install_flash_player.apk and installing from the market place... no luck
Most sites have a warning that flash is not installed. This is using the android browser.
If anyone has any suggestions it would be much appreciated.
EDIT: I should have stated that I wiped the data and cache. I also went from a stock DL09 rooted phone to the DL30 leak.
I just used Dophin HD to go to CNN and MSNBC, I was able to view the videos there with no problems. I remember I couldn't do that on 2.1.
All I did was to install Flash 10.1 from Market...
OK.... Newb status confirmed....
The flash player worked and then stopped. Some how the enable addons setting on the browser was turned to off. I enabled all. Sorry for the ridiculous question!
Tanks for the post...I had that same plugin thing disabled as well until I saw this thread. Now flash is up and running. Anyone know how to choose the resolution settings in youtube? (ex. 360p,720p,1080p)
It helped me to install from the marketplace. Seems to work great even with flash games on this 2.2 build.
Sorry, slightly off topic, but browser related. Anyone actually get the default search engine selection to work correctly? Neither of the two other choices - Google or Yahoo works.
Typing anything into the top URL / Search bar and then pressing the right arrow button to initiate the search always yields bing search results. Maybe I am missing the real function of the default search selection, but one would figure that's what that setting was for.
Everything else in DL30 has seemed to function perfectly.
Enable Plugins from the browser menu. You can set it to manual too so you don't have too much lag from videos starting.
Its working ... Enable plugins in your browser...
Flash Works
Yeah flash works perfectly. If i go to ESPN i can watch the videos on there perfectly and just click the fullscreen to see it good on my phone.

Stock Browser

I don't like the Chrome browser that has become "stock" over the stock browser on the N7 because:
Chrome is connected to my Office's Chrome browser so private things i browse on my tablet show up in my search history at work. Plus I want N7 bookmarks to be different than my office bookmarks
The bookmark widgets are horrible on Chrome and much better on stock Android.
Because of this, I ended up rooting and flashing CM10's M1 build, which is somewhat stable...and I love the stock browser's simplicity and love the widget pack that's there by default.
I would like to go back to a stock ROM ....4.2 but want to get rid of Chrome and somehow load the stock browser. Is there a way to ditch Chrome and sideload stock? Need some help/direction.
Thank you!
Why not create another Gmail account just for logging into Chrome at work?
i have the stock android browser on stock 4.2.1. can't remember where i got it, might have been from another site, but i put it in /system/app, set permissions and rebooted, and it works. (requires root)
i agree about the bookmarks. i like how the stock browser works with my Android Pro Widgets bookmark widget.

Thanks for the link and instructions. Do i need to figure out a way to uninstall Chrome or can stock and Chrome work side by side. Would prefer to ditch Chrome all together....
If you can't ditch Chrome (easily) what would happen with the bookmarks widget...would it connect to Chrome or Stock?...
Thanks again!

i uninstalled Chrome using Titanium Backup. the bookmark widget you are talking about i believe comes with Chrome so will disappear with Chrome. i haven't tried to connect that widget to the stock browser, so i don't know if it would work. i have used the APW bookmark widget from the market for a long time, and it works great with the stock browser.
Edit: the APW widget also works with Chrome but doesn't seem to fetch thumbnails as well as with the stock browser. If you switch to stock you might have to re-bookmark your sites, unless some are backed up on the Google servers from before!

[Q] Change default browser for Google search widget results

On my Nexus 7, Dolphin is my default browser. However, when using the Google search widget, results are displayed in Chrome, and not Dolphin. After the list of results is displayed, then the link opens properly in Dolphin.
This issue would not be so irritating if I could long-press on links in the initial page of results and choose to open the link in a new tab. However, that option is not available, for some reason, so if I want to view several links, I have to keep going back and forth from the initial results page. This is very irritating.
So, simple question: how can I get the Google search widget to open the initial results page in my default Dolphin browser? If this is not possible, then how can I get the links in the search results to open in a new tab?
Thanks for your help.
Still hoping to make this work
I'm still hoping someone can help me figure out how to ensure that search results using the handy Google search widget open in Dolphin browser, which I find to be far better than the stock browser. As I mentioned earlier, once I choose a link, that link opens in Dolphin. However, the search results page does NOT open in Dolphin, and I am unable open a search result in a new tab from the stock browser, which is irritating.
Any ideas?
Can you clear the defaults on either the search widget or the browser and reset them? Maybe that will get them to switch.

Thanks for your quick reply. Yes, I did clear the defaults, which I believe is why the search links open in Dolphin. However, the original search page stubbornly sticks with the inferior stock browser.
This is not a problem with the phone running ICS...just my Nexus 7.
Stock rom, rooted, 4.2.1. If you are rooted there is a way to remove Chrome as the default browser and place the default nexus browser (not chrome) from the nexus phone rom as default. I did this and Voice Search & Google Now open web searches in it. I side-loaded Flash and it works great with that browser. If you want to make Dolphin the default, I don't know about that.
If OP has rooted, stock Rom or otherwise and still has Chrome Browser - go to Store/Play to download free app called "AntTeh App Manager" and use it to freeze Chrome (thus, disabled it) That should allow Dolphin Browser to be the only one - boot into Custom Recovery & wipe dalvik cache to be sure, restart - and all searches should be going to the Dolphin.
I am using Boat Browser & Google Search and/or Voice Search, etc. will launch & show results in it. (rooted Stock 4.1.2 - franco kernel)
You can unfreeze Chrome & go back to it anytime as you wish as it's not deleted, just hidden & will no longer shown on the Apps list, unless re-enabled.

Is there a way to get stock browser on vzw G2?

Chrome annoys me especially on xda...the reloads, blinking, etc.

If you go into the G2 development forum, there is a link to the Stock Browser and just flash it in recovery.

AOSP Browser Installer in the Play Store. Worked fine on my VZW G2
(I think the one linked in the development forum is the stock *LG* browser, you might try that but personally I like AOSP browser better)
There is another "AOSP" Browser in the PlayStore if you can't get the AOSP one running (don't know if that one requires root or not, it days it does but..). It's called Android Browser and is basically the AOSP Browser and works fine. I've read that some couldn't get the AOSP Browser to work, so thought I'd throw this out there.
Do they all play flash?
Do either of them sync with google bookmarks?
